Chapter 23
I took a deep breath as I sat on the couch with my feet curled up next to me. I picked at a hangnail in boredom, trying to entertain myself. Dad was working on a computer at his desk, completely into what he was doing. He didn't stop working, except for looking back at Cameron and I for a brief minute. Mage was sitting on the right of the room, just enjoying the silence of the room. Urie and Lillian were sitting to the left on a small little sofa. Urie was fixing a petal on the rose he carried and Lillian was studying him in embarrassment. Roen ended up walking to a chair next to dad's desk. He ended up sitting in silence, enjoying the moment. Cameron huffed as he looked at me. I turned to him, seeing the annoyance on his face. "What?" he asked, frustrated. I shrugged. "Nothing. You're just staring at me," I pointed out. Cameron huffed. "I'm not staring at you," he snapped. I huffed. "Alright, whatever you say," I said, as Cameron huffed again. "Your trying to get us in trouble?" he asked, as I looked at him. "What? I can't ask why you're just staring at me?" I asked as he turned to me. "I'm not staring at you. I'm just looking around the room to entertain myself," he said, as I huffed. "Well, it kinda looked like," I started but dad slammed a hand on the desk. "Cameron, Ella, that's enough," he snapped. Cameron turned to him. "Don't yell at me. She's the one being a brat," he said, as I rolled my eyes. "I looked at you once," I said, as he turned to me. "You were staring," he said, as I huffed. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" dad yelled as the room started to heat up. Cameron huffed as he crossed his arms. "Only if I could put you asleep right now," he said, as Dad studied him in anger. "Cameron, do I have to roast your vocal cords?" he threatened. Cameron stayed silent.
Dad huffed. "Hopefully, Shiki can hurry up," he said, as the door opened and the mentioned council member entered the room. "Sorry we're late. I had to punish my son," he said, as him and Aaron walked into the room. I perked up a little when I saw him. He didn't look any different than he normally did. He did have a red mark on the side of his chin. I studied him for a moment as I started to stand. "Ella, sit down," dad commanded. I did what I was told. I sat up straight as Shiki and Aaron walked to the other side of the room. Dad took a deep breath as he turned to Shiki. "That's alright. We weren't going to start without you," he said, as he stood and walked in front of the desk.
"I called you all here for a very important meeting," he started to say as he stood in front of the desk. "We have a little vampire issue. The current Vampire king is trying to take over," he started to say as I looked at him confused. "Karlheinz is trying to take over the humans. We need all of you to help take him down," he said, as Aaron and I exchanged a confused look. Aaron shifted in his seat. "So, let me get this straight. You kidnapped us and now you think we're going to help you?" he asked, as dad huffed. "We need all that we can get, and you didn't want to come on your own," he explained. Aaron studied him angrily this time. "You used Cameron and Lillian to kidnap us. Why on earth do you think," he said, as dad shot a fireball his way. Aaron dodged it. "As I was saying," dad continued, as I watched Aaron. He turned to me as he eyed dad. I turned back to dad. "We have no clue what he is planning, but I feel like it's not going to be good," he said, as he took a deep breath. "I have a feeling that Karlheiz will take control like Nesta did. I feel like he's going to control the human kind," he finished. Dad took a pause as he scanned the room. I studied dad in silence as I thought.
"So, you kidnapped us, to help you clean up a vampire problem?" Aaron asked, trying to take in the information. I studied dad with curiosity, seeing that I had the same question. Dad turned to Aaron as he nodded. "Exactly. Like I said when you and Ella arrived, you were only going to be here for a night. Then you'll be able to go back home," he explained. I sat in silence and kept to my thoughts. Dad cleared his throat again. "As I was saying, I feel like Karlheinz is going to go after human blood. We need to figure out how to stop him," he finished. I studied dad as the room fell silent. It stayed that way for a few moments until Lillian cleared her throat. "So, why do we need to help?" she asked. Dad cracked a smile. "There seemed to be a grandson amongst the school. We think he's a spy, but there's a problem. We don't know who he is, or what he looks like," he explained. I looked at Aaron as I cocked my head. "Is he talking about Noah?" I asked him. My voice was loud for others to hear, but silent so I didn't get yelled at. Aaron just shrugged. Mage was the one that spoke first. "Ella, Aaron, do you know this vampire kid?" he asked, as I turned to him. "Kinda. Ritsuka hangs with him at school. I think they might be dating," I explained.
"Ritska's dating a vampire?" The question pulled my attention back to dad. "Is Lindo ok with it?" he asked as I shrugged. "I guess. He hasn't said much about it. He's just been going with it," I explained. Aaron cleared his voice. "He seems to be a little creepy." Dad cleared his throat. "Have you had much interaction with him? Did you meet his family?" he asked, as I shook my head. "He's been over the house once. That was about it," I explained. Dad just nodded in thought. Cameron sighed. "You'll just tell dad anything, won't you?" he asked, sarcastically. I turned to him. "I'm answering his questions. Isn't that how a conversation goes?" I asked my brother. Cameron turned to me. "Yeah, but you're starting to turn into a teachers pet," he said, as dad shot a fireball between us. "ELLA! CAMERON! ENOUGH!" he yelled. I turned to face dad. "Sorry," I said, quietly. Cameron coughed. "Teachers pet," he tried to muffle. Dad studied him in anger.
"Ella. You said that he's been to the house. Have you talked with him much?" he asked, as I shook my head. "No, he was leaving when I arrived," I explained. Dad nodded. "Do you know more about this kid?" he asked. I shook my head. "No. I don't." Dad took a breath again. "Thank you for that current information," he said, as the room died down. Aaron and I shared a glance again, until he pulled everyone's attention to him. "I would like to add something to Ella's fact's, if I'm aloud," he asked. Dad turned to him. "If you have something different," dad said, allowing him time to speak. Aaron took a deep breath. "Noah knew we were devils. He asked when Ritska left the table," he added in. Dad's eyes grew wide and the room fell silent. Mage laughed from his spot. "What did you do to help him figure that one out?" he asked, as I shrugged. "We didn't do anything. He just knew," I explained. When I spoke the information, Mage's face went from his laughter to shocked very quickly. "Oh," was the only thing he said.
"How much have you both interacted with this Noah kid?" dad asked, pulling our attention back to him. "Not much. Just for a few minutes that day on lunch," Aaron said. Dad studied us both in thought. He turned to me again. "Ella, are you lying?" he asked. The question didn't shock me, seeing how I was probably considered the enemy. I looked at him in confusion. "You took my ability to form ice. Why would I lie to you now?" I asked, which made his stern look even more dramatic. Over a few moments he settled back down. "You have a point. Thank you both for sharing," he said, looking from me to Aaron.
Dad turned to look at Roen. "What about your kids? We haven't seen them in years," he said, as Roen shrugged. "I still don't know where they are. Last time I knew, Eden was in college and Tim was going up north. Colt's probably in jail, but he don't contact me," he lied. Dad sighed. "That's a disappointment. We could've used their help," he explained. Roen shook his head. "I'm sorry. My kids have their own life," he replied. I studied Roen with a slight curiosity. Why did he just lie? Roen caught me starting and eyed dad, like he was telling me to play along. I looked back to dad as he sighed.
"Apparently, we can't do anything as of right now. Any thoughts about what we should do?" he asked, as the room stayed silent. Urie spoke up. "We could always do what we did when we needed answers. Call this Noah kid to the office during school," he said, breaking his silence. Dad turned to look at him. "We could do that. Would you be up for putting Lillian through the school system?" he asked. Urie smiled. "I can make sure she started when Ella goes back," he said. I studied Lillian as fear crept on her face. My eyes widened as I figured it out. Urie is using his own daughter. Dad nodded at that. "That could work. We can have her shadow Ella for a few days," he said, as he turned to me. "Would you be up for showing Lillian around?" I took a deep breath as I studied the fear of Lillian's face. I looked back to dad. "Yeah. I could if she would want me to. I can see if she could stay with us, but I would need to talk to Lindo first," I said, as Urie turned to me. "Lillian needs to come home strait after," he cut me off with. I took a deep breath as I studied the sad expression on Lilian's face. I looked back up to Urie. "Alright, I'm sorry," I said, quietly.
"Alright, that will be the plan. We'll stay low and keep an eye out around town for any vampire interaction. If anyone see anything suspicious, report back as soon as possible," dad said as he took a pause. "Is there anything that anyone would like to discuss?" dad asked as he looked around the room. "Did you give it to them yet?" Mage asked dad. Dad turned to him. "I haven't as of yet," he said, as he turned to us kids. "The three of you will each be given a necklace before you go to school tomorrow. These necklaces have tracking devices that hooks up to my computer. It is important that you wear them at all costs, especially when you're out and about," he explained. Cameron chuckled. "You're gonna get tracked," he said, I eyed him with hatred. Dad turned to him "I wouldn't laugh at her, Cameron. You're gonna get one as well, but a little different," he said, as Cameron looked at him. "Why do I have to have one?" he asked, getting grumpy. "We're going to be dealing with vampires and I'm not losing one of my kids," he said, as Cameron narrowed his eyes at him.
Cameron took a deep breath. "Fine. You call the shots," he said, as he slouched in his seat. Dad nodded. "Thank you. I guess it's time to call it a night. Everyone must be tired from everything," he said, as he looked around the room. Aaron huffed. "Well, when you get forced to sleep it messed with you," he said, as he eyed Cameron. Cameron huffed as he turned to Aaron. "I'll gladly do it again if you got a problem with it," he said, as he eyed Aaron again. Lillian huffed. "Oh my gosh. Don't start," she said under her breath. Dad huffed himself. "Since we're going to have Aaron and Ella tonight, I had Roen prepare the guest bedrooms," he said, as he turned to Aaron and I. "I still want the two of you to spend the night. You'll be able to go home after school tomorrow," he explained. I huffed, as well as Cameron. "I'm not sharing a room with Ella again," he said, as dad looked at him. "Ella and Aaron will have their own rooms. I had Roen prepare them earlier," he explained. Cameron cracked a little smile at that.
Dad turned to me. "I'll call Lindo and let him know about tonight. In the meantime, you're free to roam the house. Please don't leave tonight," he said, as I looked at him. "I will call Lindo, seeing how he's my guardian. If you don't mind me asking for my phone back," I said, as dad huffed. "Very well," he said, as he handed me my cell. "I think that calls it for tonight. Does anyone have any more questions?" he asked, which led to a silent room for a moment. Dad nodded at this. "Good. That ends our meeting for tonight. You kids are free to roam the house," he said, as he started back for the door.
Aaron and I got up as we headed for the door. "Aaron. Let's go for a little walk, shall we?" Shiki pulled our attention to him. "Well, I should make this call with Ella," he said, as I turned to him. "You go. I've got it," I said, as Aaron nodded his thanks and headed off with Shiki. I returned a gaze to my brother as I turned and headed out of the room.
