Q: Hello Kelly, thanks for making all the graphics for our brand new SciKick profile. We love them! How are you today?

A: I'm doing great!

Q: Thank you for joining us and sharing a little more about yourself with the Wattpad universe. First off, shall we talk about you and writing? When did you first start writing?

A: I first started writing when I was maybe 7 years old. I made two or three picture books, one of them called "The Girl Who Forgot Her Backpack." At the time I thought I was a genius, and now I find my attempts adorable and funny, especially the artwork.

Q: What are your writer's best practices – doing character profiles, maps, visualization, tai chi, anything?

A: My best practice is making plot diagrams and coming up with fine details to add in chapters. Ideas are so easy to come up with, so I think I'm pretty good at that. I have a running list in my notes of all my ideas for current and future books.

Q: When and in what setting do you write best?

A: I always write the best at home on my laptop. Especially when I curl up with my laptop, I always get focused and immerse myself in writing Enhancement. Occasionally I listen to Taylor Swift when I write, but music usually distracts me. Crazy, I know!

Q: Is there anything in particular you find difficult to write about?

A: Starting a novel or a chapter is always the hardest. You never want to start off on the wrong foot, so finding those perfect words is the biggest challenge.

Q: What piece of advice has been most helpful to you since you started?

A: Honestly, I didn't have any guidance or advice when I joined Wattpad my freshman year of high school. I was on my own, venturing through the site. I believed in myself and knew I was destined to become a prominent writer. It was difficult and disheartening at times, but if I'm doing it, anyone can do it. Believe in your gut feeling. Believe it or not, I had this nagging feeling I could win a Watty, and it ACTUALLY happened. Trust yourself, and the rest will follow.

Q: What do you enjoy more – writing or having written?

A: Writing. The process of forming a story update by update is so fun. I love making a world I enjoy experiencing, even if it's a dystopia. I'm writing exactly what I've always wanted to read, and there's nothing in the world like it.

Q: What genre would you write in, if it wasn't sci-fi?

A: Probably romance. It's the broadest, coolest teen fiction genre available, however I think I'm a sci-fi writer by far. BY FAR!

Q: That's cool! And what about reading? What three genres do you read the most?

A: Science fiction, romance, and fanfiction. I love dystopian novels and adventurous romances set in high school. Plus there are some amazing fanfictions on Wattpad that have some of the most unique plots ever.

Q: Is there anything you can think of that you would love to read, only it hasn't been written yet?

A: A prequel to The Hunger Games about Haymitch's Quarter Quell or any of the Games told from another District's perspective.

Q: What book could not put down under any circumstances?

A: The Hunger Games. I read the whole series in one weekend in seventh grade. I loved it so much, and it's the series that triggered my love for dystopian fic. Currently I'm reading Illuminae by Amie Kauffman and Jay Kristoff. I find it equally as addicting.

Q: And, I know the readers would really appreciate this, tell us what inspired you to write your book on Wattpad?

A: Fun story! I was browsing Wikipedia for U.S. government experiments. I found one about the quest for a truth serum, and with a little imagination, I twisted the concept into a search for not mind control but body control. Then on a Sunday night, I sat at my mom's laptop and wrote the first chapter of Enhancement in one shot. I was so hooked and addicted to my own ideas that I knew Enhancement would be my pride and joy.

Q: Can you describe it in three words (and don't be modest!)?

A: I'd describe Enhancement as twisted, controlling, and heart-wrenching. Just read it, and you'll understand ;)

Q: Which character is the total fan favorite? Why do you think that is?

A: Tanner by far. He adds comic relief and a fun-loving spin to the story. Personally, I adore Stephen because of his traumatic experiences in Enhancement that aren't ever fully disclosed. I have a big heart for both characters.

Q: Talking about fans, can you quote the one comment on your book, which you will never forget? Please include *SPOILER* if it contains major revelations from the storyline.

A: Some of my favorite comments are ones that either make predictions that come true or comment funny reactions.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being active on Wattpad?

A: My favorite part is posting an update and people comment actively. I love seeing raw reactions to what I write and how it affects people. If I didn't join Wattpad, I'd wouldn't have a support system or the practice for book publication.

Q: How do you work on your writing style and how do you develop it?

A: I always vary my sentence structures and try to make my thoughts fluid. Recently I've been making mental outlines for a few chapters at a time, and it's been helping me stay organized very much :)

Q: Is coming up with a title a difficult task?

A: For me, titles are easy to come up with. I always have the title as a single word, so I just pick a cool-sounding word and shape my story around it.

Q: What has been your favorite part of any of your projects to write?

A: I love writing Enhancement's scenes in the Project. I find Holland and Stephen's relationship to be fun to write, especially when they first meet. Those scenes were always the easiest and the most enjoyable to write.

Q: Where are you from?

A: I'm from a small town in eastern USA. It's one of those "everyone knows everyone" kind of places.

Q: Did you ever feel like writing just wasn't for you anymore and wanted to stop?

A: I've never felt that way. Writing is just so fun, and I've never wanted to give up. Sometimes updates can be difficult to write, but I usually just fall asleep and wake up with ideas to make everything come together. Sounds ridiculous, but it works like a charm :)

Q: What was your hardest chapter to write and why?

A: My hardest chapter to write was actually chapter 69 of Enhancement. It took me about four hours to figure out how to make sense of my plan for the chapter. I always get nervous if an update doesn't have an action scene in it, so that's what made that chapter so difficult for me. Hopefully readers like it, though!

Q: How can you start a story well so that it pulls the reader in and keeps them hooked till the end?

A: I try to drop a huge cliffhanger in the first chapter. It builds anticipation and also keeps readers anxious for more. The first chapter of Enhancement has a HUGE cliffhanger.

Q: What is one thing about writing nobody told you about?

A: No one told me how challenging it is to build themes over the span of a Wattpad book. Since I update once a week, it's difficult to form a theme that encompasses the entire novel. Plus, no one told me how much revision it takes until you're satisfied with a portion of your book.

Q: Is there anything that you wish you could go back in your story and change? (Example: A character's name)

A: I wish I could show more of Stephen's background and qualities in Enhancement. I always skimmed over him so he doesn't overpower Holland, but I wish I could give him a stronger character personality.

Q: Have you considered publishing paper copies of your books?

A: Of course! I'm actually working on a expanded version of Enhancement I want to publish in the future. I plan on digging further into the past and expanding the portions of time spend in the Project.

Q: How did you start your stories? Did they end up turning out to be different from what you originally expected and had in store for them?

A: I started Enhancement with simple ideas of a Project and a SkyTrain, and then I evolved into a manipulated, controlled journey of Holland through a twisted society. I never imagined Holland experiencing so much control, but I can't wait for readers to see how it all plays out by the end of the novel.

Q: If you had to mention just one Undiscovered Gem of a story or writer on Wattpad, who would it be and why?

A: utopianism . Claire is one of those people who are funny, sweet, and can write chapters like beautiful works of art. She's phenomenal, amazing, and a great writer!

Q: And to finish off, I am going to ask you two more personal questions, but don't worry, I won't dig too deep.

1.      If you had to get up and do one of these three things right now, which would you go for?
a.      Bungee jumping
b.      Singing in front of a thousand people
c.      Running a marathon

C: The marathon. I like running!

2.      If you had to live one year without one of the three things below, which would you pick?
a.      Chocolate
b.      Ice-Cream
c.      Coffee

C: Coffee. It takes like burnt wood and paper. I'd love to live without it for a year :)

3. What is your guilty pleasure TV show?

A: Probably "Superstore," even though it's not 100% a guilty pleasure. I ADORED the American version of "The Office." "Superstore" is just as funny as "The Office" and a bit more inappropriate. It's hysterical, and I HIGHLY recommend you watch it!
