Some of the unit stood in Sharon Goodwin's office with Chief Boden, Kelly Severide and Sharon. They were going over what had occurred once they found Jane Doe in the afternoon. The day had seemed to get longer for Jay and Pru, but the Halstead man showed no signs of exhaustion. All that was held in his eyes was determination which may soon end up getting him hurt.
"She said she was hiding and he came to kill them. Then before she lost consciousness, she said that she would be free now. I'm running her prints and DNA, but no ID yet." Jay informed the group.
"Alright, Chief?" Voight nodded towards Boden who soon directed all of their attention down to a map of the apartment building that was laid on the desk.
"Fire originated in apartment 20E. We found Jane Doe's body here outside the apartment. Burns indicated she was most likely crawling, trying to escape the flames." Boden started the overview of everything.
"Door to 20E was open. That's how the fire spread. The other John Doe's were found inside the apartment- one in the bed, one near the front door." Kelly pointed out.
"Okay, so she said that he came back to kill them. So the offender enters the apartment, he kills both John Does, the Jane Doe's hiding, the offender goes to light the fire, she tries to escape, and then gets beaten unconscious." Jay puts together a simple backstory.
"Injuries run against that, Sharon?" Voight wondered.
"It could be consistent. Jane Doe suffered a ulna fracture, internal injuries, third degree burns. We also treated her for heavy smoke inhalation." Sharon listed off the injuries of the mystery women.
"So, the offender beats her, thinks she's dead, but she comes to in the fire. Opens the front door and tries to escape, crawling her way to the elevator?" Pru pitched in her thought on what Jane Doe did.
"Arson was just a cover up for the double homicide." Adam spoke up.
"And the rest were collateral damage." Kelly commented as Jay's eyebrows furrowed. A knock on the door sounded and Ethan Choi walked in.
"Jane Doe didn't make it. Pronounced her a minute ago." He informed them.
"Alright. We need to get going. Thank you." Voight thanked them as they left the intelligence members in the room.
"Start with apartment 20E. Antonio, get Jane Doe's GPS chip to OCD tech right away." Voight instructed.
"I'll run it up with Vice, too. It's common practice these days for pimps to chip their property. I'm guessing Jane Doe was a victim of sex trafficking." Antonio said before he left.
"So we start with what was left behind. I want every piece of paper on that apartment- who was living there, every in-service call. Just scour that crime scene. Work the bodies. Find out what the hell happened in that apartment." Voight told the remaining four who nodded before heading out.

Adam, Kev, and Pru headed back up the stairs into the bullpen. Jay and Hailey stood at the crime board as Voight turned towards the three after telling Jay and Hailey what he wanted them to do. Waiting to be updated by the other three that just arrived back.
"I got spotty elevator and lobby cameras, but the camera nearest the entrance got fritzed out in the fire." Adam began.
"The building across the street got surveillance from the front." Kev said.
"So I was able to get POD footage from the exit in the back. It's not perfect but it's something. When Chicago Fire responded, they ended up blocking the camera." Pru informed Voight.
"Alright, well, start clearing through it fast." Hank told them as he began to walk away.
"Hey, we got anything on that that apartment?" Voight questioned.
"Nothing but sand, Sarge. It's registered under a dummy LLC called Cyde Holdings that does not exist." Kev answered.
"There's no in-service calls, no priors on anyone so far in the apartment. Burgess is still there. She's debriefing the current residents." Adam said.
"So far, everybody is saying the same thing. They thought the apartment was vacant." Kevin added.
"Hey, Sarge, OCD tech lab pulled coordinates off of Jane Doe's GPS chip. I've got every place she has been the last two months outside of Chicago- all two of them." Antonio announced as he walked into the room.
"Tracked to a farmland outside Durango, Mexico, and a compound two miles from Cleveland. I ran those coordinates for John Doe's bullet wounds, for the finger injury. Got a hit." Antonio handed the file over to Voight. The boss looking down at the photo of the man. Slowly, Hank looked back to Antonio.
"Edgar Torres." The boss let out and Antonio nodded in response.
"You're saying Edgar Torres of the Sinaloa Cartel just got hit in Chicago?" Jay asked.
"Hey, Hank. You got a problem downstairs." Trudy Platt interrupted as she took her final step up the stairs.
"Come on, Antonio. You and me." Hank guided Antonio with him.
"Hey, find out what Torres was doing in Chicago, Jay." Voight instructed before he left down the stairs.

"Carlos Mendoza, 56 years old. Been in Chicago for the past 30. DEA caught him up seven years ago, thought he was Torres' driver." Kev began to fill them in on their suspect.
"Held him for 48, grilled him, and they got absolutely nothing. Carlos never said a word." Hailey added.
"Alright, so where's Carlos now?" Voight wondered.
"Lives right here in Chicago. Lives alone in Fuller Park. Also has two adult sons." Kev responded.
"But we still believe he's involved with the cartel. Gets paid every week from a trumped-up LLC." Hailey told them.
"Ran Carlos' cell. Pinged a tower outside Colima, Mexico a few days ago. Matches Jane Doe's GPS coordinates to a T." Kim announced as she walked into the bullpen. Handing all she had over to Voight.
"Right. So, picked up Torres' girlfriend and the bodyguard down in Mexico and drove them all back here." Hank said.
"Just to sell his aSs out." Kev shook his head.
"We got Carlos on footage." Jay spoke as he walked into the room.
"Traffic cam caught him in a silver SUV parked outside the apartment for eight hours." Jay showed them the picture.
"Was he there during the fire?" Hank questioned.
"Whole time." Jay answered.
"Lets move." Voight instructed.

The night time had rolled around once the team got their go ahead. They all stood around a vehicle. All wearing their gear as they waited for the rundown. The air was slightly chilly as they stood in a small half circle.
"Alright, we move careful and silent. Ruzek you're with me. Burgess, Pru, and Upton, you take the downstairs. Halstead, secure the back. Do not enter. Okay? Lets go." Voight told them before they all put their masks down and readied their guns. Antonio picked the lock before they were able to enter the house. Pru, Kim, and Hailey made their way in. Scouting the downstairs quietly and cautiously. There was commotion on the other side of the door into the kitchen. Hailey and Pru gave each other a look before Pru nodded. Hailey kicked the door open and yelled, "FREEZE!" As the two sisters came across Jay with Carlos.
"What the hell, Jay!" Pru exclaimed.
"Why did you come inside?" Hailey asked.
"'Cause I saw movement." Jay responded as he began to pat down Carlos.
"Jay, Hailey almost shot you." Pru let out.
"Yeah, but she didn't." Jay said.
"You broke the plan. I almost put a bullet in your head!" Hailey told him.
"Carlos was going for the back door so I had to make a move, alright? Lets go. Target apprehended. We're coming out." Jay radioed as Pru and Hailey looked at the man in bewilderment.

"Carlos isn't talking yet. We need leverage." Voight called out.
"I've looked through every hour of footage. There's no evidence that Carlos even entered the building. We got Torres, Jane Doe, his security. They all come in five hours before the fire but after that it's only residents. And I've gone through it twice." Adam said.
"Yeah, we've cleared everyone in that building. None of them look like they're involved." Kim spoke.
"Alright, so we go back to the basics. Antonio, keep working Carlos while we backtrack. Look, no one just wakes up in the morning and decides to make a play on a cartel boss. There was planning. Someone got in that building, did those murders, set that fire. Find out how. That'll get us who." Voight told his team before walking away.
"Hey." Pru whispered to Jay who looked at her. She nodded towards the locker room before walking away. The man followed closely behind her as the girl took a deep breath.
"What's up?" Jay asked.
"I know we didn't talk about it last night, but I just want you to know that when you're ready, I'm here to listen." Pru told Jay. He put his hand on her shoulder, looking down into her brown eyes.
"I'm fine." Jay lied as Pru scoffed at his lie, pushing his hand off of her shoulder.
"Jay Halstead. Don't you dare stand there, looking me in my eyes and lie to me." Pru called him out.
"I didn't lie." He spoke his second lie to her as she crossed her arms, unamused.
"Okay. Then what the hell was that last night when we were getting Carlos? You were being reckless. You could've gotten hurt." Pru said.
"I already explained myself in the house." Jay told her.
"No. That was a half-asSed lie. Jay, I understand you just want justice for your father. But putting yourself in a situation that could end up with you getting hurt or worse, dead, is not the right way." Pru went on.
"Pru, I'm just doing my job. Just trying to get the guy who did this." Jay let out.
"And you aren't thinking, you're just doing. Are you trying to tell me you'll sacrifice it all, even it it means your life, just to get this guy? You're not thinking straight." Pru told him.
"Pru, I'm thinking just fine. How I help solve the case doesn't concern you." Jay said.
"That's bullsHit. It does concern me in more way then one. If you try something else that's stupid, I won't hesitate to have Voight take you off this case. I don't care if that makes you mad with me. You could jeopardize this whole thing because your head isn't screwed on all the way right now. So you better walk the line really cautiously, Halstead." Pru blew up before leaving the man alone.
