Chapter 2

"Now what have I told you about only dodging?" Sensei asked Kaylub who was on the ground for the fifth time since training started that night. Sensei decided it would be best to train under the cover of darkness to help improve Kaylub's senses so he could dodge and block better no matter what condition he found himself in.

"That it will only get predictable after a few turns," Kaylub said as he stood up rolling his shoulder which had been taking the brute force of many of his falls.

"Correct, now focus and block more often." Kaylub nods and the two go again.

Despite being smaller, younger, and less experienced than sensei, Kaylub was quick to learn and adapt finding ways to dodge and block his opponents advances. He had the highest markings in his class as the seventeen year old was either training, studying, or reading.

Thud! Kaylub landed hard on his back with a sharp intake of air.

"Kid!" Sensei rushed over to Kaylub concern visible in his red eyes. Blue eyes looked back and a pained nod followed.

"I think I landed wrong on my spine, just a sore spot, nothing to bad." Kaylub sat up slowly with the aid of sensei.

"We're done for the day."

"Yes you are." Both looked towards the voice to see four shadow people.

The one who spoke wore a grin on his face as the other three looked like scientists.

Sensei instantly drew his blade that he kept on him and stood to face the shadows.

"Now, now, there's no need, we're not feral. We just need you to come along with us for a bit of a test we're doing."

"You'll have to knock me out before I'd ever agree to such a thing." The head shadow shrugged and made a gesture as one of the scientists swiftly charged forward only to stop short as Kaylub stood between his sensei and the scientist.

"Take me," Kaylub said as everyone was in shock. "Reasoning, no one will miss me, but if you take him the entire division under his orders will come for you. Also I'm younger, more adaptable to substances, and still growing as he's fully developed thus most likely wouldn't make it through the test which brings us back to the first reasoning. Third, if you did take him, I'd come after you," the shadows shivered under the look Kaylub gave him, and without a second hesitation vanished Kaylub gone with them. I need to inform Golden Cloaked about this.

Kaylub was strapped down to a table and had a gag in his mouth. It's to prevent him from biting his own tongue off. He looked to see shadow scientists pressing buttons and preparing liquids of some variety. His eyes looked up and he started to hyperventilate as he saw the giant ray aimed directly at his heart.

"Calm down, it won't hurt...too much, well actually it'll be excruciatingly painful, but at least you won't die...hopefully." A female voice said standing near the lever to begin. She got the all clear as a pure light beam shoots down from the ray and his screams ring throughout the building.

"You do know what this means right?" Detective Shonen said as he stared down the golden uniformed detective in front of him. "All those missing reports had been kidnappings by the shadows, do you have any idea what this could mean?"

"Yes, a war between us and them. Follow me." The female stood her heels clicking down the hall as Detective Shonen was shown to a dark room.

"Wait, I know what this place is for," he says as he turns to see a gun in his face. "You don't have too."

"It seems the lose of you mentee has taken a toll on you detective. It's best if you forget what caused it. We'll ensure that Kaylub is found and returned until then have a nice nap." A ringing was heard as the woman fired her weapon.

Kaylub woke up to find himself strapped to a chair. He looked around highly confused. How did I get out of the lab? He looks up as the door opens and in walks a Detective dressed in a golden uniform. He instantly got a bad feeling by the way she was walking concluding she was concealing something, most likely a weapon.

"Please don't erase my mind. You don't understand what this could mean for our world and all the other worlds. Pleas-"

"You've been confused and held against your will by the shadows, to insure we don't have a war on our hands this must be done."

"Please, you don't understand, this is for the sake of the worlds don-" A ringing cut off Kaylub's plea as he slacks unconscious in the chair.

When Kaylub woke up he looked to his right to see sensei sitting by.

"Feeling better kid?" Kaylub nodded as he sat up with a sigh.

"Next time we go on a mission together, please let me talk before you start fighting."

"You believe you could have convinced them to not only release the kidnapped girls, but to also turn themselves in?" Kaylub nodded as sensei just sighed heavily. "Next mission, you can talk, but if things start to get dicey I want you to get out of there. You're not an official officer yet and I can't keep patching you up behind the nurses back."

"I agree to this if you promise not to pull out a gun the second you think things are dicey." Sensei sighed as he nodded his agreement.

"There's a ball tonight for the seniors, you planning on attending?" Sensei asked Kaylub as the lateral was busy working on school work he missed a week later after the incident on a mission.

"Not really, I was more thinking of staying here and reading."

"No friends to hang with?"

"You know I don't hang with friends as my focuses are set."

"Then who's officer G?"

"A female who made it her priority to constantly be around me. She's my friend, correct, but she's also a underclassman and they aren't allowed at the ball."

"Then I suppose we'll have to attend it together. I'll be back here at seven sharp." He then leaves the room leaving a rather shocked and blushing Kaylub behind.

"I heard someone is attending the ball?" G, a Golden Cloaked Officer-in-Training known for her skills with technology, asks as she enters the room not so long after sensei left.

"It's for a mission, don't get to excited." He smiled to his friend as he spun in his chair to face her. "Also no I'm not wearing a dress."

"Yes you are you don't have a choice," her sinister smile was enough to let Kaylub know there was no way out of this.

Dressed in a black dress with tints of red within its seams and wearing black flats as his hair was done and a blush applied to his cheek.

"Perfect, have fun." She then disappeared as Kaylub messed with his dress.

At seven Kaylub straightened himself up and nodded to his reflection in the mirror before opening the door to see sensei in a black tuxedo with a blue flower in his pocket.

"Are you ready?" Kaylub gives him a nod as sensei offers him his arm and the smaller of the two takes it.

"Target and reason," Kaylub said as the two walked.

"A fellow senior, he stole vital transportation information for traveling to other dimensions. We need to find out why and get the information back." Kaylub nodded as the two entered the ballroom that was already packed with people dancing together.

"Shall we?" sensei offered his hand to Kaylub who took it and the two began to dance together.

A male with dark brown eyes was dancing with a girl with hazel eyes and then spun her as the switch was happening. When he looked down to his new partner he looked into bright blue eyes and smirked.

"Well hello, didn't think you'd actually enjoy these sorts of things bookworm," the fellow senior addressed Kaylub by the nickname the class gave him.

"True, I'm only here because I was forced to by my friend. Tristan why are you here?" He asked as the other male, known as Tristan, spun him in a circle.

"Thought I'd come out and enjoy my last day here." This raised an eyebrow from Kaylub.

"You planning on going somewhere?"

"Yep, far away from here."

"Another dimension?"

"We should talk somewhere more private." He led Kaylub by the hand outside of the ballroom.

"You're not worried for him?" A female with hazel eyes asked Shonen who was dancing with her.

"He's smart and skilled. He knows to be careful."

"Then why is he leaving with him?"

"What?!" Shonen looks to where the two boys were walking off together. He takes the females hand and the two follow after the two and pass by a closet.

"I knew there were Black Cloaked here." Tristan said as he looked from the door to Kaylub who was standing there looking up at him with a raised brow.

"Yeah, if you take information on dimensional travel from the capital they would send us after you. You do know you could just ask the travel guides to travel to a dimension correct?"

"Yes, but it's only for those rich people...wait did you say us?" He looked at Kaylub in disbelief.

"Actually it for all citizens and you can explain your reasoning when you hand over the information and come with me."

"Promise I won't get sentenced for this?"

"It was a misunderstanding, you'll just be kicked from the force and kept an eye on." He nods and sighs.

"Okay let's go." He steps out of the closet to have a gun in his face.

"Sensei!" Kaylub stepped from behind Tristan holding the information in his hand. "Didn't we agree to not pulling out weapons." Sensei sighed and slipped his gun back into it's holster.

"What did you find out?"

"All a misunderstanding with the travel agency." Sensei nods as the female arrests Tristan.

Kaylub sat in his room reading a book he had checked out of the library when the door opens.

"Hello, sensei, when are we leaving?" He could tell by the harsh breathing, rough entry, and the way his sensei tried to recompose himself that it was a mission and they had to be leaving soon.

"Put the book down we're leaving now." Kaylub nodded placing his book down and putting on his shoes as the two of them left.

"This mission isn't like any before. They are willing to kill, and I doubt they'd like to talk. This is a group we've been trying to find for years as they take girls from multiple different dimensions and sell them to the highest bidder on the black market of the multi-dimensions. We finally found their base of operation, but we need to be positive they don't currently have any girls on them so we can easily attack without fear of casualties." Kaylub nodded as he was briefed on the mission.the hazel eyed female from before was sitting across from the two.

"It's just the three of us here to scout for any girls."

"That means, don't engage with the enemy, we are the stealthiest among the Black Cloaked so that's why there's only three of us."

It was quiet the rest of the way as the three sat there each in their own thoughts on the mission.

Once arrived, the three decided to split up to cover more ground and to avoid getting caught.

Kaylub walked around focused on sound as he went through hallway after hallway. He had a feeling as if something was watching him, but shook it off as he noticed security cameras. He arrived at a room and then entered it without checking as the feeling of being followed was getting stronger. He looked up to see the entire gang with guns aimed at him.

"Oops wrong room." He put his hands up as he scanned over each and everyone of them. He then heard a cocking of a gun near him and jumped in between sensei and the gang leader. "Don't shoot, let's just talk."

"Are you really that dumb kid?" The leader asked Kaylub who turned and shrugged.

"I mean I know your guns aren't loaded and they're only for show. Also your whole "gang" is actually a rescue force who takes girls away from people and places who plan on selling them and you return them home. You only act menacing as a cover up so no one would question you and the people who do have the girls will easily just give them over to you." The leader blinks at Kaylub before a shot rings out and the leader is holding his arm blood dripping down at an alarming rate. "No!"

Kaylub swiftly turns to the hazel eyed female as a light glows softly from somewhere.

"Kaylub, your hand." Kaylub looks down to see that his hand was giving off the glow and his eyes refocused on the shooter in the room.

"You're not her, you're a feral." He shoots the light from his hand at her instantly causing her to lose her physical form and dissipate.

There was clapping as Kaylub turned to see no other then the black eyes of the shadow prince looking at him with such a kind expression.

"It seems that instincts never really go away." He walked forward only to find a blade to his throat. He looked out of the corner of his eye to see sensei daring him to step closer. "Ah yes, Detective Shonen, one of the few on the force who can actually handle our kind. You don't have to worry, I would never hurt the light."

"The what?" The prince looks back at Kaylub and sighs noticing the clouding of his eyes when he tries to think about what he just said.

"They blocked your memories, let me fix that." He tried to step forward, but the blade only became stronger against his throat.

"Sensei, he isn't going to hurt me." The blade was removed as shadow prince placed his hands on both temples on Kaylub's head.

A flood of memories came rushing back as Kaylub recalled being in the facility, the initial injection, the training, and the feeling of his true self rushing through him. He took a step back with a gasp.

"I was taken," Kaylub said.

"No, I would have done something."

"Actually, it was you he was protecting. He gave himself up for you."

"How come I don't remember...wait?"

"Yep your mind is also foggy. Excuse me I have to have a word with someone." The shadow prince then dissolves back into the shadows as time seemed to restart and Kaylub instantly rushes over to aid the leader of the rescue force.

"You better have a very good reason as to why our light had his memories blocked." The superintendent spun around and looked at the very pissed shadow prince.

"Well it would have caused pandemonium if everyone knew that people were being taken by the shadow prince for his experimentation."

"I don't care about the other people, all I care about is our light, whom you erased all memory of his destiny thus prolonging the end of all ferals and the saving of the worlds." He stepped forward with emphasis as the room grew darker with each step.

"Okay, I see my mistake, I'll have the Chief of Black Cloaked-"

"No, let me stop you there. I don't want you to be involved with our light any longer, you had your chance now the light is under my jurisdiction and if you dare lay a finger on him we will have a war and it won't be pretty. The only one allowed to have any contact with him under your jurisdiction is his mentor, Detective Shonen, whom I'm sure will be pleased with learning the complete truth of what you did and what it means for other worlds as a whole." He then dissipates before appearing within Kaylub's room.

"Graduation is in two days, that'll give me enough time to charge up and then protect this planet. After that then I'll be ready...my prince," Kaylub said as he turned to see the smiling face of the Shadow prince.

"Anything you say, my light, you're the hope for not only my people, but the people of every world." The two share a knowing look before the prince vanishes returning home.

Graduation day arrived and all the officers who were graduating were standing with their mentors. Kaylub stood with sensei as he was the first to receive his badge and official placement within the Black Cloaked branch. He was told he would be working under Detective Shonen as the two shared a knowing look. The rest of the ceremony consisted of the other students receiving their placements and badges. After all was done, the new officers of the IPF decided to throw a celebration. Kaylub was outside staring up into the night sky at the stars which shone brightly in the sky.

"Knew I'd find you out here."

"No you didn't, you checked my room then decided to check the second best place besides the library which is closed," Kaylub said as he turned with a smile to his mentor and first friend Detective Shonen.

"You always were very accurate with your findings." He smiled as the two stood together blue and red eyes on the stars. "When you're gone, I'm still going to need your assistants with criminals."

"Of course just call me on the mental hotline and I'll pick up."

Kaylub then took a deep breath and took a few steps forward. A light ball grew in his hands before he touched the ground and his eyes turned pure white. A sphere of light engulfed him then expanded from him. His eyes returned to a bright blue as he looked towards where Detective Shonen was standing, but wasn't looking at him.

"I know you felt that, tell the other ferals that if they dare step foot on this world...well they won't be able to because they'll die instantly. Go." His attention then turned to the shadow prince. "It's called light protection, it takes me half a year to charge it up, it covers the world in an invisible light shield that only harms ferals and if they try to enter a world that has light protection they instantly disintegrate." He then turns to his mentor/boss. "I'll be needing a telewatch so I can easily get from one world to another, and yes I know it's random that's the point. I know each world and I can't be the one to choose where to go. Also the watch will allow me to set a timer for six months while light protection recharges. And before you ask yes I can still fight ferals while light protection is recharging." He looked between the two to see if they had any questions he didn't answer and was pleased to see he had answered them all.

"I'll ensure you're provided for during your half-a-year stay on each world, and tomorrow I'll give you the telewatch as well as the tour of our work space." This earns a nod from Kaylub who falls back and lays on the grass observing the stars while he thinks of the worlds he needs to protect.

The next day came swiftly as Kaylub stood in front of the Black Cloaked station. He was wearing his new uniform and his badge as he entered the building.

"Good, follow me," Detective Shonen leads Kaylub around the office, introducing him to other officers, and showing him the interrogation room which had a mental link setup within in it in case an officer was off world. "Lastly here," he not only hands him the telewatch, but also a laptop. "So you can do reports while your away." Kaylub gives his mentor a nod as he slips on the telewatch.

"And kid, one last thing, be safe." A soft smile was what he got in return before Kaylub vanished in a spectacle of lights.
