Chapter One
--------------------
Happiness. Defined by Webster's Dictionary as a feeling or showing pleasure or contentment with a person, arrangement, or situation. Some words that mean the same are: satisfaction, cheerfulness, merriment, gaiety, joy, joviality, jollity, glee, delight, exuberance, exhilaration, elation, ecstasy, jubilation, rapture, bliss, blissfulness, and euphoria.
Raine was feeling all of the above. He loved his wife and children, he loved that he was a father, he basically loved life. If there was a word that meant more than happy, it would describe him perfectly.
Only a week had passed since Noelle gave birth to Ivy and Theo, but to Raine it felt like a lifetime. He had been so worried that fatherhood wouldn't take, but to his surprise, he was a natural. He loved the little faces Ivy made or the silly noises Theo intoned. If he had the option, he would hold them all the time. Raine was planning on spoiling his children to death, but Noelle wouldn't allow it.
He gazed down at the cribs where Ivy and Theo were sleeping and smiled warmly, reaching out a hand to touch Ivy's cheek. She gurgled something, but kept sleeping, silent for once. Raine chuckled lightly and did the same to Theo, tapping his nose lovingly. They were so adorable as they slept, a complete contrast to the howling banshees when awake, but he loved them all the same.
"RAINE!" he heard Noelle yell from across the house. He jolted up and stared at the doorway and then back at his kids, torn between the two. He wanted to help Noelle, but he was so afraid of leaving his children alone for even a second.
Finn walked in a second later and motioned for Raine to go find Noelle. "It's fine," he said. "I'll watch the babies. Go!"
Raine muttered something, but left the room at a light jog, searching for Noelle. She had sounded worried or in pain and it was kind of freaking him out. He skidded to a stop outside their room and froze with his hand on the doorknob. He smelled blood. Heart racing, he pushed the door open, afraid of what he'd find inside. There were splatters of blood on the bed and floor leading to the bathroom. The door to the bathroom was open, so Raine crept softly to the entrance, hoping to God Noelle was inside and alive.
He stopped in the doorway and felt every part of his body freeze in shock. "Shit," he choked out.
Noelle looked at him in the mirror and smiled weakly. "Surprise?" Her back, arms and hands were covered in blood because she now had a pair of wings sprouting from her back. They had torn her flesh as they fought to break through the skin. Noelle's wings were an ethereal silver color with a span of about three feet and they were covered in blood.
Raine grabbed a towel and started carefully wiping the blood off, oblivious to Noelle's reactions. She gripped the sink with her hands, biting back moans of pleasure as her eyes fluttered closed. Her new wings were ultrasensitive to touch, and even the slight rasp of the towel was turning her on. "R-Raine," she finally gasped out, unable to take it anymore.
He paused in his ministrations and looked at her in the mirror. "Am I hurting you?" he asked worried.
She shook her head, opening her eyes to stare at him in lust. "It feels too good," she rasped. "They're sensitive." Understanding dawned, and Raine reached out to trail a finger over the arch of her wing. "Oh gods," she choked out, shuddering in ecstasy.
Raine's eyes flared as he took in her reaction. "I can handle this," he said suggestively, entranced with Noelle's new features. Dropping his hand, he took a step back from Noelle and ran a hand down his face. She had wings. It was still too soon after the birth for them to have sex, but damned if he wasn't ready.
"Remember King Clovis mentioned that I would gain powers as soon as I gave birth?" Noelle whispered. "I guess he wasn't kidding."
"That's an understatement," Raine pointed out. "What else changed?" He was curious to see the extent of her powers, being only half pixie. She already had the wings...meaning she was royalty or something to that extent.
"Well," Noelle said, drawing the word out, "I glitter." When Raine gave her an odd look, she held out her hand, showing him a palm full of silver dust that glittered in the light.
"Pixie dust," he whispered in awe. Pixie dust was highly powerful stuff. If used correctly, Noelle could cast a sort of spell on her victims making them see or feel things that weren't real. "You better be careful with that. I'd suggest talking to Violet about your new found powers."
Noelle nodded, examining the dust carefully. "I want to try something, okay? Do you trust me?" Raine nodded slowly, praying that whatever she was trying out wouldn't backfire. She narrowed her eyes and lifted her hand up to her mouth, blowing lightly so that the dust swirled towards Raine, drifting onto his skin. Concentrating, Noelle pictured a sort of glamour on herself, hoping that her dust would enable her to disguise her image.
Raine blinked when the dust settled on his face. He waited a few seconds before brushing it out of his eyes and looking at Noelle. Instead of his wife standing in front of him though, he saw a very plain looking girl standing there. "Noelle?" he asked suspiciously.
The girl bit her bottom lip and looked at him with large brown eyes. "Yah, it's me. What do I look like?"
Shock colored his face as he realized that she really was Noelle. "Wow. You look very...plain. Almost like you could blend into the crowd and no one would look twice at you. Brown hair, brown eyes, average height, no remarkable features...basically average."
The girl flashed him a grin, "Perfect!" When he gave her a curious look she sighed and said patiently, "If I can hide my real image and blend in, then enemies can't attack me. I wonder if I can hide other people's images." She pursed her lips and thought about it. If it was possible to hide her children's images then that would ensure their safety until they grew old enough to protect themselves. Their struggles were far from over. Now that her children had been born, not child, the paranormal world was scrambling for an answer. Some didn't really care about why, they just wanted to get their hands on her children because of the power. Either way, Noelle would stop at nothing to protect her babies.
"We can test out your theory later," Raine said. "For now, can you 'unglamourize' yourself and help me clean up our room? I'll let you shower with me if you do." He winked suggestively and waited for Noelle to change back to her normal self.
She licked her lips before blowing another wave of pixie dust at him. When he opened his eyes, she was standing right in front of him, back in her original form. "Better?" she asked huskily.
"Much better," he growled, leaning down to kiss her fiercely. She moaned and wrapped her arms around him, still not tired of his intoxicating taste. A shiver raced down her spine when his fingers brushed against her wings.
They broke apart regretfully, kissing one last time before giving the room a disgusted look. Noelle sighed and grabbed a towel from the bathroom, getting it wet in the sink. "Sorry about the mess," she said. It would be hard to get the blood out of the sheets, but the floor was wood and the bathroom floor was tile, so that was easy enough to clean.
Raine shrugged and gathered up the sheets. "No worries, they can easily be replaced." He placed them outside the room and started helping her clean up the rest of the splattered blood.
There was a knock on the door a couple minutes later. "Do you know how to retract your wings?" he whispered to Noelle. She scrunched her brow, concentrating on the foreign action, yet she was eventually able to pull them back through the slits in her back, effectively hiding them from whoever was at the door.
"Come in," Raine called, after Noelle was done. They had gotten most of the blood cleaned up so that all that was left was on Noelle's arms and back. She went to the bathroom while Raine dealt with whoever it was and washed the blood off as best she could.
"Welcome back!" Raine smiled when he saw that it was Ryder waiting outside his door.
"Thank you," Ryder grinned. He and Clover had left a couple days ago for the Pixie Court to be married. Everyone had traveled with them for the ceremony, but left the next day. Ryder and Clover had stayed a couple extra days to pay respect to the pixies.
"How was the honeymoon?" Raine asked, leaning against the doorjamb.
Ryder gave him a very male grin, "Perfect." His mind was instantly drawn away from his original task and back to Clover. Normally he would think that it was odd to be so consumed with one person, but with Clover it felt so natural. He loved her so much, sometimes it scared him, but the fact that she loved him back always calmed him down again. But that was something to think about later. Right now he needed to deliver a message to Raine.
"I have something for you," he said, holding out a sealed envelope. "It's from King Clovis, I have no idea what it says."
Raine took it from him and quickly tore it open, curious as to what Clovis had to say. Maybe he knew something about Noelle's new powers and was congratulating her. He resisted the urge to snort at that thought. The day King Clovis praised someone would be an odd day indeed.
Scanning the contents Raine felt all of the blood drain out of his face. "Noelle," he rasped hoarsely.
She was at his side seconds later, "What? What is it?" He wordlessly handed her the letter. She took it from his shaking hand and read the words. "Oh my god," she gasped, absolutely horrified. "It can't be true. It just can't." Her voice sounded hollow to her ears, as if she was speaking from a tunnel. With wide eyes she looked up at Raine, wordless asking what they were going to do. On the paper was written one sentence. "One child will be good and one will be evil."

alright, now before y'all get excited and shit a brick, i'm not going to be updating this very often and the chapters will be skipping years. So the next chapter the kids will probably be a bit older, probably 2 or 3. I'm only writing this for fun, it's not really a sequel, just little glimpses into their lives from where KHC left off. Plus, I'm focusing on my new story more than this one, and the my other story that I update whenever I feel like it...which is almost never. Woops. :P
Ok? now you can tell me how awesome I am for neglecting my homework to give you another chapter :)
xoxo nichole
