She rowed her boat up to the docks of the main island with Sora. He tied the boats to it and She thanked him for it.

"It's not a problem at all!" He smiled.

She giggled and looked up at the stars. "So beautiful..."

"Ever wonder what they are?" Sora finished his own and smiled up at her.

"Well..." She closed her eyes and something was squeezing her heart inside. A single tear dropped off of her face. "I don't know..."

He saw her face and tilted his head. Why was she crying? They suddenly felt an unusual breeze and looked out to sea. Mai got a smell of it. It was like the aftertaste of a bitter dark chocolate. Her head felt light and she couldn't keep her eyes open.

"Sora, can you carry me home? I'm tired..." She yawned and Sora nodded.

"S-sure... Piggyback or bridal style?" He blushed.

"I... don't care..." She fell to her knees. Sora eyes widened.

"Mai!" He knelt down next to her. She had her eyes closed and her breathe was light. He sighed in relief as he realized she was asleep. He then small smiled, picking her up. He wrapped her arms around his neck and she hugged him during her sleep. He quietly chuckled and put her legs by his sides for a piggyback ride.

He heard her snoring as he neared her house. He giggled and blushed. He was about to knock on the door when he saw a note that said:

Mai,

Went to get groceries and other needs. Be back soon.

~Mom & Dad

Sora sighed and made his way to his house. 'Right, she can stay with us again tonight.'

In Mai's Mind...

"My little flower, please open your eyes." The redhead opened her eyes to see a beautiful young woman with her hair- her red curly hair! The facial features matched, too. The only difference was the height, the glasses, and eyes. Where Mai had green, she had blue.

"Wait, are you possibly related to me?" Mai asked.

She sadly smiled and nodded, "I will always and forever be in your heart til-"

"My memory fails and I can no longer breath..." She said, looking down. She closed her eyes and felt a hand on her cheek. Something clicked in her memory. She looked up smiling, tears falling. She hugged the woman. "M-mom?"

"Flower, I missed you so much..." She kissed her daughter's forehead.

"Why did you have to go?" The green-eyed girl whispered, close to sobbing.

"Shh, there, there, my flower." She stroked her hair, calming her down, "Everything has it's time. The sun has set on my time. And now... It's time it raises with you."

"What? What's going on?" She looked up at her.

She sighed and moved away, her white dress moving with her. Her hands glowed and formed into a ball. As the light flared up, Mai looked through it without blinding herself. She saw a something forming. That something turned into a white baby chicken.

"Kw... Kweh!!" It said, flying to her. It landed in her cupped hands.

"Is this a baby chocobo?" She petted it's head with her index finger. It kwehed in delight.

"This is the Angel of Valhalla. It will protect you against any illness or curse. He can also help you find your hidden abilities." She looked in her mom's eyes. "The only thing it can't do is protect you from losing your heart. I urge you to be careful."

"Why?"

She started to glow and turned into a glowing orb. "I'm sorry, I only have so much time. Destiny Islands will crumble to darkness." Mai gasped and shook her head at this. "However, you need to stuck with your friends. They will be your strength and your-"

"My power." She gasped in realization, "Wait, what about you?"

"You may not remember me fully but I'll be with you in your heart." The orb entered her chest. "Never forget, stars can't shine without darkness."

Sora was about to reach his home when a little white bird appeared in light. He stopped and stared at the bird.

"Kweh! Kweh!" It hovered above him and Mai.

"Hey little buddy!" He smiled and heard Mai groan. She opened her eyes, slightly dazed. "Mai! Are you alright?"

"I... I guess..." She used her looked at the white chocobo chick. "It wasn't a dream... was it?"

"Huh? What was-?"

Brum!

They looked up and Mai jumped off Sora's back. Dark thunder clouds rolled in and the wind picked up.

"A storm?" She felt a rain drop hit her nose and light rain drizzled down.

"Oh no! The raft!" He ran back to the docks.

"Sora, Wait for me! I have a feeling this isn't a regular storm..." She ran after him.

***

They looked around and the trees danced in the wind. The rain got heavier.

"Riku's boat... and Kairi's, too!" Sora pointed out and Mai's eyes widened.

"We need to find them, Sora! And fast before the winds pick up more!" She ran into the islands with the chocobo.

"Riku! Kairi!" Sora shouted.

"Please! Answer!" She growled, "We'll cover more ground! Sora, go find Kairi. I'll go find Riku. We'll meet at the raft!"

"Sounds good!" He ran off.

'Sora, stay safe...' she watched him until he entered the Secret Place. She turned around to saw silver hair walking across the bridge. "Riku!"

He looked at her and she saw the smirk he had on his face. She gasped as he surrounded with darkness and ran through the shack to get to the bridge, only to find him gone. She fell to her knees. 'I... I'm too late...'

Darkness surrounded her and she stood up. However, she couldn't. Her wrist were restrained as well as her legs.

"Oh, well that's great..." She said sarcastically.

She pulled against the restraint until she realized she was sinking in the darkness on the ground. She widened her eyes and struggled more violently. She screamed as the darkness started to hurt. The white chocobo kwehed and glowed with a pure white light, saving Mai and clearing the darkness. A key like weapon appeared in her hand.

{Note: this is her keyblade. I don't know why I put it in a bottle... You'll see what else it can do later.}

"Kweh!" The bird landed on her head.

"What is this?" She eyed the key curiously. Black creatures of the dark came out of the ground, staring at her with gleaming yellow eyes. She gulped and stepped back.

Don't be afraid! You have the keyblade.

"Huh?" She turned to the Angel of Valhalla and it kwehed. "Was that you?"

"Kweh!" He flew up as she looked around. She breathed in and out.

"Not entirely sure what's going on but I need to stop this." She swung her keyblade at one at it hissed and disappeared. As more of them tried to attack her, she became swifter. "Ha! Is that all you-?"

She stopped mid sentence when she got hit in the head with a piece of wood. Her glasses went flying off as did she. She groaned and felt light headed. She raised her hand to her head and it felt damp. Sniffing it was like smelling metal, giving her the hint of bleeding from her head. She could see her hand but not the blood as it was to blurry for her. She realized her glasses were off.

"Kairi!!!" She shouted as she searched for them. "Riku!!! SORA!!!"

Wind picked up. Rain droplets eeriely froze in mid air. Mai finally felt her glasses and quickly picked them up. She saw the huge crack on her left glass. Her head was killing her and her vision was not even stable. She closed her eyes and her body felt as if it was taken by the wind into the giant dark orb above the islands.

Everything else was black.
