Chapter 18

Who was this girl? She was quite frankly crazy, and I'm not sure if I should run or stay put. I stay put.
"So, Aly, are you going to keep following me?" I ask her.
She nods, smiling happily.
Well, I guess I can't really go home right now.
"Where do you want to go?" I ask.
"Um, dunno. Wherever you wanna go!" She says.
"I don't really know any places that are safe." I say.
"Hm. Well let's go somewhere exciting!" She says. My brain takes over, and instantly I think of Perin. Of course I think of Perin.
"I think I know a place I want to take you." I say.
"Okay! Where?" She asks. I point north, and her face drains color.
"We can't go there, I'm afraid." She says.
"Why not?" I ask.
"Can we go somewhere private?" She asks.
"Um, sure." I say, looking around at the  people dropping dead. I lead her to my apartment, realizing that the people there might die. I halt to a stop.
"What's the matter?" She asks.
"Is there any way you can control your power?" I ask.
"Uh, kind of." She says.
"How?" I ask.
"My umbrella. If I cover it over my face like this, a couple people in the area stay alive." She says.
"A couple? Well, I guess that'll have to be good enough." I say, continuing to lead her to my apartment, as she covers her face.
I walk down the cobble path, holding Aly's hand so she wouldn't fall behind. Her heel gets stuck in two rocks, causing her to fall. She stands back up, wiping any dirt on her pink dress off.
"Here we are." I announce. "This is probably the most secretive place we can talk." I walk inside, and there was no sign of the counterman. We walk up four flights of stairs to my room. I quickly catch my breath before unlocking the door. The room was clean, just the way I left it. I don't know, but I just keep getting paranoid that it will get broken into.
"This is my home." I say, walking in and sitting on the couch.
"Very homey. Thank you for letting me enter." She says, stepping in.
"Okay, um, you want anything?" I ask.
"Tea would be nice. Though I don't care what kind." She says, holding her hand up, and a box appears on it.
"Here, you can use this." She says, holding the box out in front of her.
I take it and set it on the counter. I open the lid, and teacups with a matching teapot sat there. They had hand painted roses on them.
I boil water on the stove, and put the mix inside. To be completely honest, I didn't even like tea.
I sat the cups and pot on a tray, and set them on the coffee table. Aly seemed to have chosen to sit in the rocking chair, so I sit back on the couch. I pour tea into both cups.
"Okay, I'm about to spill my heart out, so promise you'll do the same after I finish?" She asks, and I reply with a nod.
"Okay. Well, I'll start from the beginning. My mom was Jaylemnian and my dad was from Perin. They didn't live long enough to tell me how that was even possible, since Perins eat humans. I was ten when they died. We were outside at night, walking back to our house in Perin. That's when my power first took action." she said, taking a sip of tea. "My eyes were itchy, and I couldn't stop rubbing them. I remember it hurting so bad, and me crying so much, and thinking, why me?"
She wasn't sad or happy now. I couldn't tell what emotion she was feeling actually.
"My parents came closer even though I told them to run away. They wanted to help. They never deserved this." she says, tears building up in her eyes.
"What happened?" I ask.
"You have to be five yards away from me in order to stay safe. Even if you're five yards away, you can still get really sick." she says. I figured out the outcome, now.
"They died because of me." she starts, letting her bangs fall in front of her eyes. "Yes, they did. We did! Because of you!" she yells at herself.
"Stop!" I yell, sitting her back on the chair.
She lets herself fall back. "My sister was included in that day. she was right beside me. The first to go."
"I'm so sorry-"
"She possesses me." she interrupts.
"What?" I ask. At this point, I thought she was just crazy. But to think about it, those sudden bursts of anger, it makes sense.
"It's unfair that I had to die because of it. It's just good reasoning!" she yells.
"Well, okay. What your- er, her name?" I ask.
"It's Luna. You got a problem with that?" she says.
"No, that doesn't even make any sense." I say.
"What's two plus two?" she asks.
"None of your business." I say.
"Hm. Fine, I like her. Go back to drinking your whatever." she says.
"You think I'm crazy now, don't you?" she whispers.
"We're all crazy in our own special way." I say, smiling.
"Thanks for having me," she says, standing again, "But I think I should leave."
She walks to the doorway, and stands for a minute.
"You don't have to leave," I say, getting off the couch. She runs up and hugs me.
"This is the second time you've done this." I say.
"And it's not the last!" she says, giggling.
