Joe's World
"We should turn in."
"Oh I think I'll stay out a little while longer." Arvilla smiles.
"You want us to stay with you?"
"No, it's okay. I need to be alone. You guys get some sleep."
"Well if you're staying up, take this." Emmett places a blanket over Arvilla's shoulders.

"Oh thank you." She smiles.
"You're welcome."
Arvilla sat there alone and just enjoyed the peace.

"Well Joe.. We're having a baby." Arvilla giggles.
"Crazy..
I really wish you were here to go through this with me. I've never done this before! I have absolutely no idea what I am doing!" Tears slowly roll down Arvilla's cheeks.
"It would have been so great to have you there to walk me through it..
I guess I will in a way. I know you'll help me. I just ask that you send a happy and healthy baby.
.... And also if you have any input in this kind of thing, give me a short, easy labor! Please and thank you, baby!" Arvilla smiles up to the sky.
Arvilla didn't know, but Carol laid down watching her every move.
She even saw Arvilla take a bit of Joe for herself.

The next morning.
"Oh the poor thing. That looks so uncomfortable! Let me wake her."

"Yeah, we should probably get on the road." Margene says.
"Arvilla?
.. Arvilla."
"Hm? Where's Joe?" Arvilla sits up in a panic.
"I have him, I have him."
"Oh." Arvilla sighs and grabs her head.

"We have to go." Carol takes Arvilla's hand and helps her up. "Let's go, honey."
"Oh my." Arvilla sighs. "Here, I'll take..." She holds her hands out for Joe's urn.
"I've got him. You wake up."
"Ohh.. Okay, thank you." Just then Arvilla then places her hand on her stomach and closes her eyes.
"Are you okay?"
Arvilla couldn't hold it back, and she threw up in front of Carol.
"Oh gosh! Honey, I'm so sorry!"
"Don't be sorry! I know how brutal morning sickness can be." Carol softly rubs her hand up and down Arvilla's back.
"Ugh. This is so gross!"
"I'm sorry.
Do you feel better at least?"
"No!" Arvilla answers with an attitude.
"Oh."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be rude! Today is just stressful enough already." Arvilla sighs. "I'm so nervous!"
"You have Margene and I. We won't leave your side."
Arvilla then vomits once again.
"Ugh! Thanks. I appreciate you both. God, I'm gross!"
"You're not gross. Pregnancy is." Carol says making Arvilla chuckle as she softly rubs her hand on her stomach.
**
Arvilla watched Emmett and Margene together. She was happy for her friend, but she wished so badly she could have that again.
"Margene?"
"Yeah?"
"You don't have to come."
"Yes I do."
"Yes you do." Emmet smiles.

"Oh!"
Emmett walks over and hugs and kisses Margene.
Arvilla takes a deep breath as she remembers what kissing Joe feels like.
"I'll see you in a week." Emmett says.
"Mhmm."
"You girls behave yourselves!"
"We'll try! Arvilla laughs. "Goodbye, Emmett. Thank you!"
"My pleasure! Congratulations again."
"Thank you!" She smiles.
**
An hour later.
"Arvilla, let me drive so you can eat!"
"Carol, I has two sandwiches. I'm okay.
There's one baby in there, not a whole football team!" Arvilla chuckles and pats her stomach.
"Well drink some water."
"I had some already, thank you. I just need to focus on getting there."
"Alright.."
**
A little later.
"How much farther is it?" Margene asks, changing her clothes in her seat.
"Not far." Arvilla says.
"Hurry up! Hurry up! One of you is gonna have to drive so I can change!" Arvilla laughs as she takes her sweater off while driving.

Just then they hear sirens.
"Oh no!"
"Now we've done it!"
...
"License and registration."
"Please, we're in a hurry!" Arvilla says.
"It's an emergency!"
"Oh course it is. Life or death?"
"Death!" All three answer.
**
"Here it is." Arvilla parks.
Margene and Carol get out of the car.
"Arvilla?"
Arvilla just stares straight ahead.
"Arvilla, you okay?"
"I can't do it. I can't go in there. I don't want her to have him. I don't want his ashes sprinkled over his ex wife."
"Arvilla. Remember the house."
"I'd rather be homeless."
"Arvilla.. you have to think about the baby too." Carol says.
Arvilla sighs and runs her hand through her hair.
"What will the baby think when he or she finds out mommy didn't listen to daddy's last wishes?"
"Arvilla."
"Joe would want you to do this. He would want you to keep the house for you and the baby. That house holds so many memories!" Carol says.
After a few deep breaths, Arvilla looks up to her friends.
"Okay. I have to do this. For the baby."
She then opens the urn and looks inside.
"I love you, Joe. I hope you aren't mad at me."
Arvilla then closes it and places a soft kiss on the urn.
**
"I'm sorry to have kept you all waiting but..
I was waiting for my father."

Arvilla walks up to Francine.
"I'm sorry we're late... I'm sorry."
"Thank you."
Francine begins talking about her father.
Arvilla shuts her eyes.

She totally zoned, but heard Francine thank her for bringing her father home where he belonged.
Then, like Joe was up looking out for his beautiful wife, Francine fell. Unfortunately Joe fell with her.
"Ah!" Arvilla jumped and covered her mouth.

Francine looks down and sees that most of her father is gone.
"Where is my father?"
"Where he wanted to be.
All the places he loved, including right here with you." Arvilla says.
"I guess you all got a good laugh out of this, didn't you?"
"No we didn't.."
"I wish daddy had never met out."
Hearing that hurt Arvilla so badly.
"I want you out of daddy's house!"
Margene and Carol take Arvilla out as she tries hard to keep her tears in.
She was humiliated in front of everyone!
Arvilla felt sick to her stomach. She felt terrible. She didn't mean to hurt anyone.

Francine then came out and made a horrible face at Arvilla. Didn't say a single word. Just gave her the meanest look.
"Francine, I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry!" Arvilla let's out a sob. "I didn't mean to-"
"I know." Carol says. "Let me drive." She helps her friend in the car.

"I-I don't know what I was thinking! Did I actually think she'd just take it and not look inside?"
"Don't get so upset, honey." Margene rubs her back.
"I just.. I wanted Joe to get what he wanted.. Joe Holden deserves the world." She cries.
"Arvilla.. I know Joe. With you he had the world." Margene said.
"That's sweet of you but-"
"She's right, Arvilla. You were Joe's world."
Arvilla looks straight ahead with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"He's my world too. He always will be."
