Iris.

Iris was born to Thaumus and Electra, gods of sea and sky. Being the gods, they were vested upon with so much responsibility. And when Iris was born, Thaumus and Electra feared they won't be able to spend enough time and care towards Iris. And it was essential for Iris, supposed to be the messenger of gods, to be well disciplined and educated. Thaumus thus decided to lead his child through a array of restrictions and rules. He made a tower deep down the sea and sent Iris there with her personal tutor. Iris was given every possible luxury and she was free to lay her hands on whatever struck her mind. The tower was beautified by a massive garden in the front with lots of sea anemones, zoo planktons and other beautiful flora. She grew up playing with fishes, jellies, turtles and what not. Meanwhile, she was being trained in warfare, Society and discipline. Thaumus and Electra came to the tower whenever they got free from work. They showered her with love and care.

Years passed, little Iris turned out to be a very beautiful and intelligent woman. Beautiful would be a modest adjective for her.

Time had come for her to go out to the world, and fulfill her duties. Electra was not at all happy about this. She feared her daughter will go astray, will hangout with irresponsible boys, and defame her and her husband in front of the Society. Also, she didn't want to get detached from her only daughter. Thaumus, but dealt the situations like the mature God he is. Although it pained him to stay away from his daughter, he understood it was her duty, and even she dreamed of adoring the war grounds one day.
They sent Iris to learn higher techniques of warfare, where she will actually be fighting in those bloody grunds.

Iris was nonetheless excited. Finally, she will get away from all these restrictions and see the world her aquatic friends told her about. However, leaving her parents did pain her. She loved them a lot. And she had grown so dependent on them that she was anxious how she will manage alone.

Finally the D Day came. And she was off to the new school. She was spellbound, seeing the world before her. There were handsome gods, friendly goddesses and mind blowing curriculum.

During the schooling years, she met Arke, Aello, Calaeno and Ocypete who became her friends for life. Arke was like a twin sister to her. They fought together. And the day came, when they would be bestowed with their duties. They will come to know what authority they would be given.
It was like the graduation ceremony. All of them were excited. Everyone's parents had come. Iris met Thaumus and Electra after four long years. Their eyes welled up with tears, seeing how much their little girl had grown up. Thaumus still remembered those days when she will jump out of the sea anemones and tries to scare them. The little Iris never knew the anemones were so transparent, they could see her from a distance. But still every single time,he pretended to get scared and laughed at her happy giggles. Even Electra went through an ocean of memories. Whenever Electra was home, Iris .....ed that she told her stories. But she wouldn't listen to stories of fairytales or the ones of animals. She always preferred tales of warfare, even as a little girl of 7 years. And now she is going to be the protagonist of the childhood stories she listened. Electra couldn't be more happier.

The ceremony began. Everyone was given their titles except a few.
"Now we would like to present the most important titles to the 10 most talented kids of the school who amazed the Choir of Gods with their astounding skills in the warfield as well as in intellectual tests....
Zephyros - God of West wind...

A smart handsome guy stood up and went to the stage. Iris couldn't take her eyes off him. He looked so.... Ravishing. Throughout her schooling, she had seen so many Gods. Some even proposed to her,but her eyes were always on one thing, and that was warfield, her first love. During the ceremony also, she prayed she would get a title which will keep her in the warfields. The touch of sword excited her than the princess tiara. And this is the first time her focus shifted to someone else and that was Zephyros. It wasn't love at first sight. Seeing him, some electric current went through her body. He was on the stage far away from her, yet she got butterflies in her stomach. And that moment, Zephyros decided to set his eyes on her. Their eyes met, and some secret message was sent. His eyes were so captivating, she couldn't look away. Finally, after some nanoseconds, which seemed like years to her, he looked at the title in front of him. He got down the stage and sat in his place. And frantically turned around, in search of that goddess of beauty, who took his heart away in one glance. As he laid his eyes upon her, he knew this wasn't some fling, and this was something to last forever.

Zeus - God of sky.
The massive dominating figure of Zeus adorned the stage. His each step was like a thunderbolt, the one who, in the coming years would overpower his father and become the supreme ruler of Gods.

Names were called upon, except hers. She was getting anxious and agitated at the same time.

Iris,
.
..
...

Hearing her name, her heart skipped a beat.
.

.

Goddess of rainbow.

She was clearly disappointed. Goddess of rainbow? What is she supposed to do? Colour the sky, everytime after the rain? She wanted to do something more, more.... Dignified, significant.
Thaumus saw her face change and he knew why. He wanted to tell her, in the time to come, she will be living her dream, in the Warfields. But no, he is given the gift to see future, but with a faith that he won't interfere between Present and future.

With dashed hopes, she went onstage and took the title. With a fake, yet weak smile, she got down and went back to her seat. From afar, amidst the audience two eyes saw through her facade. And surprisingly, he knew he would be bringing back the smile soon and the times to come.

After ther ceremony was over, every graduated student went about congratulating each other.

Arke became the messenger of Gods. All others Aello, Calaeno, and Ocypete became harpies, and were vested the power of maintaining peace and punishing the defaulters. They all were talking how excited they were to start working. That is when Zephyros decided to face Iris. He went over to the small group, heart beating wildly. Iris was silent than usual. She looked up and saw Zephyros coming. She threw a warm weak smile at him.

'Are you okay?'

Without a Hi or any formal introduction, and not even a glance towards bystanders, the unexpected question shook her off. His eyes made contact hers. And once again, she was captivated.

'Yes. Hello to you too. ' Finally she managed to utter.

He chuckled. Then he turned towards her friends who were astounded by his action.
' Hi and congratulations all of you.'

'Same to you, Lord of West wind.' Arke replied with a coy smile.

Zephyros either ignored it or clearly missed it. He turned again towards Iris.

'If you don't mind, can we take a walk?'

She looked for her parents. They had gone. Obviously, work was more important. But at least she could talk to this guy without being cautious.

'Yeah sure. Arke, call me when you are leaving. Will be back soon. Bye.'

They walked towards the Choir of Gods park, which was so beautifully maintained. Filled with roses, chrysanthemums and many more beautiful flowers, she didn't even know the name, they had huge green bushes in the shape of each God in the Choir.
Till then, the walk had been so silent. She didn't get any topic to start with.

'If you are meant for the field, you will end up there.'

Out of nowhere, Zephyros said these words. Startled she looked at him.
She understood what he was talking about. But she didn't get how he knew.

He chuckled a little.
Gosh! One more chuckle, and I will be falling for this guy. She thought to herself.

'Even I don't know how I know. But I know. I feel like I have known you for years. And that is why I didn't even say a Hi.'

She kept silent.

'So back to the topic. As I said, If it's meant to be, it will be.'

'I don't see how I will be in the Warfield with this title unless there is a rain in between and I have to paont the sky.'

Zephyros laughed. Not a mere chuckle. He laughed so heartily, so loud.
Even Iris could not control, she started laughing.

Finally when the laugh died down, Zephyros said,
'I don't know if God created you looking at the mirror. '

She took a moment to understand what he said. But then she started blushing. So hard.

Years later,

The titanomachy happened.
The great series of war between Titans and Olympians, over the governance of the universe.
Titans included the older generation of Gods led by Cronus, father of Zeus and Olympians being the younger led by Zeus.
The war created great hustle round the world.
Iris was reigning as the Goddess of rainbow and she was actually liking her life. She and Zephyros realised they were meant to be together.

And with all requisite grandeur, Zephyros married Iris. Finally, Iris became Iris Zephyros.

Every thing was finally going good in her life until she was summoned by Zeus. Zeus had earned great power through the years and she knew he was revolting against his own father. How much ever unethical it may seem, she knew Cronus was a man deserved to be revolted. And if Zeus summoned her at this time of war,she was sure he needed her support in this.
Honestly, she didn't want to be a part of all this. Mainly because she will be fighting against her own father, since he clearly belonged to the Olympians.
Yet she knew this was a fight lost, she knew. Because if Zeus wanted her to fight, she has to. She don't have the might to say No.

And thus she went. When Zeus met her, she was greeted very warmly and courteously.

'Iris, I know this would be hard for you if I ask you to stand with us in the wars to ensue. I know the warm relation you share with your father and you would be on the other side of him.But to make things easy for you, Iris, I don't want you to wage a war. But be our messenger. That, you can do, I hope. '

She was flustered by his thoughtfulness. She always thought he was the dictating type.

'Yes Zeus. Thank you for understanding my dilemma. But I can be a messenger. That way, I make no harm to my father or his allies. But do you trust me enough even after knowing my close connection with another Olympian? '

'Thank you, Iris. Your help is much appreciated. I am waging this war against my father. And I know Thaumus. He is a respectable person. And I know the values he imparted to you is of Honesty and truthfulness. I doubt him not, and not his daughter either.'

'Zeus, you... You are a nice person. '

To this, he just smiled.

'Iris, you can join our army from tomorrow. Poseidon will enlighten you about your work.'

With this she bid her farewell.

The war happened. She, with the consent of her father, acted as the messenger of the Olympians.

But the disheartening incident happened when Arke decided to betray her own army and join the Titans.

Thus, after a long series of battles, finally Olympians won the war. The power of the universe came in the hands of Zeus. He divided them upon his two brothers. He took the sky, Poseidon was given the sea and Hades, the Underworld or the world of the dead.

The Olympians were rejoicing over their triumph while the Titans mulled over their defeat.
Iris, but, had mixed feelings.
She, an Olympian, may have wontm the war. And She was praised by everyone for her great messenger skills. But, her father.... He lost his title to Poseidon. And this was a heartbreak to her. At one point, she felt herself responsible for this.
Zephyros understood and tried to stop her from blaming herself. But he couldn't. He inferred she needed time. So he left the matter for the time being.

Later, one evening, Thaumus and Electra came to Iris. Iris greeted the unexpected guests and welcomed them inside. Thaumus stopped Iris.

'Dear, you are no reason for my state. I am an old man. And I have to eventually move out for the young to come forward. The war wouldn't have happened at all if Cronus had thought the same. And Poseidon respects me. He overthrew me, but with respect. That is what matters most to a God like me. So Iris, you need not live with this regret. '

Iris couldn't control her sobs. She fell into Thaumus' strong arms and cried.

Finally Zephyros joined the reunion and they lived happily ever after.
