Treated Like Dirt
And so they taught us
The soil is our earth
The earth is our soil
The minerals
The nutrients
The textures
The smells
The colours
Brown
Black
Grey
Even a rare gold
Our dirt brings us so many opportunities
Endless stories
Limitless potential
Never-ending cycles
Just one seed planted
One tiny, little seed
The roots springing below
Could lead to so many things
A blossom of flowers
A massive tree in the forest
Giving us the air to breath
The oxygen we inhale every day
Or a row of bushes
A yard for your father
A garden for your mother
Fruits and vegetables
Pumpkins and watermelons
Oranges and tomatoes
Along with the greenest grasses
Changing colours in the seasons
Roasting in the sun
Cathcing the rain
Holding up the snow
Swaying in the breeze
Getting cut by the mower
Then growing back over
As the dog paces through it
Catching his bright tennis ball
Wagging his tail with joy
Our dirt has always been with us
And always will be
Since the dawn of time
Trillions of years ago
Dating back to the prehistoric years
Our world uninhabited
Only for the mighty dinosaurs to roam
Leaving us clues behind
Like children finding an Easter egg
As their parents cheer them on
Even deep in the future
Deeper than the bottom of the ocean
Beyond our own comprehension
Our dirt will forever be with us
Following us to the next life
And the life after
And after...
And so I think back
How people treated me
Not everyone
But many more
The way I felt
The way I viewed myself
The way I lost my confidence
The way I see the world
The way I treat others
The way I changed
The way I gave up
The way I didn't sleep
The way I became so biter
To the way I am today
For all the wrong reasons
All the wrong morals
And to never be forgotten
Because I've been treated like dirt
