VERONICA
I clasped my teeth, how dare he could do that to me, purple colour, showing slightly like a blackening on my wrists.

My eyes were swelling with tears and I managed to hold and wish nobody to look at. I rolled my eyes and mopped the tears that deceived me.

Then I heard the restroom door screech open and peeked, Sophia, reaching me with a worried look over her face.

‘’Oh, my holy fuck, what the nightmare appeared to you? What are you doing here all alone?’’ she urged me as a matter of concern.

I scorned her and rose up and rinsed my face and cleaned it with the tissue.

‘’ I watched you and Dereck.’’ my head jerked towards her.

‘’ Then why ask me if you once know what took place? ‘’ I inquired sarcastically.

‘’ I was concerned Veronica, you don’t look like the one who grieves over these kinds of facts. Dereck can be like this sometimes you felt I suppose that guy is a little bipolar’’ she warned.

‘’ How do you know that?’’ I ordered her uninterestedly.

‘’Do you know why because I admired him but he always preferred Fermiga over me and cared for me like his younger sister’’ staying irritated she turned to step towards the exit.

‘’ Veronica if you call for any backing, I’m here for you always.’’ she began to unlock the door.

‘’The world breaks everyone, and afterwards many are stronger at the broken places.’’ a grin lurked on to her face at lines I proposed her, then she acknowledged and passed away.

Again, I departed to classes and praise God, I didn’t see Dereck for the classes. I and Sophia were growing along. I sat with her during lunch in the cafeteria, abruptly I noticed Dereck and Fermiga entering the cafeteria accommodating to the remarkable table along with some jocks from soccer squad.

I was watching across the cafeteria, and we made eye contact on several occasions. Whenever I faced his gazes, I felt paralysed with dread at the very thought of Dereck harming me again. I quickly waved away those emotions and held my head high.

After school, I chose to take a tour through the streets by parking my car in the private parking area of the municipality.

I was wandering and felt nauseated by thought what made Dereck so disturbed. My face was white and raw and was generally unwell due to the tingling of the fingers as if I was overstimulated.

Suddenly out of nowhere a breeze of air knocked me off-balance, and I collapsed face down on the walkway.

Each raindrop is a kaleidoscope if we could only see more closely. I reverenced as I went how it would feel the time stopped, to suspend this watery gift and peek through each one. Perhaps it would fun to sit inside those raindrops and take that gravity propelled ride to the earth. As I imagine it I feel my inner self laughing - a little crazy daydream and a little at my own silliness.

‘’Child? Hello to you. You’ll get a fever, Miss ‘’ a masculine voice answered behind me.

When I altered my head lightly to look at who was it I looked at a fellow very tall with a face full of grey moustache and beard with brown eyes boring into mine. He was holding an umbrella above me and offered me his fist to support. I gladly accepted his hand rose up when our palms met I sensed something very strange emotion of recognition as if I knew him.

We moved inside a café and then he arrayed his umbrella aside and smiled ‘’ What went on there you suddenly lost your stability?’’ he asked full of curiosity in his statement, moving me to the counter.

‘’I didn’t know. I was absorbed in my thoughts then I just fell’’ I explained him earnestly and was yet feeling sickened.

‘’Would you like some caffeine and cookies you sound exhausted ?’’ he showed me with a sincere smile. ‘’Sure, I would treasure to have some.’’ My face bright with joy because sure I was absolutely crippled and drained.

After a while, the guy showed up with two mugs of caffeine and a plate full of choco chip cookies. He set those two mugs and a plate off the counter and made himself comfortable over the chair in front of me.

‘’ This is my café, and it’s a little cosy during these damp days.’’ the old fellow was highly enthusiastic, I admired his character immediately.

‘’Ah, I understand It’s actually nice in here’’ I said sipping my caffeine. ‘’So what do you do, child?’’ he asked me.

‘’I study in Rawol Hecasta High, It’s my last year here,’’ I added thoughtfully.

‘’ Oh great ..’’ he wavered.

Realising his hesitation I said ‘’ My name is Veronica Empire’’

‘’So sweet name dear ‘’ he mumbled, and I noticed a swift emotion of sorrow in his views.

‘’Hey cheer up you didn’t introduce me and that’s quite unjust. ‘’m y mood was getting better, sure his coffee and place were the best therapists for me today.

He chuckled, and I saw wrinkles under his eyes and cheeks that represents him older than he looks.

‘’ I’m Cent ‘’ he beamed, and we shook our hands, when I was going to pay him he replied ‘’ Ah no no you can return next time, today you were going through dreadful and sure it’s turning black and I believe it would be better Veronica if you head home, shall I drive you home? or...’’ he was disturbed by a bitter voice ‘’ No need come. Veronica, I’ll drop you home.’’

I tipped my head and choked. It was Dereck standing immersed in the ain.

‘’ I know my way to home and you don’t require caring about. Thank you Cent for the caffeine and cookies and of course your company. I’m leaving now’’ I waved to Cent and bolted out the café with a furious Dereck following me. It was still raining, but I avoided it and kept on trudging. 

Suddenly I was jerked away into an alley and was captured between the wall by the devil. 

‘’What is your problem? Leave me alone and stop bothering me’’ I stated coldly. ‘’ Veronica shut up and join with me, I’ll drop you home’’ he was worried.

‘’Stop saying bullshit you dumbass, I have my own car parked in the square lot ‘’ I wriggled under his frigid gaze.

He raised my chin and was making real close to my liking I watched his plump lips tremble against the raindrops and his eyes never leaving mine.

‘’Why are you so sassy towards me, huh! I’m I that bad ‘’ he spoke with a smirk

‘’ You delusional ass, in the dawn you just call for me to race and suddenly now authoritatively advising me how dangerous racing is and later intentionally bruising my wrist and above all calling me a bitch how...’’ I was caught off guard when he pecked me on my cheeks and positive I was blushing like a beetroot. 

He caressed my hair ‘’ I’m sorry for upsetting you Rons ‘’ he stepped close towards my lips , swiftly I placed my palms between us. 

‘’You have girlfriend, Dereck and no I won’t excuse you, Now I’m going’’ I responded curtly because I’m not any random cliché girl who would go down under the spell of a bad guy, with that I turned to walk aside from him and threw him a partly glance and went away to get my car.

If you don’t take the latter step down that track, you’ll likely regret the reaction and his quiet regret made me impatient. But why?
