Chapter 1
Chapter 1
5-6-7-8, rond de jambe. Turn and petit battlement. Port de bras, allonge and soutenu. Ecarte and efface. Port de corps and pirouette.
Rey stood smiling, though out of breath, looking at herself in the wide mirror that spanned across the room. The music stopped and Rey dropped her posture putting her hands behind her head, breathing in deeply. She couldn't be happier that practice was over for the day.
She sat down on a bench in the dressing room and unlaced her ballet shoes, carelessly throwing them in her duffel bag. She put on her warmups and left to go meet her friends for dinner.
"Looking good in there peanut," Finn, one of Rey's best friends, said throwing a arm around her shoulder.
"It might look even better if someone wouldn't grab my waist as hard in the second port de corps," Rey said throwing a glance at her other best friend, Poe, standing beside Finn.
"Hey it's not my fault you're too far out. Get closer and I won't have you grab you as hard to stop you from face planting," Poe said in return. Rey rolled her eyes with a smile.
The three friends walked away from the Resistance School of Dance and headed towards their favorite café. They joked around mimicking each other's parts in the ballet. Rey spun around and ran into a man, who looked to be in his early twenties, with black hair walking with his friends.
Rey began to say sorry to the man but stopped when she realized who they were. They were ballet students who went to their rival school, First Order Academy of Dance. The two of them stared at each other with a dark glare in their eyes.
"Watch where you're going street rat," the man hissed at Rey. Rey flipped her hair and walked away from the group of friends from the First Order.
"Leave her Kylo. She's not worth it," said a blond headed girl said to the man with the black hair.

"Did you see the look on his face! He looked like he stepped in a pile of crap!" Rey said angrily at friends.
"Rey chill out. Their First Order dancers. They'll hate us no matter what we do," Poe said to Rey trying to calm is friend down. "Plus it doesn't matter, we're better anyways."
Rey let a small giggle slip and turned it into all three of them laughing. Rey sighed an took a sip of her coffee.
"I'm just ready for this performance to be over with. Unkar is already losing his head over it. He's already making me work everyday this week. And speaking of, I better leave. Can't risk being late again," Rey said standing up, slinging her duffel bag over her shoulder. "I'll see you guys at practice tomorrow."
•
Kylo and his group of friends walked into a bakery across town and sat down at an empty table. The other friends talked about the upcoming auditions for the next performance for the First Order. Kylo watched as a girl ran threw the doors with a large bag at her side and pushed her way into the back. He heard a man yelling and ,who he guessed was the girl, who said a witty remark back to him. A large crash came from the kitchen where the altercation was happening. Kylo watched as the girl came back out, quickly tying an apron around her waist while wiping away tears falling down her checks.
The girl straightened herself up and put a smile on her face and and walked over to their table. Kylo recognized her as the girl who ran into him earlier that day after practice. A frown quickly formed on his face.
"Hello, I'm Rey and I'll be taking your order today. Can I get you guys started with some drinks," Rey said in a fake, cheerful voice.
"Coffee. Black," Kylo said shortly.
"And we'll both take a cappuccino," a red haired man said gesturing between him and the blond headed girl.
Rey scribbles down their orders and stuck her pen behind her ear.
"I'll be right back with those."
Kylo stared out of the window not paying attention to his two friends, Gwen and Hux, taking about an upcoming ballet audition. He only looked up when a phone was shoved in front of his face. He looked at he phone and smiled at his friends.
Swan Lake was being produced by the one of the biggest theaters around the city. And his was going to be his big break.
•
Rey smiled down at her phone at the picture her friends sent her. Swan Lake was going to get her out of this hell hole.
