Chapter 10
He glanced down at his watch, "shoot! If we don't get going soon we won't have enough time to do the stuff that I planned for us today."
I stuffed the last of the sandwich in my mouth, "Alright, let's go." Natsu helped me off the ground and gathered all the picnic stuff. I was honestly excited to see what Natsu had planned for us today. I haven't been this anxious and excited in a long time.
He took my hand in his, "I think you'll like what I have planned for us next."
"What is it?"
"You'll see." he winked.
I was about to hop out of my seat at any moment. The suspense is killing me!
I tugged on his shirt, "You're killing me! Where are we going?"
"Fine, I'll tell you." He chuckled, "To a poetry slam."
I squealed causing him to swerve a little, "I love poetry! They have places that are specifically for poetry?!"
"You don't get out much do you?"
"No not really, I don't really like going out that much."
"Are you afraid of the outside world or something?"
"No." I hit his shoulder playfully, "I just don't have any friends to hang out with."
"Well you have me now, so don't worry."
"I know," I smiled at him. He turned to me but quickly turned back to the road with a distorted look on his face.
"What's with the face?" I asked.
"What face? This is just my face," he said a little too quickly.
"Why are you making that ugly face?" I raised my brow.
"I told you this is just my face."
Such a little liar.
He turned into this small building, "we're here."
I looked out my window, excited, "is this the place!?"
"Yep." He got out his car and opened the door for me.
I walked inside and it had this fresh aroma of vanilla candles and fresh coffee.
My life is complete!
"Alright! next up is Alyssa with her poem, distant." The crowd clapped as a girl who looked about my age.
"This is my poem called, distant."
Natsu and I found a table in front and watched the girl.
"You are not mine,
But sometimes I pretend that you wish you were.
I create this idea that you secretly want me.
And I often forget it's just something I made up.
You do not want me,
And you are not mine."
The crowd went wild as she bowed and went off the stage.
That was beautiful! The way you can express your feelings through poetry is just so amazing!
"Hey Natsu did you-" I saw him staring out of space looking a little sad.
"Are you ok?" I asked him breaking him away from his train of thought.
"Yeah I'm fine. It's just..." he took a deep breath, "lets just say that I can relate to that poem."
"You love someone?"
"Maybe not love, but I do like someone." He sighed.
"Well she's a very lucky person to have someone like you on her life, if she can't see that then she's not worth it."
He chuckled, "I think it's me who's the lucky person. Ever since I met her, I can't keep her out of my head. She drives me crazy."
Hearing him talk about someone like that made me a little jealous. I want to able to experience that with someone. I want to have that feeling when you can't get someone out of your head or when all they have to do is come near you and you can feel your heart race and your mind go crazy.
A few other people went up, the next better than the last. I was really enjoying myself.
"Now it's time for one random audience member to go on stage and recite one of their poems."
I wonder who the lucky person is.
"How about you, the girl with the blonde hair?" A spotlight shined on me.
I saw that coming...
The crowd started chanting for me to go on.
"Blondie! Blondie! Blondie!"
What the hell is a Blondie?
"You don't have to go if you don't want to?" Natsu said giving me this worried look.
"It's fine Natsu, I got this!" I had a determined look and my face. Even though I don't think my poems are as good as everyone else's, I still would like other people to hear them.
I walked on the stage. I looked in front of me and saw that all eyes were on me. My knees instantly felt weak, like they were jelly. There had to be almost a hundred people in the crowd. I almost felt like crying.
"You can do it!" I heard someone whisper to me. I saw Natsu giving me a thumbs up.
I smiled and cleared my throat.
"I don't know how to tell you I'm broken without feeling needy.
I don't know how to open up without feeling judged.
I don't know how to cry when my tears feel like acid.
I just need you to see that I'm hurting without me telling you because my words are bleeding out of my mouth, waiting for you to stitch me up and make me fine although I know that's not your job and you're better off without me.
I just need you to see me one last time."
I slowly opened my eyes and saw the crowd staring at me motionless, even Natsu.
Did I do something wrong? Was it that bad?
Then I heard someone in the distance clapping causing everyone to clap also. Eruptions of cheers were heard from the crowd.
"Wow that was amazing!" The host said.
"Thank you," I said a little too quiet.
"Give it up for..." he put his hand over his microphone, "what's your name?"
"Lucy." I put my hands on my hips, "Lucy Heartfilia!"
He laughed, "Give it up for Lucy Heartfilia!" Another round of applauds were heard from the crowd making me smile like a big kid.
I walked back to my seat, "did you like it Natsu?"
"I loved it! When and how did you learn to write like that?!" He was still in shock.
"I've been writing since I was in fifth grade."
"And you say you're not into art."
"Art?"
"Yeah. Art isn't just paintings and drawing. Writing is a form of art too."
"We'll be taking a thirty minute break. Hang tight!" The announcer said.
"I guess we're going to have to wait," Natsu said sipping his lemonade.
"So where are we going next after this?"
"Not telling." He put his drink back on the table.
"Oh come on Natsu! Tell me!"
"Nope." He smirked.
"What? That's not fair!" I pouted.
He laughed, "you're so cute when you're mad." He pinched my cheek causing me to slap his hand away.
"I better be amused."
Can you guess who the poems about? 😊😊😊
