Chapter 17
Our breaths were heavy as we ran through the courtyard. Moving mechanisms and boxes lay there. I stopped and looked at one. They packaging was safe, the box not even faded. "What's wrong?" Chris asked. They had all come to me. "Look at the box," I said. Taylor walked over. "Brand new..." She said.
Then the alarm went off. It's piercing noise caused my instincts to cover my ears. Chris nodded and we bolted. It wasn't until I had reached my school when we couldn't hear the noise anymore. I could see the kids coming out of the school. No one has ever broken into the warehouse. The looked in awe at the direction we had come, until someone recognized me and Jacob. We had been gone for a while.
All of there gazes soon turned to us. "The beach," I gasped. We ran off.
"Hey!"
"Come back!"
We ignored their calls and once we were at the beach I could here them no more. We glanced around, making sure no one was here. "Clear," Taylor said, walking back after checking around the ledges. "Jacob, you need to summon your tail," I said, anxious to go.
"What?" He was wide eyed. "When we're deep enough summon it, you'll know how," I said. I didn't give him a second to compose. I leaped in and waded to my waist before summoning. The others did the same and when it came to Jacob his tail emerged. It was a deep bluish purple. I could see hints of green. He was wide eyed once more, along with the others. But still, we swam off. I just followed Chris because I didn't really know my way there.
We finally came to the water fall by my grandparents office. "Un summon when you go through," Chris said to Jacob. He nodded, obviously getting used to the craziness. We leaped through, Jacob re summoning but falling at the entrance. I looked back at him and he gave me a thumbs up so I continued. "Chris?" I asked.
"This way," he nodded. We barged into the office. My grandparents were next to eachother, worried, as they talked to what I guessed sea whisp police.
"Emily!" My grandmother cried. Her and my grandpa leaped into my arms. That when I felt the hot tears.
I almost lost this. Jacob joined in. "Oh Jacob," my grandpa sighed, relieved at our return. "I must need you to explain," a police explained. So I said the whole story, everything. I watched the different expressions play on his face while I said the story. "I apologize for your loss ms. Taylor," he said on the way out. His partner followed. I sighed and sat down.
"School starts tomorrow," Chris said. I groaned, another obstacle.
People. Give me a lava lighter any day. "I'll talk to the teacher so us three have some classes together, 6 and 7th grade share classes, 8 and 9th, 10 and 11th and twelve on its own, I'm in 9th, sorry Jacob but your a grade lower than Emily," Chris explained. "Guys, I gotta go, I need to tell my parents and... Sams parents," Taylor explained. We nodded.
Then, a man came into the room, almost knocking taylor over. "The king summons you," he said to my grandparents. My grandfathers eyes sank. "Of course, this is big news..." He sighed. They both sulked to the door, but with posture of royalty. My grandmother looked me in the eyes. "Stay safe," and was gone.
"Jacob, I know some kids in your grade, you guys can hang out. I need to be with your sister... Alone," Chris said.
Jacob looked between the two of us. He slightly narrowed his eyes, and I immediately knew the look. It's the ...yeah uh huh... Look. I raised an eyebrow at him, and he smiled goofily. "Yeah, why not?" He exclaimed. Chris smiled. "Great," he said while walking out. Chris went first and when he was out of sight Jacob started forward. His smile died, he slightly tilted his head up and raised his eyebrows. I did the same and smirked. Before he disappeared behind the frame of the door he smiled.
A real smile.

I swam to my house. Whatever Chris wanted to do I was going to look nice. I put on my mothers green dress and the matching shoes. I put my curly hair in a ponytail then fishtail braided it. I found makeup in a drawer with a note saying it was mine. How they got that makeup to be that water proof is oblivious to me.
Black eyeliner marked my eyes. It started around the corners of my eyes and went on top then peeked around the edge of my bottom lid. Blush and lipgloss made my face rosier. When I was content I explored more drawers.
I found a green iPhone 5c on my bedroom counter but when I opened it the background was of me, my mom, brother and dad. It made me feel happy; instead of downloading social media I looked at the photo for five minutes, fighting the urge to cry just in case the make up turned out to not be waterproof.
The knock woke me from my memories.
So the adventure begins.
