Chapter 32
I hide behind a plaster pillar, checking for guards. Once the coast was clear, I run down the hall, with TLo shortly behind me. I glide down the hall without a sound. It was weird, because I had been wearing small heeled shoes this whole time, and know the pad of my foot was flat. It was nice.
"Stop spacing out, Jemma. One wrong move, and we'll be dead." TLo reminds me.
"Right, sorry." I say, and turn a corner at the end of the hall. I start to walk again, and ran right into something. But when I looked up, there was nothing there. "Hello?" I whisper.
"Hi." TLo answers.
"No, not you. I just ran into something. Hm, weird." I say, continuing on. I set my hand on the wall, listening. Suddenly, an alarm goes off.
"The prisoners have escaped. Every man on board." a woman says over an intercom. "Repeat: The prisoners have escaped. Every man on board."
"Oh, no." I whisper, hearing footsteps marching ahead. "Um, in here!" I say, dragging TLo my the collar of his shirt, opening a random door, and throwing us inside. It turned out to be a cleaning supplies storage closet, so it was pretty cramped. I hear a hand take ahold of the doorknob, and sweat starts to form on my forehead.
"Fernando, that's just a storage closet. No room for two kids in that." a man says outside.
"Oh, okay." the man says, walking away. I sigh a breath of relief.
"That was unbelievably close." I say, standing up. I look down at TLo, and he had his eyes fixed on something on the ceiling. He looked horrified.
"What's the matter?" I ask.
"Um, that black thing on the ceiling. What do you think it is?" he asks. I look up into the corner where he was staring, and it seemed to be a black dot, with accents of blue here or there. The blue moves, and I step back and curse to myself.
"It's a security camera." I say.
"Why couldn't we have thought of that before we went on a suicide mission?" he asks.
"I dunno-"
Someone picks up on the intercom again, "Hello." It was the king, "I would like to let Jemma, wherever she's hiding, know that we have her little redhead friend with us. Come out of your hiding spot in ten minutes, or she'll be dead." he says, "And in case you don't believe me-" he stops for a moment, walking somewhere, "Hello? Jemma? TLo? Don't help me. Save yourselves, please. R-Ro, he and my sister are both gone. And I couldn't do anything to help them. Escape, be free, go to a different dimension-" Ali says, but the intercom shuts off before she could finish.
"Idiot," I mumble, "saying you don't want to be saved gives me all the more purpose to save you."
"What did you say? Whatever. What are we going to do?" he asks.
"It's dangerous out there, we've got to be careful. You turn into a bug, and sneak into the potion room. It's five doors down on the right. There should be a bottle that looks like black and purple clouds, that's the nuclear one. Bring it to the throne room, where I'll get Ali. I'm guessing she won't be able to walk too well, so I'll take the potion, and you and her get the heck out of here. I'll get a weapon somewhere, so don't worry about me." I explain, and he nods. I open the door of the storage room, and we run our separate ways.
