Sweetest Devotion
August 26th, 1927.
Lake Como, Italy.
Amélie was applying her crimson red lipstick on as Queenie fixed the train of her dress and Tina pinned up her hair. Both girls were wearing navy blue dresses and looked already beautiful. "Are you nervous?" Asked Queenie when her eyes met Élie's through the mirror. The French woman smiled with happiness, she was beaming with it.
"I am." She confessed. "Ever since I woke up, I've had this knot of nerves in my ribs. But it's an oddly nice thrill." The Goldstein sisters smiled at her when someone knocked on the door. The three of them exchanged looks as Tina walked up to the door and opened it, poking her head out to look at the person on the other side, but avoiding them from looking in.
"Oh, come in." Said Tina and moved aside, allowing Lally and Aura, Theseus' mother, to walk in. Lally was wearing the same blue dress as the sisters while Aura was wearing a pastel pink dress, her hair perfectly curled above her shoulders.
"My goodness, Amélie." Aura exclaimed as Élie turned around to face her soon to be mother-in-law. The red haired witch smiled brightly at the woman, her blue eyes teary as she looked at the girl that had stolen Theseus' heart ever since he was a young boy. "You look beautiful." She added as her eyes scanned the white silk wedding dress Rosier was wearing.
It had very short sleeves that fell elegantly below her shoulders in pleats, the fabric was tight around her torso, but as it reached her hips, it began to fall loosely to form the short train of the dress; it was backless, although two straps formed an X shape on her back, the edge of the dress on the small of her back. Amélie's hair had been carefully pinned up, French style now that it was longer; she was wearing dangling pearl earrings that used to be her mother's which made her look a lot more elegant.
"Thank you, Aura." She said as the woman held Amélie's hand.
"This is for you." Mrs Scamander said, offering a small wooden box. Amélie's eyebrows furrowed as she gently took the box from her hands before she opened it. Inside, a simple but fancy oval sapphire being held by a white gold chain, a beautiful necklace. Amélie looked up at Aura with shock in her eyes.
"No. Aura, this...this is too—" Mrs Scamander's hand fell upon her own, stopping her words.
"Please." Élie blinked and Aura smiled at the incredulous face she had just made, acknowledging it had probably been years since Amlélie was gifted something this important. "It matches the ring. Killian, Theseus' father, he gave it to me months before he passed. It would mean a lot to me for you wear it. To have it." Amélie smiled as the older woman held her hands.
"Thank you." Aura smiled and nodded before hugging Amélie. Both had their eyes teary.
"Well," Aura cleared her throat. "I've checked on the guests and the groom, everyone's ready for you." The ladies nodded and Aura walked out. When she left, Amélie began to cry, but the girls helped in order to not let the tears ruin her makeup. Eventually, Rosier regained her composure and got fixed up. Soon, she was ready to go.
Outside and already waiting, Theseus found himself nervous on one side of the altar. His brown hair slick back, although he kept running his hand through his hair, messing it up as his blue anxious eyes looked at the guests that were sitting, patiently waiting for the ceremony to begin.
He let out a breath as he looked around the venue: the flowers were elegant red roses with baby breath, which were attached to the sides of the seats and adorned the aisle and its white carpet. On the opposite side of the aisle, an arch of the same flowers which he and Amélie would stand underneath in just a moment. The water of the lake shimmered underneath the evening's sunlight, causing the water to seem blue, green and orange.
"How are you holding up?" Asked Newt, the best man for the second time in less than a year. From his seat, Jacob waved at them and the Scamander siblings smiled as they waved back. Then, Mister Kowalski gave Theseus an encouraging pair of thumbs up, which Thes highly appreciated.
"Good. Good. I don't feel like throwing up. Not that much." Newt chuckled as Theseus fixed his bow tie. That's when their mother arrived with the officiant of the wedding, a man named Alfred Collins that worked at the Ministry. "Hi, Mister Collins."
"Theseus." They shook hands. "Congratulations, young man." The Scamander's smiled.
"Thank you." Alfred nodded as they let go of each other. They began to stand in line to walk down the aisle as the music started to play and the guests turned around as they were sitting down. The first one to walk was Alfred, when Thes looked over his shoulder as his mother hooked her arm with his, rubbing his arm with her thumb to provide comfort. Theseus saw Newt —his best man— right behind him, followed by Evan —the ring bearer and Amélie's best man—, the Goldstein sisters and Lally —the flower ladies—, and then Antoine Cotillard smiling at him.
Slowly, everyone walked down the aisle. Theseus stood on the left side of the aisle, waiting nervously for his soon-to-be-wife to walk down to him. The music played for a while, time in which Monsieur Cotillard went looking for Amélie. He found her peaking through the curtains that covered the glass doors that would open for her to walk out, fidgeting the bouquet of red roses with white daisies.
"Ready, dear?" He said to Élie, who turned around as she breathed in and out.
"Yes. I am." Antoine smiled at her, the redhead smiled back. "Thank you for this. It means a lot to me."
"I know. And it is my greatest honour." Amélie felt a lump forming in her throat, not because she was sad, it was because there were so many words of gratitude she'd like to speak.
"Thank you." Antoine nodded and approached Amélie, hooking her arm with his as they stepped before the door.
"Angelique would be very proud of her little girl." Amélie's eyes filled with tears as she nodded, slowly. "And there is no one she'd like you to get married to more than that boy. I think there's no one more worthy of you than him, and she would agree." Her tears rolled down her cheeks and Cotillard dried them away with the napkin of his blazer.
"Thank you. Do you think she's watching? From somewhere?"
"I'm sure she's standing right beside you as we speak." They smiled at each other and the music shifted as Élie let out a shaky breath.
"You wouldn't let me fall, would you?"
"Never." With a flick of his wand, Antoine opened the doors, revealing the bride. Every guest stood up and turned to look at her.
When Theseus looked up from the flowers nears his feet, the air was knocked out of his lungs at the sight of his beloved. Scamander's eyes teared up with each step Amélie took towards him, as he admired the way her dress flowed with the wind, the way she looked at him.
Amélie looked more beautiful than she has ever looked, she was glowing. The way her hair was arranged made the freckles on her shoulders pop and the makeup on her face accentuated her features, specially the glimmer of her green eyes. As Theseus' eyes released the excited tears that accumulated in them, Amélie began to cry as well, the sight of her lover suddenly overwhelming her.
As they closed in together, Theseus smiled at Élie like a little kid, narrowing his blue eyes that matched the glimmering water of the lake. She chuckled as Monsieur Antoine handed over her hand to Theseus, leaving a fatherly kiss on Rosier's cheek. Amélie kissed Cotillard's cheek back in a thanking manner and locked eyes with Theseus right after.
Then, their ceremony began. The guests sat down as the pair held hands after Amélie had given her bouquet of flowers to Evan, who was standing behind her fighting the urge to cry.
"Welcome, loved ones. Today, we find ourselves gathered here to celebrate the union between Amélie Angelina Rosier and Theseus Killian Scamander. This special occasion marks the beginning of their life together as a married couple. It is our privilege and great honour and joy to witness this union and celebrate their mutual love, respect, and commitment." Said Mr. Collins to their family, friends and guests before looking at the couple.
"Amélie and Theseus, you both know how to deal with darkness, as your jobs demands you to, but after today...neither of you shall fight the shadows alone, for you'll have each other to count on from this moment forward." With a wand movement, Mr. Collins made a white lace with sparkling golden threads that glimmered with the sunlight appear over their hands, a ribbon tying them together. "This day has been a long time coming. You came here as individuals, and today you will leave as one. Is it your intend to take each other's hand in marriage, facing life's triumphs and trials together as spouses?"
"Yes, we do." Amélie and Theseus spoke in unison.
"I understand you have written your vows," the pair nodded. "Miss Rosier, if you will." Amélie took a deep breath and nodded as she looked at Theseus and smiled.
"Mon amour," Theseus smiled at her, his eyes narrowing as he grinned. "It was all the way back in late November of 1910, seventeen years ago, that you stole my heart when you ran off to Honeydukes to buy me my favourite candy just because you had found out which candy I liked, missing fourth period." Everyone chuckled. "Seventeen years ago, I fell in love with you. Who would have guessed back then that we would be standing where we are today?"
"In a matter of seven years, we have seen the world fall and we have fought to put it back into place, made memories, friendships, loved and lost, healed and learned how to trust and love again. We've forged a trusting bond that will last a lifetime. And I can only imagine what we can achieve in the years to come."
"It's the small things about you that make you shine so brightly. I would say your smile is something I would wake up to a million times. But we both know it's the messy-hair, grumpy Thésée that truly shines when I'm pulling you out of bed in the morning." Theseus laughed, as well as the crowd.
"I'll forever be whatever you want me to be. I'll go under and all over for your clarity. When you wonder if I'm gonna lose my way home, just remember, that come whatever, I'll be yours all alone. You will only be eternally, the one that I belong to.I've often thought of houses to be an empty place until you slowly fill them up and create a home, but I've also realised that home can be a person. Someone who feels as bright and as warm as the sun. And you are my sun, Theseus. You, and your love, make me feel like home. And loving you feels like home." Theseus smiled at her. "My sweetest devotion, I promise to always be there for you. I'll trust you, care for you, but most of all, I will always love you." She finished reciting the vows she had memorised, vows she had written alongside her soon-to-be husband the day they arrived at Italy.
Theseus smiled at her brightly, blinking away emotive tears that easily came with her every word. She blew a kiss in his direction as he breathed in to steady himself, holding Élie's hands as the anchor they are for him. "Mister Scamander, if you will." Said Collins and Thes nodded as he looked deeply into his beloved's bright green eyes.
"My darling," Said Theseus, sweetly, making Amélie blush. "With your loving, there ain't nothing that I can't adore. The way I'm running, with you, honey, means we can break every law. I find it funny that you're the only one I never looked for. There is something in your loving that tears down my walls. You will only be eternally the one that I belong to, Amélie."
"You came into my life at exactly the right time: when I wasn't ready, and yet, when I needed your love the most. For years, we've experienced great triumphs and absolute disasters together. You and I...we've managed to overcome grief and loss side by side, and we'll keep on doing so, because of the great team we are. These trials have pushed the boundaries of what we thought we could endure, and in the end, I feel more strongly connected with you in a resolve to get up and try again."
"I love you dearly for all that you are. I am amazed by your inquisitive mind and tickled by your sense of humor. I may not want to admit it, but I even love your awful puns." Élie chucked. "As your husband, I promise to love you with the same determination and confidence you've given me. I vow to support you through more ups and downs. I pledge to commit myself to our family and the good I know will grow from it. I promise to devote myself to you, I promise to love you until I am no more." They smiled at each other as he brought her hand up to his lips and delicately placed a kiss upon her knuckles, right on top of the now visible and golden string that was holding them together.
Collins nodded with a bright smile as the bride and groom chuckled softly, acknowledging how similar they're, even in writing. "Very well. Do you, Theseus, take Amélie to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto her for as long as you both shall live?" Collins asked.
"I do." Theseus felt a lump in his throat as he adjusted his standing, eager for what was unfolding around them. Élie giggled sweetly.
"Do you, Amélie, take Theseus to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and not so good times, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto him for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do." She said, almost breathlessly.
"Please, look at your partner." The couple locked eyes, instantly smiling at each other. "Do you promise to be each other's peace through life's storms?"
"We do." They spoke in unison.
"Will you always have each other's back, regardless of the adversities you might encounter?"
"Yes, we do."
"The rings, please." Evan stepped forward and offered small black velvet box that contained the rings. "Thank you." Collins took the box and opened it, everyone could see the way Amélie and Theseus held their breaths. "You two have chosen wedding bands as a symbol of the love that brought you to each other and the love that keeps you connected. When you look at your wedding band, when you feel it around your finger, and whenever you touch it, remember this day and the commitment you've made." Collins loosened the lace enough for them to use their hands. "Please, take her ring, and read this card." He flicked his wand and a card appeared before Theseus, right beside their laced fingers.
"With this ring I, Theseus Killian Scamander, take you, Amélie Rosier, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life may bring us." He slid the wedding band down her finger, creating a beautiful stack adorned by the shiny sapphire of her engagement ring.
"Miss Rosier, if you will." Amélie took Theseus' wedding band out of the box as the card floated to her side for her to read.
"With this ring I, Amélie Angelina Rosier, take you, Theseus Scamander, to be no other than yourself. Loving what I know of you, and trusting what I do not yet know. I will respect your integrity and have faith in your abiding love for me, through all our years, and in all that life may bring us." Amélie slid the ring down Thes' finger and both stared at their hands.
"Before I proceed," said Collins. "should anyone here present know of any reason why these two should not be married? If so, speak now or forever hold your peace." A silence was made, only the wind that slipped in between the tree leaves dared to speak.
Amélie tightened her grip around Theseus' hands, suddenly frightened at the thought of Vinda or any enemy they had made along the way to burst through the door and ruin their ceremony, to snatch him away from her, as it had happened in countless nightmares. But no one showed. No one stopped their union. Amélie's eyes met Theseus, he offered her a reassuring smile.
"See? Told you we'd be fine." He whispered, making her chuckle, as he kissed her knuckles again.
"If there are no objections, then by the power invested in me by the Ministry of Magic, I now pronounce you Amélie and Theseus as husband and wife. You may kiss your bride." Another wand movement, and the white lace loosened around their hands, to wrap them gently around the waist as they stepped close to each other.
Theseus' hands cupped Amélie's face to bring her in for a much needed kiss. Everyone erupted in laughter and cheers, as fireworks created by the guests as they lifted their wands into the air appeared in the sky. Amélie laughed as she broke the kiss, desperate for air, with Thes' mouth chasing after her kisses.
As Élie placed a hand on his neck and the other on his shoulder, and while his hands found her waist, Theseus laughed, too. They were married. After such a long time yearning for each other, they were finally together until death does them apart. The pair held hands as the lace disappeared from around them and walked down the aisle hand in hand, together, with their loved ones cheering for them.
The party went by joyfully. Everyone was glad something good was finally happening in the world around them, suddenly, it didn't matter how dark the world was outside of this bubble, they were just existing in the beauty and thrill of the moment.
"How's your evening going, my beautiful wife?" Theseus asked Amélie as they danced for the first time as spouses, the world watching, and them not caring. She smiled wildly at him.
"Delightfully." She said. "Yours, my beloved husband?" Theseus could get drunk on how those words sounded in her voice, specially with that french accent that drove him to insanity.
"Charmingly." She lifted an eyebrow as she smiled. "I've never been happier." She giggled.
"Neither have I." He kissed her cheek. "I've been thinking..."
"Have you, really?" She rolled her eyes, bemused at him. "What have you been thinking about?"
"About all we've been through. We have a tough history." He nodded.
"Yes, we do. There's something some Muggle soldiers used to say back in the war, I may be paraphrasing, but they used to say that 'God gives the toughest battles to his toughest soldiers'. And I may not believe in God, or their God, but I do believe that we were given all these ups and downs because someone out there knew we could handle it, that we would always find our way back to each other. And I do believe that God made you for me." Amélie smiled, her eyebrows curving up, moved by his words.
"Following that theory, he must've made you for me, too." Theseus smiled and leaned down to kiss his bride.
As the night fell, the guests began to leave and only the small circle of friends we already know remained, as well as the Cotillards, and Evan, of course. Tonight, the ones to give a speech would be Newt and Evan, and Newt went first. He was very nervous, again, but he felt more confident because it was his second time doing this.
"I'm not very good with speeches. I know you all know that, and if you didn't, well, now you know. I— I tried not to have my notes and to memorise it, but..." he pulled out a folded paper. "If it sounds messy, I apologise. I just don't like the spotlight, but for my brother...I'll endure it." Theseus and Newt smiled at each other. "Very well," Newt cleared his throat and took a deep breath. "I've known Theseus my whole life, obviously." Everyone chuckled as Newt smiled. "And he...well, he is the best big brother anyone could ever ask for. He is kindhearted, hardworking, sweet, and generous."
"No wonder he's a Hufflepuff." Evan joked, making everyone laugh.
"Precisely. I've gotten to see every version of him, from the annoying twelve year old that he was, to the broken hearted fifteen year old, then the grown man he became. Still annoying, by the way." Everyone chuckled. "You know, if there's one thing I have always admired from you, Theseus, it's your resilience." Theseus smiled at his little brother. "Now, Amélie. I didn't grow up knowing you, but I did meet you once, when you asked where the Dark Arts classroom was ages ago," Amélie chuckled and Theseus just shook his head with a smile, remembering the joke he played on her. "I believe it was the reason you didn't get along at first, because Theseus made you go to a classroom that was on the opposite side of the Castle just for you to be late, right?"
"Yes. I despised him for months just because of his silly little pranks." Amélie assured, making everyone laugh, while Theseus simply leaned in and kissed her cheek.
"And look what came out of that." He whispered and they chuckled. Élie turned towards him and kissed his lips.
"Only the best thing that's ever happened in my life." He smiled at her, his blue eyes shaped into hearts.
"The next time I ever heard your name was whenever Theseus talked about you being the most amazing person he had ever met," Newt went on speaking. "or after things didn't initially work out between the two of you. But it wasn't until many years later, that I first met you, Amélie. It happened in New York, she helped me out with my beasts, made sure I wasn't imprisoned, stopped Grindelwald for the first time, and restored the city. Amélie risked her career and her life for a bunch of people she didn't know, for the brother of the guy she once loved in the past, all because she believed it was the right thing to do." Newt smiled at Amélie, who tilted her head, smiling, too.
"She didn't need to do it, but she looked after me and my creatures, she believed in me, and defended me when Theseus wasn't there to do it himself. That's when I knew I could trust her like a sister. Because I knew she was just like my brother, a giver of empathy and sympathy that will always offer a hand, and means well because her heart is just that big. She helps and believes in people all because she hopes people would fit in that heart of hers." He smiled at his sister-in-law, who smiled back at him with tears in her eyes. Newt pulled out his paper and read from it before continuing.
"Queenie said something to me once, that I needed a giver, not a taker. And that applies to you as well, Theseus. Well, you've found her." Thes and Amélie looked at each other again. "My brother, he gives advice; often unwanted, and yet very much needed hugs, words of affirmation, help...but the one thing he keeps to himself and really worries about who he gives it to is his heart. I knew that Amélie was the one he'd marry, the one he'd give his heart to, devotedly. Firstly, because he brought her home for the holidays." Everyone laughed again. "And secondly, because I was able to see how their hearts fit right in the palm of their hands." The couple held hands.
"Sometimes, we can find it hard to see what we do for someone, the impact we have on other people. Sometimes we fail to see how much we love someone, or how to say it." Theseus gulped and held on tighter to Amélie's hand. "But people outside are able to notice. And I've noticed the way you two look after each other. The way you love each other, silently." Evan nodded with a smile on his face. "And I'm so proud of you for learning how to love loudly. That you have overcome your fear, Theseus. And I know that my dad...our dad..." Newt took a moment to breathe as Aura's eyes filled up with tears, same as her boys' eyes. Amélie held on to Theseus' hand with her own as he suppressed his tears while Tina held Newt's hand when he chocked up with his words.
"I want you to know he is so proud, too." The brothers locked eyes. "Please know, your dad is proud." The tears in Theseus' eyes rolled down his cheeks as he nodded. "Not only because you're able to tell the people you love that you love them, he's proud because you've survived absolutely everything life has thrown your way. And, maybe he's not here to witness your union, but he's here." Theseus nodded. "He is here. And I'm sure he's glad you've chosen a woman that will look after your heart, from this day forward, no matter what comes your way." Newt took a deep breath. "He would've loved you, Amélie, I'm sure. He'd say that no one would be better for his little lad than yourself."
"Talking about dad...I recall he used to refer to our mother as his rock. Right?" Aura smiled through her tears and nodded. "So, Amélie, you be that rock for Theseus. You hold him down." Amélie nodded. "And look after him, after his heart, for all of us. And, if Theseus ever has problems...you come see me. Because, I may be quite distant, but I will always be there for my big brother. And for you." Amélie nodded again as her own tears fell, she was smiling. "That being said, congratulations. I love you both." Newt approached the couple and hugs were exchanged before Evan stood up from his place.
"Well, how do I compete against that?" He asked, making the adults laugh. "Alright. Well, I did not write down a speech." he said, shrugging. "I wrote bullet points that I remember, but I do better if I just go at the top of my head, and it will not be bad, I promise." The group laughed again and Élie shrugged, not minding. "Even if Amélie and I are siblings, we didn't really grow up together. I was very young when we were separated and I grew up without her in my life. Throughout all those years apart, I would eventually remember our parent's marriage. And it was a broken marriage, for so many reasons, but mainly because the lack of love."
"I was very little, same as Vinda, and you were the one to live through that darkness, also at such a young age." It was Amélie's turn to squeeze Theseus' hand as she remembered the sadness of her childhood home. "However, you remained so kind. So loving. Aspects I remember from our mother. You didn't let darkness poison your heart, so you became this bright light that would keep it away. That's why, I believe, you fight the darkness of the world so ardently. And I admire you for it. I look up to you for it." Amélie smiled at her brother as he breathed in and out. "And I thank you for it, because I don't know what would be of me, or where would I be without you today, Élie. I love you for taking me in, for looking after me again. I know I will never be able to repay you, and before you say it, I know I do not have to. But I want to, so I'll figure out a way eventually." Everyone chuckled and Amélie brushed a pair of tears away.
"As Newt said, you have ways of loving each other loudly and silently, and it's something really beautiful to witness. Despite ridiculous arguments about who should do the dishes, whose turn is it to cook, taxes, laundry and cleaning days, about who fed or didn't feed the cat...I've seen both of you care for each other. There's always two cups of tea or coffee ready for the other person, despite not knowing if they want some; there's always dancing in the kitchen as you bake, or singing along to whatever record Amélie's playing on Sunday mornings, horribly loud and outrageously early, might I add." Everyone laughed. "And, by the way, you might be slightly tone deaf, Theseus, but that's just a minor inconvenience." Theseus shrugged as the rest chuckled. "There's cooking when the other one's sick, or comforting each other after a tough day at work, or stargazing in the middle of the night by the window or as we all sit by the fire."
"We may have grown up with a broken marriage, Amélie, but I know that your marriage with Theseus will be everlasting, because I've seen firsthand what real love looks like. And it looks like the two of you together. Élie, you and Theseus, are easily the best couple I've seen in my entire life. Which is not much as a time measure, but it is something. Even if you're my big sister, the best one any one can ask for, you've been the mother I didn't have growing up." Amélie felt a lump in her throat as her eyes pooled with tears at how grown she was seeing her baby brother all of the sudden, and at his words. "And I cannot thank you enough for everything you've done for me. So I will take this moment to do it. Thank you. Ever since I got you back into my life, you've been there for me every step of the way and I wouldn't be the young man I am today if it wasn't for you. I love you so much, Amélie. And I'm so happy you gave me a brother-in-law as outstanding as Theseus." Evan's eyes shifted from his sister to the man sitting beside her, holding her hand.
"Theseus, you are an extraordinary man. I know how much you love my sister, and I will ask of you the same thing Newt has asked of her. Look after Amélie, she sometimes forget to do it because she's very busy looking after everyone around her." Antoine nodded, making Amélie roll her eyes with a soft smile. "Ground her, be her rock, too." Theseus nodded as he mouthed 'I will'. "I would also like to thank you for everything you've done for her so far, and also...for everything you've done for me." Evan added as he choked up with his words. "You have been more of a father than a big brother. And you've been more of a father than my own ever was." Theseus held his breath to avoid himself from whimpering. The couple squeezed each other's hands.
"You have supported me through the highs and the lows, anything really. You've been there for every Quidditch match I've had, despite having loads of work to do. You've never missed a single game and you've helped me become the player I am today. You've looked after me as if I was your own blood. And you've also made me the person I am today. I look up to you, too, and I actually want to be exactly like you when I grow up. You've shown me that kindness and gentleness is way better that trying to be tough. You have taught me how to be a man, a gentleman. And I cannot thank you enough for that, nor can I repay you now. But, just like I told Élie earlier, I will find a way to do it. Perhaps by honouring what you've taught me and carry on the legacy of the Scamander name as if it was my own." Theseus let out his breath and let his tears fall as Amélie's hand found the hair behind his back as she kissed his cheek.
"What I will do now is thank you, yet again, for loving and taking care of my sister. She has had to fend for herself for a very long time, and now she won't have to do it alone because she has you by her side. And, it's now in your hands to make sure she becomes the best woman she can be. Just as it is in your hands to make sure he becomes the best man he can be, Amélie."
"I may be young, I'm just eighteen, but I know there is no one more deserving of being together than the two of you. And I know that your lives will be full of joy, and that the home you build together will be just as warm and welcoming as your hearts are. Starting today. You've shown me that. You've shown us that. Last thing I'll say is, I wish you all the best, and for all of your days to be the happiest of all together. I love you both. And congratulations."
Everyone lifted their cups and clapped at the end of Evan's speech. Amélie rushed to her brother and hugged him as both cried, then Theseus joined the hug. From that moment on, their small party continued until everyone went to bed.
As Amélie and Theseus laid down together, facing the lake's waters through their window, they felt whole. And they knew life would only get better from this moment forward because their love would be, indeed, everlasting.

October 24th, 1947.
Hampstead, London, England.
English Countryside.
And so, twenty years had gone by. And in that time, a lot has happened. Newt had moved to America and eventually married Tina. Jacob and Queenie lived their lives more than joyfully, and Queenie had given up her life in the Wizarding World to live happily with her husband in the Muggle world. Of course they'd visit often, as often as they could, and eventually welcomed a baby girl that they named after Queenie's mother, Katherine.
Back in January of 1929, Amélie and Theseus welcomed their first child, Killian Rosier-Scamander. Discussing the order of their last names was not complicated, although it did take a while to settle it. Amélie would say that it was fine if her last name was excluded, but Theseus refused.
"Evan will continue with the Rosier name. Not now, of course. But eventually." She'd say.
"And there are plenty of Scamanders already." Theseus would argue.
"There's only two of you, Theseus."
"Yeah, soon to be three with little Edward on the way." He chuckled. "I still cannot believe Newt's going to be a dad, too." Amélie chuckled as well, as she ate cherries with a hand resting on her baby bump.
"That kid will be the luckiest in the world. Just like our child." Theseus kissed her, then her belly.
"Yes. And he will be a Rosier-Scamander." Amélie smiled, but didn't say another word. "I do want our children to have your name. If they have both of our last names, it won't only be my family's legacy or only your family's legacy, it'll be our family's legacy. It's something they deserve to have."
"I love you, you know?" She said after kissing his lips.
"I do. And I love you, more." He said before kissing her lips back.
And so, it was decided. Two years later, in late April of 1931, their second child came into this world, and they named her Aurora. It's safe to say Theseus was more than moved to have a little girl, and Amélie would joke about how much of a girl dad he actually is even if he freaked out more to welcome a little girl then he did with their son. And eventually, in October of 1933, their third and final child arrived, Esme.
They needed a bigger house, for two adults, three kids and a young adult that's just getting up on his feet was too small. They moved to a much fitting place, a lovely home in Kingston Upon Thames. And this family lived happily for many years to come.
But just as love and happiness engulfed Amélie and Theseus' world, darkness grew bigger everywhere else. Do not fret, the Rosier-Scamander family was completely safe. In 1939 the Muggle World fell into the second war Grindelwald had foreseen, with this, the dark wizard gained a lot of power in the Wizarding World, and a war began in their world once again, much worse than ever before because this time Grindelwald could bring the war to the Muggles.
Angelique Rosier's home in the Countryside served as a safe house where Amélie and Theseus moved their family to in order to secure their safety, Aura Scamander also moved in with them to look after the kids while Amélie, Theseus and the recently graduated Auror Evan Rosier fought to bring the peace back into their world.
Years later, in 1945, the war that raged in both worlds came to an end. Dumbledore found Grindelwald and, as he had promised Theseus, he stopped him. Theseus himself asked to lock Grindelwald up, and he was the one to throw him into a cell just to lock the gate and throw the key into the ocean. After thanking Dumbledore for his efforts and shaking his hand, they parted ways and never spoke to each other again.
A year later, the three previously mentioned Aurors were the ones to catch Gellert's most loyal accomplices. Abernathy, Carrow, Krafft, Krall, MacDuff, Hoffman, and Vinda Rosier were finally locked up in Azkaban, too. It was beyond satisfactory to put Krafft behind bars for Amélie, but it brought great sorrow to put Vinda in prison. Despite all the pain, despite the hate that had grown in Amélie's chest for the woman before her, she couldn't forget who Vinda once was. And it pained her. Deeply. She hoped that deep down, her sister wasn't gone, but she would never know because Élie walked away and never turned back as Vinda screamed how much she hated her.
After their world was re-built, peace reigned everywhere. Their kids grew up happy, and eventually attended both Hogwarts and Beauxbatons. Killian was sorted into Gryffindor and Aurora was sorted into Hufflepuff, while young Esme decided to attend school all the way in France, she got sorted into the Papillonlisse house.
Evan became a decorated Auror that did bring honour to the Rosier-Scamander name, for he had taken Theseus' last name when he offered if the young boy would like it. Evan eventually applied for the position of Head Auror of the French Office, and after a long process, he got the promotion, and is now working at the French Ministry. Words aren't enough to describe how proud Amélie and Theseus are of him.
And now, at the present time, Amélie and Theseus have retired and live still happily married in the English Countryside, with a loving family in a home they've built. It was just as Evan had predicted, their home is as welcoming as their hearts are. They have what they've always wanted, and they are together, as the fates have decided.
Stories about their lives and what they've achieved will be written, perhaps more detailed than the one you're reading, for young witches and wizards to learn of important figures of the Wizarding World, but they do not care for those books or what will be written in them.
The only thing they care about is waking up next to each other and calmly reading the letters of every beastly adventure Newt has, the news from France or New York Evan, Tina, Queenie and Jacob send their way, and every school update their children send over a cup of tea as they bathe in sunlight sitting at their backyard, their fingers intertwined, sharing spontaneous kisses to keep the romance of their relationship ablaze, right next to the tree Angelique's picture was taken at.
There is something about the way they love each other that finally feels like home because they're each other's light amidst the darkness, their right kind of madness, their hope in times of despair. They are each other's sweetest devotion. And I'm able to tell you that, even after twenty years together, that will never change. This love, their love, will continue to grow for many years to come.
After all the heartbreak, they are together and they're happy. Still madly and irrevocably in love with each other, completely devoted to their love and everything they've built. Their hands tied tightly with an invisible, and sometimes visible, string.
The End.
