Jason's POV~
"The fifth cohort?" I ask. I'm clearly confused, I ask a lot of questions when I'm confused.
"Yeah, there's six cohorts all together. The most important is the first. Then the second, then the third, and so on. I'm putting you in the fifth cohort of the twelfth legion." Dakota said it all so fast I had to think about it for a while. I needed time for my brain to process what he just said.
"Who else is here? Can I meet them?" I'm still asking questions.
"Yeah, sure Jason. Let me check if they're in here..." His voice trailed off as he motioned for me to follow him inside. There was someone sitting on one of the beds.
"Michael? I'd like you to meet Jason Grace. Unknown parent." Michael held out his hand. I took it. He had a firm grip and a very serious expression on his face. Not like an angry face, but more like a bored, "I don't care" look.
"Michael Varus. Former praetor. You give me respect, I'll give you respect. You insult me, I do something to you." Then, he got up and walked away.
I guess I looked kind of startled because Dakota said to me, "Don't worry, he doesn't hate you. I'll make sure he doesn't beat you up, and he's had a rough past. So don't do anything that might upset him. By the way, I'm Senior Centurion." He smiled and let me meet some other people.
Dakota introduced me. "Gwen, this is Jason. Jason, Gwen." She smiled. A smile felt good after my encounter with Michael. Gwen seemed so much nicer than that Michael. What had happened to him?

Sorry for such a short chapter, but I was determined to finish this chapter today, and I did. Or now, at least. It's not 'today' anymore. CLIFFHANGER! Sorry. Next chapter will be good. The chapters might be a little short from now on. Might be.
