(Y/n) POV

You were walking around school clutching your books to your chest with Luke and your friends beside you. You couldn't help but feel that something was missing and you realised it was Kaneki's presence. He made you feel safe and secure, not saying that Luke doesn't make you feel the same way it was just, something is up with him, he seems....different. He didn't talk as much now nor did he interact with anyone. It was strange seeing the person you grew up with just instantly change, and for what reason? You turned your head to the side as you looked to Luke. He was walking with a bored expression on his face and seemed that he couldn't be bothered with school or people. You furrowed your brows and continued walking, this causing Luke's slight attention. But before he could say anything, there was a light tap on your shoulder. You stopped and turned to look behind you only to see Hide. You have him a sincere smile. He tried to smile back as you could see he was upset or something was wrong. "Hey Hide what's up? You ok?" He shook his head and clutched his bag straps tighter. "Can we talk." You felt horrible for Hide knowing that he was terribly worried about Kaneki and that he wasn't the same without him. You began to follow and so did Luke, that is when Hide stopped. "In private..." You looked back to Luke with a sorry face as he said nothing. But what you couldn't get off your mind was why he was slightly glaring at Hide. Something is up and you were going to get to the bottom of it. You told Luke you would see him later and he walked off with (f/n) and you went with Hide outside and sat under a tree.

You sat in silence for a while until Hide spoke, you knew that this would be about Kaneki, you could tell with the way he approached you and the way he is acting. "How is Kaneki?" He said softly as he looked to the ground. You leaned against the trunk of the tree as you smiled slightly. "He is fine Hide, you have nothing to worry about." You tried to make him feel more comfortable around you. Seeing that you were the only one to have close contact with Kaneki, Hide found it best to talk to you. He sighed lightly to himself slightly relived with your answer. More and more as you guys talked Hide seemed to really open up to you. Even if you noticed before how worried he was, you never knew how much he had cared for Kaneki, it seemed that he was like a brother. It made you smile as to how much someone could care for another. It then made you think back to Luke, he was basically your brother and you could kind of put yourself in Hide's shoes, knowing how worried you were when Luke was in hospital. You and Hide talked until the bell went and you could see Hide relaxing more and more. You told him Kaneki was getting better and he would be at school soon. Hide gave you a genuine smile and it caught you slightly by surprise. He is taking this really well, you were actually proud of him. You guys walked back to your lockers and then to class. Little did you know that the ghoul who attacked you was watching you from the bushes very closely.

-Time skip-

You and Luke were walking home and he was now different again, now he was back to his old self, and this only seemed to happen when you two were alone. You couldn't help but notice that he seemed to protect you slightly, does he know about your counter with a ghoul? You soon arrived at your house and you couldn't help but feel excited. As you walked closer to the door Kaneki burst out of the house and pulled you close. You were surprised but when you went to say goodbye to Luke, he was gone.

Kaneki's POV

I didn't realize that I fell asleep on the couch, I had slept for most of the day. At first I didn't realize I wasn't in my own apartment. The remembered that I was at (y/n)'s house..wait...(y/n)! Where is she? I looked to the time and realized that she should be home soon. I tried to calm down but that didn't help when I could smell her scent, and she was with someone. But there was another presence....the ghoul! As soon as she was at the door, I sprinted out and embraced her. I glared I to the distance as I looked around not letting (y/n) see my expression. But I couldn't see anything, and I saw Luke walk away in the distance. Thank god, she was with Luke. A while weight was lifted from my shoulders as I pulled her inside. "Hey, you seem excited to see me." She smiled up at me. I chuckled and kissed yer cheek. "Of course I did, the day was so long without you." No way was I going to freak her out about smelling the ghouls presence.
