Chapter 30
I open my eyes to find myself locked up in a cell. The ground was a cold stone, and the metal bars blocking me in were old and rusty. A beetle waddles awkwardly along the wall, until it starts shifting into TLo.
"Morning, sunshine." he says.
"This is some sort of joke." I say, and he shakes his head. "Can't we get out? The bars here look pretty old. I bet if I could just kick it down-" I say, kicking the bar. It sends a shock through my system, leaving the pads of my fingertips numb.
"We're locked in by magic." he says, sitting at the foot of an old prisoner's bed.
"Ugh. You could've told me before I kicked the electric barrier." I say, sliding down the wall too sit down.
"You looked so determined, I had to." he says, smiling.
My head felt fuzzy for a moment. "You looked so peaceful, I had to do it!" he says, choking on laughter.
"That could have killed me! That is electrical, you know!" I yell.
Noah.
I start to feel my heart beating in my chest, so I take a few deep breaths. "You know, you act a lot older than you age." I say.
"I get that a lot. Jaime always used to tell me I'm a teenager stuck in a kid's body." he says, and mumbles something else so I couldn't hear.
"What?" I ask.
"Oh, it's nothing. Anyway, I'm pretty sure Ali's in the one next to us." he says.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Well, Ali took down her umbrella, and the two guards holding you dropped you, so I'm sure your bruised somewhere. Since Char can only be affected on the right side by her power, she ended up getting the same shot as you. And then they came after me," he hesitates, "Well, I just gave in, since there was no place else to go." he says, half-smiling.
"Why didn't you just turn into a bird and fly away or something?" I ask.
"Because I don't want to give away my power like that." he says, itching his head.
"I go insane twice, and no one can let me live that down." I say.
"Nope!" he says, laughing.
"Well, speaking of Ali, where did she go?" I ask.
He frowns, "She's over there." he says, pointing at the cell across from us. She was tied upside-down with iron chains, and her eyes were covered with a black cloth. She seemed to have lost consciousness.
"Alyanna!" I yell, but she doesn't move. "Gr!" I yell, kicking the wall.
"We're going to get out tonight, though. 'The King' says he knows what he wants to do with me and Allyanna. I don't know what he's decided for you." he says, frowning.
"Where's Ro?" I ask.
"I don't know. He says he's human, and they gave him the shot. So-" he says, and I cover my mouth with my hand, trying not to cry out.
"So is he-"
"Dead? I don't know. At the moment, I haven't heard anything." he says.
"How did you wake up before everyone else?" I ask.
"Well, the shot didn't affect me as much as it affected you two. Probably because I'm completely Unknown, and you're half human." he says.
"Well, Char is half human, but only one of her eyes turns red. So doesn't that mean I'm something other than human?" I ask.
"I have no clue. I don't have a good feeling about her, either. I know she works for the government and that makes her evil, but I don't think she became Unknown like the rest of us did." he says.
"Like some sort of black magic?" I ask, and the sound of a squeaky metal door follows. Footsteps walk closer and closer to our cells, and my hands start to tremble. A man walks up, his skin as dark as his brown army-cut hair.
"You two need to come with me." says his deep voice.
"What about her?" TLo asks.
"Shut up and get walkin." he says, opening the cell.
We walk down the corridor, to the open door, where another soldier stands. This one had pale skin, and light red hair. He walks ahead of us. When we step out, I was surprised to be inside a building that was just like the government building in Jaylemm.
"You guys don't like to change things up, don't you?" I ask, and the man behinds us grunts. We walk to another door, this one made of gold. Engraved in it was a picture of a chimera, and I try not to scream.
The pale man ahead of us opens the door, and inside was the brightest room I had ever seen. A red carpet led up to a throne, and guards lined the outsides. In the throne sat a man around his thirties, with brown hair. His sad green eyes looked into mine, and suddenly, I was lightheaded.
I heard the sound of children laughing, and it kept getting louder and louder. Black and purple clouds of smoke surround me, and I couldn't breath. Trees were dead, planted in dry black soil. Their branches so fair, they would disintegrate with a single touch. Two small girls, me and Charlotte, lay on the ground. I sit up, looking around rapidly.
"Carlotte? Where are we? Charlotte!" little me screams, and a black hole emerges from her feet, she grabs onto the soil, trying to get back to the surface. Charlotte's eye opens slightly, and little me smiles in relief as she fell.
"Jemma." the man in the throne says.
My face falls into a blank expression, "It's been awhile, hasn't it?"
"Jemma? What's going on?" TLo asks.
I frown, looking into his evil expression, "Hello, father."
