~Chapter 9~

(Y/n) couldn't sleep. It probably was the nostalgia but something in her head pounded. She sat up and rubbed her eyes before looking around the room. It was way too dark and the only thing illuminating the room was Hiro's digital alarm clock. 6:30 it read.

The girl sighed and looked around the room, the room divider had been pulled back and left a dusty trail on the floor. Now that (Y/n) thought of it, she could feel the dusty bookshelves and items as she felt her way to Hiro's bed. Why there was so much dust? (Y/n) didn't know nor cared. Slowly, she tiptoed past her sleeping friend and made her way to the staircase, sitting on the first step. It was slightly cold and nothing but Hiro's soft breathing could be heard.

She smiled. She did it, she made it all the way to San Fransokyo without the help of her parents. She raised all the money by herself and managed to see her childhood best friend. She didn't know what she felt, pride? Happiness? Self-accomplishment? Something in her brain was telling her it was so but the feeling seemed completely off, like it wasn't related to her sense of honour. It was as if she were waking up and had an unclear train of thought.

A warm hand was placed on her shoulder, causing her to jump and forget the feeling she had experienced. "Couldn't sleep?" The familiar voice called. (Y/n) shrugged.

"I guess...there is this pounding in my head that I'm not quite sure if it's nostalgia or a headache." She replied lightly. The person no doubtingly Hiro, sat beside her.

"Would it be weird if I say that I'm experiencing that pounding feeling to?" He asked (Y/n) laughed.

"Maybe it's just because we are in summer pyjamas in a winter cold room." She suggested, "But in all seriousness, I was having some weird subconscious thought that you were starting to wake... weird but true." Her words caught herself and her friend off guard. Was that the sleepy like feeling she had? Did she really just imagine herself in Hiro's perspective of emotions? Not even science could explain that, perhaps it was just a friend thing.

"Really? Must be the best friend magic we have then." Hiro said, reassuring her "friend thing" theory. They both went silent after that, listening to the sound of absolute peacefulness. Finally, (Y/n) spoke up.

"Remember when we would wake up at this time when we were kids?" Her voice was soft and gentle, almost as if she were back in the memory she were explaining. "It would be very early and we would be all hushed like this," She indicated by speaking even softer, "We'd sneak to the kitchen and steal candy. You always got the gummy bears and I always got the cotton candy- even though Aunt Cass specifically told us not to." (Y/n) laughed, not noticing the small frown Hiro displayed. "Then we would eat the sugar and go all crazy, always waking Tadashi up from his sleep so he would chase us around the house-"

"Yeah that was fun." Hiro cut her off abruptly. (Y/n) turned to look at Hiro before returning her gaze to the floor.

"Mhmm, it was."

Hiro sighed and stood up, opening the blinds in his room. Sunlight poured in from where ever it could and filled the entire room. "Come on (N/n)." Hiro beckoned, "We have to get ready or we won't make it in time to Fred's place." (Y/n) smiled and nodded before hurrying to her suitcase.

"Where does Fred live anyway?" She asked.

"Oh," Hiro exclaimed, "Do you remember that one time Aunt Cass and I went to my school and left you with Tadashi?" He asked, digging through a draw filled with socks and underwear.

"Yeah? Of course I do, it was the first and last time Tadashi spent time with me alone...he showed me a magic trick I think then you and Aunt Cass came back." (Y/n) recounted.

"Well Fred lives two neighbourhoods in between the café and school." Hiro said, pulling out a pair of rolled up socks.

"You could have just said two neighbourhoods in between the café and school, I'd know what you mean."(Y/n) said, picking out some clothed for the day. She turned around to head to the bathroom as she noticed the pairs of socks and underwear all over the floor.

"I know but just in case you forgot the school." Hiro said, pulling his hoodie from under his bed.

"Did you seriously just bomb your clothes draw?" (Y/n) stifled a laugh, kicking a pair of underwear away from her. Hiro crawled from under the bed and snatched it up.

"Yes, yes I did and please refrain from kicking them, I may be able to still wear them so I don't need dirt off the floor on them." Hiro said in a sassy manner.

"Well don't throw em around the room." She laughed, nudging Hiro as she made her way to the bathroom. "Ah Hiro, you never changed."

Hiro looked back at her as she disappeared to the bathroom, how was it that she sensed him wake up? Of course it could have been a friend thing but now that he thought about it, it seemed to suspicious to be so, after all, they had been doing things simultaneously ever since she arrived.

The idea left his head much like most of his feelings for the girl had before as soon he spotted her all dressed and ready. He placed his hands on his hips and smirked. "That has to be a new record or something." He exclaimed. (Y/n) rolled her eyes.

"Not all girls take five years to get ready- trust me though, I know what you mean." She grinned. Hiro shrugged and went into the bathroom, leaving (Y/n) to wander about the room. Something seemed off, or depressing like and she had no idea why. It was then that she found herself sitting on Hiro's desk, looking through his draws.

She somehow knew where to find what she was looking for. And to her surprise, she found it, a blue hard cover journal. She frowned in confusion, the book was fairly recent as by the appearance so how did she know that existed?

Well obviously he had to write feelings and stuff down somewhere...

The sound of the bathroom door opening and footsteps nearing caused her to jump and leave everything as they were. The journal was forgotten the instant she saw her friend. "Ready? Come on! I can't wait to see your friends again!" She cheered. Hiro smiled like crazy as he led her down the stairs, pushing her into the kitchen.

"Sure, sure. We will go but first we must have breakfast!" He declared, pulling gout a box of cereal.

"I thought you would have grown up enough to stop eating that sugar filled stuff." (Y/n) laughed.

"Nah, do you have them where you live?" Hiro asked, passing her the box.

"Yeah...but I tend not to eat it." She replied truthfully. Hiro frowned.

"How can you NOT eat it?!" He said, eating a spoonful. "What do you eat instead?! Don't say vegetables cause then I know an alien took over your brain." she laughed at his comment before shaking her head.

"No! Well, not for breakfast, my diet has been moved strictly to only fruit and vegetables, and the occasional vitamin supplements if we can get them." (Y/n) explained. Hiro paused and shifted backwards a bit, taking a full look at his friend who stared at him in confusion from her spot on the kitchen seat.

"Now that I look at you..." Hiro said, "You look underweight." (Y/n)'s eyes dilated as Hiro continued. "Do you eat properly?" He asked.

"Of-of course I do!" (Y/n) stammered slightly. Hiro didn't notice the break in her voice. (Y/n) tried to think of a way to change the conversation from her weight, feeling self-conscious he'd find out about her current life and money issues, he shouldn't know, if he did, he would worry. She decided to fight back with the same excuse. "Says you!" She called, "You're as skinny as a stick!" Hiro rolled his eyes.

"Don't ask me, it's just how my body is." He replied. 'And a damn good looking one it is to!' (Y/n) thought, blushing red at the immediate foreign sentence her mind had strewn together. Hiro was to busy eating his cereal to notice, luckily for (Y/n) who tried every possible way to stop the heat from rising.

They managed to finish eating their sugary cereal before Hiro noted the time. "Shoot! We need to get going, it's almost time to meet up!" He did a double take at the amount of cereal left in the box.

"What?" (Y/n) asked as he smirked at her. He lifted the box up and shook it up and down.

"See? This cereal is hard to resist!" He laughed as (Y/n) finished her 7th bowl.

"Shut up and let's get going." She called. Hiro called out to Aunt Cass and explained they were going out before grabbing her hand. She watched as Hiro uneasily walked towards the door.

"let's go!" He said, quickly changing his mood faster than any girl (Y/n) had ever seen, laughing as he dragged her outside the café.

The two followed Hiro's directions he had given before, running the two streets in between the café and school. (Y/n) wondered how Hiro could run so fast, let alone seem fit enough to not break into a sweaty waterfall. 'Had he been working out?' She thought, blushing.

The gang came into view as Hiro pulled his friend into a street lined with mansions. The girl's eyes widened at the sight, her eyes washing over what was supposed to be Fred's house. "We didn't believe it either." Gogo piped up, smirking at the girl's expression. The gang had gathered around the front door steps as Fred emerged from inside, fist bumping his "butler" known as Heathcliff.

"Okay! Are we ready for an action packed day?!" Every word he exclaimed was given twice the amount of energy (Y/n) could ever give. 'How is he so happy and hyper?' she thought, shrugging.

"Of course! Especially since we have a new member in the team!" Honey Lemon exclaimed.

"Team? Don't you mean gang?" (Y/n) asked puzzled. Honey Lemon giggled.

"Tomato tomato!" She cheered, pronouncing the word in various ways. Gogo popped another bubble from her strawberry gum, the smell wafting through the air.

"So, Wasabi, being the OCD guy he is, created a list of agenda." Gogo said, rolling her eye.

"That sounds great!" (Y/n) cheered, watching as Wasabi pulled out his phone and bring up an app with a list of things to do.

"So from now up until 12 we go to the mall, that gives us enough time to look around, an hour for guy stuff and an hour for girl stuff or 40 minutes each person, then, since it would be 12, we can have an early lunch and make our way to the amusement park which hopefully, by then, our lunch would have been properly digested." Wasabi took a breath, "Then we can finally go and enjoy the rides up until closing time at 6 and walk home."

(Y/n) and Hiro jumped up and down "Yeah!" They cheered. Honey Lemon squealed at the synch movements.

"We really gotta stop doing this." Hiro grinned.

"You took the words right outta my mouth." (Y/n) said, laughing.

"So, shall we get going then?" Fred asked, grasping a hold of Wasabi's wrist and dragging him down the street. (Y/n) watched as Gogo rolled her eyes and raced in front of Fred, grabbing him by the hem of his shirt and dragging him to. Honey Lemon clapped her hands and grabbed both Hiro and (Y/n)'s hands, racing after the others.

"Honey!" The two exclaimed, (Y/n) panting and out of breath.

"Come on! Keep up!" She grinned, her heels clicking against the pavement, it was a miracle she could run in pumps that big. The group of six slowed to a halt at the end of a street, watching as a limo pulled up.

"Sweet ride." Gogo complimented.

"Why thank you! Its name is Betty." Fred opened the door and allowed them inside. (Y/n) looked around her.

Smiling faces where ever she looked, and everyone was different. No person was alike in this group, it was diverse. She sighed contently and slumped into her seat, leaning her head against Hiro's shoulders, ignoring Honey's squeals and camera shutter.

For years she had lived alone, with no friends until Maddy. She was the one who helped raise money with her and helped her find these people.

This, this is was she had been missing for 9 years and as the limousine pulled out of the parking gear, (Y/n) didn't give her struggles in the past one thought.
