Chapter 1

I faded in and out of sleep as I heard quiet giggles that started to wake me up. I blinked a few times, my mouth dry. Confusion washed over me and I let out a small whine. That only caused more giggles and I rubbed my eyes. I looked and saw Cherry and Lily standing over me as I slept on the couch, my phone in their hands as they kept taking pictures.

"Wh-what?" I mumbled.

"You're awake!" Cherry exclaimed.

I took my phone from her hand and gasped when I saw they had taken over a thousand pictures together.

"Wow," I muttered. "Have you two been having fun then?"

Lily giggled and nodded.

"Alright, where's mommy?" I asked.

"Mommy took Gee Bee to the doctor's," Cherry said.

"Wait, what time is it?" I asked.

"I can't read, Daddy," Lily said.

"Yes you can," I said, going to the kitchen to look at the clock.

It turns out that I had slept for a few hours and there was a note on the fridge.

You looked so cute asleep so I left you there while I went to take Gee to his appointment. We'll be home soon

-Jamia xo

I smiled softly and took the note down.

"Daddy, my tummy was rumblin'," Cherry said.

I opened up the fridge and bit my lip before handing them both packages of string cheese, helping them open it. They ate at the table the table happily and I yawned, running a hand through my hair.

"Is Miles upstairs?" I asked.

The girls nodded and I went up to his room. I found him sitting at his desk with my laptop playing a video game.

"How long have you been on the computer?" I asked.

"Not long," he said.

"You should come out of your room and play outside," I said.

"I'm busy," he said.

"Can you pause that?" I asked.

"It's online, Dad," Miles said. "You can't pause."

I sighed, walking downstairs when I heard a car pull up to the driveway. I smiled and opened the front door as Gee ran up to me. I smiled, giving him a hug.

"Hey, sweetheart," I said.

"Hi, Daddy," Gee said. "I gotted a lollipop from the doctor."

"Really?" I asked. "That's cool, what flavor was it?"

"Red flavor, Daddy," he said.

I smiled, kissing his cheek. Jamia was grabbing grocery bags from the car and I hurried over to help her. I gave her a kiss and she smiled.

"Hey, Baby, I missed you," I said.

"How long have you been awake?" She asked.

"Not long," I admitted. "The girls took my phone and took a bunch of pictures."

"They love doing that," she said.

I smiled, giving her another kiss.

"I love you," I said. "How'd Gee's appointment go?"

She sighed. "Well, his weight is okay. They were worried about him becoming obese and getting diabetes because that's kind of common with undernourished children. But that seems to be okay. But the doctor is thinking about getting him glasses to wear when he's watching tv and reading. And there is a deficiency of fluids and electrolytes in his kidney, which isn't good."

I looked down sadly and she held my hand.

"It's gonna be okay," she said.

We both knew that we weren't going to outlive Gee and both of us never wanted to see the day where he passed.

"Yeah, it is," I said. "We're gonna give him a good life, right?"

Jamia smiled sadly and nodded. I helped her bring the groceries in and set them on the counter.

"But other than the kidney thing he's okay?" I asked.

"Yeah, seems to be," she said. "He thankfully didn't develop diabetes, that's one of the things I was worried about most."

"But he definitely hates it when we restrict his diet," I said.

Jamia nodded, putting the groceries away.

"Mommy, can you color with me?" Gee asked. "I gots my pwincess book!"

"I will color with you in just a minute, Sweetheart," she said.

Gee sat down at the table, waiting patiently with his crayons and a big smile on his face.

"He's a lot better behaved now," I remarked. "The psychologist must be pretty good."

"Better be, we pay her more than enough," Jamia scoffed.

Gee was seeing an educational psychologist, so to speak. She did research on children who were behind others in their age groups. Gee not only fit that bar but exceeded to the point where she and everyone else was fascinated. They had all dreamed of having someone like Gee for their hypothesis but creating their own would be inhumane and there aren't many other kidnap victims like Gee. But Gee has appointments with her every week and she tries to help him not only psychologically to return to a normal state but also tries reaching him the simpler things you'd learn in school. So far Gee isn't very good at either of them.

"When the research is done we'll get paid quite a bit of money," I said. "But come on, this is for our son, it doesn't matter how much money goes into it."

"I know," she said, glancing at Gee sadly. "I just wish that he was getting helped a little bit more in ways more than just behavior."

I nodded, giving her a kiss.

"Go and color, I'll finish up with the groceries," I said.

Jamia smiled and sat next to Gee at the table. I put the groceries into cupboards where they belonged before I put the empty grocery bags into another grocery bag I had hanging from the door to the pantry.

"Miles is upstairs on my laptop playing video games," I said.

Jamia nodded, watching Gee debate between what color to make the dress.

"Mama, we're gonna have a colorful dress so you get purple and I'll get blue and we'll color it colorful," Gee finally decided.

Jamia smiled and kissed his cheek.

"Mommy stop, I'm concentwating," Gee said as he colored carefully.

I looked around for the twins, who had suddenly gone missing. I found them downstairs trying to play with my guitars.

"What are you two rascals up to?" I asked.

"We're gonna be you when we grow up, Daddy!" Lily cheered.

She tried to pick up my guitar but it was bigger than her and she toppled over, the guitar falling on her and the head of it hit her forehead. I scooped her up into my arms when she began to cry, kissing her forehead.

"Oh, sweetheart, it's okay," I said.

She sniffled and looked up at me with teary eyes. I held her on my hip, putting my guitar back into place on its stand.

"Hold me too," Cherry said.

I sighed and leaned down, picked her up to hold her on my other hip. I carried them both upstairs with a small groan. They still loved being carried but as they got bigger it began to get harder on me. But they were five years old now and I was the proud father of rambunctious twin girls.

"Oh, what happened?" Jamia asked as I walked into the kitchen and set both of them done onto the island.

"Lily tried carrying my guitar but fell over and it hit her on the head," I said.

I looked at the red spot on her head and sighed.

"Well, you're not bleeding so you should be fine," I said.

I grabbed an ice pack from the fridge and carried her over to lay her down on the couch, putting the ice pack on her head.

"Just lay down, sweetheart," I said.

Lily sniffled and Cherry grabbed the remote to turn on the tv and cuddle with her sister.

"She okay?" Jamia asked.

"Yeah, she'll probably just have a little bruise or something," I said. "It wasn't bad."

I sat down across from them, looking at their little princess they were drawing.

"Daddy, Do you like?" Gee asked.

"I do, it's a beautiful princess," I said.

"I want a kissy," he said.

I smiled and leaned over to kiss his cheek. Gee giggled happily and stood up. He ran away and I frowned in confusion.

"Where's he going?" I asked.

"Beats me," Jamia replied.

He came back with Sebastian and held him out to me.

"Seb Seb wants a kiss too," he said.

I smiled and gave Sebastian a kiss.

"Sebby wants a kiss from Mommy too," he said.

She smiled and gave his stuffie a kiss. Gee smiled and also gave his toy a kiss.

"Now he just needs kissies from my sisters and brother," he said.

Gee walked away and I smiled at his attire. He was wearing a bright yellow shirt with a dark purple skirt, one pink thigh high sock and a yellow knee high sock.

"Did he dress himself?" I asked.

"He insisted on it," Jamia said.

"He's such a cutie," I said.

"Yeah, I'm glad that he's our son and we get to have him here in our lives," She said.

"Well, I think that he's done coloring now," I stated, putting his crayons back into the box they belonged to.

I cleaned his stuff up and went to go check on Lily. She was sniffling as she watched tv, holding the ice pack to her head.

"Daddy, I wanna sit on your lap," she said.

I smiled and sat on the couch. She curled up in my lap and I smiled down at her.

"I say that we order a pizza for dinner and we just spend all night watching movies together as a family," Jamia suggested.

"I think that sounds perfect," I agreed.

She ordered a pizza while I carried Lily upstairs to Miles' room.

"Come downstairs, we're gonna watch some movies and eat pizza," I said.

"No, I don't want to," he denied.

"Come on, we're gonna have some family time," I said.

"Gonna watch movies, Miles," Lily said.

"I don't want to watch movies," he denied.

I shut my laptop and he gasped.

"I was in the middle of a match!" He exclaimed.

"Come on, we're gonna have family time, Miles," I said. "You've been on your games all day."

"Dad—"

"Your mom and your brother and sisters want to hang out with you," I said.

"She's not my mom and he's not my brother," Miles pouted. "And they're only half-sisters."

"Come on, you're gonna spend time with us," I said.

"Daddy, what's a half-sister?" Lily asked.

Miles finally came downstairs with us and we spend nearly twenty minutes just arguing over what movie to watch. But finally we chose something and soon enough the sun had set as it grew late.

I looked around with a small smile, the lights were off and the quiet tv lit up the room. Lily was curled up asleep on my lap, Cherry was asleep on my right shoulder and Jamia was asleep on my left. On the couch couch Miles and Gee were cuddled up sleeping together. Miles had protested Gee's cuddles but after he fell asleep Gee cuddled with him. The two under a blanket and Gee had a small smile on his face.

I smiled softly as I looked around at my family. My life couldn't be any more perfect than it is now.
