~Chapter 8~
(Y/n) couldn't help but feel nervous. She was finally here on the plane. It had been 9 years since she last saw her friend and it was very overwhelming. A flight attendant passed her seat and smiled lightly.
"Is there anything you need miss?" She asked. "The plane will be landing in thirty or so minutes." (Y/n) shook her head and watched as the lady walked over to the next seat. Looking out the window, (Y/n) could see the white clouds as the plane flew over the city. They flew over the San Fransokyo Bridge when (Y/n) gasped at the sight.
It had been far too long since she last was here. She almost forgot how pretty the city looked during the daylight as well as the night.
"Hello this is your Captain speaking, we are just about cleared for landing at the San Fransokyo Airport so I'd like to ask you all too please fasten your seat belts, open all window shutters , close your food trays and set your seat upright. The weather is currently warm and the time is now 2:30 pm. Thank you for flying with Jetstar and I hope you enjoyed your flight."
(Y/n) followed the seat belt sign that suddenly flashed on, clipping the buckle as she felt the nose of the plane bend forward. The high speed of the plane pressed her back into her seat as the plane gave a sudden jolt when the wheels hit the ground.
The plane flew around the run way as (Y/n) picked her bag up from under the seat in front of her. A small ding was heard, indicating that seat belts could be removed and instantly everyone got up in a hustle to get off.
Seeing as she was 13, (Y/n) was classified an unaccompanied minor. This made a flight attendee rush up to her and helped her exit the plane. As soon as the lady helped her collect her baggage and point out the waiting and collecting area, (Y/n) thanked her and exited the building.
Everything was just how she remembered it. The sky was a light blue and the cars were quite loud. She smiled to herself as she walked down the road. She pulled out her phone and turned it on, seeing as she had turned it off when boarding the plane.
The screen displayed a message from Maddy. "Are you in San Fransokyo yet? Txt me when u r!" (Y/n) Smiled and quickly replied before pocketing her phone once more. She looked around and smiled at the familiar buildings. She knew where she was somehow which was great but strange as she hadn't been in the country for 9 years.
She could see the bridge that she and Hiro had ran along once while Tadashi was tying his shoe, it was a funny memory since Tadashi looked like a flying duck while running after them. (Y/n) breathed in the city air and exhaled deeply. It was too good to be true, if she all of a sudden woke up to find it was a dream, shed fling herself off a cliff.
She slowly pulled her suitcase along the side footpath as she gripped her backpack strap tightly. The bridge was a lot bigger than she had remembered, she almost couldn't see the end. Eventually she made it and turned around the corner.
A giant park was laid out before her, the very park their secret spot was in. Curios, she took a detour and walked through the bushes, dragging her suitcase through the leaves and dirt. She came upon the land marked tree and continued forward until she saw the small stone hut.
Her eyes widened as she let go of the suitcase handlebar. She got down on all fours and crawled inside. The old lamp was still there along with a bunch of items that had been long forgotten. (Y/n) smiled to herself. It was a tight fit but she managed to crawl out, how Tadashi managed must have been hard.
She touched the bumpy rock walls before picking up her suitcase and walking out of the bushes, crossing the park and walking down the street. At the end of the street, she was met at an intersection, she turned left, passing the police station and began to walk down a steep hill. And there at the bottom of the hill was the Lucky Cat Café.
(Y/n) ran across the street and flung the glass door open. It was pretty empty except for a small group in the corner near a circular window. (Y/n) walked towards the cashier with her suitcase wheeling behind her.
She waited patiently until the all too familiar brunette lady appeared from the kitchen. "Hello and welcome to-"She paused and took note of the suitcase. (Y/n) waved quickly and smiled as Aunt Cass gasped. "(y/n)?!" She exclaimed. She nodded her head as Aunt Cass walked around the cashier and hugged her.
"Hey Aunt Cass." (Y/n) muttered, hugging her back. She separated the hug as tears of happiness formed in her eyes. "Been so long huh?" She said.
"It has! I can't believe it is you! Oh my god!" She smiled as she handed the girl a tissue.
"Heh, t-thanks... is H-hhiro here?" She stuttered as more tears fell. She was so overwhelmed with happiness that she found herself using another tissue. Aunt Cass pointed to the small group she had passed on the way in.
That's when her eyes fell upon the smallest of the group. Her eyes widened and her mouth curved into a smile as she let her suitcase and backpack drop to the floor. More tears slowly fell as the small gang went silent and turned their heads towards her.
Their eyes met for the briefest second. It was him. Hiro Hamada in the flesh. Her childhood best friend was right there. He slowly stood up as she walked to him, covering her mouth in astonishment and occasionally wiping away the tears.
No one spoke as she suddenly jumped on him and crushed him with a hug. He hugged her back and for a second, (Y/n) didn't want to let go. "Hiro!" (Y/n) mumbled. "I missed you so much!" The hug was separated as Hiro laughed lightly.
"It's been...way, way too long." He breathed.
"I can't believe it!" (Y/n) screamed, hugging her best friend once more. He returned the hug again as she squeezed her eyes closed. Hiro brought a chair over and invited her to sit as Aunt Cass picked up her belongings.
"I'll place this in Hiro's room." She called.
"Thanks Aunt Cass." (Y/n) called. She turned her attention to the group of friends in front of her. A girl with honey blonde hair and pink glasses began to squeal.
"That was the cutest thing ever! It was like it was straight out of a movie!" She exclaimed as the boy next to her nodded in agreement. He had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes, a beanie on top of his head.
"You guys must have been away from each other for a long time." He said.
"Yeah, we have." (Y/n) and Hiro said simultaneously, causing the girl before to squeal.
"You guys are made for each other! It's so cute when you do stuff at the same time, do it again!" She pleaded. (Y/n) found herself rubbing her neck and grinning sheepishly with Hiro beside her. The simultaneous actions made the girl squeal more
"We have heard so much about you (Y/n), it's nice to finally meet you." A dark toned boy said, he wore a green sweater and he had brown dreadlocks. (Y/n) nodded at the group and smiled shyly.
"Well (Y/n), this is the gang, that's Fred," The boy with the dirty blonde hair smiled.
"Just so you know, I am the one who gives the nicknames." He said. (Y/n) nodded her head.
"That's um, cool, nice to meet you Fred." (Y/n) replied. Hiro then pointed to the other boy.
"That's Wasabi." (Y/n) smiled and waved.
"I'm sorry if I come off rude but...why is your name Wasabi?" (Y/n) asked. Fred raised a hand.
"One of my genius nicknames." He called.
"Only because he spilt wasabi on his shirt once." The pink glasses girl interrupted.
"Yeah but Wasabi is a neat-nick and is OCD about tidiness, a person like that doesn't usually spill stuff on them." Replied another girl, she had short black hair with purple streaks and wore a black mid cropped leather jacket.
"Shall I continue?" Hiro cut in.
"Please do." (Y/n) smiled. Hiro pointed out the girl with the blonde hair and pink glasses.
"That is Honey Lemon." Hiro said as Honey Lemon waved.
"You are absolutely adorable! I mean, when Hiro said you were cute I didn't think he really meant it cause he has a bad taste in everything but now that I see you, he was right!" Honey Lemon giggled. Her comment caused both (Y/n) and Hiro to blush, "Awe! You both blush at the same time! You guys keep doing stuff simultaneously! It is adorable! It is cute! Oh my gosh it is a sign!" (Y/n) looked down at her lap as Honey Lemon went on.
"That's enough thanks." Wasabi said, covering his friend's mouth with his hand.
"But may mare mo mute!" She mumbled. Wasabi removed his hand.
"What?" Fred asked.
"But they are so cute!" Honey Lemon insisted. The other girl next to her gripped her shoulder. "Okay I'll stop." Her shoulders slumped as Hiro shook his head while smiling.
"Wait a second," (Y/n) said, "You called me cute?" Hiro went red before glaring at Honey Lemon who made a heart out of her hands.
"Yeah, um anyways." Hiro pointed to his friend as (Y/n)'s heart began to race, he called her cute. That had to mean SOMETHING to him. She smiled as she shook the thought out of her head. They were friends, they shouldn't rush things like that, heck! They shouldn't even be worrying about stuff like that! They were way too young.
Hiro pressed on as (Y/n) looked at the final girl to be introduced. Something about her made her very familiar. "And-" Hiro was cut off.
"You look familiar..." (Y/n) exclaimed, eyeing the tomboy girl.
"That's Gogo... I didn't think you would recognize her." Hiro smiled "Gogo is a nickname- her real one is-"
"Ethel!" (Y/n) Exclaimed. Gogo smirked and nodded.
"So you do remember me,- surprising considering it was only for a couple of seconds, the bot fight was something huh?" She nodded.
"You guys went bot fighting?" Honey Lemon exclaimed.
"No, it was 9 years ago at the robotics convention- we were watching the final bot fight and Gogo was explaining what was going on." Hiro explained.
"Oh! The robotics convention- do they still do them?" (Y/n) asked.
"No... they stopped after the last one we went to- the traffic was too busy since the road was closed." Hiro sighed. (Y/n) nodded. It was a shame a piece of her childhood was gone. It was even sadder that it was the thing she and Hiro did last together. But no matter now, the past was done, she was here once more with her best friend and his friends, there could be no happier memory.
Hiro then decided to take (Y/n) upstairs, ignoring the thumbs up the gang gave him, or was it for her? They climbed another set of stairs until they were at the third floor, walking through the old door way that lead to the Hamada hang out.
The room didn't look a day older than when she was there last, the only difference was a red suitcase that sat in the middle of a wall. A cat bed sat beside it, assumingly belonging to Mochi. "I see Mochi's bed spot has been taken over." (Y/n) smiled. Hiro grinned at the cat bed.
"Well I needed a spot for Baymax's charging pod didn't I?" Hiro smirked. "Besides, ever since I threw Mochi up the stairs-"By this point, (Y/n) began to wonder how much she really had missed since her absence. It made her wonder if things would have been, well, different. "-Baymax and Mochi have been best buds!" Hiro finished.
(Y/n) turned to look at Hiro who turned at the same time. Their eyes met and for some reason, they fell silent. It was as if a giant staring contest had taken place and (Y/n) was almost certain they were getting closer.
By now (Y/n) had indeed figured out her feelings- after 9 years of separation she had yearned to hold his hand again, this time however, in a more than friendly sort of way. Ever since day one when he first asked her to visit, those feelings were indeed jealousy and she now knew that. She liked him, the real question was did he the same?
Her thoughts were cut short when Hiro blinked and shook his head furiously. She did the same and prayed her cheeks weren't red like her friend's. "Oh man! U-um s-sorry about that." Hiro had said once he found his voice.
"N-no that's okay." (Y/n) assured him as he scratched the back of his neck. Almost instantly a few beeping sounds emitted from behind the pair. Turning around curiously, (Y/n) found the red case that was standing where Mochi's bed once was, opening to reveal a white shiny blob. Hiro walked towards the shape as it supposedly inflated, revealing to be a marshmallow sort of robot that resembled the "Stay Puft Marshmallow Man" from "Ghost Busters". The only difference was that he wasn't wearing the hat and had two round dots for eyes with a line connecting them.
"Hello! I am Baymax, Your personal healthcare companion." It exclaimed, raising a chubby finger. To this, (Y/n) was at a loss for words, why hadn't Hiro mentioned Baymax to her before!? This robot could potentially help and save lives! "I was alerted to the need for medical attention when you said "Oh Man!"... How may I be of assistance?" It tilted it's head to the side to show a sign of curiosity.
"Baymax! Oh um no that wasn't a call of distress... Oh! This is my childhood friend (Y/n)! (Y/n), this is Baymax..." Hiro introduced. (Y/n) waved shyly to the robot.
"Hey Baymax." (Y/n) said.
"Hello (Y/n), I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion." The robot replied, waving a hand.
"So you say!" (Y/n) smiled. "Did you build him?" She asked Hiro.
"Tadashi created me to help the sick and injured." Baymax cut in. (Y/n) widened her eyes.
"Oh so Tadashi did! Is he still away or something?" she asked. Hiro looked at her and frowned.
"Uh yeah he is... anyways! I am satisfied with my care." (Y/n) wanted to question Hiro's sudden attitude change but before she could, Baymax had returned to his pod and Hiro was already whisking her back down stairs.
They sat with the gang as Aunt Cass produced the giant ice cream and gummy bear cake Hiro had claimed to be making. Memories filled (Y/n)'s head as she was served a slice. Hiro and her each scooped a spoon full and shoved a piece into their mouths. Honey Lemon squealed, causing the two to look up at her. "Is...something wrong?" They said, looking at each other in surprise.
"Okay I know there is such thing as coincidences but talking at the same time AND eating cake? Now something weird is going on." GoGo folded her arms. The two shrugged.
"This is the best ice cream and gummy bear cake I have ever tasted!" (Y/n) giggled, as Aunt Cass handed the rest of the gang some.
"You know," Fred began, "We are all going to the mall tomorrow, and you two should join us!" He insisted. (Y/n) felt a pang of sorrow when she realized she had no money to buy stuff.
"That sounds like a good idea!" Hiro insisted, "After we should go to the amusement park I mentioned."
"Then it's settled!" Honey Lemon said, "We shall go shopping then go to the amusement park! Let's meet at 10 am tomorrow, sound good?" She asked.
"We meet at Fred's since he's paying." Wasabi said.
"Since when did Fred say he was paying?" GoGo asked.
"Freddy is happy to have a new friend so he pays for all!" Fred exclaimed, causing (Y/n) to frown.
"There is no need to do that!" She exclaimed, "And did you just address yourself in third person?"
"Yes he did, you get used to it though." Hiro laughed.
Fred pet (Y/n)'s head. "(Y/n), I can afford to pay for everyone so it's my treat okay?" he smiled as (Y/n) looked at him. She smiled back and nodded, jumping when Honey Lemon clapped her hands.
"We better get going then, if we are waking up early we should sleep early, I'm going home." She smiled.
"Right back at ya." GoGo said, standing up with Honey lemon. Wasabi and Fred followed in pursuit, waving good bye to (Y/n) and Hiro. The two ascended the stairs and entered Hiro's room.
"It's nice to be back." (Y/n) sighed. Hiro turned to look at her.
"Mmm, It's good to have you back." Hiro agreed. "Come on, let's get ready for bed, you can go first." He offered.
"Okay, thanks." (Y/n) grinned, collecting her change of clothes and bathroom utensils. (Y/n) sighed contently as she shut the bathroom door. It had been way to long. Finally things seemed like they were turning around. And finally, (Y/n) could go to sleep that night, she climbed into Tadashi's bed and closed her eyes, not having anything to worry about.
