Baby Preparations

Naruto looked around the blank empty room with a calculated eye. He knew he was getting twins, they were a boy and girl pair so the room should be gender neutral. He needed to paint the room and get furniture and buy baby clothes etc. This was going to be a long day, he was practically due in a few weeks and he was excited. He couldn't keep the smile off his face as he walked around making a mental list of things he needed to get. After dropping off Boruto and Shikadai at school and carrying Himawari to the Nara compound for some quality time among the deer she's become obsessed with recently, he went to the office.

"Is she under Anbu?" Shikamaru asked as soon as he stepped in the room.

"Of course, never can leave her alone for long," Naruto said thinking back on the three Anbu located in a triangle formation in the trees surrounding Himawari. Protection of the precious baby girl is never a bother.

Naruto got around his desk and began the laborious task of doing paperwork, he now had the energy to go through the stack with ease and with Shikamaru's help they were done by midday. Shikamaru ordered in food and they had lunch which was BBQ and Ice Cream. Naruto didn't have a lot of cravings but when he did it was for sweets.

"Ne Shikamaru," Naruto called half way through his serving, Shikamaru gave him a smile. "I think it's time we went shopping for the bundles you've laid in me."

"Naruto we've talked about this, it takes cooperation on both ends to make bundles, you agreed to have them laid in you," Shikamaru said patiently as he packed up the used cartons of food, Naruto blushed and threw his empty container after him.

"Can we shop or what?" Naruto asked twirling in his chair. Shikamaru laughed and nodded before they headed out.

Shikamaru groaned as he paused admiring all the baby cribs available. They were beautiful but he didn't like that they were dyed in colors. Naruto was expressing this to the shop owner who nodded and gave Naruto a paper and pencil. Naruto began sketching on the paper and that got Shikamaru curious, he went over and noticed that Naruto was placing a custom order for the cribs.

"Mahogany wood and the Kurama's depiction should be made out of cherry wood. I want it to have a section on the side bars available for engraving their names." Naruto described as he gave the man a detailed depiction of what the crib should be like.

Shikamaru was impressed with the drawing he didn't know Naruto had this skill under wraps. After they left the store they headed to the mall section of the village for clothes. "I didn't know you could draw." Shikamaru murmured as they casually strolled into the largest store the Hidden Leaf had. People were telling them 'Good afternoon' and such.

"I have never been good at explaining things and found it easier to just draw what's going on in my head. Guess it just stuck with me." Naruto shrugged a little embarrassed.

"I wish I could draw like that, it would be so helpful when explaining under cover assignments." Shikamaru dragged out as they headed over to the baby section.

"It comes naturally and with practice. Knowing you your too lazy for that crap." Naruto chuckled. Shikamaru smiled and ruffled his own hair in agreement.

Himawari pestered Hanabi into showing her a tradition of the Hyugas' when new babies where to be born. Hima-chan knew that her new siblings weren't going to be Hyuga but it was what she could offer to them when they came about. Hyuga mothers knitted the first outfit a baby would ever wear and frame it after it is worn. Himawari still had hers in her room. It was a lilac and red one piece. Her former mother was skilled with knitting.

Now she was learning from Hanabi, her former mother taught her the basics but she could improve in time for them to pop out. She wanted the colors to be dark green and burnt orange in coordination of her parents favorite colors and clan colors. She hoped they turned out well.

Boruto growled in frustration as he dug through all the boxes he found unnecessary to pack out when he moved into their new home. Shikadai was in a similar situation as he tore through his boxes with a little less energy than his brother.

"What if we can't find them in time," Boruto groaned as he laid back in the mess he created. Shikadai shook his head in protest.

"We will Mom's not due for at least a few more weeks, we'll make it. I just wish I made note on where I kept them." Shikadai responded in slight frustration.

They were looking for their baby clothes to give their new brother and sister. It was unheard of now to give babies hand me downs but to them it was adorable to see little siblings in their big siblings clothes. They wanted to experience that, afterwards when they started taking higher paying missions they can afford to spoil them without care. They smiled with the thought and dug into the boxes with new vigor.

"We're home!" Naruto and Shikamaru announced as they took off their shoes. Several screams and a slamming door was heard and this sparked interest with the parents. They headed upstairs and saw Himawari by the door which was going to be the twins baby room, she had splotches of paint in her hair and on her purple overalls, it was clashes of vibrant colors.

"They're here, abort mission!" She squeaked and ran back in the room shutting the door. They heard an audible click of the lock.

"Himawari," Naruto said loudly in a warning tone.

"Shikadai," Shikamaru sighed.

"Boruto!" They both yelled through the door.

They could both hear shuffling behind the door and small minor curses being whispered and they held back laughter as the door was opened only a tiny bit. They could only make out the distinct eye of their children.

"Why is my name always yelled." Boruto whined.

"Because it's always your ideas," Hima-chan started.

"That get us in trouble." Shikadai finished with a sigh.

"But it was a good idea," Boruto defended.

"I actually wanted to complete my part too," Hima-chan pouted.

Naruto couldn't hold his laughter at the bickering, they were so adorable. "I don't want you guys to grow up." He said as he calmed himself down. Shikamaru nodded in agreement.

"Open the door so we can assess the damage," Shikamaru said jokingly. They whined as the door opened to reveal a beautifully colored room. Naruto stared in awe as he took in the room, they were nearly finished painting.

Half the room was a deep blue with red Uzumaki swirls, the other half was Nara green with black decorations of deer. The trim on the floor wasn't finished but you could make out the movements of a fox dashing around the room in the depictions that wasn't painted yet. They were midway through that. The ceiling was painted white and had the Nara clan and Uzumaki clan symbols in their respective colors.

"Fuck this is beautiful," Naruto said and started laughing. "Oh my god, this is amazing." The kids brightened at this compliments.

"It's not done yet, Inojin and Sai helped with the deer and clan symbols. We wanted to do the foxes so we just asked that they outlined the fox for us to paint in." Himawari said shyly.

"You guys are amazing, I was honestly lost on how this room was going to turn out." Shikamaru said as he observed the room. It was done beautifully.

"Okay Shikamaru we are getting out, let's not disrupt the chakra in here." Naruto said pushing them out. Shikamaru rolled his eyes playfully but allowed himself to be pushed out. "Continue my babies, I'll be making your favorites as rewards."

"Yes!" Broruto cheered, Himawari grinned and Shikadai smiled under his paint streaked face. They rushed back to finish the foxes proud that their parents loved the design of the room.

"They make an interesting trio." Shikamaru said as they headed downstairs.

"Indeed they do, I love them. They always try to put forward their best selves." Naruto agreed smiling.
