Selection
*based on "The Selection" By Keira Cass*
"Jimin, the Selection is coming up."
"I know your highness, I'm aware," Jimin was folding clothes in the corner of the prince's suite while the Prince himself laid on his bed. Jimin was supposed to be doing stuff like that down in the work room, but Prince Jungkook enjoyed his company, so he told him to do his chores up here.
"Do you not feel sad at all?" Jungkook sat up, staring his butler down.
"What is there to be sad about?"
"Well, thirty-five beautiful girls will come and try to win me over either to get me, or to get the crown," The Prince looked at him with an expression that almost looked pained. "I already made my feelings for you clear and you do nothing."
"Well your Highness-"
"Don't sass me Jimin. We're behind closed doors, stop with the formalities."
"Well, Jungkook, there's not much I can do. I can't produce an heir for you, which is essential to carry on the royal line. Even if I could, I don't have any ties that could help you. I'd do no good at being a prince, and many people would be angry you called off the Selection," Jimin stated matter-of-factly.
"You never said you weren't attracted to me though," Jungkook propped his head on his elbows, gaze never once wavering from the other male. "Let's say I was just a boy, a common boy, your friend, and I confessed. Would you accept me then?"
"...I am not obligated to answer that because it was merely hypothetical," The butler's voice was calm, but his face was red, it practically gave it away.
"I bet you'd look good under me," the younger stood from his bed, walking slowly towards Jimin like he was prey. "I bet you'd look even better if I was ripping your clothes off."
"P-please stop," Jimin became flustered very quickly.
"Would you like that?" Jungkook whispered, in front of the butler, but he remained silent. "What if...I ordered you to tell me honestly?"
"Yes your Majesty," The shorter didn't want to, but he respected Jungkook too much to disobey him.
"Would you like to do it tonight?" Jungkook inched closer, both their hearts racing. "I definitely don't want to force you to do anything, but if you're up to it?"
"I..." Jimin took a second to think, before finally making eye-contact with scared eyes. He wasn't scared of Jungkook, no. He was just terrified of his power. "I would your majesty, but is it really a good idea? You're about to get married to a very lovely girl, this will only hurt you. I don't want you to get hurt."
"Who cares?" Jungkook shruggs. "I want to make my own decisions for once, and if you want it I really want it too. No one will know but us."
"...Alright."
*
"Why must you make it so difficult to say no?" Jimin frowned, putting his pants back on. "I'm trying to reject you for the good of the country, but you make it so hard."
"You've known how I've felt for two months," The prince didn't bother putting his clothes back on, still under the covers. "This made me not want anyone else for the rest of my life."
"And that's exactly why I tried to dissuade you. Surely you know we can't do things like this when the Selection happens," Jimin gestured to the bed. "I don't know what I was thinking I was going to wait until marriage."
"I'll wait."
"We can't do anything at all like this when you pick someone Jungkook," Jimin whispers.
"Then I'll choose you..." Jungkook trails. They both know it's too late now to stop the Selection. Even if they could, Jungkook's Mother wouldn't approve. She's caring and loving, but she's been preparing for Jungkook's Selection the second he was born.
"You know that's not how that works," The smaller pouted, feeling even more conflicted than he had previously been.
"Don't give up hope," The prince promised. "I'll find a way, even if it means the Selection has to go on for a bit."
"I still don't even know if I want you," The butler confessed. "Or the crown, or the fame, or even the money."
"I know it's rather daunting but for now don't think about anything but me," Jungkook advised. "I just want you to figure out if you want me above anything else. Okay? That will help you make your final decision. And, I will respect any decision you make, but you very well know what I hope you choose."
"But what if I do want to be with you then you find someone you like more?"
"That question alone gives me hope you care about me. I don't think I'll ever find someone as beautiful, as dedicated, as adorable, as considerate, or as perfect as you," Jungkook assured. "That you don't have to worry about."
*
"And last, but certainly not least," The prince stuck his hand into the last bowl, "Miss Lydia Cunningham of Likely," He faked a smile. While she did look rather lovely, she's not someone he could see himself living the rest of his life with.
None of them are.
He tries to wrap up the conversations after the Report quickly so he could get back to his room. In the past few weeks he's come to really love his room, more than he has before. In there, he could keep unwanted people out, and spend time with the one he's had eyes on for a long time.
He closed the door behind him quickly, going to the beautiful butler and pecking his cheek. "Hello my Fairy,"
"Stop..." but the request was only half-hearted.
"What else am I supposed to do?" Jungkook raises his arm up only for them to come back down with a slap. "I'm going to be busy with 35 potential suitors so I won't be able to give enough affection to you. Do you really want me to stop? Be honest."
"N-no...I guess I'm just embarrassed," Jimin looks down.
"Aww, my Fairy is shy," The prince coos. He proceeds to kiss all over the smaller's face, feeling it heat up under his lips. "Would I be incorrect if I said the only thing keeping you back from me is my status?"
"No..."
"Does that mean you're sure of your feelings for me? I have given you two weeks."
Jimin looks up into his eyes, and Jungkook swears he can see the stars in them. "Yes."
Jungkook smiles the warmest smile. "Then that's all I need."
*
"And I really can't believe I'm here with you now it's just amazing!" A girl named Maryellen gushed. Jungkook knew he had to show a bit of effort in the Selection, for media purposes, so at the moment, they were walking to the movie theater together.
Jungkook chose to take her there hoping it would shut her up for a bit. She was nice enough, but she wouldn't keep quiet! He had basically tuned her out at this point. While he wasn't thrilled about the Selection he did hope to be able to tolerate most of them.
That was proving to be difficult.
It's not like they're the wrong gender or anything like that; Jungkook's bisexual. He had liked both guys and girls at points of his life, but being the terribly committed person he was, if he liked someone, he wouldn't look at anyone else other than notice the fact a certain person is attractive. So now that he was in a rather complicated relationship, (if you could even call it that) none of these girls, though all diversely beautiful in so many ways, caught his eye.
Speaking of his Fairy, just as his thoughts started drifting to his beautiful butler, the boy came around the corner. He was carrying some of Jungkook's suit coats. When he saw the Prince his eyes, just barely, lit up, which Jungkook was sure Maryellen didn't notice. She was probably too much into her own little world anyways, looking around at absolutely everything.
"Your Majesty," Jimin bowed, reminding Jungkook that they were in company of others.
"Are you bringing those to my room?" Jungkook gestures to the suit coats, maybe staring a little too much at the shorter. Right now he was too mesmerized to care. How could he look so perfect just standing there?
"Yes your Highness," Jimin glanced at the girl on the prince's arm. "Hello my lady," He bowed once again. If Jungkook hadn't known the smaller for years, he probably wouldn't have heard the slight jealousy in his voice. That made his heart jump, just a bit, at the thought that Jimin was jealous over him. "Well, I best be off." He sped away at a hasty pace, Jungkook's gaze following.
"Who was that?" The girl questions, finally realizing Jungkook was staring.
"He's my personal butler," Jungkook explains, looking back at her once Jimin turns a corner. "I've known him since childhood, though we weren't close until he got chosen to take care of me when I was around 14."
How is he going to keep him a secret? Even a simple glance at his fairy and his stomach erupted in butterflies. The Selection was already proving to be difficult.
*
"My Fairy, are you in here?" Jungkook closed the door behind him.
"No."
The prince chuckled. "What's wrong?" He walks up to the pouting boy and touches his hand.
"I don't know, why don't you ask Maryella or whatever her name is," Jimin tires to pull his hand back, which only makes the taller's grip tighter.
"That's only for show. You know that," Jungkook rubs the back of the butler's hand with his thumb. "It would look bad if I wasn't giving them an equal chance this week. I have to give them something to say at the interviews on the Report. I already sent two girls home. Would you like me to dismiss more? That Maryellen you saw me with sure talks an earful. I'd be nothing but happy to send her home."
"She was touching you."
"Her hand was on my arm, it's the proper thing to do," Jungkook smirked. "Only you get to touch me like this."
He brought the butler's lips to his and kissed him passionately. How could he ask for anyone else? How could Jimin even think he would want someone else when he was kissing him this sweetly? The smaller was so infatuated with Jungkook's lips, that he made a little noise of disappointment when he pulled away.
"I knew jealousy made your feelings for someone stronger, but I never knew it would earn this," Jimin looked up, breathless.
"I will make sure that someday, I will get to show my love for you in front of the entire country-" Jungkook stopped himself, realizing what he said.
"Love?" Jimin questioned. "D-don't you think that it's a little premature?"
"Not if it's you," It was already out there, so the prince might as well emphasize it.
"I'm so sorry Jungkook, I...I can't say I love you yet. It's too early," That crushes the taller momentarily. "But, you really make it difficult not to fall in love with you, the Selection proves it, the country proves it, even...even I prove it. I want to get to a point where I can say it though, I really do, and I'm so glad you love me already, because to be honest it will probably be easier to say it. Just, wait a bit longer, okay?"
"I'd wait a thousand lives for you Fairy."
*
As the two-month mark for the Selection came around Jungkook was already itching for it to be over. At the moment he was with yet another girl. There were 16 girls left. If he didn't like her, she was gone. If Jimin didn't like her, she was gone. He tried his best to not send too many girls home too quickly, but sometimes it was difficult to hold back. He hoped he wasn't seen a rude or shallow through this process. He was well liked by the country before the Selection, he'd really like to be well-liked after.
"Hey Jungkook?" The girl broke him out of his thoughts. He must have been staring into space instead of eating his dessert.
"Yes, Angelica?" The Prince looked back at her. He was so distracted that he didn't even realize she didn't use the word 'Prince'.
"Can I ask a sort of...personal question?" Angelica hesitates.
"Sure," Jungkook shrugs, chuckling a bit. "But I'm not sure I'll answer it."
"Is there...someone else?"
The prince's eyes widen. "What?"
"I've noticed you've seemed distant with me, and the other girls have seen it too, every single one of them. They've all noticed you've seemed reluctant to go on dates, and when you do, your thoughts always seem to be on something, or someone else," Angelica sucked in a breath. "We're kind of all wondering if there's another girl you're hiding while this thing goes on. And before you decide not to answer, I don't want you, or the crown. I'm asexual, and even if I wanted the power I would just feel trapped in the marriage, so you can confide in me as a friend. And I'd be happy to serve you as a loyal subject the best I could."
The boy sighed. "You promise with your life?"
"You're going to be an amazing king," Angelica nods. "I would never betray my prince's trust like that."
"There is no other girl," Jungkook looks her in the eye.
"Ah so it's a boy," Angelica looks smug. "I knew you weren't straight!"
"Yes...you are correct," Jungkook nods his head, almost impressed. "I'm bisexual, and I love my Fairy, so if you think you can hurt him, or me with this secret, I will charge you with treason and you will spend the rest of your life in prison."
"I have no intention of it," Angelica puts her hands up. "On the contrary, I think it's very courageous that you and your 'Fairy' whoever that is, continue a relationship even through a celebrated event where you're supposed to find a wife."
"I-I never thought of it that way," Jungkook was a bit flustered at her statement. "I always thought of it as being too selfish to let go."
"Wanting happiness isn't selfish Jungkook," Angelica put her hand on his. "If there's anything I can do to help, I'd be honored to serve my future king."
"Actually, with your help now, as long as you're sworn to secrecy," Jungkook gives her a pointed look. "There is a way you could help so I could marry him. Now, hear me out..."
*
Jungkook dragged the butler-who just so happened to be walking in the halls- to the nearest parlor. Once they were behind closed doors, the prince brought him into a kiss, giggling even as their lips met. Jimin pulled away, confusion obvious.
"Why are you in such a good mood?" Jimin grinned.
"Do you wanna get married?"
"What!?" Jimin shrieked. "When? H-how? Y-you wanna get married to me?" He embraced the younger quickly, impact making Jungkook step back. This was the first time Jungkook truly felt Jimin was really happy being with him and it made his chest warm.
"Yes of course I do Fairy," Jungkook put his forehead on the smaller's, tone implying it was the most obvious thing in the world. "We can't have the wedding for a few more months though. I have to fake a wedding with one of the Selected girls first."
"Y-you're marrying a Selected girl?" Jimin stutters, still in shock, and very confused.
"No of course not," Jungkook pet the back of Jimin's head, trying to calm him from all of the crazy emotions he was feeling. "I'm only pretending to so the country thinks I did. The girl has no feelings for me, she's asexual, and she's promised to keep everything a secret between us. You and I will really get married, you will be the new crowned prince and future king of Illéa, and in time, everyone will know that."
"Wh-what about producing an heir?" The butler whispers, almost inaudible.
"Surrogate," The prince answers immediately. "I will have to kiss her once, the Selected girl, for the wedding though. Can you bear that?"
"Jungkook you planned this out all for me, I love you for this," Jungkook felt like flying as he heard those three words. "If one kiss means I can spend the rest of my life with you then I can deal with it."
"Jiminie I love you too," Jungkook can't help but be emotional. "Don't ever forget that."
"I won't."
A/N: I got a longer one for you! I hope you like it. I don't know where 'fairy' came from, it just did and my brain was like, "Okay bitch, let's just roll with it" I swear I'm someone different when i write. I never use the words; producing, inquired, dazzling, radiant,
In real life I'm like "Bro this is what happens and let me talk about myself :)"
I'm not a formal person. I just do whatever I want.
Today I went to something called the Family Fun Center, which was in fact pretty fun. I played mini golf and laser tag, so I guess that's what you call a successful school field trip.
Have a good day!
