"Daily roll; Carlos?"
"Here."
"Darla?"
"Present,"
"Ruth?"
"Yup!"
"Ruth."
"Oh, sorry. Here."
"Yuki?"
"Hear."
"Ben?"
"Ben? Where is Ben?"
"I think he's still in his tent."
"Goddamn it Ben, you've been here one now, and you need to stop fucking things up." I stomped over to the lazy ass holes tent, and threw open the zipper. There he was, all wrapped up like the turd he is.
"BEN!!!" I shouted, and kicked the lump in the mess of sleeping bags.
"Jesus! What? What did I do?"
"What didn't you do?!!" My voice was as hot as fire.
"I, oh shit, its roll call isn't it?"
"Ben, I'm really beginning to wonder if you really want to be in this group or not." I said, looking him dead in his stupid brown eyes.
"No! I do, I do! Please give me another chance Sean! You don't understand how hard it is living in the zombie apocalypse!"
"Oh no, I guess I don't understand. I guess I don't understand having to lead a group through all this maddnes. I guess I don't understand what it's like having to scrounge day in, and day out for food, and supplies for people who cant follow one simple fucking rule. Don't be late for roll call. Get up." I said once more, kicking his leg, then walked out of the stench filled tent.
"Hey Sean, Maybe you should, be a little easier on Ben, I mean, he's only eighteen!" Darla said, with her blue eyes avoiding mine.
"Ruth is seven and she's here every single day, on time, every single time. When Carlos got sick he still reported everysingle day, every single time ten minuets early. Yuki was shot yesterday, and look, shes still here! I think the kid can get his ass out of his sack, and pull himself to four roll calls!"
"He's immature! He doesn't know these things! You cant be like this Sean!"
"I KNOW THE DAMN KID IS IMMATURE!!! That's exactially what we don't need in this group! Immaturity! And yes I can be like this, because who makes this group survive?"
"*Sigh* You."
"So who makes the rules?"
"You, but it-"
"No,, I make the rules. I have only a few of them. My main one, is don't be late for roll call!!! I really don't think it was that hard to follow! For fucks sake!" I was getting really pissed off, BUT COME ON!!
I stomped over to the dinner table, we had made, a while back. I tried putting a little weight at it, but it nearly crumbled under me. I felt my blood slightly boil, when I had to re-write "Fix table" Onto the to do list.
"Sean, I'm sorry." Ben came up to me, slopply dressed, and slightly out of breath.
"What are you going to do to show me that you're actually sorry instead of just saying it?" I asked, looking him dead in the eye again. I have a tendency to do that with this dumbass. Kid doesn't know his place, and we're here to teach it to him.
"Um,, I'll fix the table?"
"Are you asking, or telling me?"
"Ill fix the table."
"Good. I'm expecting it done by three today. Don't disappoint me Ben." I said, then walked over to our supply cupboard. I looked around. We're going to need a lot more food/bullets/ blankets. A lot freaking more. I'll have to go scavenging around again. I normally always do, but ill have to stay out longer.
I walked over to Yuki's tent, were she was sent on bed rest until she was healed. Yuki is our doctor. She's Japanese, and her family was very traditional, so we have a lot of problems, we know how to fix. The way our camp knocks, since we all only have tents. We shake the main support of the tent three times, so I did.
"Oh, come in." She sounded weak. I unzipped the tent, and took a step in. She was laying down, with a make shift pillow under her good side. She got shot in her right side by a group of raiders, the reason our table is broken.
"Hey Yuki. How are you feeling?" I asked, sitting down Native American style, and looking into her soft grey eyes.
"Oh, Ill pull through. No need for worrying about me." She had on a really weak smile.
"You are a vital essence to this place, of course I'm going to worry about you. I want you to feel alright. Is there anything I can get you?" I asked, trying not to blush.
She smiled. "That is very sweet Sean. But there are more important things to worry about."
"Yuki, you don't understand. You keep me sain here! I want to make sure you're going to be healthy. Do you want some extra breakfast? Some tea? Anything?" I asked, realizing how dumb I sound right now.
"Well, some tea would be nice, but if were low, its perfectly fine!" She smiled, while I stood up.
"Tea it is." I smiled, then walked out of her tent. There is no way in hell that I have a crush or something dumb like that on Yuki, she's nearly thirty years older than I am, the only reason I'm nicer to her, is because she is our doctor, and the only one who really cares about us. And goes out her of her way to make sure we're alright. She would be the leader if she wasn't so frail, and nice. I walked over to the boiling kettle Darla put on. I looked over to the cupboard, and pulled out one of our sparse tea bags, that we only use when people are sick. I looked over, and saw Carlos and Ruth drawing. Ruth is his little girl. She's so cute.
I grabbed her favorite flavor, lemon, unsweetened, then grabbed a crumpled tin can we use for cups. Around here, nothing gets wasted.
"Hey Sean, you wanting any breakfast?" Darla asked sweetly. I looked over into her bright green eyes, then back to the tea.
"Um, well what is it today?" I asked, trying to make the tea right for her.
"Its banana oatmeal!" She smiled, ladling the thick soupy food into a chipped bowl.
"Um, yeah actually! That looks great. Thank you." I smiled. I looked over, and saw her green eyes light up. I don't really like Oatmeal, but I know Darla spent a lot of time on it, and last time I didn't take any. I took the boiling tea off of the kettle, and started walking over to Yuki's tent.
"SEAN!! WALKERS!"
