Cheers
Saturday-
The whole morning Jessica's body trembled. She was anxious to go out with David. Her last real 'date' was with Jason. Danny and Jessica only hung out as friends so there was never an official 'date'.
She was so nervous because she kept thinking of Danny. She couldn't get him out of her mind. It made her sick. She just wanted to enjoy herself and David. He was a nice guy.
Later in the day Sarah stopped by before Jessica left for her date.
When she walked she had pizza, clothes, makeup, and hair supplies for Jessica.
"What the hell is all this for?" Jessica chuckles watching Sarah lay everything out on the bed.
"The pizza is for me. The clothes and stuff are for you."
"I bet this is just casual." Jessica says
"It never hurts to look nice. I brought this dress that I sadly no longer fit in. Take care of it. Go change so we can work on your makeup!" Sarah says tossing the dress.
Jessica gives her a funny look and rolls her eyes.
After Jessica changes Sarah does Jessica's makeup and hair. By this time it was already six, he was coming at seven.
"You look wonderful, Jessica. He's a lucky guy." Sarah says taking another bite of pizza.
Jessica and Sarah were sitting on the couch waiting.
Jessica reached for a piece but Sarah slapped her hand.
"Hey!" Jessica pouts
"Pro-tip, never take food from a pregnant lady."
Jessica rolls her eyes. "Fine."
"I'm happy that you and this David guy are going on a date."
"You don't think it's too soon?"
"No, of course not. Besides you and Danny were never officially a thing."
"True, but still."
"Don't think about him tonight. Damn it Jessica!" Sarah whines.
"Fine..."
7pm-
As Jessica and Sarah are sitting and talking they hear a knock on Jessica's apartment door.
"Alright, remember to be yourself and don't talk about ex's, please!" Sarah says giving her a hug.
"Alright, thank you. Go hide! And lock up for me if you decide to go home."
"Good luck."
Jessica waited for Sarah to go into the other room. She took a deep breath, looked at herself in the mirror one last time, then walked to the door.
When she opened it she saw David wearing a dress shirt, slacks, dockers, and his hair was slicked back perfectly.
Jessica blushed when she saw a dozen red roses in his hand.
"Hi, you look, wow." He smiles
"Thank you. You look pretty nice yourself." She smiles
"I got these for you, I hope you like them. I hope it isn't too much."
"Of course not, they're beautiful. Why don't you come in while I put these in a vase."
David walks in and looks around Jessica's apartment.
"This is a great place." He says walking into the kitchen.
"Thank you, I decorated it myself. When I moved out here it was my own little project." Jessica puts the roses in the living room and smiles.
"Ready?" She says
"Yes!"
David and Jessica drove into the city for dinner. He made reservations at a steak house in Times Square.
When they got to the restaurant they were seated. Jessica and David did lots of talking. He would crack a few jokes that made Jessica laugh uncontrollably. Jessica would tell him stories from Europe that would make his jaw drop. The night was just perfect. Jessica loved talking with him.
"I'm really glad you agreed to go on a date with me." He says sipping his wine.
"I'm glad you asked me. I'm having a great time." She smiles
"Honestly, I've wanted to ask you for a while. I was nervous as to what you'd say."
"Aww, tonight has been great. I honestly don't want it to end. It's been a while since I've been on a nice date like this."
"Well cheers to overcoming fears." He holds up his wine glass
"Cheers" Jessica holds up her glass.
After they ate Jessica and David couldn't stop making conversation. To Jessica, David was such an interesting person and had so many great things to say. David thought the same about Jessica.
...
"So that's how I got into the publishing business. It's something that got passed down to me." David says
"Wow. You went from a law student to being business partners with your dad for a major publishing company!" Jessica smiles
"And you, you're a writer and photographer. When will you put a good story on my desk? Your photography book was great. But you graduated with a writing major! I bet you're very talented."
"I actually have been working on this novel. I don't think it's publishing worthy. I wrote article for NY mag as you know... but I write stories and stuff on my own. Your the first person I've actually ever told." She giggles shyly.
"I bet it is publish worthy. What's the name of it?"
"Left Behind." She smiles
"Hmm, sounds good. What's it about?"
"It's about a girl who left her family to follow her dreams. She left behind her grieving family, high school sweetheart, and painful memories."
"You need to send me pages!" He exclaims
"Maybe..." she smirks
"I think the waiters are waiting for us to leave so they can serve more people. Why don't we head out. Maybe I can take you back to my place for a while?"
"Okay." Jessica says
David and Jessica take a taxi back to his apartment just a block away from his office.
When Jessica got to his home she thought it would be a really nice apartment but it was a pent house that overlooked Times Square. She was so amazed with how beautiful his home was.
"Oh my gosh, and you thought my apartment was a great place?" Jessica says looking at the decorations, paintings, furniture, and architecture.
"Haha, there is something I want to show you." He reaches for her hand. Jessica looks at his hand for a moment then takes it. He takes her to a room off to the side. It was his office. Inside his office there were different awards, pictures, and books. What caught Jessica's eye was the painting easel in the corner.
"You paint?" She smiles
"Yea... I've never showed anyone this room. Since you told me about your novel, I thought I'd tell you about my paintings."
Jessica walks over to his paintings and looks at them. She was so amazed. He had painted buildings near him, the park, people, and other things that would catch someone's eye.
"David, these are amazing."
"Thanks... it's something I've kept to myself. But after spending the night with you I feel like you'd like these."
"I love artwork. I basically lived at the art museum during college." Jessica giggles
"I've always thought that maybe I should stop working in the publishing business with my dad and take on art, but I guess I don't have the balls to."
"You have quite the talent, David. These are all amazing. You know what would be so cool? If you painted one of my photographs from my trip."
"I'd love too."
"Oh my gosh, really?" She smiles
"Yeah!"
"That's a lot to ask. You must spend months of these pieces."
"More like a weekend. Once the paint brush is in my hand I can't put it down."
"That's how I feel with writing novels and photography. I guess it's my 'guilty pleasure'. Maybe? I'm not sure." Jessica giggles
"I'm glad you like them."
"I appreciate you showing me." Jessica turns to David. He walks closer to her and puts his hands on her arms.
Jessica put her hands on his cheeks. She closed her eyes then they began kissing. They stood in his studio kissing each other passionately.
Jessica then broke away from the kiss slowly.
"David... I had a great night."
"I did too. I hope we can do this again sometime."
"For sure. I already have something planned."
"Really?"
"Yes!"
Jessica and David watched a movie then he took her home.
When Jessica got home and laid in bed she couldn't fall asleep. She just kept thinking about the night she had with David and how amazing it was. It made her smile each time she thought about him or a funny joke that stuck in the back of her mind.
She had to tell Sarah everything, and she did. When she heard herself talk about David she thought that just maybe this was a man she'd like to spend more time with.
