Chapter 22 *

"I bet they already fucked," Liam shrugged as Cameron almost spit out his drink.

"Dude! Gross!" Cameron put his drink down, the way she captivated their attention once again made Kian roll his eyes.

Even if Kian was utterly annoyed by her, he couldn't help but think she would become more important to the group as days passed, and maybe not in a good way. Seeing how careless she was dancing with the boss made him pissed off, how could she act so carefree when this life isn't meant for her.

"Hey, remember," Myles nudged Kian as they stared at her. "She's lost people too."

"She literally lost her mom recently because of us," Liam sighed.

"She didn't choose this life," Myles glared at Kian before smacking his head lightly. "Be nice, you can't blame her for having a bit more humanity inside."

"She's controlling him, you guys don't see it?" Kian scoffed as he pointed at them. "She's got him wrapped around her finger and could use Chris against us."

"Let the boss have some fun," Cameron glared at Kian. "You ever see him in such a good mood?"

"Stop being a hater," Liam groaned.

"I guess I can't confide in anyone these days," Kian sighed. "Whatever, if this team goes down I'm not going down with it."

"She'll warm up to you I know it," Myles raised his eyebrows at him.

"What makes you so sure?" Kian crossed his arms as he faced Myles.

"I know," Myles shot him a smug look before they all changed the conversation.

Back on the dance floor were Fallon's arms around Chris as he swayed them side to side, he was getting pretty drunk as well and stopped talking letting the girl speak for herself.

"Chris, the music is so good!" She slurred her words as she finally let her head rest on his chest. "We need to make a playlist, so that way when we host parties people will want to come!"

"Mhmm," He mumbled holding back a smile, it was threatening to come out but he remained calm.

"I think I want to go home," She sighed finally stopping her movements. "I'm getting sleepy."

"We can go home," He looked at her fondly for a quick second as he held her hand and dragged her off, one quick motion to the boys they all found each other and followed after the pair.

The ride home was a bit quieter as some of the boys fell asleep. Fallon was curled up against Chris's chest, and this time she was able to drift off into a slumber. Chris had his right arm holding himself at the seat in front of him, he was a little uncomfortable and he knew he'd feel better if his arm was around her but he couldn't move too fast. That would be weird, right?

"We're home," The boys poured out of the car once again and Chris was in the same position as last time.

Carrying Fallon's body in his arms, Chris went up the stairs and did his routine of laying her on her bed and taking off her makeup.

"Chris," Fallon held his wrist as he sat next to her on the body, she remained laid on the bed but her eyes just barely opened to look at him. "Thank you."

"For what?" He chuckled staring at her hand.

"You were good on this mission, you did good." She smiled before closing her eyes. "I was able to do good because of you."

"Thanks, I bet," He nodded turning to leave but she pulled his wrist toward her and he almost fell on top of her, with his arms breaking his fall he was staring at her face as she opened her eyes slowly.

"Why do you always leave quickly?" She questioned as she lifted her hand, he flinched a bit as she placed her hand onto his cheek slowly caressing it. "Stay."

"We're both drunk, I don't think that's smart," He almost stuttered his words as his heartbeat moved quicker, he didn't know how to process this situation since he was clearly drunk.

He would never think about taking advantage of her, especially in this state- somehow that message didn't get across to her seeming as if she was ready to act flirty with him. He was still just a bit more self-aware than she was so he pulled her hand from his cheek to her side, "Go to sleep."

"What if someone gets me though? When I'm drunk?" She frowned.

"You would rather have me in your room than to keep everyone out and just lock the door?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Strange feeling, I feel like I understand you," She explained to him with a certain spark in her eyes. "I shouldn't trust you like this I know- I've told myself multiple times that it's not right but somehow I feel like I can."

     "You really shouldn't-"

"What's a gang without trust?" Fallon cut Chris off, he pushed himself off of her and lay next to her on the bed. They stared at the ceiling in silence before turning to their sides to stare at each other.

"You're smart, I'll give you that," He sighed.

"Thanks, I can when I need to be," Fallon smiled and Chris felt himself weaken at the sight, her smile was cute and her rosy cheeks made her look even more ethereal.

"So what's going to happen if I leave your room?" Chris raised his eyebrow at her as she let out a sly smile.

"I'll just have to kidnap you," She teased making Chris smile right back at her, the alcohol made him find things more amusing.

"Okay, I'll stay here for tonight," Chris gave up. "This is the last night, okay?"

"I can just ask Lloyd to stay in my room then," Fallon pouted.

     "I'm replaceable? Ouch." He winced.

"I'm going to sleep," She slipped under the covers as he did too, and they both continued to stare at each other in a peaceful silence before drifting off into sleep.

                                                                                             * * *

"I think you're not used to others telling you that you're in the wrong," Stella brushed her hands across Luke's shoulders. "I can show you I can be more useful, all you have to do is command it."

"Stop with the games, Stel," Luke closed his eyes inhaling her scent before looking at her filled with spite.

"What games?" She smirked standing across his desk. "I am completely serious when it comes to this subject, you need more direction when it comes to missions-"

"Then I'll take you off the team," He stated writing on the paper on his desk.

"Excuse me," Stella placed both hands on his desk and leaned in staring at him dead in the eye. "That's not what I said-"

"But it's what you meant, right? You want to tell me how to run my gang and become the big boss?"  Luke turned just a simple lecture into an argument, sometimes Stella infuriated him because of her big opinions regarding missions.

"Your men almost died today if it weren't for me, be a little more grateful," Stella snickered sitting on his desk. "I've been on what? Ten missions with you guys already and I find flaws? You're the most wanted and feared man in the U.S. and you make mistakes?"

"I just can't have you out there, it's not safe, and if you going wandering off like you know what you're doing-"

"It's not safe? Luke-" She cut him off before she scoffed. "It's almost as if that's my job. To go out on missions like this and deal with whatever outcome! I don't get a written job description but I'm pretty sure it speaks for itself."

Luke slammed his hands on the table before making his way in front of the girl, she swung her legs not having a care in the world at how angry he had gotten. It's not like she was afraid of him, she found it cute when he was angry because she somehow knew he wouldn't lay a finger on her. Not like how the men in her old gang used to do...

This newfound confidence she had was being so good to her, she wasn't afraid and she always acted like she knew what she was doing. Luke wanted her so bad it was hard to keep himself away from her. She was an excellent grifter when it came to missions she could seduce men and it irked the boss to see the way she acted. It was almost the same way she had spoken to him when they first met, she wasn't always like this in fact in her old gang she wasn't known for being a grifter she was the thief.

"You sure have a mouth on you," He placed his fingers on her chin as she closed her eyes with a sly smile.

"Thank you for noticing, boss." She replied before opening her eyes. "Now, are you starting to worry about me? Getting cold feet?"

"Stop talking like that, talk to me like you used-" He stopped himself before letting go of her and turning around to dig his head into his hands. "Just leave."

"Boss, can I be real with you?" She changed her tone making him turn back to her, she had a serious look instead of her usual smirk. Seeing her this way brought peace to Luke as he hadn't seen her like this in some time.

"Yes," He replied with almost a begging look.

"If I don't keep up this energy, this team that we have could fall," She stared at her hands before looking back up at him. "I have to be strong, I have to look confident and I can't look weak I just can't."

"That's my job, not yours," Luke placed his hands on Stella trying his best to comfort her. "You're allowed to cry and feel things with the other members-"

"I only want to feel things with you," Stella planted her feet on the floor as she stared up at Luke. "If you won't reveal your feelings to the other then I won't either."

"Who do you think you are to decide that? You're being ridiculous-"

"I see you hurt and I see that you struggle to handle all of this," She cut him off placing her hand on his cheek with a small smile. "I can help you."

"No, Stella no." Luke took a step away trying to avoid her stare but she kept a poker face as she walked towards him.

"You said you've been doing this for ten years now, when is it going to be time to settle down?"

"I don't want to, it's not possible for a guy like me-"

"If I could do it, you can too," She reassured.

"What are you getting at?" He looked at her like she was crazy, he was feeling his heart about to burst out of his chest with how she was acting. What the hell did she want?

"I know what you said about me to your best man," She whispered into his ear with a grin. "Saying things like that about your co-worker isn't so leader material of you."

His eyes widened as she leaned back, he recalled talking to his best man about the sudden feelings he developed for her and he couldn't stand the way she talked with other men. He became jealous every time his gang talked to her because to him she was someone he knew could lead the gang just as well as he could. It fired something inside of him to see how dominant she could be and the fact she didn't need anyone but she chose to stay with them to help them. She was loyal and he knew that he hadn't seen someone like that in years he had to kill so many traitors but she was perfect even if she came from a bad background.

"I won't deny it," He cursed under his breath. "But I don't think that it's an invitation for you."

"Why can't we date?" She frowned.

"I don't just date people, it's for the weak," He took a step away from her. "It'll mess everything up, that wasn't meant for you to hear."

"I can prove to you how valuable I can be," She walked towards him but he placed his hands up.

"No, I know you are but I need to protect the gang," He sighed running his hands through his hair.

"From what? Me? I know I came from the other gang-"

"You're a girl, you're a smart one but you don't know about the one that got away," Luke sat back at his desk chair. "Take a seat."

Stella took a seat across from him and listened in carefully, her feelings remained intact because she knew she couldn't show how weak he's made her. Not like with Mark, she didn't regret professing her feelings to him but she did regret letting him control her like that. She told herself never again, she wasn't going to look like a fool like she was with Mark- She was going to be confident and feared by anyone who wanted to challenge her! She was glad Luke took her under his wing to help and she couldn't help but fall deeper and deeper when she was around him... Maybe she could show him, maybe she can teach him that there is still hope for them. It's not like he doesn't share the same feelings, he's just scared about the outcome! That's it!
