Summary: Fairen, daughter of Lord Elrond and a princess of Imladris, claims title of the fairest and fiercest maiden in all of Middle Earth. When a small Hobbit, along with friends, finds their way to Rivendell, she cannot help but give into curiosity. Her want to help, stubborn attitude, and an old but true friendship lands her in the middle of the journey to destroy the One Ring. It is here where the real battle begins, as she combats flirtatious comments and orc scum, all while realizing and disguising her true feelings. If only the gift of foresight ran in the family, for not even Fairen could predict what would come to be.
¬¬¬
"Fairen, I will not allow it. The journey to Mordor is long and dangerous, I cannot have my child's life put on the line due to mere curiosity and the want to rekindle old friendships."
"But, ada! You must listen! I will not be harmed. Gandalf will be with us - and, Legolas - both are dear friends of mine and yours. They're trusted and have never done anything to wrong either of us or our people. They will pro-."
"Enough! It is my job to protect you Fairen, not theirs. I will not consent to your death."
"I understand that you care ada, but please! I beg of you to not be upset about this! I am no longer a child, I have the ability to take care of myself. Please realize this, and understand that I originally came here to tell you of my plans to accompany the Fellowship. I was not here to ask you, I was simply saying farewell. It is not your job to choose my path, it's simply up to me."
¬¬¬
The journey had felt endless already, despite the Fellowship having left Rivendell mere days ago. Yet, this conversation still troubled you and you couldn't help but recollect it.
You had not gotten to properly say goodbye, and you didn't tell your father you loved him before you set off on your journey. He was furious with your decisions, and it was because of this that your heart ached for your father. Not only did this sadden you, but the thought of your return - or, surely, lack thereof - did. You did not know if you would come back to the kingdom you called home to fix what was damaged between the both of you.
"Why, fair maiden, what troubles you?" A confident voice chimed from beside you, slowing you in your tracks.
You took a deep breath, calming yourself and casting a sideways glance at the unnamed figure. You saw it was Boromir of Gondor, son of Denethor. An admirable fighter and skilled captain of his guard, yet rumored to have a reputation of accompanying many women. You could see what he wanted in his eyes, though he thought he was secretive.
"I know what it is that you seek, Boromir. I am flattered, truly, but you mustn't try your luck, for I have eyes for another." You lied smoothly, hoping that would deter him from further pursuit of your affection.
Suddenly, all commotion around you stopped, causing your eyes to widen in shock. My stars! Everyone turned toward you, taken aback, but none more so than Legolas. As a dear friend, you were sure that he was surprised that he had no knowledge of the matter.
"I see, might I ask who it may be?" Boromir inquired, seemingly embarrassed from his rather brash actions.
Surprised, and wanting to rid yourself of this unwanted attention, you hastily conjured up another fib.
"You wouldn't know him. He's but a common warrior. Honestly, we mustn't stop a journey as detrimental as this to discuss such a frilly matter. It certainly is not worth it. Come, we must move."
You gulped, and continued marching as the others hesitantly began following, digesting such information. You did not understand why it was such a surprise?
Soon enough, as you all decided to set up camp, you felt someone gently grasp your hands.
"Fairen, I am so pleased to hear such information. Have they knowledge of your feelings? Are you courting yet?" Legolas asked, a strained smile on his face as he fired questions at you a bit too eagerly.
Although you and Legolas could spend decades at a time with no connection, you always seemed to pick up where you had left off. This was just another one of those instances. You licked your lips nervously, looking into his eyes. You knew you could not lie to such a close companion.
"Legolas," you mumbled, pulling him slightly away from the group, "it is not true. I only fibbed to stop the others from talking to me in such an unflattering manner."
He hesitated, his face washed in a knowing look.
"This is not good, my friend. I understand that the attention is not ideal, but lying is no better. We are on a journey that requires our closeness between these kin. You must tell them, it's what's right."
"I'm aware Legolas. Yet, I must admit, the silence that has fallen from Boromir's mouth since has given me great pleasure." You laughed slightly, then became serious again at Legolas's stare.
"I know you, Fairen. The guilt, though small now, will grow. You've never been good at maintaining a lie, mellon." Legolas grimaced.
"I understand. I will tell them, lest if I didn't, you would never let me forget my wrongdoings." You grinned, returning to the group with Legolas soon joining.
As camp settled down and everyone sat by the blazing fire, you could feel a certain gaze on you. Nervously, you began clasping and unclasping your hands. Legolas cleared his throat from across camp, giving you an impatient look.
You hated to admit defeat, but he was undoubtedly right. You were beginning to feel the guilt. After all, you had told quite the lie, not to mention one that hurt Boromir's feelings. It was not right of you, even if what he had done was not particularly favorable.
"Alright," you mumbled under your breath, clasping your hands for the final time and standing.
Everyone immediately retracted their eyes to you, a few curious questions fluttering around the group.
"I am sorry to admit that I have deceived you. I do not have feelings for another elf in Imladris. I had only found what Boromir said to me to be tasteless. I was raised to be noble and to have honor, and it is not in my blood to keep secrets from any of you." You admitted, possibly a bit too fast.
"So, this means that you aren't seeing anyone?" Giggled one of the Hobbits.
You nodded in response, hearing a small "yes!" being cheered between Pippin and Merry. You internally groaned, not again.
¬¬¬
"You look ravishing in this lighting, my dear Fairen."
"It's nighttime, there is barely any light, and the moon is clouded over. However, nice try, Boromir." You'd say.
"You're named 'Fairen' because you're so fair, amirite?"
"That was very confident of you, Samwise, but you are mistaken. I was named after a dear friend that passed in battle." You shot down.
"You're surely hotter than the flames of Mount Doom and the embers we shall face."
"It's still not impressive, Boromir." You would grumble listlessly.
It was the same routine everyday.
Wake up, dodge shoddy pickup lines from the Hobbits, then you would eat breakfast, pack up, and move on. All the while, Boromir would compliment you in such ways that would make any girl blush, but you were not impressed.
You had grown quite annoyed, yet accustomed to their behaviors. They only held a vexatious quality at this point. However, it shockingly held its perks. With this dilemma, you and Legolas had begun to spend even more time together . Surely a crush was developing on your end.
"Fairen, would you care to help me collect firewood? Gimli has asked for our help." Legolas knocked you out of your thoughts as you nodded.
You headed to the woods, bumping shoulders and shoving each other just as children would. It was refreshing.
"I bet I can collect more sticks than you, mellon." You challenged, winking as you entered a small clearing.
Soon enough, your arms were filled with kindling, but you couldn't give up just yet. Searching, you spotted a stick a few feet away and immediately reached for it, only to be met with Legolas' pale hand.
You blushed, almost dropping your pile of twigs. You were shocked and felt butterflies flutter in your stomach. Quickly, you released your grip on the ellon's hand, coughing awkwardly. Yet, still, you remained in close proximity, gazing at him in a different perspective.
Legolas cleared his throat, almost seeming uncomfortable.
"You may have the stick, if you please. You'll need it to win."
You both grinned as you picked it up.
"Why, thank you, but I do hope you enjoy losing." You jested, tapping his nose with the tip of the stick. You happily skipped off with a giddy feeling in your gut.
¬¬¬
"Legolas, give it back for Ilúvatar's sake!" You cried, jumping up and down, balancing on your tiptoes.
"I'm afraid I cannot. I believe a promise is to be fulfilled." Legolas coaxed, holding your rucksack even higher above his head.
You never did enjoy the idea of Legolas using his height against you. He always had been significantly larger, yet your attitude surely made up for your lack of stature.
Groaning, you playfully punched his chest, giving into his stubborn attitude.
"Fine, but only because I would like my bag." You hesitated, opening your mouth to loudly announce that "Legolas Greenleaf is the greatest archer in all of Middle Earth."
You playfully looked at him, despite knowing that your skills were much better than his own. Yet, unhappiness was still painted across his porcelain features. You really didn't want to finish such an embarrassing sentence.
"And...?" He coaxed, nodding at you to continue as his grip tightened around the leather strap of your bag.
"I cannot, Legolas. It's embarrassing...."
His grin faltered momentarily and his shoulders slackened. Although, as soon as it had come, it had went. He was quite obviously not about to give up on such a cheeky statement. The nerve of elves sometimes.
"And, he is the most handsome. There! Are you satisfied?" You quickly said, rolling your eyes and crossing your arms impatiently.
He smirked, setting the bag beside him.
"Now, was that so hard? Don't deny that you find it true." He winked, unfolding your arms and wrapping them around his waist in a hug, which he returns.
He muttered a soft "thank you," heartily laughing into your hair.
"Oh, Legolas, why must you antagonize me so?"
¬¬¬
The fire crackled and a deafening silence settled upon the Fellowship.
You had noticed Aragorn's uneasy attitude as of late, and you could not help but find him continuously staring at a necklace. You were beginning to worry about your friend.
Slowly, you made your way over, eyeing him as he pawed upon the necklace. You immediately recognized it as the symbol of the evenstar.
"Aragorn, may I ask you what's the matter?" You said, trying to hide your conversation from the others.
He looked up to you, quickly clasping both hands around the jewel and giving you a strained gaze.
He sighed. "I'm fine. I apologize for troubling you."
Placing a hand on his shoulder, you nodded your head away from the group, towards the edge of the woods. He gave you a knowing look and followed you to the brush.
"That necklace, it isn't yours, is it? I recognize it." You speculated, grabbing his hands to reveal the jewel.
"Fairen, do you believe in love?" He gulped, not meeting your gaze as he thumbed at the gem.
You pondered, thinking of a certain person you had developed feelings for, then nodded.
"I do, and I'm right to assume that necklace is my sisters. You must be the mystery man that she has gushed to me about for all these years." You smiled, not realizing it was Aragorn all this time. You were happy for your sister. He was a good man.
"Aye, was her mystery man." He corrected. It was then that your heart dropped.
You quickly apologized and you couldn't help but feel closer to Aragorn after your talk. You felt bad for their circumstances and upset that they had separated. Even the morning after the conversation you still harbored strong feelings.
"You were talking to Aragorn." Legolas complained, tearing you away from the group. You were shocked, this was very unlike him.
"I'm sorry, Legolas, but it's not your concern. It was a private matter." You said with a strained tone, confused by his actions. You turned to catch up to the dwarf when he pulled you back yet again.
"I wasn't asking." Legolas stated, stepping towards you.
"What is this about, Legolas?" Your voice wavered, concern bubbling in your stomach.
"Fairen, do you not know of my feelings for you? After so many centuries, I thought I had given myself away." Legolas crooned.
Your eyes widened. Feelings?
"What do you mean? You admire me?" You inhaled, your heart slamming against your rib cage.
He bit his lip, shaking his head. His hands slowly found their way to your cheeks, caressing them, and he smiled warmly.
"For years I have found myself adoring you, but retaining my emotions. Fairen, I love you very much. D-do you reciprocate my feelings?" He shyly asked, eyes looking away from yours. All the confidence from before seemed to wash away from him.
You grinned, wrapping your arms around his slender waist, causing him to face you again.
"Of course I do," you breathed, "I love you so much, mela'mithril."
The moment the words left your lips, you were already being spun into the wind with a tight hug by a grateful elf.
"You have made me that happiest creature in all of Middle Earth, Fairen."
¬¬¬
You admired the gold band upon your finger, still remembering your wedding as if it was yesterday. Your heart ached with love for your soon-to-be-expanding family. Already, you were gifted with child, a boy named Sylvas, just as handsome and brave as his father. Yet, just as skilled as you with his wooden play swords.
You were ecstatic to let your family know of your pregnancy. A daughter had been blessed upon you. Again, your heart swelled.
Slowly, you made your way to your loving home, near the center of Ithilien. You smiled happily as men and women nodded at you thoughtfully, while vendors yelled from their stands. The scampering of children stopped you in your tracks as they rushed by on the cobblestone ground, yelling quick "sorry's" behind them. You couldn't help but picture the sound of small feet running across the floor of your home, filling the void that your all-too-independent toddler left behind.
You sighed, meandering towards your home, entering to the smell of stew being boiled above the fire.
"Bain, you're back. Tell me, what has the healer told you of your sickness?" Legolas fussed, Sylvas wrapped upon his hip, struggling to get away from his ada's grasp.
He sprung free, hugging your legs and crying "naneth!"
"Hello, my son," You grinned, petting his long hair lovingly, moving your gaze back to your husband. "I have news."
A scared look crossed his features, just as Sylvas let go of you, mirroring the same look.
"It is great news, come." You clapped your hands together, gathering your family.
"We have been gifted another child - a sister." You grinned, squeezing your husband's hand.
They looked shocked, but cheers almost immediately erupted, Legolas picking both of you up and kissing your cheeks.
As your family cheered for joy, you couldn't envision a more perfect life.

This is so long and it's my first "attempt" at writing some fluff. Hopefully, it's alright, and thank you for reading!
