💖Chapter 34💖
Chapter 34
"Oh my God!" Lady Adebimpe gasped. Her eyes ran through her white gown the were not soaked in water. The stink from the melon water filled her nose, the odour emitting from it was like ones of those from roadside gutter.
She turned towards Gbenga then she screamed, "Can't you do something" "Ah Madam! Kini ki n se? (What do you want me to do?)" He turned towards Mama Orji who hissed at him, "You've just declared war" Lady Adebimpe announced. "Let there be war, I'm prepared to fight it any day. Make una wait here oh, make una continue to wait, let me go and bring another surprise package" Mama Orji said replied leaving. Dera looked up at Charlotte who leaned on the who saw the whole thing happen.
"Una still dey stand?" Rasaki asked and Lady Adebimpe quickly ran into the car with Gbenga who drove off speedily.
Mama Orji came out afterwards climbing down the stairs with nothing in her hands then she hissed again, "Them for wait now!"
"Mom just turned this into a patience uzorkwo movie" Dera muttered rolling her eyes. "I no even understand this kain family sef? Na only una pikin dey? Which kain life?"
"Mama, the woman you're fighting with has gone now" Dera complained. "Kpuchie onu! (Shut your mouth) What do you know?"
"Pouring that water on her was a bit over board na, don't you think?"
"Didn't you hear what she was saying?"
"My point is, Sister Fortunate is dating her son and if they want to do it like Aunty Nike and Brother Makin's wedding, that woman you've just poured water on will definitely be our in-law"
"It's only me that understand why I poured the water. Let them bring war, bring it! They'll understand what it means for there to be fire on the mountain without fuel or paper. Nonsense!" She squeezed her lips then returned back to the melon seed.
Mrs Akintoye walked into Debo's room to find him seated in front of his computer intently focused on the game in front of him. "Good morning Mom" he moved his shoulder in the direction of the game without glancing at his mother. "Good morning dear" she replied.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes"
"Okay...." She walked away then she went back in. "Can we talk?" "Mom not now"
"Now. I need us to talk now, like now. It's necessary"
"I'm kind of busy"
"Adebowale Ayoola Stephen Akintoye, we need to talk now!"
"Jesus! I haven't heard you call my full name in a very long time." His heart jumped in fear then he dropped the game pads. "Am I in trouble? What did I do wrong?"
"Nothing. I just want to talk, will it kill you to listen?"
"You don't always talk to us, infact we haven't had breakfast, lunch or dinner where we talk in a very long time"
"Because you guys don't listen to me. E kin gboran! You guys treat me like trash but I don't blame you for it, your father also treats me like trash too"
"You're not trash Mom," Debo rose up, "I'm sorry. Is this about what happened yesterday? The fact that I invited Dera over, nothing happened okay? If you didn't agree with her coming over, you could have said something when I mentioned it to you"
"Like I said to Durojaiye and Dehinde but it didn't stop them from bringing their chicks in. I guess over the years, you complain so much that you get tired of it" She sat on the bed and Debo joined her too then he sighed.
"I'm sorry for bringing Dera over"
"What are your intentions for her?"
"Definitely not to have sex with her or break her heart. Don't get me wrong, I find her attractive, address sweet and funny, but I don't see her as that kind of girl. For me, she's wife material"
"You're just twenty two years. You can't be thinking of marriage, career first"
"Sure. You're not trash, I hope you know that right? I don't know why you're still hanging with that man" he started referring to his father.
"The same reason you guys still carry the name Akintoye." "And what's that reason?" Debo asked and his mother shrugged. "I have no idea, it just came out of my mouth that way" she laughed and he laughed too. "Giving advice and speeches has never been my strong side so..." She added.
"I ask myself that question everyday. I guess I don't want to raise my children under a broken home."
Mrs Akintoye gave a faint smile. "We should talk more often. Talk about our fears, talk about school. Your dreams"
"Yeah we should"
"I just had an idea, get dressed, we're going out"
"To do what?"
"Would it kill you to obey before asking questions?"
Fortunate roamed around the Tricycle dealing company in order to make Keke purchases after checking it's technical qualities and capacities. It ended up being a window shopping trip. After a meeting with the manager in charge, she received a call from Charlotte.
"Hey"
"There was a little problem at home" "What problem?"
"Mide's mom came by and there was a big argument and your mom and her eventually poured water on her body" "Tell me it's not the one she used in washing the melon"
"It was really messy and funny too but...." She paused, letting out a small laughter "I felt bad for her, this isn't going to be easy"
"It's not. Where are you? I could use your company"
"Ish... I'm on my way to see Mide. I already called him"
After Gbenga drove Lady Adebimpe in, she got out of the car, angrily banging the door. "Good afternoon Ma" Both Wosi and Bisi greeted quite surprised to see her drenched in water. They cringed their noses at the horrible odor that came from her body. They stared at the misplaced melon seeds on her clothe.
"Madam, what happened?" Bisi asked, "Shhh!" She snapped walking past them. Bisi chuckled softly and Wosi looked at her. "Make she catch you"
"Abeg! Make i hear word" she turned towards Gbenga. "Wetin happen now?"
"I no fit talk oh"
"Oya, I go prepare your food as you like am, two meat inside" "Four, take am or leave am"
"Which kain useless negotiatio be that? Two meat, one fish, take am or leave am"
"Leave am"
Bisi hissed leaving then he called her back. "Now you are talking"
"Wetin happen?"
"Tí o ba ni ore-ọfẹ lati ri ija tó ṣẹlẹ láàrin ìyá ọrẹbinrin Prince Mide àti oga wa,wa ba sun ẹkun.(If you were opportuned to witness he war the war between Prince Mide new girlfriend's mother and our Madam, you'll weep for her)"
"How are you going to fix this?" Charlotte asked Mide at the gym, "Fix what? Mom's hatred for Fortunate? I can't. Mom will clearly not forgive Fortunate's mom for pouring that water on her"
"We have to sort this out as soon as possible before it gets out of hand but the question is, how? Orji's mom is not the villain, she tried to be nice from the start but your Mom didn't even give her the chance. She doesn't like being taken for granted, Orji's mom reciprocates whatever you dish on her. If she's trying to be nice, you try to be nice too. That's the lesson I've learnt, now the gauntlet has been dropped and Mama Orji already picked it up. There might be no going back from this unless by some Miracle. Or an apology from your mother"
"Good luck getting that" Mide replied and she chuckled. "This is going to be very difficult"
"Yeah. I guess, everyone's facing one opposition or the other. What about the issue with your Mom?" He asked her and she shrugged.
"I haven't been picking up her calls?"
"Did I mention that I gave her the address to find you?"
Charlotte glared at him, "Tell me you didn't" "I just told you that I did. Women can be so dramatic" "Great! She's probably on her way here already. When was this? Why didn't you tell me? Urgh!" She grunted.
"I didn't even want her to know."
"She demanded for it, she was quite forceful"
"You could have just said no, she wouldn't have strangled you from the phone" "You can't do this without her"
"I can! Actually I can, I'm an American, I don't hold parental blessings dear. If she doesn't agree with me being in love with a Nigerian, I don't care. As long as I'm happy, with Orji and my many children"
"She's still your mother"
"She's only going to cause more drama, and I really don't want her having a clash with Orji's Mom. There's enough clash already. She's going to freak out even more when she finds out I might be pregnant" she answered and Mide arced his brow in surprise.
"That quick?"
"It was my request, although I didn't think it will be this quick sha. I haven't had a proper test yet. I was supposed to but ..."
Mide laughed, "How many Ibo can you speak already?" "He asked and she laughed, "Let me teach you a few" "That was a rhetorical question"
"You're going to listen anyway. You have no choice"
Fortunate paid a visit to Foluke in her office. "Hello Miracle" she smiled and Fortunate chuckled faintly. "What's making this one's face look like this?"
"As if you don't know already?"
Fortunate pouted her lips then she took a seat opposite Foluke.
"Babe, let me bust your bubble a bit, I don't have any clue whatsoever?"
"I thought Mide must have given Jimmy the gist"
"My husband is going through a lot as it now. Gossiping is the last thing on his mind" "I hope all is well"
"His boss is trying to have him fired but I believe it'll be fine so you better start giving me gist. The only thing I'm aware of is you guys extra vacation at the lodge" she chipped in and Fortunate busted into laughter.
"When someone will not want to laugh, you guys have this way if just making someone laugh"
"How was it?"
"It was amazing. I didn't want it to end but I had to wake up to the reality that my boyfriend's mother still hates me and my mom hates her too. I'm frustrated as it is right now."
"I've known Lady Adebimpe for a while, she's this classy person and all but she's not bad. You two must have gotten off on a wrong foot but you can strengthen your relationship"
"How? Any past question I can glance at?"
"If you ask me, na who I go ask? You're the motivational speaker, think of a way"
"You nko?" Fortunate snapped playfully and they both laughed about it. "How's FM cycle coming up?"
"I already checked out a Keke dealing company, I'll make purchases as soon I have a spot to use as my office, a lot of things are taking my attention. If I want to put full effort in this, I won't even have time to look at anyone's face, even Mide's face, just like I did in Lagos. The truth is that I can't really concentrate. If I'm not thinking about Mide, I'll be thinking about other things, my future mother In law is trying to make life difficult for me. My head wants to explode like this!"
Mrs Akintoye pulled over by a street with Debo behind the car. "Mom where are we going to?" Debo asked for the nth time. "It's not our regular street"
"I hope I got the address right" she muttered to herself. "Where?" "Don't be so impatient dear. Wait a minute" She got out of the car meeting a young girl. "Hello dear, Mo n wa alabirin kan to n pe ni Mama Orji (I'm looking for a woman, Mama Orji)"
"Ki lo tun sele? (What has happened again?)" She asked and Mrs Akintoye raised her brow in shock, "Ko ye mi (I don't understand)"
"Se kii se pe o wa ba Mama Orji fa wàhálà bi obinrin yẹn?(I hope you're not here to find Mama Orji's trouble like that woman?). Result yen ma bloody gan! (The results will be bloody)"
"Èmi o wa ba ẹnìkankan fa wàhálà (I'm not here to find anyone's trouble"
"Better oh. If you dey find Mama Orji house, just waka straight, na their house close the street, na white House, although paint don peel finish but just go straight"
"Thank you" she appreciated entering into the car. "Where are we going to?"
"I found a good direction" she smiled driving off and Debo resumed pressing his phone. "I hope we don't get lost" "If the girl's direction is right, we'll soon be there"
They finally got to the house, Debo shut his eyes on seeing Mama Orji. "Jesus Mommy!" He gasped. "Are you serious?"
"Now you can't turn back" she got out of the car. "You can't force me to get out of the car either"
"Suit yourself" she smiled walking towards Mama Orji who was drying crayfish on the top of her husband's car. "If this rain fit just pity me, make this crayfish dry" she muttered to herself then she noticed Mrs Akintoye coming then she frowned.
"I hope you're not bringing trouble my way oh cause I'm ready to give it back"
Mrs Akintoye raised her hands in surrender, "I pity the person that must have made you angry? What happened, a young lady said that a while ago when I asked her for directions to your place. I didn't even understand what she was saying, what happened"
"Is it not Ayomide's mother? Just because my daughter and his son have now become acquainted, she came to bribe us, and as if that wasn't enough, she called my daughter a prostitute."
"Bimpe shouldn't have done that"
"She did and I did what I could do best at that moment. I poured water on her"
Mrs Akintoye laughed, "You showed her the Orji, In Mama Orji" she replied and Mama Orji laughed. "My husband is even angry at me as it is but I don't care. Next time, she won't try that rubbish again"
"Poor Bimpe. Well, I didn't come to discuss her matter, rather I came specifically for.." she sighted Dera coming towards her, still dressed in a torn black top and the faded red shorts.
"Her actually"
"You want to also warn her too shey?"
"No. I'm not against their relationship," "Good afternoon Ma" Dera greeted then she bowed her head in shame because of her dressing.
"Good afternoon dear" Mrs Akintoye replied and Dera bent down to spread the melon seed on a mat.
"What a hard working girl" " Don't let her fool you oh"
"I came with my son oh, I thought we could talk about their relationship"
"Where is he?" Mama Orji asked and Mrs Akintoye pointed to the car. While Debo pressed his phone, he heard a knock on the windshield. His gaze met with Mama Orji's gaze and his heart began to race in fear.
"Come out now, you dey fear?"
Durojaiye entered into a office and Mrs Patience Folola flashed a smile at him. "To what do I owe the August visit? Durojaiye Akintoye. It's even past August!"
He took his seat flashing a smile back at her. Then he threw a document on the table and she scanned through it. She laughed afterwards.
"Are you guys trailing me with this? It's not by force to buy or is it? Did Jimmy send you to come meet me?"
"Going by the history of that purchase, it was to be originally being argued upon by you and a certain commissioner but you had your husband ran some shady show and afterwards you lost interest in the land and you refused to buy it. That land has remained desolate because of the drama attached to it and it has been a loss on the management. Why don't you just complete what you started years ago"
"I see you got your history right. Well I'm not interested in it, I lost interest in it. It's like bad sex, you lost interest after one minute."
"Good thing my friend told me what you wanted in return for the purchase"
Mrs Patience frowned, "I have no idea what you're talking about" "Let's not pretend Mrs Falola, your reputation preceeds you."
"He wasn't supposed to say anything. I don't like my dirty things out in public so I'll do well to inform his boss about this and see if he'll have his stupid job after my recommendation" she sucked her teeth and Durojaiye scoffed.
"What do you want?"
"He knows the agreement"
"The guy is married, he'll never cheat on Foluke, heck! that guy won't even touch you with a NEPA pole!"
"Let's strike another deal then Durojaiye Akintoye. Are you up for it?"
"My son is currently dating your daughter, I hope you're aware of it Sir" "My wife must have chipped it in, in out many conversations last night"
"Well they're dating and my son is sexually active"
"Jesus!" Debo rolled his eyes. Just kill me already Mom! Did he have to be present to witness something so archaic? Why couldn't she say it in his absence?
"As I was saying, my son is sexually active and we all know anything can happen from relationships like this. Sex, pregnancy"
"Jesus!" Dera exclaimed on the floor where she sat leaning on the center table. Then she turned back at Debo, "I'm sorry" he mouthed at her.
"I just came as a mother to meet the both of you. And just in case anything happens, he'll take responsibility for it" "Nothing is going to happen." Debo complained.
"Well I want my son to officially declare his intentions like it's usually done In the time of the old"
"You have done well Ma" Papa Orji sighed looking at Dera, then his gaze fell on Debo. "What's your name?" "Debo?"
"Okay"
"What's Okay, Debo as how? Deborah? Deborita?" Mama Orji asked and Dera raised her brow in surprise. "Which one is deborita?" Dera asked, "Tah! Shut up! Na you I ask the question?"
"Um, it's Adebowale"
"Tell them your full name honey" Mrs Akintoye demanded and Debo hesistated. "Adebowale, Ayoola, Stephen Akintoye. That's my full name. I'll like to correct an impression my mother created. She can be crazy at times"
"Ehn!" Mama Orji snapped, "Crazy? How dare you open your mouth and say your mom is crazy?"
"No no no, don't get me wrong Ma, I didn't mean it that way." Debo asked, his voice shook in fear, "You don't say that about your mother" Papa Orji said more calmly.
"Yes Sir, in America..."
"Leave the American culture to the Americans. When you're here, you'll act like a Nigerian" Papa Orji advise and he nodded. "Yes Sir"
"How long before you start saying, Mama Orji, you're crazy. Màá kan fún e ni igbati olooyi! (I'll just give you a dirty slap)"
"I'm sorry Ma. I'll never say it again"
"So how old are you?" She asked afterwards, "Twenty two years Ma" "Small boy like you, have started eating forbidden fruits, scoring goals, very soon now you'll start feeding my daughter sperm. I heard they now drink it like Akamu (pap)"
How's that even proper? Debo asked within. "Well Ma, my intentions are far far beyond that. I like your daughter very much. I liked her from the moment she walked into my brother's wedding party. She took my attention, I saw a decent girl. She's not like those regular girls that will throw themselves at you. She's an amazing person and I already told her that I want her to be my Nike. Very soon, I'll be leaving for school. I'll be coming in once in a while but I just want to know I have a wonderful woman preserved for me for marriage"
"And what if you change your mind and marry one Oyinbo pepper over there?"
"I can't do that"
"Thank God you know cause I'll send thunder to destroy your fine handsome face." She snapped and Debo chuckled. Dera looked over at him, knowing he was only chuckling at the compliment in between the threat.
"What should we do when you eventually get our daughter pregnant?" "That's if I get her pregnant. I'll take full responsibility, I won't run away like a freaking coward. I learnt that from my Mom"
Debo and Dera soon left their parents alone. "You have done well Ma" Papa Orji commented, "Thank you Sir, my parenting skills are lacking but I'm learning a few things from your wife" she smiled at Mama Orji.
"Feel free to break up with me now" Debo muttered and Dera laughed. "Abi you should be the one to break up with me. I look like one village girl like that, I'm dressed in my farm cloth"
"It's not bad"
"Really?"
"It's really bad, you smell like fish like two days old fish" he laughed and Dera shoved him, "Don't push it! You were supposed to lie that I don't look that bad but why should I expect anything more from an idiot?" She snapped and he laughed.
"So I'll lie and you'll start feeling fly, feeling on top of the world like one chick dating a guy named Debo" he answered and she laughed.
"I'm not laughing because you're funny, I'm laughing because you're an idiot and I want to break up with right now" "Your mom thinks I'm awesome sha"
"Look at this one, in your mind! You think I didn't see you shaking your pants"
"Your Mom is something else, she's crazy in a good in a fun way" he turned his back to make sure her mom wasn't behind then he sighed.
"Your mom would have had me for lunch"
"You father is calmer"
"Like me"
"I doubt that, I highly doubt that. It's debatable"
"If your name is really Stephen, I should break up with you for real" she answered he laughed.
Fortunate's phone rang while entering observing an empty spaced room. Besides her was the agent Foluke recommended for her. "It's a nice building" Ebun commented and Fortunate rolled her eyes, "I thought I'll never see you today" she said unconsciously and the owner of the building looked at her.
"I meant this place. I never thought I'll see it today, it's beautiful." She commented turning her back at the man then she shut her eyes clenching her fist then she glanced back at the man.
"You can have a nice office area in the other side, create yourself a lobby"
"That sounds nice. Can i have some time alone?" She requested and the man agreed walking out of the room.
"What do you want?"
"Felecia"
"Forget about it! I'm not going again!'
"Please!"
"After the embarrassment I experienced yesterday, I'm never going to meet her. Read my lips, never!"
"Mide's at the gym, you're supposed to be with him right now. Increase your bonded, make him love you."
"Ebun, it's as if you forget that tiny detail that I'm not jobless. I still have a life apart from Mide, I love him with all my heart but I have a project I'm working on. What's he even doing at the gym?"
"He's venting"
"Oh. When I'm done, I'll check up on him and if he's not at the gym, I'll go back home to avoid drama"
"Miracle"
"I'm the last person his mom wants to see"
Bisola called and Fortunate picked it up, "How far?" She asked, "How far what? You have to specific" "I meant how far generally? What's the development?"
"Apart from the fact Mom poured melon water on Mide's Mom, what's new?" "Are you serious? When did that one happen?"
"Babe, I wasn't around when it happened. I'm just tired."
"I feel like flying over to that Ife to console you. I'm sorry about all these occurrences. Just hang in there babe, everything will be okay"
"Thank you. Moving away from this sad topic, I think I found a perfect spot for FM cycle. I'll send you pictures"
"That sounds great"
After checking out the building, Fortunate called Mide to confirm if he was still in the Gym. She walked into the gym to Mide's spot where she found him sitting on a bench while eating some biscuits with a bottle of Pepsi that rested on the surface of the bench.
"Thank God I was even hungry before I came in" Fortunate said walking into that session of the gym and he turned towards her smiling.
"Let me guess, Taye called you?"
"No. Actually, Ebun told me" she said picking a biscuit then she took a bite. "Oh. How is she?"
"She still wants me to see that lady but I can't. She's scared, she told me you were venting" "I wasn't exactly venting"
Fortunate sat with him then she carried the opened biscuit pack, "So in order words, Ebun was lying" she assumed then she slowly dipped the biscuit one by one into her mouth and Mide watched her.
"I didn't say she .... was" he dragged surprise at how selfishly she chewed each biscuit but he witheld his comments. Fortunate feigned as though she didn't notice the shocked expression on his face.
"Were you still eating it?" She asked mouthful and he laughed. "I wasn't eating it, I was chewing it, didn't you see as i was chewing it before you walked in?"
"Baba Ijebu, because of biscuit you're opening eyes, shooting invisible bullets at me" she hissed, "I didn't even take the Pepsi oh, I was just using my spit to step it down and he's complaining" she replied and he laughed.
"Madam, did I complain? I'm not even stopping you from taking the Pepsi"
"I think I'm okay with the biscuit and my God-given spit." She replied and Mide shook his head then she walked close to him motioned the biscuit close to his lip.
"Oya, oya, don't cry again, take small biscuit"
"You think I'm stupid shey?"
"Baby, I won't do what you're thinking, I'm way more mature than that" she replied and Mide laughed opening his lip. Just when Fortunate moved the biscuit against his lips. Before he could close his lips, she threw it back into her mouth laughing at him.
"I can't believe you thought I was that mature" she answered then she coughed. "Aje oh! (Witch) Mide you haff chop witch from your ancestors." She continued coughing and Mide laughed passing the Pepsi to her.
"Common biscuit ten naira, you cannot even allow me eat in peace. If I drink your hundred naira Pepsi, I will die ni yen!" She answered and he laughed throwing his head backwards.
"Have you been here all morning?" She asked afterwards and he gently nodded.
"Yes why?"
"You smell like perfume mixed in sweat," "I've been exercising all morning" "You smell like sweat" she answered and he held her close raising his armpit over her face.
"Mide!" She screamed. "Didn't you play when you were a child?" She asked looking into his face and he laughed wrapping his arms around her waist then he moved his lips close to hers and they kissed slowly and passionately.
Fortunate stopped when she noticed a girl pass by. "Have you had anything since morning? Anything other than snacks?"
"No. But I called Bisi already. She should be here already"
Bisi walked in with a black polythene nylon. "There she is! Talk about the devil"
"If it's not the latest couple" she hailed and Fortunate cleared her throat moving away from Mide's grip. "Good afternoon Bisi" "Good afternoon Ma, Prince Mide, the love I have for your girlfriend is like I should have been the one to have fallen in love with her." She stated bringing out a small size food flask.
"Hmm, food!" Fortunate clapped her hands, "Food ke? It's fried meat and fish oh" Bisi dropped it on the bench.
Her brow arced in awe, "Seriously?"
"Prince Mide just be like him Papa, they can die for fish and meat sha"
"You can leave now. Thank you very much, Olofofo Bisi, reporting live from Taye's gym" he snapped playfully and Bisi left them alone.
"Things you find out about a guy" Fortunate muttered and Mide held the food flask close then he opened it inhaling the sweet aroma of the stew.
Fortunate rubbed her hands, "Let's start digging" "Digging what? Digging who? Is it someone's name. Who gave you digger? The last time I checked, i was the bricklayer, let me do the digging"
"Are you sure your ancestors were not from Ijebu Ode?" She asked moving close to him and he laughed. "The way you're looking at this this meat. I'm scared already, one is even missing sef"
"Mide!" She snapped, "You're feeling yourself shea?" She asked and he removed a fork from the nylon whicj he used in piercing the meat then he stretched it to Fortunate's lips.
"Nice try. I'm not falling it"
"I'm serious" he replied and she opened her mouth then he dipped it in. "See! I'm a lot more mature than you are" he replied then she smiled.
"There's nothing better than eating meat with your hand, which kind of forming are you doing?" "Both our hands are dirty, I'm sure you have picked your nose ten times today"
"So if I pick my nose now, and I put it inside the meat. Won't you eat it?"
"Why will I eat it? that shit is salty. There's enough salt in the food already" "So you've tasted it before shey, there's plenty in my nose oh, especially those strong ones that you keep rolling in your hands and you wish no one sees you. That's the one I'm about to remove"
"And do what? Put it on a show glass for sale?" He asked then it finally made sense to him the reason why she asked. Then stood up moving away with the food flask in his hands.
"You can't put me off eating this!"
"Why are you taking it away"
"You're an irritating human being, I don't even want to know what goes on in that mind of yours" he commented and she laughed then she sighed.
"I'm sure Charlotte filled you in with everything that happened with Mama"
"Let's not ruin the moment with crazy talk about my Mom or what happened earlier on. I'd rather talk about Catarrh that talk about that incidence"
"I feel bad about what Mama did"
"I'm sure Mom must have made her angry with one remark or the other." He replied taking back his seat.
"What do you think we can do?"
In the evening, after Durojaiye pulled over in front of his house, he leaned his head against the steering then he slammed against he dashboard. "Damn it!" He muttered when Tinuke called him on his phone.
"Hey Babe, can I come over?" She asked and he shook his head, "No." He rubbed his forehead, "Won't Jimmy complain?"
"I'm at Mom's place, it's boring here, I'll just let her know I'll be staying over at a friend's place or i can tell her it's a boyfriend's place"
"Um" Durojaiye closed his eyes overwhelmed with guilt. "Um.... No. I have some business thing I have to do, I have to stay awake looking at the laptop and I would really like to do without the distraction"
"Oh"
"I didn't mean to sound that way"
"It's fine, it's totally fine. I do know I'm a good distraction" she replied, this forced a hearty laughter out of him. "Are you okay? You sound down, are you coming up with something? I can bring Mom's secret Agbo over"
"I'm fine"
"Okay, good night Babe"
"Good night" he sighed. He got out of the car to find his mother leaning against his door. "I've been waiting for close to one hour now" she complained and he scoffed.
"Maybe if you had used your phone, you wouldn't I have waited" he snapped rudely and she exhaled. "I'm sorry" he apologized, "I'm not really in a good mood"
"What's bitting your ass?"
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to see my son, now tell me, is that a crime?" "No but you should have called, what if I didn't come back home?"
"I knew you would come back home. Durojaiye always comes back home, he can get drunk all he wants, he can smoke all he wants but he always ends up sleeping at home. That's one thing I know about my son, Durojaiye Olamilekan Micheal Akintoye"
"Mum don't call the full name" he groaned opening up the door then he entered into his sitting room and she followed him.
"Why?"
"Didn't you see a mom better name like George?"
"What's wrong with Micheal?"
"It's a English name I can't even use."
"You guys don't appreciate good things, the three of you ehn! What's wrong about Stephen?"
"He was stoned to death"
"Awwwn, Durojaiye still remembers that from Bible class" she placed her hands on his cheeks. "When last have you been to the church?"
"Is that what you came to ask?"
"No. I came so we can talk, I just feel bothered that we haven't spoken, even with what happened at the lodge with Sharon, we didn't talk about it" "There was nothing to talk about. Dad's an asshole, period"
"Don't say that about your father, he's still your father"
"Well that's what he is, a big asshole! I'll be better father" "Are you sure? Are you sure Durojaiye? With the kind of life you live"
"Now you're being judgemental"
"Oh sweetheart, I'm not being judgemental, it's what I see every time I look at you. A reflection of your father"
Durojaiye shut his eyes then he gritted his teeth. "I saw him at a hotel when I was coming back"
"Isn't that his home?"
"I hope you don't let him....."
"Sweetheart, let him die of AIDs alone. I don't have the strength to nurse any stupid STDS too" she answered and they both laughed till tears poured down her eyes.
"You don't deserve it"
"Yet you guys treat me that way too" "We don't"
"Gbenu dake! You do! I was telling your little brother earlier on, that you guys don't listen to me. Your brother, Dehinde is the worst, I don't even know where that one is"
"Dubai"
"Doing Yahoo Yahoo shea?" She asked and Durojaiye laughed.
"What's bitting your ass" his mother returned to the question and he shrugged, "I'm fine"
"I know I'm not mother of the year but you can tell me what's going on" she requested and tears poured down his eyes.
Two hours earlier
Durojaiye leaned topless against a wall in a hotel room smirking at Mrs Patience who had a bed sheet covered across her chest. He found the scared expression glued on her face amusing. He was really enjoying the show.
"You're lying, I don't believe you" she said and he laughed.
"You seriously don't? Wait till i send the video to your husband, to the whole world. Imagine the scandal it'll cause. Everyone knows I'm a douchebag but you, it'll ruin your political career"
Mrs Patience Falola shut her eyes, "So threat is your final resort?" "You know how these things goes"
"Durojaiye, you don't know what you're messing with"
"Try anything stupid and I'll have this video going global on all pornography site"
"Please!"
"You'll call Jimmy and you'll tell him, you have taken the deal and you'll recommend to his boss"
"Okay.... Fine, just delete the video"
"I'll have it for safe keeping in case you try to double cross me"
"Aiye mi oh! Durojaiye!" Mrs Patience placed both hands on her head.
Now
"I did something stupid today. I thought, I thought It wouldn't matter if I had sex with her. I was doing it to help Jimmy. I've never felt so guilty about cheating in my entire life." He cried hugging his mother and she slowly patted him on the back.
