"BUCKY, I THINK IT'S REAL." Bronwen bit down on her lip, pressing her arms against herself. She was afraid, more than afraid, as the nightmares were becoming clearer and clearer.
The last one, God, she couldn't think about it. There were news broadcasts through windows and what she saw— she wanted to forget. Bronwen could not accept the fate that she saw.
Bucky's gaze dropped to hers, they sat across from each other, the empty void behind providing warmth in that darkness, "The dreams?"
She nodded, her breath hitching in her throat, "I... I don't know what they've done to me."
Bucky knew what she meant.
Bronwen ran a hand through her hair, shaking it into her eyes and corrected herself, "Well, I don't know everything they did to me. Maybe this is one of them— maybe I have the ability to see the future along with my... other abilities."
The pair were silent for a moment, mulling over the information. Processing it.
"They planned this, didn't they?" She asked, her voice quiet.
They both knew the answer, the compound had been planning this from the start, even when they were named HYDRA. During the collapse of the two organisations, HYDRA and SHIELD, a singular file was stolen that had never been documented. The file that turned Bronwen into what she was — 024. Only to be raced away in an attempted rescue mission, as SHIELD knew of what the compound strived to achieve, and they took their only surviving test subject away from them for little over a year. Bronwen had been saved, with false memories planted in mind, only to be returned to her original station. The tests were quickened, and she became 024. It was six years before Bronwen remembered anything, where she was sent to Queens in hope for her to test her powers. To test herself in a situation the compound couldn't control. They had no idea what she would do— but they could predict. They had predictions of Bronwen befriending Peter, of Bronwen training herself to use her powers. Though the compound never thought of Tony Stark getting involved, and they were sure he was chasing their tail. Neither Bronwen or Bucky knew that if they retraced their steps to the compound, it would be deserted. They'd cleared out as soon as Bronwen was taken to Wakanda that unfateful night.
The compound had planned their meeting since Bronwen's birth, they established a link between the pair. Even though the children at the compound thought her to be stupid, slow and young, the compound knew of her capabilities. They dreamed that Bronwen would work along with the Winter Soldier, that they would be an unstoppable team. A pair not even the Avengers could chase.
Bronwen didn't know any of this. If she did, she was sure to be destroyed.
"How's the kid?"
Flash. A way to change the subject.
"Nothing's broken, thank God. I feel bad for punching him."
Bucky grinned, "Just don't get into too much trouble, please?"
She laughed, and as she shook her head blonde locks fell into her sight, "I'll try."
"No, really, I don't want to have to fly over there and hold you back from a fight."
Bronwen pursed her lips, and stood.
She didn't wait for Bucky's reply before she woke up, the sun blaring through the curtains, screaming at her that is was day.

"How's school going?"
Bronwen shrugged, her feet swaying beneath her as she bit into her food. Gwen had made something Bronwen hadn't tried before, and the explosion of tastes and textures in her mouth was an uncanny feeling.
She swallowed, "Okay, I guess."
"No more fights?"
She shook her head, "No more fights."
"Good." A pause, "Oh, and I forgot to mention, you've got a trip to MOMA tomorrow. You going to be alright?"
"I've got Peter."
"Okay. Get some sleep, Annie. I'll see you in the morning."

So when I said that I was almost at the hardest part. I lied, I am now. Here you go. Part 2.
