Labyrinth
January 2nd, 1926.
London, England. United Kingdom.
Rosier-Scamander home.
We find ourselves in a house that Amélie and Theseus bought in London. It was like Theseus' previous house but bigger for the three of them to fit comfortably, located in King Street.
The Rosier siblings moved to London at the end of December, Amélie and Theseus had their home right before New Year's day to spend the holiday here with Theseus' family, for they had spent Christmas in France. The feeling of offering a party in their home, purchased as a couple certainly was reviving, with all of their family —and chosen family— over, simply thrilling.
Certainly you might have some questions like: How did Amélie end up in London? What happened to her job? Is she no longer working as an Auror? Well, let me answer those for you.
Antoine and Travers signed a contract with Rosier and Scamander in which they were allowed to share the Head Auror title and the leadership of the London Office. Monsieur Cotillard was glad to see Amélie create a new life, he knew London's air might be the best new thing for her.
Surely it didn't taste sweet all of the time, there were bittersweet moments. For example, the moment Amélie arrived at the British Ministry, everyone started to talk about it, absolutely everyone present believed they had an opinion about her and the relationship she might have with the other Head Auror despite her being a Head Auror herself.
There were multiple times in which she felt overwhelmed by it, and she'd have a few anxiety attacks to the point where she'd much rather arrive separately at work. It was sad to hear it, what everyone all said, she couldn't stop feeling like she'd be the one to pay the price for being in the position she is in the Bureaux and for being with the man she loves.
"She's just sleeping with him to get to where she's now."
"Two Head Aurors? Please, that's ridiculous."
"Whore."
"I cannot believe this was allowed!"
"Slut!"
One day she broke down in their house after a long day of work. Theseus simply listened pulled her into a hug as both were sitting down on their bed, cups of tea almost empty and cold, Theseus' was on the nightstand while Amélie was still holding hers.
"It's shocking. I mean, I've always said that I didn't care, you know? After all, those are just words. For example, when Angela said those words to me back then, it didn't matter much because I didn't know her at all."
"You did slap her, though." Amélie chuckled.
"Because she deserved it. I mean, was she a stranger? Yes. Did i care what she had to think about me? Not a single bit. Was I going to let her call me names? Not at all. So I slapped her, but these were girls I work with, I can't slap them." She sighed. "It just hit different." Theseus nodded. "It's like being back in Beauxbatons, hearing girls gossiping about you in the bathroom." She rolled her eyes and took a sip of her tea.
"You were the kind of girl other girls gossiped of in the bathroom?" He was shocked.
"Well, when you're better than most people, they'll talk awfully behind your back to let off some steam." She shrugged. "I didn't do anything back then, just beat them at duels." Theseus smiled and chuckled, proud.
"I didn't expect any less." Amélie smiled when he kissed her cheek. "And what did you do this time?" He asked.
"Well, I just walked out of the cubicle and washed my hands, they were all silent and had very pale faces; then I told them to make sure the person they were gossiping about wasn't in the room first, then, they could say whatever they wanted. They said 'sorry', and I asked 'sorry what?', and they said 'sorry, ma'am', then I walked out." She smiled against his shoulder. "I took pleasure from that, the look on their faces, not going to lie, but it still hurt."
"I'm sorry. When I came up with this idea I didn't think it would bring this treatment your way, it's so unfair." Amélie remained quiet for a moment and thought about it. "But, at the end, they're just words, indeed. I know it hurts because these are your partners, but..." She shrugged as she incorporated to leave the empty cup on the bedside table.
"They're just jealous." Theseus chuckled.
"Surely." He kissed her shoulder.
"I get to be with you and they don't, I mean, you're the man everyone wants, right?" Theseus laughed again against her skin, which caused her to chuckle. "You're right, they're just words, who cares?" He kissed her neck.
"That's my girl." He kissed her cheek and she turned to him, her hand on his cheek.
"All I need is you." He smiled and kissed her lips.
Few days later, a ball was officiated; the couple was all dressed up with a fancy gown and tux. The gala took place at the Ministry and they arrived together, arm in arm, chins up and with zero fucks to give about what anyone might say.
Here and there people whispered, their eyes on them the whole time, but Amélie shook them off. She spent her night dancing, laughing, with a cigar in one hand and a glass of wine on the other with the man of her dreams, Theseus, the smoke adorning their clothes. Suddenly, it felt as if they were dancing all by themselves for the ammount of attention they felt on them.
"They're looking at us." Said Theseus, suddenly feeling self-conscious too. Amélie just shrugged.
"Let them." He smiled at her. "I heard one of the recepctionists calling me a slut." Élie said out of the blue, causing Theseus to frown. He tensed and seemed to be on his way to kindly ask that receptionist to apologise. "But it's alright, I don't care, it might be worth it for once."
"Why?"
"Because you're with me." He chuckled. "I think I also told her to fuck off." He laughed loudly, throwing his head back.
"You're drunk."
"No, I'm a tipsy poet, which is very different. And, in any way, you're tipsy too." He chuckled once more.
"True."
"However, if I'm gonna be drunk, might as well be drunk in love." Amélie closed the gap between them and kissed his lips tenderly, he kissed her back immediately as they heard a gasp all over the room.
"You are a poet." He said and she laughed.
"Told you so."
In that moment, and for the rest of the night, they decided to make everyone else disappear in a blur while they enjoyed their night. With this, the sticks and stones everyone threw froze mid-air, and it was true, the insults came from women that were jealous.
Theseus Scamander is an attractive and important man, everyone wants him and that was Amélie's crime, but this was the right place at the right time, they had that in their favour now.
"Thank you." Rosier said all of the sudden.
"Whatever for?" Asked Scamander.
"Being a gentleman." Thes smiled.
"Well, I was raised to be one." Amélie laughed.
"I mean it. In a world of boys you are a gentleman, Thes." He smiled at his lady and kissed her lips.
"I love you." Those three words had a thrilling and electric effect on Amélie, it was as if she heard them for the first time each time Theseus spoke them.
"I love you, too." It seemed like both would pay the price for their affair, but neither cared. Not anymore, and they never will.
Anyhow, everything had aligned at the end, Amélie and Theseus could work together as Head Aurors of the British Office, Evan learned English and transferred to Hogwarts for his final three years, and they lived all together, which made their lives easier.
Today, Queenie and Jacob's wedding will be celebrated in New York and they were getting ready to get there.
"Darling, are you ready to go?" Theseus asked as he tied the knot his white bowtie and looked at his reflection in the mirror. His tux shone elegantly, his hair perfectly slick back, the flower on his jacket perfectly placed.
"I am." Amélie walked into the room as he finished tightening the knot of his tie; her hair curled and falling gracefully above her shoulders, a beautiful silver silk dress over her figure, the dress of the bridesmaids. She rushed in and grabbed her perfume from the counter and splashed it onto her neck.
Theseus smiled and hugged her from behind, his arms wound her torso as her back collided with his chest gently, she smiled too as she put on her pearl earrings.
"You look dazzling, as always." He kissed her shoulder as she applied her red lipstick. Amélie turned around to face him.
"Thank you. You look breathtaking, chéri." He smiled more and kissed the corner of her lips as not to ruin her lipstick. "You know, I'm pretty sure you tilt your ties to the side for me to fix them."
"Damn, you finally figured it out." Amélie laughed as Theseus' hands found her waist and moved down to her hips and back up again. She moved down the collar of his shirt and kissed his neck, the red kiss a tattoo hidden with the white cloth.
"We should go or we'll be late." He nodded and they made their way towards the living room, where Evan was looking at one of Theseus' Hogwarts yearbooks. "Ready to go, Ev?"
"Yes." He said and looked up to watch them, then he frowned and looked back at the page he was looking at. "Whoa."
"What?" Asked Theseus and Evan walked up to them and showed them a picture where they appeared. "The Yule Ball? What about it."
"The Yule Ball of 1910, sixteen years later you're dressed almost the exact same way." Amélie remembered her dress and it was very similar, indeed. Even if the picture was black and white, you could see colours, specially if you lived the moment, you can see the colours in your head. "You haven't changed much, actually."
"Sixteen years?" Asked Theseus. "Blimey, it's been a while." Amélie chuckled. "We have changed, though."
"It has been a while and the only thing that has changed is the fact that you've gotten taller and my hair is now shorter." Theseus scoffed. "Now, both of you get your coats or we'll be late." Evan grabbed his coat from the sofa with an amused smile as Theseus grabbed his own from the rack by the door, he took Amélie's coat as well and placed it over her shoulders. "Merci." They walked out of the house and apparated at the British Ministry, then, they stepped into the chimney of the Aurors' office and apparated in MACUSA.
"Are we meeting with Tina?" Evan asked and Theseus checked his pocket watch, the picture he kapt in it of Amélie changed from the Academy yearbook picture to one he had taken of her as she sat by the window of their new house, the first night they spent in it. She was smiling brightly and had a glass of rosé in her hand.
"Given the time I suspect she'd already be there." Said Theseus.
"Is it that late?" Asked Amélie as they walked out of the building and stepped onto the cold and snowy New York street.
"No, we're perfectly on time. You know Tina, she'll always try to be there five minutes early even if she's already half an hour early." Amélie nodded. "C'mon." Theseus took Amélie's arm and they walked until they could deapparate and apparate right in front of Jacob's bakery all the way towards the East Village. When they arrived, they saw Newt and Tina talking outside. Lally had just arrived as well. Theseus cleared his throat and everyone looked at them. "Hello." He said.
"Theseus, look who's here." Newt said with a huge smile on his lips, his hand on Tina's waist, the black haired woman with a bright smile on her face too.
"Hi." Said Tina as she approached Amélie and they hugged, then, she hugged Lally.
"Do you know my brother?" Amélie asked as Evan smiled at Tina.
"Evan Rosier, nice to meet you." They shook hands.
"Nice to meet you too." He then shook Lally's hand.
"Lally Hicks."
"She's a charms teacher." Said Newt.
"Really? That's my favourite class at Hogwarts." Said the young man.
"Well, tell me all about it." Lally and Evan walked in and the couples remained outside. Amélie smiled at Tina.
"How have you been?" Asked Goldstein.
"Good, I've been good." Rosier's eyes looked at Theseus briefly and he smiled at her before winking. "Did you get my letter?"
"I did. François is definitely a capable man, he'd be able to fill in your shoes in France." Said Tina and both women held hands. That's when Amélie locked eyes with Newt.
"You look wonderful, Amélie." He said.
"Well, thank you, Newt. I appreciate it." Said Rosier as she smiled while Theseus just looked at his brother. Amélie looked at Theseus and chuckled. "Now, Tina, come on. We need to check if Queenie needs anything." Tina and Newt exchanged looks and the ladies walked away into the bakery, which smelled like freshly baked bread, leaving both Scamander's outside.
Theseus moved fast and stood in between the door and his brother, a huge smile on his lips as he acknowledged Newt was beyond happy because Tina was there.
"What about me? How do I look?" Asked Theseus and Newt laughed, causing him to laugh.
"You look fine." Said Newt and Theseus chuckled again.
"Just fine? Ouch." A short pause. "You alright?" Newt's eyes were glued to his feet. "You okay?" He asked as his hand found Newt's shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm alright."
"You're not nervous, are you?" Newt sighed and Theseus smiled. "Can't be nervous about a speech after saving the world." The laugh of the girls called their attention, Theseus smiled when he saw Amélie laughing and throwing her head back. He suddenly fixed his jacket and his hand patted his pocket twice.
"Hm, can't be nervous about asking a question after saving the world." Theseus scoffed.
"That is very different." The weight of a small box made itself noticeable in the inner pocket of his jacket.
"New ring?"
"No."
"Mum's ring?"
"Yep."
"I thought it got lost that night in Paris."
"I went back to retrieve it." Newt nodded and a silence fell upon them.
"When will you ask her?" Theseus smiled at his little brother.
"Soon, Newt."
"How soon is soon?"
"I don't know, just...soon. I mean, when is it the right time to ask someone to marry you?"
"I don't know."
"See? It's not an easy question to answer."
"I guess it comes from instinct."
"Precisely what I'm thinking. That's why I carry that box everywhere, I never know when I'm going to have the impulse of asking her." Newt nodded.
"Fair enough." A pause. "But when do you consider it would be appropriate to ask her?" Theseus laughed.
"I have no idea, Newt. When I do you'll be the first one to know, I promise. Tonight's not the right time, it's Jacob and Queenie's wedding, tonight's about them. Plus we just moved in together...this needs time."
"You moved in before you got married? People will talk, Theseus. Specially at the Ministry." He shrugged.
"Let them." If there's one thing he doesn't care about anymore is what the people might thing or say about him and his relationship with Amélie. "Romance is not dead, if you keep it just yours. In all honesty, there was no point in having two houses in London if I was going to ask her to marry me." Newt nodded, understanding. Theseus' eyes got lost behind Newt for a second and he pointed at the distance. Newt looked over his shoulder and saw Dumbledore sitting on a bench. The man gave a formal head nod, which both Scamander's returned. "I think he wants to talk to you."
"You still hate him?"
"I do. What he did to Amélie...she's still battling it, you know? Waking up in the middle of the night or not sleeping at all, sometimes if I hold her arm she'll flinch and pull away, she's in a constant alert mode all day long. It's tough." Newt nodded.
"Does she know?"
"Yes. He told her one day she visited Hogwarts with Evan, he apologised and she nodded before walking out of his office without even saying a word, that's what she told me." He sighed. "You shouldn't keep him waiting, though." Newt nodded and Theseus walked in and reached his girl's side.
"That's Dumbledore, isn't it?" She asked as she looked out the window as she hugged Theseus.
"Yes." His hand landed on her hip and he kissed the side of her head as she nodded and returned to the conversation. Tina was sharing the story of when the Goldstein sisters met Jacob and Newt for the first time. "Bloody hell." Said Theseus with a chuckle when Tina said Newt's beasts escaped from the case and were all over New York.
"Yes! I remember they sneaked out of our house to go after one." Said Queenie. "We had just prepared them hot cocoa." The room laughed again when Jacob ran out from the back of the bakery covering his eyes with a hand as not to see Queenie.
"Sweetie, I can't find the ring." Everyone went serious in the blink of an eye. "I don't know where I left it and I don't know if it could be in the cake."
"La barbe de Merlin." Amélie whispered as she placed down her drink and everyone started looking for the ring. Tina calmed Queenie down and they went to look for it together. Rosier grabbed her coat and walked out, the two gentlemen outside turned their heads at the sound of a bell jingling, then, she walked up to where hey were. "Hey, Newt?"
"Yes?"
"Jacob seems to think he's lost the ring in the cake and Queenie's going mental about it. Please tell me you've got it." Newt smiled.
"No, it's all good. Yep." Pickett poked his head from behind the white flower that rests on Newt's jacket and he had the ring around his neck. Amélie chuckled.
"Magnifique. Good man, Pick." She told the Bowtuckle, then her eyes landed on Dumbledore. "Evening." She greeted.
"Hello, Amélie. Enjoying the night so far?"
"Indeed. A beautiful night for a historical day."
"That's precisely what I was telling Newt. It's surprising how mundane historical days feel when you're living them." She nodded.
"Tell me about it." He chuckled knowing very well she knows the feeling. Surviving the Muggle war, the war in her own world, now standing as a bridesmaid at the wedding of a Witch and a Non-magique man in America. She knows. "I should go back inside and tell them you've got the ring." She said looking at Newt. "Goodnight, Professor." He sighed and nodded his head as she walked away. She laughed when she saw the hysteria in the room. "It's alright, Newt has the ring."
"Thank goodness! That scared me." Said Queenie. The laughs and the comment reached Newt's ears outside.
"Let me take your coat." Theseus said and Amélie allowed him to remove the piece of clothing, his fingertips brushing the skin of her shoulders, causing her to shiver. He smiled to himself.
"Thank you." She said and kissed his cheek, when she tried to remove the lipstick stain, he moved backwards and asked her not to. She rolled her eyes but didn't refuse to such plea.
The door opened again and Amélie stood closer to Theseus as a cold breeze came in alongside Bunty, he hugged her to keep her warm.
"Hey!" Said Lally.
"Hello!" Said Bunty and everyone greeted her. Newt walked in shortly after. Jacob hugged Newt when he walked in.
"I think we're ready." Said Mister Kowalski and everyone settled for the small and intimate wedding. Queenie stood by the door and Jacob on the opposite side, right before the fire of the oven. The guests stood on both sides of the aisle for Queenie to walk in between them. Tina flickered her wand and snow started to fall upon them, but it was not cold at all, Amélie swished her wand and an arch of flowers formed over them. Queenie smiled at both of them when she walked past them and stood beside Jacob. When their eyes met, Jacob smiled and they chuckled. "Wow, you're so beautiful." He said and Queenie chuckled, as well as the rest of the guests.
As they exchanged their vows, Amélie teared up. Theseus looked at her and hugged her, his arms around her torso, her back against his chest. He removed the napkin from his jacket and handed it over, causing her to chuckle in a whisper. She dried her tears as the pair gave the 'I do' and Amélie cried again as everyone cheered for them.
The party started in Kowalski Baked Goods and champagne was served for everybody. Queenie and Jacob danced in the middle of the room and were joined by Tina and Newt, Evan and Lally, Bunty and Jacob's employee Albert, while Amélie and Theseus just watched. She smiled and she laughed at the sight of her you get brother dancing with a school teacher.
"This is beautiful." Amélie said, Theseus smiled and looked at her.
"Yes, it is." Élie turned to look at him and was surprised to find his eyes pinned to her, she chuckled.
"I meant the party, not me." He chuckled, too.
"Well, party's nice." He said shrugging and both laughed. "Wanna dance?" She nodded and they started dancing close to each other with the rest of the couples.
"You dreamt of this once, right?" Rosier asked, making conversation.
"This?"
"A wedding, I mean. You wrote to me about that once. We weren't really talking at the time, it was back when I left London."
"Oh." He cleared his throat, remembering the letter he drunkenly wrote and sent. The ring box in his pocket made its presence noticeable again. "Right. Yeah, I dreamt of a wedding."
"How was it?"
"It's...blurry in my memory." He sighed. "I remember a wedding somewhere, a large place with walls of windows."
"A cathedral maybe?" He chuckled.
"Maybe. It was autumn, I remember the tree leaves were orange or yellow...there were no guests, no one to officiate the wedding. It was only me. And I was there, standing on the other side of the aisle, but no one ever came walking down from it." She frowned, sad. "I don't know. It was a while ago."
"And have you thought about your wedding ever since?" He shook his head. "Did you ever think about it?"
"When I was engaged to Leta. We talked about a private ceremony in London, nothing big at all, with a few guests." He shrugged. "We were too busy, barely had time to plan anything at all." She nodded. "Did you ever think about your wedding?"
"I did." A smile was drown on her lips. Theseus smiled at the sight. "I thought of a wedding at the end of the summer or during the first days of spring, not in Paris, but Italy." A chuckle. "With loads of wine and champagne." He laughed alongside her.
"Is that what you had planned with Alexandre?" Her smile faded away.
"No. Due to the times we've been living in, how fast or how slow everything was happening, that we were both drowning in reports and couldn't stand from our chairs but to go after dark wizards or go home to sleep, we never thought of a big wedding. Only a quick ceremony to get going with our business." He nodded, understanding.
"But you'd like your wedding to be in the summer in Italy."
"Ending of the summer or the first days of spring. Yes." He chuckled.
"And have you ever dreamt about it?"
"No. When I did, it was only a nightmare. I was just looking around in a blood soaked white gown and Jean was on the ground, dead, so..." She shrugged. "It's not a dream you'd like to recall."
"I understand." He sighed and the song ended. They smiled at each other and he leaned down to press a kiss onto her lips, making her smile. "Would you fancy a drink?" She nodded. "A glass of rosé coming up, milady." Amélie chuckled and watched him walk away to get their drinks. When he was pouring the glass of rosé and proceeded to place ice in the glass of firewhiskey he was going to have, she grabbed her coat and walked out.
The jingle of the bell above the door called Theseus' attention, when his eyes looked towards the glass wall, he saw Amélie standing outside with a cigar in between her red lips, she was struggling to light it up. There was a sudden concern in her face, so Theseus placed the glasses down and walked out. "Hey." He called sweetly and her eyes looked up at him. "Everything alright?"
"Oui, tout va bien. Bien." She groaned when she couldn't make the flame burn the tip of the cigarette.
"Need some help?" He offered his hand and she handed over the lighter. In one try, the flame emerged from the golden lighter.
"Really?" She asked with an arched eyebrow while he smiled at her as he shrugged.
"What can I say? I'm a wizard for a reason." She laughed and he turned the lighter off. "Why are you trying to light one up?"
"I honestly don't know, I just had to." Amélie sighed. "I haven't smoked in a while, it was a sudden need." He nodded. "I shouldn't." He shrugged.
"I didn't come here to make you keep it in the box, I came here to help you light it up." She smiled and he stepped close to her. "However, I do think you don't need to have a smoke." Élie sighed as his hands found her arms and rubbed them up and down. "Why do you feel like smoking? What's in your mind?" She breathed in and out, feeling calm due to his presence. Her middle and index finger found the cigarette and removed it from her lips just to keep it in the box.
"I hadn't thought about that in a very long time. The nightmare, a wedding. It woke a nervousness in me."
"Sorry I brought it up." She frowned and shook her head.
"No, no. Don't be sorry, you didn't bring it up, I did. But the nervousness started when we arrived, seeing Queenie in her gown, the cake, the decorations, everything. I noticed you got nervous because of my question earlier, I am sorry." He smiled. "I feel like I'm getting lost in the labyrinth of my mind, I need to walk. Could we take a walk?"
"Sure, we can take a walk. I'll get my coat and be right back." He walked in and grabbed his coat, his eyes caught Newt's glance. He silently asked him if he was going to pop the question, to which he smiled and shrugged. "We'll be right back." He mouthed.
"Everything alright?" Asked Lally.
"Yes, Amélie just needs some air, we'll walk down the block and be right back." Lally smiled and nodded. "Keep an eye on Evan while we're gone, would you?" He asked as he threw on his coat.
"No problem." He smiled back.
"Thanks, Hicks. We won't take long." She nodded and he walked out, meeting with Amélie outside. "Let's go." Thes said and Élie turned around, he noticed her picking on her maroon red nail polish, so he grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers before kissing her knuckles. Amélie released a breath of relief as they started walking. "You're anxious."
"A little."
"It's alright, we can walk as long as you'd like or need." She smiled at him.
"Thank you." He nodded. "Did I...did I overstep with the question about your dream or am I overthinking?" She asked after a short pause.
"You're overthinking it, love."
"But you got nervous."
"I mean, I was not expecting that question, nor that you remembered what I had said in that letter, that's all."
"Oh." She nodded as they turned right and kept on walking down the street. "Well, I am not hinting anything, by the way." He frowned. "I mean, we're at a wedding, we just moved in together, it would be fitting if I was trying to hint something but I'm not trying to. I wouldn't get married." He stopped on his tracks all of the sudden. Amélie was taken aback for the sudden stop.
"You wouldn't get married?"
"I mean, not now, there's just been a wedding. It would be like taking their spotlight and I'd hate to do that. However, I would- I would get married."
"You would?" Theseus felt relieved.
"If you asked, I would say yes in a heartbeat."
"You would?"
"Yes...Yes, I think I would."
"You think you would say yes or would you say yes?" Élie chuckled.
"I would say yes." They stood close to each other. "Would you ask?"
"Yes."
"Oh." He chuckled.
"I didn't think you were hinting something. I did get nervous because...I have thought about it, being married."
"You have?"
"I have. Have you?" She smiled and nodded.
"Constantly."
"Oh." They laughed and realised it had begun to snow. Amélie looked up in awe as the snowflakes fell upon them. She smiled at the sight. And Theseus smiled at his sight. He chuckled as he watched her try to catch a snowflake with her tongue. The impulse he was talking about earlier with Newt started thudding in his chest. "I'm in love with you." She looked at him.
"What?"
"I've been thinking about that. The difference between 'loving someone', 'being in love with someone', and 'love someone you're in love with'. I love Newt, my mother, my friends, and I would do anything for them. But the love I feel for your it's different because I am in love with you. When I think about all the loves I've had throughout my life, I realise there was only attraction and passion, which is a passing thing, chemistry that worked out, and maybe I fell in love with someone else back then, but she wasn't you."
"Are you proposing to me right now?" He laughed as he pulled her in, his hands on the small of her back, close to her hips.
"No, darling. I'm just telling you how I feel." She laughed. "I spent so much time not saying it that I must say it all now." A smile.
"Alright. Go on, then." He breathed in and out before he spoke again.
"I would do anything for anyone that needs it, but I would go to the lengths of the Earth for you, I would die for you, and I would live for you."
"It does sound like you're proposing to me right now."
"I should stop talking." She laughed and kissed his lips. "That's my favourite way you have of shutting me up, by the way."
"Shut up."
"Hmm, no. I prefer the first one." Amélie laughed against his lips on a snowy street and kissed him again. He hummed in response, sending vibrations over her mouth as he smiled into the kiss. She realised Theseus would make her laugh her whole life, he made her feel loved, like she belonged, like she was the only and most beautiful woman in the world. He's been through her worse, seen her worse and understood her worse, and he has stayed. And he has told her he'd stay. "I love you." He said when the kiss was broke and she smiled.
"I am in love with you, too."
"Are you really?"
"Yes." She said chuckling. "I know what it's like to live for someone, it's tougher than dying for somebody, I believe. And I know you'd do it for me. Rest assured, my love, I'd do it for you too." He smiled.
"I know." He left a quick peck on her lips. "Were you hoping for me to propose or is it just wedding fever?" They resumed their walk down the block in order to return to the party.
"I guess it's just wedding fever. But I do expect you to ask me to marry you at some point in our lives." He kissed the side of her head, when she looked up at him, he kissed her tenderly.
"Perhaps someday I will." She rolled her eyes with amusement and both remained silent until they arrived at the bakery.
Food was served and it was delicious, to say the least. Eventually, the couple cut a slice of their cake and pictures were taken. The dessert was made and baked with so much love you could actually feel it. Newt joked saying that Jacob certainly was a wizard if he could do that with his food and the Muggle fella laughed very loudly at the comment.
Eventually, after a couple more drinks and anecdotes exchanged, Newt called everyone's attention and delivered a beautiful speech about how his friendship with Jacob changed so much in his life, how that adventure here in New York caused the world of everyone in the room to flip for the better. He talked about love and the magic of it, then, he rose his glass and made a toast in the name of the just married couple. Afterwards, the party continued until quarter past four in the morning.
Lally said she'd head towards the Inn she was staying at, same as Bunty; Albert went home, while Queenie and Jacob, accompanied by Tina and Newt decided they'd go to the Goldstein sisters' apartment. Evan wanted to go, too.
"But we have a room at the Inn." Amélie argued.
"Perhaps, but Queenie said she'd give me some of her famous hot cocoa." Queenie chuckled at Evan's argument.
"Yes, I did."
"Is there enough room for him there?" Asked Rosier.
"He could stay in the case." Newt proposed.
"Yes!" Evan exclaimed excitedly.
"What about the creatures?" Asked Theseus.
"They know him, he helped me feed them the other day, remember?" Theseus nodded. "The resting area of the case is perfect for one night, he'll be fine."
"Please, it'll be fun." Evan commented with a smile.
"You can come over for breakfast and pick him up afterwards." Tina suggested. Amélie sighed, looked at Theseus and nodded.
"Alright. When should we arrive?"
"Does half past nine sound good to everyone?" Asked Jacob, he received a positive response. "Then, we'll meet you there. You do know how to arrive, don't you?"
"I think I do." Said Amélie.
"If anything, I'll send you an owl with our address to the Inn you're staying. It's the one across from Central Park, right?"
"Indeed." Said Theseus.
"Very well, see you tomorrow." Said Newt.
"Bye." Evan kissed Amélie's cheek and walked away with the four adults while the pair made their way towards their Inn.
"You know, this is better." Theseus told Amélie in a whisper.
"Is that so?"
"Yeah, we get to be alone. That way I'll be able to remove that elegant dress from you." She chuckled and after they deapparated from the street just to appear in the alley, they walked into the Inn and asked for a room.
Funny enough, they got room 3B. When they walked in, she took off her coat and threw it over the chair near the counter as he closed the door behind him. When he turned around, Theseus watched closely how she removed her jewels and unclipped her hair, letting the longer dark red locks of hair fall down her back.
Theseus removed his own coat and the jacket of his tux as she turned around. He smiled at her as she kicked off her shoes and he removed his waistcoat, then the tie and the shirt, revealing the kiss on his neck. Amélie smiled at the sight of the red tattoo before kissing the same spot again. Theseus closed his eyes under that touch as his hands found the zipper of her dress and gently started to pull it down.
The silver silk slid down Amélie's figure like water as her hands found the back of Theseus' head to play with his hair as their lips met. His hands traveled up and down her back slowly, caressing her skin with tenderness.
At a steady pace, Thes started to walk and Élie mirrored his movements backwards until he laid her down on the bed. Their night was filled with passion and love, Theseus was convinced those two things were a separate affair, one or the other, but he found out you can have both with the right person. Your person. And Amélie was his person. Making love when you're in love is something so majestic and precious, and they'd never get tired of it, of the feeling they get when they're together.
She whispered the name that would forever be the name on her lips whenever he made her feel good and kissed that spot behind her ear, he'd call her name whenever he felt her body tensing underneath him or her nails scratched his back.
Reaching a high with each other felt out of this world and it's so comforting having their company once they escalated back from said high. Theseus smiled at Amélie when her glance looked for his, she smiled back and kissed his chin.
"I love you." She said in a sleepy whisper.
"I love you." He said just as low. He looked at his jacket and thought of the ring. He did feel like asking, but it's not the right moment. Or is it? When is it the right moment? After a night like this? At dinner over a few glasses of wine? While you're cooking or walking downtown? Theseus looked at her, laying over his chest naked with only the bedsheets covering them. He breathed in and out. "Amélie? Are you awake?"
"Mhm." She almost wasn't.
"You'll be with me for a long time, right?"
"Hopefully, yes."
"And you would say yes?"
"Already told you, in a heartbeat."
"Alright. Just making sure." She chuckled and breathed in and out, she was falling asleep. Theseus closed his eyes and told himself he'd wait, after all, they have time to spare now.
When the morning came, they got dressed up in last night's clothes after they took a shower and made their way towards the address Amélie remembered, thankfully it was the Goldstein household. There, the gang had breakfast and enjoyed a lovely time over coffee and tea, as well as some scones baked by Jacob himself.
Eventually, they all accompanied Jacob and Queenie towards the docks, where they'd board a ship that would take them on a trip to Greece for their honeymoon. When they had departed, Newt, Tina, Evan, Amélie and Theseus remained there.
"Will you take a ship back to England?" Asked Tina.
"We'll take MACUSA's chimneys, it's faster." Amélie answered and Thes nodded.
"Alright, fair enough." They started walking towards the American Congress.
"Write us when you get there." Said Newt.
"Us?" Asked Theseus. "You're staying?"
"Yes, for a little bit." The Scamander's smiled at each other.
"Alright. We'll see you soon, then." They gave each other their respective goodbyes and the wizards and the witch made their way back to England in an instant.
That day was spend in their home, just enjoying their time, chatting and sharing their childhood anecdotes with Evan over a meal they prepared.
Both realised they love that little life of theirs and that there was no need to rush at all. They were in love with each other, despite thinking the plane was going down, they were with each other. It was alright. They were alright.
