"I just don't get it."

"Oh boy, here we go again."Jack slumped on Jace's sofa and made a show of collapsing, heaving out a sigh after twenty minutes of Jace ranting and complaining and changing emotions so rapidly in a way that would make a hormonal pregnant woman jealous.

"Bear with me man. "Jace shot at his best friend, who was loudly drinking a milk shake through the world's most ridiculous straw, shaped like a unicorn.

"Am trying to, dude, but with all this pacing, I don't think I can keep up. "

Jace stopped pacing and sat down, grabbing a folder that he had brought from the office concerning the great Sunway Mall building.

He tried to peruse through it, then slumped back down in defeat.

"I just don't understand. "

Jack rolled his eyes.

"I mean, one minute she was looking at me and batting eyelashes and the next she was practically running out of there. I can't make sense of it. "

And of course, he was talking about his failed dinner with Mia.

Jack couldn't take it anymore.

"Okay, first, she couldn't have run since you were mid air and the results could have been catastrophic, and second, it's been three days man get over it. "

"Exactly. It's been three days, and I think she's intentionally ignoring me. "

"Well, don't keep texting her or calling her, you don't wanna come off as desperate. "

"Of course am not calling her that oftenly, and plus, it's only business nothing else. Trust me, if this wasn't about the Sunway, I would've stopped calling her centuries ago. "

"You keep telling yourself that. From my opinion, you're utterly and completely whooped. "

"I am so not. "

Jack cocked an eyebrow and fixed an intent gaze on him.

Jace stared back for two minutes straight before cracking.

"Okay, maybe a little. "He responded, too tired to argue with Jack, he was a basketball player and way too competitive.

"Don't give me that crap, for goodness sake, I caught you sniffing an apple, Jace. An apple! "Jack exploded at him, making Jace raise his hands in surrender.

Whatever. He was not about to admit to Jack that he was secretly in love with a fiercely attractive and verbally terrifying woman he met a few months ago.

He would never hear the end of it.

"How'd your photoshoot go? "He opted to change the subject, while going through the Sunway folder on his laptop, more seriously this time.

"Okay, I guess. That girl is really angry. Like all the time. "

"I thought you like angry girls. "

"Yeah, well, she's a little over the top. But it's good for me, once she explodes, I get all the information I need. "

"Exactly what information do you need? "

Jack just smiled mischievously.

Jace had immediately arrived at the offices when he got that call pertaining to the building at hand, and he had almost let out a sigh of relief when he stepped into the conference room and saw his associate, Mia, dressed in an elegant black dress, looking as well bred as the day he first laid his eyes on her.

He took Jack's advice and pretended to not have seen her, taking care to not directly approach her, 'playing it cool'.

This was the day that ideas where going to be laid on the table, letting the best one win and commencing phase three of building the one of a kind structure in town.

It was a hot Thursday afternoon, and he had ditched his dress coat, remaining in only a crispy white shirt that seemed undeterred even in the blazing weather, and his charcoal pants.

He wanted to not be nervous about seeing her, but clearly he was, and the gold rolex on his wrist that he was trying too hard to put the clasp back on didn't do anything to help either.

But all at the same time, he was proud of himself for how completely calm and collected he was on the outside, and how good it was working out for him. From the corner of his eye, he saw that Mia kept nervously glancing at his direction, as if she couldn't decide whether to come over or not.

So then they continued to play their silent game, though they knew as the supervisors of this entire project, they were going to have to face each other soon enough.

Their soon came about twenty minutes in, when Jace was backing up from speaking with his head architect and bumped into Mia, who was escaping Malik's frozen glare.

"Sorry. "Jace was quick to apologize, while Mia tried to balance herself on her impractical heels.

"Oh, it's okay. "She responded, figuring that now that fate had decided to make them collide, in a literal sense, why not just play along.

Figures flashed in her eyes, and the past events of the week seemed to awaken inside her, pulling her A game on.

Jace watched as she stroked her hair over her shoulder, her signature move that always send him subtle warning signs. She smiled at him coyly, and looked up at him with a terrifying darkness in her eyes, and for a minute he was taken aback.

But he too was not a quitter, and the sooner he made it more obvious to her, the better. He was determined to have something, or rather someone, that he wanted in his life that didn't involve his father or his nasty schemes, that he wasn't trying to please for the sake of his dad.

Someone different.

Something different.

"Haven't heard from you in a while, is everything okay? "Jace asked, pocketing his hands.

"Everything's okay. Thanks for asking. "Mia said with a little laugh that was a bit confusing on his side.

"Good. For a minute there, I thought you had quit on me. "Jace said, and neither of them missed the double meaning to his words, and right there and then, Mia knew he had caught on.

She cursed her inner self for not being more subtle about trying to seduce him, but she was a master planner, and she would be a fool to not have two or three back up plans on her.

In this case, the plan was go just go along with it, and eventually hope he would forget the seduction and embrace the falling in love of it.

Which she certainly knew was going to happen, the boy was a hopeless romantic at heart.

His gaze was still fixed on her, and his eyes kept travelling from her eyes, to her lips and back, and he cursed his carnal instincts for the pictures they were getting into his head.

Her lips moved to say something, a response to his words, and had he not be paying such close attention to her mouth he would've missed the words.

"Well, you're in luck Jace. Because am not a quitter. "

She smirked devilishly, the strength of her words hitting him at a full impact.

He drew in a breath and stepped back a little, making her soul-crashing inner self smile victoriously, he didn't yet know what he was signing up for.

Jace awkwardly scratched the back of his neck.

"I guess I am lucky, "He said, suddenly hugging a wave of manliness that came over him and knowing he had only one chance to embrace this newly-found confidence  before it evaporated, so he did the next thing his brain told him to do.

"Are you free tomorrow evening? "

Apparently, his brain had told him to ask her out again.

He wasn't at all sure if this was the best idea, considering their last date had been somewhat a fail.

Mia barely had a second to consider his words, before he panicked and started mumbling.

"If.. If you're busy I'll completely understand or maybe..uh.. d.. do you think am taking it too fast?" He was stammering, breaking out in a cold sweat and she hadn't even lifted a finger.

Yes! She wanted to shout, this is way too fast you idiot!

But then again, maybe it wasn't, and besides, she was a woman with an objective.

"Depends."She stepped closer, and lifted her hand to touch his snow white collar, "what's you're perspective? "

Jace became dumbstruck, his collar suddenly ten times tighter, and the room a hundred more degrees hotter.

"I.. Uh..No? "

"Then, "she stepped into his space, "you're not taking it fast enough. "

And in a blur she was gone, leaving him a hot and bothered mess, his state frozen, her touch still lingering on his neck, and a stupid shy smile on his face.

The meeting was commencing, everyone was starting to take a seat, the big screen was being switched on, and both teams were beginning to assemble their presentation, Monroe Vs Falcon.

He was walking to his seat, someone was whispering something in his ear, he was taking a sip of cold still water brought in by his secretary, and then he was sitting down, trying to set his mind back on the matters at hand.

But he could only see one thing, hear one thing, and respond to one thing.

Her sitting across the mahogany table, smiling mischeviously at him, daring him to block her out.

He couldn't. He was her puppet.
