Just then Jason was shaken out of his thoughts by the sound of the front door shutting. He felt Dick flinch within his sleep and Jason pulled him tighter in his hold.

"I got you, you're safe'' whispered Jason and he could feel the tension in Dick's body fade slightly away.

Jason waited as he listen to the sound of foot steps coming his way, then the doors to the living room opening up.
"Jason?" questioned a voice that Jason had come to both learn from and love.

"Hey Bruce" said Jason who leaned his head back to see his adoptive father walk farther into the room.

"Who's this?" questioned Bruce and Jason sighed. He reached over for the remote controller and turned the TV off and sitting there in silence for a good moment of time, as the questioned Bruce just asked bounced around in his mind.

Who was Dick to him? Who was Dick as a person?

Jason then felt Bruce's eyes on him and he shook his head and looked up at him, realizing that he never answered his question. "This is Dick, he is new to school and he's mu friend'' said Jason.

"Are you sure that's all there is?" questioned Bruce and Jason glanced over at Dick, he honestly didn't know if there was more to it or not, could there be...maybe, who knows. Jason just nodded his head and heard Bruce give an okay before his foot steps began to fade away.

"Bruce!" called out Jason, stopping Bruce from fully leaving the living room. "There's something I got to tell you'' said Jason and inhaled sharply before spilling everything out to Bruce about Dick.
Bruce sat there the whole time, just listening and taking all the information in about the young boy sleeping on his son's shoulder.

After awhile Bruce stood up to leave the room but Jason reached out and grabbed Bruce's wrist, stopping him in his track.
"What are you going to do now?" questioned Jason. Bruce glanced down at Jason and inhaled sharply before patting Jason on the shoulder.

"Everything I can," said Bruce "I promise you that.''

Jason nodded his head and watched Bruce leave and head towards his study.

Only like three minutes after Bruce left Dick jumped awake, slightly panting from a bad dream he was having. Jason rubbed small circles on Dick's back trying to calm him down somewhat.

"It's alright Dick, you're safe'' said Jason.

Dick's eye met Jason's and for a moment they both got lost within each other's gaze before Dick turned his head and pushed himself off and away from Jason. Dick wrapped his arms tightly around himself with his head bent downwards.

"I have t-to go'' said Dick almost silently. Jason nodded his head and slowly stood up, he didn't want Dick to go, he wanted him here and safe.

The car ride all the way towards Dick's foster home was complete silent. Jason sat next to Dick but Dick didn't say or even look at him, his ocean blue eyes locked on the the window, watching everything go by quickly, which he feared would happen with his and Jason's friendship.

As soon as the car stop, Dick let out a shaky breath and glanced up at Alfred and whispered a tiny thank you before looking over at Jason. He could completely see the concern held within both Jason's and Alfred's eyes but he knew that there was nothing they could do for him.
This was his life.

"I'll see you later'' said Dick as Alfred slowly opened up the door for him. Dick could feel a slight hesitation coming from Alfred as he opened the door, which was the only thing at the moment standing between him and pain that awaited him.

Dick's eyes met Jason's one last time before he turned and quickly made it up the stairs. As soon as he got to the top step, the front door flew open and the man Jason saw before stood there. Dick's foster father.

Jason so baldly wanted to get out of the car and punch that low life a million times for hurting someone as sweet and kind as Dick was. Dick glanced back over his shoulder for one second and Jason could read his eyes as clear as day.

He was scared.

His foster father reached forward, grabbed a hold of Dick's shoulder and yanked him inside the house, slamming the door loudly behind. Jason inhaled sharply and looked over at Alfred who wore a small frown upon his face.

"You worthless brat!" Dick's foster father screamed at him. He punched Dick in the gut and face a few times, then he spit on him.

"You don't deserve to live!" he screamed as he shoved Dick into the wall, knocking over the lap. Dick's eyes widen, he knew that he was going to be punished for the lap breaking now even though it wasn't his fault.

"You piece of shit!" yelled his foster dad as his large hands went around Dick's neck. He lifted Dick's small form off the ground, Dick's hands went straight to his neck, clawing at his foster dad's hands desperately.

He couldn't breathe.
The grip grew stronger as his lungs screamed for oxygen.

The edges of Dick's vision started to go black and his movements became sluggish. He pulled desperately at the hands but he knew that it was pointless. Dick kicked out with his legs as his foster father laughed in his face.

Suddenly, Dick was dropped to the ground where he drew in quick breaths of air his lungs craved for. He then was kicked in the chest causing all the air he just drew in out of his lungs. Dick gasped in pain and fell to the ground holding his side as he laid there panting,

The kicks kept coming and coming over and over again.

Crack!
Crack!

"Ahhhh" Dick screamed out in pain as pain exploded throughout his body. His foster father reached down and grabbed Dick by his hair, lifting him a bit off the ground.

"Worthless little fucker'' he said before Dick was tossed into the wall. He laid there still, crumpled on the cold wooden floor as he watched his foster father go and grab a beer and head up the stairs as the edges of his vision darken.

"I'm sorry mami and tati that I'm not strong enough'' thought Dick as darkness enveloped him.
