CHAPTER ONE || BACK IN BEACON HILLS
She was back, Back in a town she'd been so excited to leave. it had been 8 years and she could barely remember the town she grew up in. Her last memory one of grief. Her last memory in Beacon Hills was what tore away a life she could've lived, a normal life. Yet now she was on a different path to the one her ten-year-old self had imagined. she needed to know what was wrong with her.
She'd been back a month, the month before school started for the next semester. She'd spent that month digging through old books, trying to reconnect with contacts she believed would know more about lycanthropy. but all she'd found were dead ends. Sighing she leaned her head back against the cold wall of the tattoo shop.
8:30 pm the small town of Beacon Hills settled into darkness as Aurora stood outside one of her many hangouts in Beacon Hills the tattoo shop. A place that to most was a beacon of creativity, yet to her, it remained a way of staying in control, Pain makes you human, Pain fuels humanity.
She could feel the tattoos second skin rubbing against her low-waisted Jeans on her hip, The discomfort fueling her sanity. taking a drag of a cigarette she had just lit, She turned watching through the glass window of the shop as Connor prepped the next client for a tattoo.
two boys, one seated in front of the big tattoo artist watching in awe as Connor lined the stencil up on his arm, The teen stood showing him what looked like tattoo ideas, the expression on his face almost the complete opposite to the boy with the crooked jaw who admired the start of his own tattoo.
Aurora's hearing focused as Connor the tattoo artist, asked the seated boy if he had a problem with needles, in response The boy with the crooked Jaw only shook his head responding with a quick: "No"
The other boy started speaking, verbally procrastinating over his fear of Needles, as Connor began prepping his tattoo machine. Aurora watched in disbelief as all the colour drained from the freckled boy's face before he fainted just watching the process begin.
chuckling to herself Aurora took another drag of her cigarette, finally recognising the boys the boys from middle school. shaking her head she assumed they went to the same high school she was starting at, With Isaac. She knew of the one with the crooked jaw everyone did, At least the people she'd spoken to in the month she'd been back. Scott McCall, his name had come up a few times while she'd been trying to find out more information on the supernatural world.
Yet she knew him for more than just his reputation with the Hales. She remembered him, the two dorks, Scott and his freckled friend whose name she couldn't quite remember. they were friends for a bit in elementary, She remembered the pair throwing sand around at recess. But she knew, they definitely wouldn't recognise her...
deciding to avoid the boys, Aurora flicked the butt of her cigarette into the dark abyss, opting to head straight home. She needed to prepare for school the following day. she needed to mentally prepare for the following school year... with her only friend being none other than Isaac Lahey, she knew it was going to be a lonely year.

"Violet! Scott got his tattoo" Stiles chuckled as he called his best friend, His laptop open and on Skype so he could see his best friend who'd just moved across the country to forks.
"how was it? did you pass out?" Violet laughed looking at stiles as she laid on her bed in her new room already missing the normalcy of Beacon hills.
"you really think that low of me?" Stiles' eyes narrowed as he placed a hand over his heart in mock hurt, Yet as Violet raised her brows in his response his expression fell as he nodded.
"maybe" He rolled his eyes a string of laughter escaping Violets Lips as she shook her head having known that would be his exact reaction to scott getting tattooed.
"How's Forks?" He asked trying to change the subject from his embarrassing reaction, Yet violet's response was only a harsh sigh.
"i hate it. It's boring. My cousin is heavily obsessed with some boy. Matteo is convinced there's something wrong with this town too, so i'd expect a phone call from him in the next few days" Violet blurted the issues she'd encountered in only the first day since she and her brother had moved across the country.
"Something wrong how?" Stiles asked his eyes narrowing as he stared at the computer screen waiting for more information on what'd gone on.
"Bella's boyfriend. He makes Matteo's senses feel off. Heart beat, smell all that stuff." Violet explained to her best friend just releasing her feelings on the matter.
"anything happens, You need to call me" Stiles warned a sense of dread instantly pooling in his stomach.
****
The next morning Aurora woke up fairly early considering she only had minimal sleep, the constant spiral of anxiety that swarmed within her stomach not allowing her to sleep any longer than a few Hours. She wanted to skate before school, Skating had become one of the only ways she could control her anxiety, or at least escape from it for a while.
Her stomach churned with first-day anxiety, Hoping the day would actually go her way for once, As she began getting ready the anxiety within her body only seemed to grow stronger despite how hard she tried to push it back into whatever dark corner of her soul it crawled out from.
Grabbing her skateboard she tucked it under her arm before leaving her house, mentally psyching herself up for the day as she threw her skateboard against the floor. The rough wheels needed a kicking start as she placed her foot down and began skating in hopes of soothing some of her anxieties.
Aurora had missed school quite a lot the year before, with everything in her life school wasn't her main priority: She'd ended up skipping way too much to even really be considered a student. she wasn't going to let that happen again, She came back for a reason. She had to find herself. And finish school. they were her priorities.
Walking into Beacon Hills High was different, it was completely different to the high school she was used to. something about it seemed off, Or at least to her. Just walking in she felt her senses amplify...A subtle sense of panic flooded her veins at the feeling. yet adjusting the earbud that blasted the neighbourhood into her ears drowned out the abundance of voices just enough for her to focus on getting to first period.
She walked through the corridors, prying eyes on her, following her through the apex of the school. Maybe she changed. No, she definitely changed. She wasn't sure if anyone had even recognised her from elementary and middle school, she'd hoped they wouldn't but she could never be sure. but something she was sure of, she didn't want to be known as the sad little girl who lost her parents.
It wasn't only her that had changed, everything had. Beacon Hills no longer felt like the same town she'd once lived in and spent her childhood exploring. With her recent experiences, it seemed darker, colder. But maybe that was just what the world had become and she was only noticing it as she got older.
Standing by her locker Aurora took a second to take in her surroundings, The music blasting through her ears, helping keep control of her anxieties as she noticed one of her old friends from elementary school; Lydia Martin. Talking to a Girl Aurora didn't recognise, Rory shook her head as she closed her locker wondering if she could go and start a conversation with the familiar redhead, yet she decided against it. She figured keeping to herself would be the best way to get through the school year.
Taking another look around the corridor she caught a glimpse of two boys walking in dressed in black. almost identical. Twins. A shiver shot through her spine as she locked eyes with one of the twins before they disappeared into a classroom. Something about the town seemed to be more unsettling than she could've ever imagined.
Slightly worried about the only person she was friends with Isaac Lahey. One of Rory's childhood friends turned werewolf, She hadn't heard from him. and with him being the only person in Beacon Hills she actually cared about filled her with unease, yet knowing he would message her when he could she pushed the feelings of dread to the side and carried on with her day.
Walking into Class she'd expected to end up sitting at the back where she could keep an eye on her phone waiting for Isaac's message. yet the only free seat left when she walked into class was the fourth row back behind one of the boys she'd seen at the tattoo shop now wearing a flannel shirt. Sighing Rory ran a hand through her hair as she walked across the classroom begrudgingly settling in that seat.
Scott the boy with the crooked jaw, Sat two seats in front of her as he made a fuss about the brunette that was with Lydia sitting in front of him. oh how she wished her problems started and ended with relationships. Interrupting Aurora's train of thought everyone's phone buzzed, signifying everyone received a message. Looking down at her phone she hoped for Isaac's name to pop up on her screen yet she couldn't have been more disappointed when she figured out who'd actually texted her.
As Everyone looked down at their phones, confused with the text they'd just been sent the teacher walked in, A tall brunette woman who wore a ghost of a smile read the text aloud:
"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of earth flowed somber under an overcast sky seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness"
"This is the last line to the first book we are going to read this semester... it is also the last text you will receive in this class" she explained with a smile, the clicking of her heels came to a stop and she leant against her desk at the front of the class, Her eyes scanning over the teenagers that filled the room.
"Phones off everyone" She ordered, her eyes lingering on Rory for a second longer than needed, as the young Girl Glanced back down to her phone. Of course that wasn't something Aurora was going to do. She ignored that comment as everyone turned their phones off. She needed her phone on, She needed to make sure Isaac was okay, and if that meant getting detention on the first day. well so be it.
The English lesson consisted of vast explanations of the book the class had been ordered to start reading, along with intense plans for the semester ahead. Yet for Rory, the class was spent purely in the prison of her own mind, fighting each nauseating thought one by one as they spiralled through her mind distracting her from whatever nonsense the new teacher was rambling about.
Every few minutes Aurora made sure to check her phone, Ensuring Isaac hadn't reached out for help while she'd been battling her thoughts, and the boredom of English. Just as the teen looked down at her phone for what felt like the hundredth time she caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of Aurora's eye. Noticing the brunette who still remained nameless to Aurora pass a note back to Scott.
Minding her own business Aurora pulled her focus back to the class, only for the same violent thoughts to fill her mind. Shaking her head she tried controlling the dread that had begun pooling within her stomach when a knock at the door once again distracted her. Looking up from her desk she saw the principal standing by the door, the man's eyes focused on none other than Scott McCall.
"I need Scott for a moment" The principal scoffed pulling the newly tattooed teenager from Class, Rory watched as Scott rose a browgetting up from his seat quickly disappearing from the class. Unable to control her own Anxiety Rory focused her hearing in an attempt to figure out why Scott had been pulled from class, but it didn't work. Her hearing was still too weak...
Rory tried refocusing her energy on the sheet of paper she'd previously been handed yet a loud Bang startled her, Catching her attention her focus shot toward the sound. a bird had flown straight into the window, initially it didn't seem too strange. Yet Rory was flooded with a familiar sense of dread. But it wasn't just dread. She could feel its fear. The birds fear...
Her brows furrowed as she stared at the window, almost everyone in the class following her actions, Then one by one birds started flying towards the window. one after another they started doing the same as the first.=, The window cracked with each bird that threw themselves into the window. The fear and dread that flooded Aurora's body amplified with almost every bird. Her heart thumped so violently against her chest with fear, her own heart muffling the smash of the window as it shattered from the force.
all hell broke loose. everyone diving under the tables. Screams. Pained shrieks left the birds' beaks as they flooded into the classroom. the boy who sat In front of her dove on top of Lydia to protect her. Aurora dove under her table, Not escaping the thud of a bird against her temple causing a sharp pain to echo through her skull. "fuck shit" She huffed her lungs heaving for oxygen.
The loud screams of the students only fueled the pain that consumed Rory's skull, Her hands clasped her ears trying to control what felt like nails piercing her eardrums. Then it fell silent. The bird's frantic flying came to a halt... They'd all killed themselves, Violently flying into walls, Every single bird was Dead. lowering her hands from her ear Rory and the rest of the students emerged from beneath the tables.
She had to get out of that classroom, Aurora couldn't cope with it. Blood, Dead animals, the panic, she could still feel their fear, the birds paralysing fear. Everyone getting checked for wounds some being sent home, parents and the sheriff being brought in. due to the experience. it was a blur, it all happened so quickly... she could barely piece it together.
Sitting on the desk that once had her work laid across it, said work now halfway across the room. she couldn't fathom why the birds were so scared, Her mind raced with possibility yet none seemed plausible.
So consumed by her own thoughts she hadn't noticed The boys who'd previously been sat in front of Aurora came to ask if she was okay, Scottand his freckled friend now stood in front of the girl catching her attention, with what only could be described as looks of suspicion etched over their faces.
"Hey, you okay? That was intense, you reacted faster than anyone else?" The freckled boy asked The look on his face more accusing than Scotts, Aurora's brows furrowed as she attempted to remember his name, yet nothing came to mind apart from the Letter 'S'.
"I'm good thanks, Simon, Guess you could say have fast reflexes" Aurora shrugged off his accusing tone, The only name she could think of rolling off her tongue, yet from purely just the disgusted change in his expression she could tell that wasn't his name.
"Simon? It's stiles" he countered, A look of disbelief now etched across his face as his eyes darted toward Scott as if to say 'can you believe this' Yet in response to his look, his best friend only shook his head not in the mood for jokes due to the current situation.
"Right yeah, Stiles. Who the hell names their kid Stiles?!" Aurora scoffed, her tone a lot ruder than she'd originally intended, yet her words stood. What the fuck type of name was that? she'd never heard it before, and much to Stiles' dismay he was offended.
"Who names their kid after a Disney princess" Stiles scoffed sarcastically, His hands swaying in the air as he counted Rory's words, what should've been a wholesome conversation between students checking on each other turning into a battle of who's name was worse.
**
Aurora had a Weird feeling about Stiles, he was suspicious of her. Like he knew something, but maybe she was just overthinking it. yet after the things she'd heard about Scott she wasn't too sure, Maybe they had something to do with the birds. she definitely knew they were hiding something.
After class, Aurora watched a very peculiar interaction between Lydia and the girl she found out whose name was Allison and, someone who was familiar to Aurora. Brayden. Brayden? Rory's heart skipped a beat as she watched Brayden rush off after speaking to the other two girls.
"Brayden! What the hell are you doing back in Beacon Hills?!" Aurora exclaimed as she followed her down the corridor away from the previous two girls. Worry flooded Rory's stomach due to the unfamiliar behaviour Brayden was showing.
"Aurora!" The two females hugged As Brayden caught sight of the familiar teen, her chest filling with relief knowing Rory was safe, Breaking the hug Brayden's hands remained firmly placed on Rory's shoulders as she asked a painful question.
"Do you know Scott McCall?" Brayden asked, a sense of urgency visible in the woman's eyes as Aurora stared at her blankly, confusion swarming her mind, Rory nodded unsure of where the conversation was leading.
"Yeah- yeah kinda he was in my last class" Aurora replied, her brows knitting together the urgency in Brayden's eyes growing stronger as she listened to auroras answer, Brayden shook her head her words not escaping fast enough.
"Stay away from him, go home. Go home and stay home. I will try and call you later. It's important you listen to me" Brayden stated sternly, a subtle panic laced her voice only making Aurora's face contort with disbelief before Brayden attempted to walk away with a limp. leaving Aurora more confused than she was before. What the hell is wrong with this town?
Brayden vanished as Aurora walked back to her locker to put the book she needed for English inside, knowing she'd never actually get around to reading it. the young girl's mind filled with Brayden's words and the events of her first day at Beacon Hills High. The only thing she knew for sure, was Beacon Hills was not safe.
Aurora was about to leave school to go back home, Maybe she was right to be anxious about starting, or maybe she just shouldn't have... She sighed reliving the day's events in her mind. The girl tucked one of her earbuds into her ear, and just as she was about to drown out the world ultimately she heard fighting. A roar...
Aurora's heart dropped, Adrenaline instantly peaking. Brayden. Quickly turning on her heel, she ran. ran to where the sound was coming from. the boy's locker room. her heart pounded so violently against her chest, Her skateboard tucked under her arm as she rushed into the locker room.
When she opened the door the sight confused her more than anything: she was met with a tall bald guy pinning Brayden against one of the lockers. his razor-sharp claws visible. his drool-covered fangs protruding from his mouth. Her heart instantly raced with adrenaline. the violent pounded of her heart drowning out her own thoughts.
Taking the skateboard she had in one hand Aurora lunged forward smashing it against the man's head. Her board shattered as it connected with his head, her brute strength causing chips of her shattered board to be flung across the room. The hit Caused the alpha to lose his balance. As he steadied himself Aurora Backed up flashing her golden eyes, flecks of green reflecting in her iris.
in seconds huge fight began. one of the twins Lunged towards Aurora and a woman towards Brayden. Both their eyes shone a bright firey red flooding Rory's stomach with panic. when A estranged Roar escaped Rory's lips she changed. canine teeth growing from her gums. her nails turning to sharp claws. Aiden rushed forward, his claws flying toward Aurora's stomach. She swung her arm Slashing his jaw with her claws. Yet the second twin then lunged forward. Slashing the flesh of Rory's midsection with his Claws. Black dots flooded her vision. Pain pulsed through her veins.
the multiple werewolves with red eyes easily overpowered Both Aurora and Brayden. Leaving them both injured in what could only have been seconds. Slashes of claws covering their bodies. Pain consumed Rory's body as she felt the warm blood dripping from her side. With the last of her energy, she lunged toward the Twins once again only for the pair to throw her harshly into the lockers knocking all the wind from her lungs...
trying to recover from her wounds. her lungs heaving for oxygen Aurora looked up realising all of those werewolves were alphas. every single one of them... most of them going to stand behind one, older man with a walking stick. Her head pulsated with pain as she tried to fathom what was happening yet she couldn't. a pack of alphas? it didn't make sense.
she focused on the man in front. All the other alphas cowering behind him. He held The stick in his right hand and with the left put sunglasses on his face. He then used what Aurora thought was a walking stick then realised was a tool for a blind man, to walk towards both Aurora and Brayden. He crouched down to be level with them, His voice Cold, The sound sending a violent shiver down Rory's spine "Beautiful but defiant"
Rory couldn't move, The pain that travelled through her body almost paralysing as she watched an interaction between him and Brayden... Then nausea took over... he used his claws and hit Brayden. Slashing her face and neck with his razor-sharp claws. her blood splattered across Aurora before he left, leaving them alone blood pouring from them both as the whole pack walked away.
"What the fuck" Aurora huffed as she passed out, losing herself in pain and darkness yet again.
