Chapter 4
Jungkook would be lying to himself if he said he wasn't at least a little bit excited.
He rummaged through his wardrobe, pulling out a smart-casual chequered button-up and black skinny jeans, slipping them on before pulling on his red beanie. After looking at it in the mirror for a few minutes, he decided against the hat and took it off, ruffling his hair before taming it by combing his fingers through.
Satisfied, he grabbed his phone and slipped it into his pocket before heading out. He'd purposely called in sick, saying he'd come in for the afternoon shift 'if he was feeling better.'
His small metallic grey BMW was parked in his designated spot and he smiled; he loved his little car. Settling into the driver's seat he was off onto the road within seconds.
Jungkook sat patiently waiting at the table. He kept glancing at his watch, which currently displayed the time as 12:25pm.
Maybe she's just running late.
He began to frown. He did write the time and place correctly didn't he? He was sure he did; he'd checked the card multiple times.
Maybe she was busy.
How was Jungkook supposed to know? He'd left his phone number on the slip of card and his eyes were drawn to the phone every few seconds, but there were no new messages or calls. With a sigh, he bit his lip, suddenly feeling disheartened. Surely she'd at least message to say if she wasn't making it? He knew it was short notice and that too with basically a stranger but he was only trying to be nice. Plus, he had a few things he wanted to confirm...
"Sir? Can I take your order now?"
A tall waiter smiled at him and poised his notebook ready to write his order, but Jungkook shook his head. "I'm actually waiting for someone..."
He didn't miss the sympathetic look that flashed across the waiter's face and so he looked away.
"Of course Sir," With a nod the waiter left, and Jungkook resumed the task of staring at his phone screen in the hopes of a message. The minutes continued to tick away, and after the clock struck 1:00pm, he begrudgingly accepted that it was time for him to leave; he apologised on the way out and ignored the sympathy that crossed the waiter's face once more.
Or maybe she just wasn't interested.
Seulbi stood at the street corner, dressed in black jeans and an oversized jacket coupled with a huge black scarf to cover the majority of her face. From her place, she could clearly see through the window of the restaurant; she could see the boy sitting at a table near the back. He was twiddling his thumbs and biting his bottom lip, checking his phone every few seconds. He'd left his number on the card but not his name, strangely enough.
She wasn't sure how long she stood observing for, but when he began to stand up and slip on his jacket she turned away, unable to look at his dejected expression. Seulbi began to walk away, not sparing a glance behind, leaving the area and heading back home.
I'm sorry.
"So how'd it go?"
Taehyung was currently in Jungkook's apartment, munching on his third bag of Doritos before the younger boy snatched them from him with a grumble of, 'don't be such a pig - what's the point in going to the gym?'
To which Taehyung simply replied, "I go to the gym so that I'm able to eat whatever I want. Give them back." He made grabby hands towards the crisps and Jungkook sighed, shaking his head but handing over the crisps none the less.
"You didn't answer my question."
Jungkook knew he hadn't answered his friend's question. He sighed, before plastering a fake smile.
"Ah she didn't turn up, but it's okay," He chuckled, waving his hand vaguely and grabbing the remote to put something on the TV.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Your face doesn't say it's okay."
Jungkook frowned internally, forgetting sometimes that Taehyung knew him better than he knew himself.
"Do you know why?" The elder asked, placing a small handful of crisps into his mouth which made the younger snigger as Taehyung began to cough.
"No," Jungkook shrugged, "She didn't message anything. I mean I am just stranger so..." He shrugged again so Taehyung would drop the topic but of course, he wouldn't.
"You were trying to be nice! One text isn't going to harm anyone," He grumbled, stuffing his face with the remnants of the bag of Doritos before eyeing the last bag which was next to the younger boy.
"No." Jungkook laughed, grabbing the bag causing Taehyung to pout. "No more."
"But Jungkookie..."
"No hyung," Jungkook grinned cheekily, and Taehyung rolled his eyes but smiled none the less.
"Well have you knocked on her door?"
"Why would I do that?" Jungkook shrugged again and Taehyung placed his hands on the younger's shoulders.
"Stop. Shrugging. It's. Annoying."
Jungkook merely chuckled, brushing off the boy's hands. "Sorry. But whatever, I apologised, she doesn't want to see me, end of story."
"But Jungkook." Taehyung pouted again and the younger knew what he was going to say even before he said it aloud. "This is the first time I've seen you actually interested in a girl."
"I'm not interested hyung," Jungkook sighed exasperatedly. "I was just being polite."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "If you were simply being polite, you would have given her the bouquet and that would be it. You wouldn't have asked her out to lunch."
Jungkook bit his lip. Taehyung was absolutely right.
"Well it doesn't matter anyway. We can't just date anyone, you know that." Jungkook was about to shrug again before halting the gesture before Tae told him off.
"But you never know, she might be-"
"Hyung." Jungkook gave him a warning glance. "I'm not going to get my hopes up only for her not to be one. Best if I just stay away."
Taehyung sighed, knowing that the younger was stubborn and once he'd made up his mind he was adamant to stick to it.
But what Taehyung didn't know was that Jungkook hadn't made up his mind at all; Jungkook was wavering at what Taehyung had said.
Was he actually interested in this girl he'd barely spoken to?
He wasn't sure. And he wasn't sure if he could stay away from her.
