Chapter Two
* * *
After a few days of being secluded, the two finally emerged out from their den only to be congratulations on all ends of the spectrum. Yet that drew Sage to be silent and nervous, not in the submitting sense but the level of comfort was obviously low as everyone Back at the Alpha and Luna's house, Sage huffed in aggravation. "Remmy?" She called out, which caused Remus to put aside the new monthly budget plans to come closer to his mate.
She was currently packing her suitcase to travel to Mystic Grimm, but the frown on her face set in. "I can't find other socks."
"They're probably in the laundry hun, how about you take a break from all that, do you want to help me with some math?" Her head darted off in his direction and scrambled to her feet.
"I do math!" So he should've thought that through a lot more than just the casual offer. But she seemed relatively excited to do it, and if it was any suggestion from others. It was to allow her to do more work for the pack, even if it was minimum.
That is how they ended up at the kitchen table, with a cup of coffee and tea between them. Sage was simply going through the math on her end with a piece of scrap paper, the thing with Sage was that she didn't like using a calculator.
Luke suggested offered that it might be because it looks like one of the devices from the Underground, but it was too late to rectify the situation as calculators were a no.
On any regard.
"Rem?"
"Did you finish already?" He grinned, surely she couldn't be done. It'd taken him a while to estimate the numbers, and it was with the help of a calculator.
"This not right. Look." He looked over her shoulder as she pointed with the end of the pencil to direct him to where the math had gone wrong, it'd seem like he overcharged in one area and then didn't calculate enough in another.
"You just saved this pack a lot of money." He growled into her neck, and her wolf adored this helpful nature and so she leaned into his touch.
Though the door knocked rather loudly, as neither Luke nor Liam wanted to mind link them in case they were busy nor come in person. But they'd be able to smell at a decent distance if they were busy, but they weren't.
This time.
"Lu! Le!" She Sage had cheered after yanking the door open, both brothers agreed that she started to fill in herself very well after mating with the Alpha. As though mating healed her and her wolf.
And it had.
"Hey hun, are you ready to see Jade tomorrow?" Sage was a squealing mess and spewing out a whole list of things she wanted to tell her brothers, and it was beyond a mouthful. But they patiently waited until she finished, but of course Luke's eyes wandered down to the bite on her neck and it caused him to shift his weight from one foot to another.
"You come with to Mystic Grimm?"
"Yep, it'll be just like old times. But we're planned guests." Liam might've hated the sudden mating of the Alpha and Luna, but he fell in sync easy enough.
It was Luke who was distant, and Sage ultimately felt that.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah hun, just don't like flying all that much." The Alpha joined the group a few minutes later, but they were planning for an early flight tomorrow morning as it was only about three hours in the air.
"If you keep acting like that, the Alpha will think that you're wolf is more attached to Sage than just a sibling bond."
"It is just a sibling bond, my wolf just doesn't believe he deserved it yet." Liam sighed as they continued to the house.
They were only invited to Mystic Grimm because it felt wrong in letting Sage leave the pack without them. But how long would be until she left without the company of her siblings, they were taking over Jack's job but then again they weren't qualified to do tasks like the council does.
Perhaps he could have a conversation with the Beta of Mystic Grimm, Josh, about trying to find a mate. Remus shared that said male faced the same problem in being unable to locate the she-wolf. But it turned out she was in the Alaskan packs.
There was never enough of a reason to travel that far out, so perhaps she was there.
Remus had been the first one out of the car on the tarmac, Luke and Liam waiting by the steps and already having talked to the pilot. "Remmy I don't like the plane," Sage mumbled, Liam snorted. He'd never heard his sister whine like that before, and of course her mate would coddle her.
"Three hours hun, you can take a nap and read your book." She pouted, and Luke. Who remained silent since their arrival smirked at his brother.
"I guess we don't have to go brother, should I tell the pilot—" Sage gasped, shaking her head and hugging Remus' arm.
"Best get on the plane then." He offered, and Sage took her bag from Remus and rushed up the steps, saying a quick hello to the polite before finding her seat from the last time.
"Two weeks and Sage turned spoiled huh?" Liam smirked, sure it was a bit a male teasing. But Remus eyed the two and nodded.
"You say spoiled, I say expressive." It was indeed a clap back, she did speak back correctly.
Though she wasn't used to Luke's not catering to her, and nor would he if she would act with a pout. "But slightly spoiled." Remus agreed, offering the way up to the plane and of course Liam already threw his head back to see Sage with her seatbelt on and at the ready with a blanket.
"Like that window seat huh?"
"I want to see sunrise." The brothers stood at attention, her voice seemed confident and entirely sure to get her point across.
And Remus held a grin as he settled next to his mate, while the brothers sat across. But like they expected Sage had fallen asleep, first it started on her mate's shoulder, but quickly shifted to his lap as she cuddled into the pillow he placed there.
Remus knew she was in a light sleep, and tried to push her further with the slight running of his hands in her hair. She hummed every now and then, but it was his overall presence that was making her warm.
As promised, the ride was much shorter than Florida. But what Sage needed was a large mug of tea and a hefty reminder that she was a guest on another Alpha and Luna's property. And although her mate and brothers all told her that it was important, as a public introduction to another pack as Luna would showcase the bond made with another...It was meant to be handled in a special way.
However Sage forgot each and every rule, luckily it was only Haylee and Harlow. But the she-wolf was entirely excited to see her friends that she hugged them rather instantly.
"Oh I missed you!" Haylee screamed, having enjoyed texting Sage the entire time from the Luna meeting to now. Hayes seemingly felt left out until Sage moved to him for a hug.
"Yes, I missed you too little wolf."
"I'm not little. I'm training for bear hunt." Luke facepalmed behind the Alpha, but it was always a kick to see what Sage would say next.
"Ah yes, Cresent Moon's bear hunt." Alpha Hayes joked, all before his daughter followed through with the joke.
"Maybe this one will find that mythical bear." Sage's eyes sparked wide as she wanted to hear the story, and Remus shook his head.
"I don't make the legends, and I think I know a few of Mystic Grimm to say we're even."
"As if!" Haylee shot back, her arm around Sage to get her into the car.
"Ah, Alpha Remus...It's been awhile."
"Alpha Drake, it has. Seems like we lost our mates for the time being."
"Oh, I was already warned. They've planned a she-wolf day...Think I can get a word in, big fan of what she did at the Luna meeting." Remus groaned into the air, he was still the only one among the party having not seen it for himself.
"She still hasn't shared it with you huh?" Hayes teases as they walk in a group the given cars.
"She doesn't want me to worry." Luke knew more to the story for sure, she felt rightly embarrassed by the whole thing made her look confused and weak, though in everyone else eyes it was downright entertaining and perfect.
"These the Elwood brothers?" He asked to the group, and Luke came forward to offer his hand.
"Yes sir, Luke Elwood." Drake clapped his hand over the younger wolf's offering.
"Damn celebrities in my pack, always welcomed over at our end." Did everyone see Luke's struggle in wanting a mate? The offer seemed genuine, and he hadn't ever met Alpha Drake before, but it caused Luke to nod sully before turning his attention back to the luna's car.
Which was driving away.
"You two and my son are in for a nice weekend." Hayes chuckled, his own duffle bag over his shoulder as he went off another of the offered cars.
Remus rubbed his temple as he followed the group, though it wasn't long to catch up to the Luna car considering the traffic in Mystic Grimm.
They were car heavy due to the amount of space they have on-pack ground, usually those in Crescent Moon had one car for the family and then other smaller vehicles to get around. As the neighborhoods surrounding the center of town, and the packhouse was not far from any of the main locations.
Sage had just stepped out of the car and stood beside Haylee while she waited for the other males to join them.
Munchkin I don't want to be separated like that alright? Only if you're with Haylee or Jade.
Okay. But I'm safe.
She left Haylee's side to go tug on Remus' arm, holding onto her duffle bag now and smiling up to the familiar packhouse. Both Liam and Luke had watched their sister intently, she was reliving the time they first arrived.
"I had headache when I first here."
"Headache?" Remus questioned, and Luke explained that it was the pack's borders that were hard for Sage and her wolf to acknowledge and cross.
"But I fine now. No headache."
"Did this happen only here?" Hayes questioned, but Liam shook his head.
"Happened at Crescent Moon too." It was silent from there on as both Drake and Hayes thought in wonder, but both Jade and Harlow had started to come out from the packhouse side by side.
Followed by their Beta and their Master of Arms. One of whom caught Sage's attention as she looked between him and Hayes.
"That's my brother little wolf, good eye. He's the Master of Arms like your dad is." She smiled, leaning her form into Remus just a tad more, but as she smelled into the air further she could pick up the lingering scent of the pup.
Making her grin more—However her eyes connected back towards Hayes' brother before looking towards Luke.
Everything alright hun?
Luke called out, it wasn't like her to single her attention out him, but she shined her teeth to her brother.
Your mate here.
Yeah, and how do you know that?
He questioned, not really in the mood for a cryptic answer or for Sage's vague reasoning. But she tapped the center of the temple before turning back to the Alpha and Luna.
And it was a surprise on both ends that Jade had been the first to crack, rushing over towards her friend in a fit of excitement. "Oh look at you! You look so much healthier than when I first met you!" Jade was as doting as ever, while Harlow made the effort in greeting his sister with a tight hug—Even though she looked as though she wanted to be anywhere else.
"I am healthy," Sage spoke in a simple voice, it was definitely much more firm in person. And Harlow surely caught that as he came over. "Yes you are little wolf, look at you. Mated and talking."
"I talk on phone to you, not surprise." Sage's audience was left breathless, he had made an innocent joke and here she was not letting anything fool her.
"You three did good," Harlow spoke, sharing eye contact with the Elwood brothers before looking straight to Remus. Though it was finished with a growl as most if not all Sage's improvements could've been enhanced if he wasn't such an incompetent wolf.
"Can I see pup?"
"Oh darling, he's taking a nap. But how about I make you some tea and get some coffee into everyone first." Sage flashed her a bright smile with her eyes closed, it was such a wolf trait coming to skin form that everyone could agree it was a positive response.
The entire group had gone off towards the Alpha's apartments, it amazed Sage how it converted in the way that it did. Seeing a home within a building like this, but Harlow wrapped his hand around his mate and shared that their house was still under construction.
Which made Sage thankful that she lived alone with Remus in their own house. It smelled like their personalized den, and she smiled widely as she hadn't been in this side of the property all things considering.
"Pretty house." The comment passed well as Jade came over and rubbed her cheek against her friend's. And it earned an even brighter smile. "Oh it's so good to have a full house, how were the holidays?" Harlow grinned off in the corner and linked his sister to catch her up to speed on that end.
"Oh? That's how your Christmas went? Why didn't I get to hear that?" Luke cleared his throat.
"Yeah—I would like to formally leave the room, no offense Luna Jade." She chuckled behind a hand and was about to call someone to escort them to their lodge. But Holden wasn't really here to socialize with his nephew, it was rightly his everyday work considering he worked with him as an Alpha and Master of Arms relation.
Sage however eyed the unknown wolf in a fit of curiosity, which caused Holden to grin. "Stare any longer little wolf, might think you want to challenge."
"Hayes say you master of arms?"
"Ah, yep." Harlow shared a quick gaze to his father, causing a subtle reminder of how Sage greeted people in a certain way, so he made his way over and offered his wrist.
She smiled and nodded, thus getting it out of her system. Though it earned her a pat on the head and combined growl from the majority of the room.
But ended with Sage crossing her arms and pouting. "I'm not a pup, why everyone pet my head?" Her glare was nothing more than an adorable spite, but Holden chuckled even further.
Though it was his brother and nephew who stopped him from making a further joke, the she-wolf was already mildly on edge for being in a new place. Remus realized this once her brothers had decided to leave the room, anxiety picked up rapidly as she looked to the door for another moment or two before leaning into Remus' arm.
"They're just with Holden, Munchkin, we'll see them later."
"Okay." Jade smiled to the family before her. She was hosting two pack leaders and it was such an amazing opportunity to be a normal setting, and see Sage and Haylee.
"So why didn't you tell me you knew Jade was expecting a pup?" Harlow teased, and Sage thought back a good while and shrugged.
"I didn't know we leaving—We were leaving. Very confused." He couldn't be peeved any longer, so winked off in her direction and she scrunched her nose to make a face.
The conversation was light, but when Jade started talking to the she-wolves about what she has planned. It gave Sage a slight mix of anxiety and nervous, it wasn't like her to be pampered or separated from her mate.
But for the first day she wouldn't be, and that was enough to calm her nervous.
However what was all the more strange was when a small little radio had peeked up and admitted a strong crying sound. "Oh! He's up...Please can I go and see him." Haylee was just as excited to see her nephew as Sage was, but she remained silent and weary over radios.
"Er, she's not the biggest fan of radios...Or calculators," Remus stated, and Harlow could only cater to make her feel all the more comfortable. Thus he showed Sage and gave an explination that it even says baby monitor at the corner. And when she held the device she smiled at how it transmitted the voices of Jade and Haylee from one room to the other.
"Pup crying?"
"Hm, he wants his mama," Harlow spoke, and Sage smiled fondly at the idea—Which only set Remus to receive a shared smirk from the other males in the room.
Drake might be a newcomer in this group exchange, but he had heard most if not all of the gossip between the group from Haylee. He felt like he knew everyone already, though he was in this family to begin with. Sage and Remus were the family friends and very close alliance with either.
Hopefully it'll stay that way.
