Chapter 4
Training- Day 2
(Sky's POV)
I woke up the next morning, my entire body hurting. Ty's performance had impressed everyone, even me, and had ended with me being flipping onto my back and being sat on. My muscles all still throbbed from the experience.
I climbed out of bed, and began getting dressed. I slipped on my shirt, and was about to step into my pants when Ty came crashing in. I jumped.
"God Ty! What's got you all frantic this morning?" I asked, putting on the rest of my clothes.
"I just heard that the council has decided to cut our training time. Now instead of a week's worth, we get tomorrow and then we enter the game!" He said, breathing heavily. I swore.
"But most of us aren't ready yet! Why would they decide to do that?" I asked, and Ty shrugged.
"Come on! We need to get to training stat!" He said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me behind him to the training room. When we arrived, a large group of other competitors had already arranged themselves around one of the council members. Going on my tip toes, I was just about able to make out a pink and purple bun.
"Everyone please! Settle down!" Tiffany snapped, and the room went silent. Fixing her shirt, she spoke in a calm tone.
"Now, I'm sure many of you are curious as to why we have cut training so short. Well, that is because our viewers are just too excited to wait a week. And since we must follow what the people want, we must cut the training short. You all will enter the arena early tomorrow morning. Today is your last day of training, so train hard. You all may work amongst yourselves today. May Notch have mercy." Tiffany finished. She looked at everyone once more, and then left the room. Everyone instantly bolted to different machines. I looked at Ty.
"Well, what are we going to do?" I asked. Ty looked at me, his brown hair swaying across the left part of his face.
"Come on." He said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me into a dark hallway.
"Dude, what are we doing?" I whispered. He put his hand over my mouth. I grabbed his wrist and pulled his hand away.
"Dude what the heck! We need to train! We're gonna die if we don't!" I whisper-shouted. He shushed me.
"Listen, I've watched a lot of those people out there while they have trained. My idea for the games is that we play like we're weak." I scoffed.
"Ty? I don't know if you have a screw loose, but that performance from yesterday would say otherwise. How can you pretend that you suddenly lost all that power?" I asked, and he swore.
"Your right, I forgot about that. Then how about this: we play like we're not teammates for a while." He offered.
"Don't you want me to live?" I asked worriedly. He nodded.
"Look, I'll go join some other team, and I'll tell them that you told me where you would be camping, and we can lure them there. We can set some traps and kill them off." He offered. I sighed angrily.
"Ok, say we go through with this plan. We've seemed pretty team-y, so how are we going to convince all those people out there that we aren't?" I asked. Ty thought for a moment, and then grinned, an idea clearly coming to him.
"What's with the creepy grin Ty?" I questioned, becoming a little uncomfortable.
"Easy, let's fight."
(Ty's POV)
"Easy, we pretend to get an argument and we fight. You hit me a few times, I hit you a few times, we say some bad names, and then go our separate ways. It's simple really." I told Sky, searching his face for any signs of confidence in my plan. I frowned when he didn't respond right away.
"Do you not trust my plan?" I asked him. He shrugged.
"I guess we don't have to." I said, suddenly hiding my face and losing eye contact with him.
"No, no! Now that I think about it, that might actually be a good idea. I say we do it. Anyways, I still wanna beat you up since you beat me up last time." He said, a small snicker escaping through his lips.
I smiled sheepishly. "Great, well, we might as well begin our performance." I said, and Sky nodded.
"But wait, what are we going to be fighting about anyways?" He asked me. I shrugged.
"Yell something about me trash talking you or somethin, heck you could say I stole your chips and it would work. Remember Sky, we're dudes. We get physical about anything." I said, Sky laughed. I slapped him, not hard enough to really hurt, but enough to get it started.
"Hey Sky, here's an alert for your stupid brain: I know how much you need me to stay alive in these games, so I'm the one in charge of this team!" I blurt out, trying to sound as snarky as I could.
Sky scoffed. "You really think I expect a small toad like you to protect me? You'd be lucky to not get squashed by a beetle."
"Well you better watch your mouth, don't forget that beating I gave you yesterday!" I yelled, cracking my knuckles. Turning my head, I saw a few of the delegates beginning to come down the hallway to see what the commotion was all about. That's when I lifted my arm and punched Sky in the gut.
Sorry Sky, that's gonna hurt. Sky groaned, but quickly got back into a defensive position and swung his large fist at me. Being the great actor I am, I allowed him to punch me in the jaw. I was actually knocked silly for a second, surprised about the power in his hand. He punched me again, and before I knew it I was on the ground. Sky towered over me, casting a long shadow over my body. He grabbed the collar of my shirt, and winked at me. Smirking, I punched him back in the nose, and he left go of my shirt. My head the ground and I groaned. I pulled my hand up to my head and realized I had cut my head. Growling, I lunged at Sky, who willingly feel to the ground and let me get on top of him. I punched him a few times, and he hollered. By now, all of the others were watching us brawl, and I could hear the sounds of officials coming. The officials busted through the crowd and yanked me off of Sky, nearly throwing my shoulders out in the process.
"What the heck is wrong with you?!" Adam yelled as he sat up off the floor. I growled at him.
"Your an idiot if you think I'm going to team up with some sort of brat like you!" I hollered back. By now the officials were carrying me out the door and off to the infirmary to take care of my head. Now that I thought about my head, I was starting to feel a little dizzy, probably from the blood loss. They put me on a stretcher, and wheeled me into a small examination room. A doctor soon appeared, and looked at my head.
"Well Tyler, your very lucky that the cut on your head isn't serious. Luckily we have a pill that can heal that cut right up." The doctor said, handing me a large blue pill and a glass of water.
"Well, take it." The doctor ordered, and I quickly washed it down. "Now go lay down for a little while. You need to be well rested for tomorrow's games." The doctor said, checking the wound last time. "Before you go though, I'd like you to bandage that cut as well." He said, looking at a nurse nearby. She nodded, and began pulling out some supplies.
After getting my head fixed, I walked to back to my room. Opening the door, I jumped when I saw Sky sitting on the couch.
"Sky! What are you doing?! There are security cameras all over this room! We can't be seen together until after the games start!" I whisper-shouted. He smirked.
"Don't worry, I punched them all out. No one can see or hear us in here." I sighed with relief. Pushing the door closed, I crashed in a nearby chair.
"I'll tell you what Man, you can really sac a punch." I said, tenderly feeling my cut on my head. Adam smiled.
"Yeah, sorry about that, I didn't mean to ACTUALLY hurt you." Sky apologized, but I just waved him off.
"All for the better man. I think we were pretty convincing." I said, and Sky nodded.
"So where are we planning to regroup once we get into the game?" Sky asked, and I shrugged.
"We have no idea what the map will look like or what challenges we'll face in there. We have to be careful. The best thing to do is just meet up by chance." I said, and Sky nodded.
"Alright, makes enough sense." He said as he stood up.
"Where are you off too?" I asked curiously.
"Well, I need to go find some new "partners" don't I?" Sky said, smiling. I giggled.
"Yeah, I suppose your right." He smiled back at me, and I waved bye. Right before he closed the the door though, I was barely able to mumble out the words May Notch have Mercy.
