Chapter 6
I followed Roen all the way through the town. He continued to walk where the welcome sigh was, as he went by it. "Do you mind a little hiking?" Roen asked as I shook my head. "No, I don't, " I said, as I stopped. "This isn't anything that I should refuse, is it? Do I still have your trust?" I asked, knowing that I wasn't moving one bit. Roen turned around as he looked at me. "Yeah. You still have my trust. Ella, do you think that I would put you in danger? I always helped you, had your back when your dad didn't. Do you think I would betray you in an instant?" he asked, as he looked at me with a sad expression on his face. I sighed as I looked down. "No. You teamed up with us when everyone thought you went with my dad. I don't know why I said something so mean like that. I'm sorry, I'll follow you" I said, as I looked at him. The wind blew slightly, bringing a chill across the ground. Roen continued to look at me, then looked past me. "It's still light out and no trace of anyone. Follow me. It's just a little bit longer" he said, as he turned to walk down a trail. I huffed as I continued to follow. I stopped at the top of the cleared woods to find a trail that led down. The trail swerved down like it was climbing down a steep cliff. "Careful. It should turn to steps real soon, which makes it easier" he said, as he started to carefully walk down the pathway. I sighed as I looked at my feet, then started to follow. The leaves crunched beneath my feet, making it a little slippery to walk on. "It must've rained when we were in the house. But I don't remember it" I said, as Roen sighed. "It's very weird. I just found this trail before I came to you. It was dry when I came here last, which wasn't long ago." I looked up a moment, then looked down at my feet. "Roen, could this be work from another devil? If you did find Max, could he have changed powers?" I asked as Roen laughed. "Us devils can't change powers, Ella. Max had powers of water because it's the opposite of lightning. It's like you and your dad. He's fire and your ice" he explained. I looked up at him as I spoke. "So what about Aaron and Shiki?"
Roen looked back as he spoke. "Careful here, it's almost going to flat land. What about Aaron and Shiki?" he asked as I sighed. "It seems that devil children are opposite of their parents, but Shiki and Aaron have the same powers. They both have wings, how is that?" I asked as Roen huffed. "It's always different for different types of devils. With devils like you, your dad and Mage, their children have the opposite powers of their parents. But with fallen angels and Cerberus's, they keep their parent's power. Just that the children are a bit different." I took what Roen just told me, as I thought. I thought about Aaron and how his wings are. When he was working with the committee, his wings had blue tips and mostly black. Now it's bluer. I shook my head as I looked at Roen, seeing him looking at me with a strange look on his face. "What?" he asked as I sighed. "So what's happening with Aaron?" I asked as Roen sighed. "What about Aaron?" he asked as I sighed. "Last time the committee attacked, his wings were mostly black. Now they're mostly blue." Roen sighed as he spoke. "Every fallen angel has a different color scheme. Aaron's wings are colored that way because his dad is pure black and his moms were a pure royal blue. So he has black and blue. His wings changed because he's choosing good over evil. If Aron turned evil again, his wings will be mostly black like before" he explained.
"So was Aaron's mom good?" I asked as Roen nodded. "Aaron's mom never fell as Shiki did. His mom was just a regular angel. She had sky blue wings that looked almost transparent" he said. I thought about what we were talking about. It made me think that I never really remember my mom. "Roen? Did you know my mom?" I asked as Roen looked at me. Roen sighed as he spoke. "Your mom was just like your dad. A powerful devil with the power of water. She could destroy your dad in an instant. But your dad stopped her before she took you away from him." I looked up as we still continued down the hill. I saw where the hill turned into a flat ground and continued. "What happened to her?" I asked as Roen turned to me. Roen sighed as he spoke. "Will you be mad if I told you the truth?" he asked as I shook my head. "If your still honest, I won't," I said, as Roen sighed. "I'm sorry. I had to kill your mom. She was going to kill your dad and I just couldn't let her." I huffed in silence as I looked at the ground. I had a moment of silence, as I thought. "I'm sorry Ella. I just couldn't let her" he said. I shook my head as I looked up. "No. You work for my dad, not my mom. You had the right to protect him. I understand completely" I said, as Roen nodded. "I'm glad you still," he said, but a high pitched growl came from a little shack in the middle of the open area.
I fisted my hands as ice formed around them, ready for the attacker. Roen covered them as he spoke. "It's ok Ella, relax," he said, as he looked out towards where the growl was. He sighed as he growled back, not saying a word. I looked towards the building as I saw a shadow of an animal, a dog to be exact. It wasn't a little pomeranian like Roen was, this was a huge Doberman that stood about up to my stomach. Its fur was a mix of black and tan, the tan looking redder than anything. It had blue eye just like Roen did, shining into the light. The dog growled as it beamed its eyes at me, ready for the kill. Roen looked at me, then back to the dog. "It's ok Tim. She's just a friend of mine. She's a devil too" he explained as the dog came into the moonlight more. The dog's tan markings looked like a deep shade of blood red in the light. He had a fluffy tail that was long and curled around his back. He stood about the same height of Roen's chest, his legs bringing out the height of him. I sighed as I looked at Roen. "He's not as small and adorable as you are," I said, as Roen shook his head. "No. Tim's mother was a Doberman, he takes the fluffiness and the curled tail from me. The rest is from his mom" he explained as the dog made a shrieking howl. The dog shaped to a boy, just about the height of my dad. He had blue hair that was cut short like Roen's, with long bangs that hung over his eye. He had long, black nails on his fingers, looking more like claws. The boy was dressed in dark clothing, with what looked like blood all over him. "Don't ever talk about my mom. You know what she did to us" the boy growled at Roen.
Roen nodded. "I'm sorry Tim. I needed to explain to Ella about your appearance" he said to the boy. The boy shot a deadly glare at me, as he crossed his arms. "Ella, huh," the boy said as he stepped off the porch and into the moonlight. My eyes widened as he walked up to me, hovering over me. He felt like a giant, tall and tough. The boy looked at me dead in the eye while he turned silent. I gulped in fear of him, as I tried to relax. The boy bent towards my neck as he sniffed it. I stayed still, as the fear took over in me, making me glare at Roen. The boy nudged my chin as I tiled my head to the left, letting him continue. I looked at Roen again, seeing that he stood in silence, letting his son continue. The boy walked behind me, as he grasped my arms with his long fingertipped nails, leaning more into me as he continued. I closed my eyes as I started to feel my arms becoming cold. I was fighting to freeze him still. He inhaled as another voice spoke. "Found a new girlfriend, Tim?" I focused on the voice. It wasn't Max, but the voice sounded a mixture of tough and a jokester. Tim stopped to look up at the building, still holding me in his grasp. Roen turned to the building as he sighed. "Do you have to pick on your brother like that, Colt?" Roen asked as another boy stepped into the moonlight.
This boy looked similar to the first. He had the same haircut as Tim, but with shorter bangs and it was a purplish black and not blue. He had the same eyes as Tim and Roen, only they were darker. He leaned up against the doorway of the shack, his legs crossed to hold his stance. He studied me with a creepy look as he cracked a smile. I studied him as I fisted my hands more. Hands were wrapped around mine as Tim sniffed me again. "Your trembling and your hands are cold. You going to be alright sweetie?" he asked as I looked back in shock. I heard a huff from Colt as he walked off the porch of the shack. "She human?" he asked as he walked up to us. Tim put me into a kneeling position as he kept me still. I glared at Roen with a 'help me' look. He sighed as he spoke. "Just relax. They're like this" he said, as I felt scared more. Why wasn't he telling his son's to stop? Was he afraid of his own kids? Colt huffed as he went on one knee, put a claw-like nail under my chin and made me look into his eyes. I started to shake but I couldn't pull away. "She's just like Rem. You sure we can trust this girl?" he asked as he stood up and turned to Roen. Roen sighed as he spoke. "I trust Ella. She's been fighting her dad for as long as I know" he said.
I heard a third huff as a girl's voice spoke again. "Boys, stop tormenting this poor girl. If dad brought her here to us, he must trust her" it said, as a girl walked off the porch. She had long blue hair that hung just a bit under her shoulders. She had light blue eyes, that was almost a greyish white. She had long nails like Colt, only they were painted a royal blue. Colt stood up as he turned from us. "This girl is the Arlond air. Do you think we can trust her?" Colt asked the girl. She walked up to us as she crossed her arms. "Arlond air or not, you boys can't just torture anyone without knowing them," she said, as I looked at Roen. He put his arm out as he mouthed sorry. Colt sighed as he took a step towards the girl. "Do you remember what dad told us about Rem? What if this girl does the same thing? She could probably freeze us, then we'll be dead" he yelled at the girl. The girl huffed as she spoke. "Come on Colt. Do you even think dad would bring a girl that he knew was going to kill us in any way? And isn't that what you said about the boy we found?" she asked, as I looked at Roen. Was she talking about Max? Colt huffed as he looked at the ground in anger. I shifted a little as Tim wrapped his hands tighter around me, digging his nails right into me. He bent down towards me as he placed his face in the crook of my neck. "Please don't move too much. My claws will just dig right into your skin" he said, as I looked back in shock. I was starting to get scared of these kids and started to wonder how Roen raise them.
The girl sighed as she looked behind Colt. "Tim. Let her go" she demanded as Tim huffed. I looked at Roen as he sighed. "Please, let her go. I invited her as a friend, not a prisoner" Roen said, as Tim huffed. Colt looked at me as he sighed. "Fine, let her go," he said, as Tim got up off me. I sighed as I held where his claws were and stood up. Colt walked up to me as he placed his nail under my chin, making me look him in his eye. "But, the minute you try and hurt my family, or join your dad. I'll be after you and trust me, I'm an excellent tracker" he said, as Roen sighed. "Ok guys. Let Ella rest. You scared her and now let her go" Roen said as Colt looked at him then walked away. The boys turned around as they went back into the shack. The girl sighed as she walked up to me. "They've been through a lot," she said, as she held out her hand. "My name's Eden. Sorry about my brother's, their jerks" she said, as I grabbed it. "Ella Kaginuki," I said, as a huff came in the back of Eden. "Eden, dad. Come on before anyone finds us, and bring the air along" Tim said, as the boys entered the hut. Eden sighed as I looked at Roen. "Sorry, Ella. Let me bring you to Max" he said, as he started to walk towards the shack. I looked at Eden as she cracked a smile and walked with me into the shack.
