Chapter 12 - Nostalgia
The energy in the lot shifted the second the words left Hunter's mouth.
"Alright, Calloway. You wanna race? You got one."
And just like that, the whole scene exploded. People turned. Heads snapped in their direction. Voices whispered, then grew louder.
"She's racing? Against Hunter?"
"Hell, I thought she quit after Jamie."
"This is gonna be insane."
Dax stood beside her, arms crossed, watching the scene unfold.
Jinx was grinning like he had been waiting for this all night, and Rev just sighed, muttering something about how this trip was already getting out of control.
Ghost didn't say a word.
But Erin caught the slightest flicker of amusement in his eyes.
Ethan, standing a few feet away, laughed under his breath, shaking his head. "You've been back in the country for what, an hour? And you're already throwing down a race?"
Erin tilted her head, smirking. "You act like you're surprised."
Ethan's grin widened. "I'm not. Which is why I'm stepping in too."
Hunter raised a brow. "So now it's a three-way?"
Jinx snorted. "Pause."
Rev nudged him, muttering, "Not the time, bro."
Hunter ignored them, arms crossed. "Alright, fine. Three drivers, one run. No second chances. Fastest one to the end of the stretch takes it."
Erin nodded, thinking. Her initial thought was to ask Ethan to borrow his Evo but now he wanted in too meant she needed to find another ride. She sighed. "Figured." She turned, scanning the crowd, searching. She spotted it.
Sitting near the edge of the lot, partially tucked between two larger builds, was a clean, deep purple Honda S2000: low stance, aggressive fitment, aftermarket wide-body kit, subtle track-ready modifications. A solid mix of power and control.
Standing next to it was a woman about Dax's age, arms crossed, eyes locked onto Erin like she had already figured out what was about to happen.
Erin strode over, confidence in every step. "Love the S2K. That a Spoon-built setup?"
The woman tilted her head, impressed. "Yeah. Full Spoon conversion. Tuned for road and track."
Erin smirked. "You race?"
The woman chuckled. "When I feel like it. But tonight? I'd rather watch."
Erin glanced back at the crowd forming, the buzz getting louder. "Then how about letting me take your wheels for a spin?"
The woman raised a brow, studying Erin carefully. Then, slowly, her smirk grew. "Ace Calloway, right? Jamie's sister?"
Erin nodded, affirming.
The woman laughed under her breath, shaking her head. "I've heard stories about you. Tell you what, you break it, you buy it. But if you win? I'll let you take it out again sometime."
Erin grinned. "Deal."
The woman tossed her the keys.
And just like that, Erin had her car.
Dax exhaled sharply, crossing his arms as she walked back over. "I swear, you could charm your way into stealing anything, couldn't you?"
Erin smirked. "I prefer 'borrowing'."
Jinx laughed. "Yeah, we'll see how 'borrowed' it is if you wreck it."
Rev shook his head. "I can't believe you're doing this."
Hunter and Ethan had already made their way to their cars, getting prepped, making last-minute checks.
Ghost just watched, like he was waiting for something else to happen.
Erin slid into the driver's seat of the S2000, hands gripping the aftermarket wheel, foot tapping the clutch lightly.
It had been a long time since she'd lined up like this. As the engine roared to life, the adrenaline kicked in. And for the first time since she landed back in the UK, she felt like herself again. Ace Calloway was back. And she was about to remind everyone exactly who the hell she was.
