Chapter Twenty-six: Lost Some Love
Smother - Daughter
Millie's P.O.V
Dark grey clouds surrounded the sky. Large drops of rain were falling fast just like my tears streaming down my cheeks. I stared at my father's white coffin. I stood silently still with Finn on my side. He had his arm wrapped around my waist with his other holding up an umbrella that we were both sharing. My black dress was constantly getting splashed by the large raindrops. I was too distracted to even care.
Several families and friends came to the funeral all wearing black. We all stood in silence watching the coffin roll down into the dirt. Pain, numbness, heartache was constantly flowing through me. Several people came up to me saying "goodbye" and "sorry for your loss" and leaves. More and more people were leaving until it was only me and Finn left.
"Are you ready to go?" He asks softly. I nod slightly and turned around not turning back. Finn guided me to his car and opened the passenger's door. Once I was inside he entered the driver's seat. He turned on the engine and drove off.
The radio was off which caused the car to be dead silent. I watched the large raindrops bounce against the windows of Finn's car as he drives through the freeway. I leaned my head against the window causing my window to fog up for a second.
"Can I stay at your place tonight?" I asked as I stared at my window.
"Uhh sure, but do you wanna get some clothes at your place?"
"No," I quickly replied with no hesitation. I don't want to see that house. The memories of the cherry red blood puddling up on the floor were flowing back to me. The sound of those eleven bullets haunts me. Finn nods as he stares at the road. I felt Finn's hand on top of mine. I slowly turn my hand around for him to wrap his hand around mine.
We reached Finn's mansion with the morning rain still pouring. He stepped out of his car and opened up his umbrella and heads to my side. He opens my door wide for me to come out. I quickly step out of his car and head to the front door of his house. Finn pulled out his keys from his pocket and unlocks the front door letting me go in first. He pulls off his jacket and hands it on the coat rack that was near the entrance.
My grabs my wrist and guides me into his house. We reached the living room; Finn makes me take a seat on the large sofa and tells me to wait. I hear his footsteps go up the large spiral staircase. A lot was going through my mind. Where the hell am I supposed to go if I have no guardian? My father never had any siblings so would that mean I'd have to go through foster care? I heard footsteps coming near.
I look up seeing Finn with some clothes in his hand; the same clothes that I wore the last time I was here. I walked into the bathroom and faced the mirror. My short brown hair was drenched from the rain. My makeup was dripping down my cheeks with my tears. I placed my hands on the sink as I stare at myself in the mirror. I heard a knock on the door bringing me back to reality.
"Are you okay in there?" Finn asks. I sniff a couple of times and quickly wipe away my tears with the back of my hands.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said back.
"Okay," I hear his footsteps fade away. I splashed my face with water washing my makeup off. I slipped on the sweatpants and the sweatshirt and tide my hair up and slowly walked out of the bathroom seeing Finn with some sweatpants on similar to mine and a t-shirt in the kitchen.
He turns around hearing my footsteps. Once I reached him he quickly wrapped his arms around me. I do the same and dig my face into his neck feeling his warm skin against mine. His familiar sent gave me comfort.
"Can we go to your room?" I asked as I pull away from the hug.
"Sure," He says softly. He wraps his hand around mine and guides me into his room. I walk into his room seeing the familiar bed. His large window that was the size of the wall showed a beautiful view. Finn placed several blankets and pillows on the ground in front of his large window. I slowly walk up to his record player.
Several reconds were sitting beside it. I started going through it seeing many familiar albums and bands. I kept reading through all of them until one record caught my eye. It was a record by Daughter, a small smile lifts on my lips. I didn't think Finn would ever buy this kind of music. I pulled out the record and placed it on the record player.
The guitar started to softly echo in Finn's room. I turn around seeing Finn sitting comfortably staring out the window. I sit beside him and look out the window. The rain was still pouring. Dark grey clouds were covering every blue in the sky. The sound of the rain hitting the ground gave me comfort. We both sat in silence for almost an hour listening to the calming music.
"I promised my father something," I said calmly. This quickly grabbed Finn's attention.
"I promised that whatever makes my life better, keep it." Finn stayed silent.
"These pasts few months have been the best times that I've ever had. Ever since I met you things were getting better and better." I turn to him seeing a smile on his lips.
"Can you promise me something, Finn?" He nods.
"No matter how much life hurts us you will stay by my side no matter what," I said as I grab his hands. "I promise," He says softly. Tears started to swell up in my eyes when I heard those two words. I quickly wrap my arms around him tightly. Tears of joy were dripping down my cheek.
"I love you, Millie," He whispers in my ear.
"I love you too Finn," I whispered back.
