Chapter 3

Recap

"Come in, " I said softly, trying not to cry. He walked closer to the door but didn't come in. Instead he looked back and a sob came from his lips as he looked around. I knew he was looking for his mother. I got on one knee to get to his level. " Hey, it's okay. Don't cry" I comforted.

He looked back at me with those cute eyes. He looks so much like him. All of a sudden he wraps his small arms around my shoulders and barriers his face in my neck. Out of instinct I put my hand under his bottom and picked him up.

" Shh it's okay." I patted his back as I swayed back and forth. After he calmed down I walked to the kitchen with him still in my arms. I placed him on the counter. I stayed in front of him so he wouldn't fall. I sighed to myself. What do I do now?

Omniscient POV

Flashback

"You seriously, don't want kids?" Melanie's pregnant sister , Mia asked from across the hospital room. Their best friend and cousin, China, had just given birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy.

" Chile I didn't even want mine" China joked as she gave a small laugh from the hospital bed. " Shidd, a bitch got caught up"

Melanie laughed at her silliness. " I'll never say never, I'm only 21. But as of right now, I have no desire to be somebody's mother. That's y'all that's on some pregnancy pack shit."

" Trust me we did not plan this. I feel like Jared's ass knocked me up on purpose." Mia scowled as she rubbed her hand around her 7 month baby bump.

" There's no doubt in my mind that he did. You were finally done with his ass then boom pregnant." China explained flailing her arms as if she didn't just give birth in dramatics.

" It was bound to happen that she was not letting that good dick go." Melanie teased.

Mia was only two years older than Melanie. She had been with her current on again and off again boyfriend for years. Unlike Melanie and Mia, China was not in a committed relationship but in her three month challenge of no sex, one night on the town changed her life forever. She had met this dude at a club then all of sudden she was on a weekend getaway.

" You're going to end up like us one day with the way you and Kaden have been going at it." Mia gave Melanie a look causing China to snap her head at her.

"Bitch you've been having the sex and didn't tell me." China gasped.

"Mia" Melanie whined as she coward to her own personal corner.

" Sorry boo, I thought she knew. It's been months." Mia silently cursed herself. " Blame the pregnancy brain, not me."

" Girl I'm not even mad..My nosy butt just wants to know how y'all went from him eating you out a couple times to him blowing your back out? Was it good? Have you started doing tricks yet?

" China!" Melanie squirmed before they all busted in uncontrollable laughter.

" Oh shit, stop laughing that hurts. " China couched herself between giggles. " Girl you will have to excuse me, I haven't had any in a minute, my bad."

Melanie shook her head at them but oh she loves her girls so much. " It was good enough for me to immediately go to my gynecologist and get the shot. Ain't no babies coming out of me. Even though Kaden been talking heavy on marriage and whatnot, we both agreed we don't want kids"

Mia and China both became quiet as they looked at each other. It was like they were having a conversation with each other. It's not that they wanted Melanie to have kids or were ever going to force her but they new that Melanie would be singing a different tune eventually.

Melanie POV

The little boy looked around the kitchen as I stared at his features. He is a beautiful mix of both Kaden and the woman. Kaden would be a complete idiot if he denies this baby. How can he cheat on me? The boy cannot be older than 4. We've been together since high school. We have never been apart. We never had a big enough disagreement to break up or walk out on our relationship. It was hard not to think about the swarm of possibilities.

Did I do something wrong for him to step out on me?

Was he not satisfied?

Thoughts continued to roam through my mind until I felt a small finger tap my chin. I focused my attention on him, my tears begging to spill. As soon as his eyes met mine tears fell and burned as my eyes were bleeding. He hesitantly lifted his small hand and caressed my cheek, wiping the tears away. I frowned at the sudden tug of my heart as I gazed into his eyes.

" It's okay, don't cry." He repeated what I had said at the door.

I giggled at his cuteness causing him to laugh as well. His cheeks began to expose his hidden dimples as his smile lit up the entire room.

" What do I call you?" He asked me while he swung his feet.

It amazes me how his whole mood changed in a matter of seconds. While, I was still trying to process all that had happened just a few moments ago.

" My name is Melanie." I told him, taking a moment to wipe my own tears away.

He burst into a laughing fit. " Your name sounds like melon. Like Watermelon. I like watermelon, but not all the time. It hurts my tummy sometimes. That's why..."

He went on and on about how my name sounds like melon then drifted off to his favorite things to eat, which led to the big question...

"Do you have chicken nuggets?"

" Today just might be your lucky day, kiddo" I answered looking through the refrigerator. Once I saw them I put them to the side then grabbed him off the counter.

As soon as his feet touched the ground he grabbed onto my leg obviously comfortable with me, but unsure about the unfamiliar space he's in. I didn't mind since it was almost a pacifier to keep it together for his sake.

After the chicken nuggets and fries were done, I found myself rummaging through the many papers that were given to me on the couch, while the little boy ate his food. A lot of the papers were just a bunch of unnecessary documents from past doctor appointments and day care reports. One document in particular caught my eye, his birth certificate. My eyes immediately shot down to the very bottom of the page, where the parents' signatures were.

" Mother.. Jasmine Wyatt. Father..."

Father: Kaden Chandler Davis

I sighed inwardly seeing his distinctive signature was right under his name. This document is not a copy of his birth certificate. No one could have copied and pasted. This is the real deal. No matter how in your face this was, I couldn't believe Kaden would do this. I scanned through the rest of the inked paper and what I saw made my heart drop.

" You have his name" I choked out.

I tried to suppress the sob that was daring to come out. " Y- your name is... your name is Kaden" Tears began to spew from my eyes.

" You can call me Kj if you like. That's what my mommy calls me" He said with sad eyes. He has now abandoned his favorite meal because of my crying.

Instead of looking at his birth certificate to find out on my own I asked him how old he was.

" Three"

I sighed as I tried to wipe my tears. Kj climbed into my lap and rested his head on my chest. Any other time, I would feel uncomfortable. I hardly ever held my nieces and nephews, but with him it felt right.

I grabbed my phone that was laying beside me and searched for a picture of Kaden.

" Umm, Kj, Do you know who this man is?" I asked hoping that he didn't.

" That's my daddy."

"Buzz Buzz" My phone continuously vibrates as I slept. I was contemplating on whether or not I wanted to ignore it. I felt something shift on me. I quickly opened my eyes and realized it was Kj. He was straddling me while I was sprawled out on the couch.

He began to whine in his sleep as my phone rang loudly signaling an incoming call. Not wanting him to wake up, I quickly answered my phone not looking to see who was calling.

" Melanie, where are you girls? Are you coming or not?" China asked.

" I already told you she is not coming. She has to tend to her man." My sister, Mya, said annoyed. Soon China and Mya began to bicker while I'm just sitting here listening to them talk about me.

I tried getting up from the couch in order to talk to them as freely as I wanted without waking Kj only for him to whine and hold on to my waist tightly. For a three year old he sure is strong.

" Hey china. I'm not able to make it. Something came up. I will talk to y'all later alright?" Before she could answer I hung up.

Almost immediately, I got a text from her.

I know you just didn't hang up on me. received 9:37

Oh so you just gonna read my message. Received 9:38

Seriously Melanie you could have gotten off the app if you didn't want to talk to me. Received 9:41

Fine then. You're getting your butt kicked when I see you. Received 9:42

Moments later, I heard the front door open.

" Baby I'm home!" he shouted.

" Babe?"

He walked further into the house and smiled when he noticed me.

" what you cook because yo boy starving? " He said while walking towards the coat closet to put his things away. Once he turned around he froze, finally seeing Kj asleep in my arms.

" Whose child you holding?"
