Chapter 22
Cameron and I walked through the many hallways of the building. We peered around the corner to see if the council was around before we headed around the hallway. I looked at the ceiling a few times, for both security camera's and Shiki's wings. I looked forward again as I continued to walk down the hallway. We started to walk a little slower as to concentrate on the sound of our footsteps. The walls were dead silent, which I found very creepy. I took a glance back at my brother, making sure that he was still following me, which he was. He looked at me with an annoyed expression on his face. "What? We gotta keep moving," he said, as I huffed and looked ahead. "Just making sure you're still with me," I said, as I walked down the hallway again. Cameron huffed. "Reminder, if I was going to hurt you, I would've already done it," he said, as I rolled my eyes at the comment. I walked around the corner and down the hallway, as I tried to figure the building out. "Dad picked a big building to keep us in," I said, as I straitened to walk normally. I looked up at the ceiling, trying to spot security cameras, which I didn't notice any. "Yeah. I'm surprised it's not rigged with camera's," he said, as I nodded. At that point, we were sharing the same thought.
We continued to walk down the hallway as I looked around. I looked behind us while kept moving forward. "What are you doing?" he asked, as I looked at him. "Making sure we don't get caught. Plus, I'm looking for Roen," I explained. Cameron looked at me, confused. "Roen's with us?" he asked, as I looked back up ahead. "Yeah, how do you think I got out the first time?" I replied, getting sarcastic again. Cameron rolled his eyes at the comment. "This isn't the time for fights," he said, as I huffed. "Says the guy trying to pick at them," I shot back at. Cameron sighed. "Ok, look," he said, as I huffed. I stood up as I looked back at him. "What now? We're kinda in a "be caught could kill you" situation," I said, as Cameron huffed. "Ok. I'm sorry about helping dad and getting you here. I'm also sorry for being angry with you. But, we need to put our little fight aside and figure this thing out," he said, as I stood to face him. "You're right. I'm sorry for not making you lead. Now get up here and let's find Aaron," I said, as I turned to continue. Cameron huffed. "How do you think I know where Shiki's keeping," he said, as he stopped in mid-sentence. I looked at him in confusion. "What are you?" I said, but he placed a finger to his mouth, as if telling me to stop talking.
We both stood in silence as Cameron looked around. "Do you hear that Ella?" he asked, as I looked at him as if he had five heads. "Hear what?" I asked as I heard the paddling of footsteps approaching. Cameron's hands started to form purple as he turned around to where the footsteps approached. "Someone's coming," he said, as he peered back. "Are you cold enough to fight?" he asked, as I fisted my hands, but nothing happened. "No. The heat is up too high," I said, as Cameron huffed. "We gotta cool you down somehow," he said, as the footsteps approached even more. Cameron got in front of me as if he was going to be the protective big brother he always was, even though we just met. He narrowed his eyes as a figure walked forward. Cameron lunged forward as the figure pressed up against the wall. "Woah, woah. There you both are," Roen's voice said, as he let Cameron fly past him and crashed on the ground.
Roen looked at him and sighed. "You're going to be a handful Cameron," he said, with a slight chuckle. Cameron rolled over onto his stomach as he stared to get up off the ground. I looked at Roen. "We got to find Aaron and get out of here," I said, as Roen turned to me. He sighed. "I can't find Aaron. A part of me thinks that Shiki isn't even here," he said, as I looked at him. "But we gotta get him out of here," I said, as Roen shook his head. "I don't know where he is at the moment. All I know is that I gotta get you both out of here. Rem's planning something, and it's not good," he said, as he looked over at Cameron. I looked at my brother, seeing him stretch from his fall. "Sorry Roen. I thought you were dad," Cameron said, as he walked up to us. Roen huffed. "You're just like Colt," he said, as he rubbed Cameron's head. Cameron huffed. "I'm twenty. Stop treating me like a child," he yelled at Roen. Roen shushed him. "Do you want the committee to hear," he said, as he studied Cameron, who just huffed. Roen stood up. "Alright, follow me," he said, as he started to turn, but stopped when a laugh was heard from behind us.
"Are you taking them to Rem?" Shiki's voice came from behind. The three of us turned around to look at him as he stood against the hallway. I narrowed my eyes at him. "Where's Aaron?" I asked, in an angry tone. Shiki studied me curiously. "Your boyfriend's safe, don't worry," he said, as I fisted my hands, but still no ice formed. "Where is he?" I asked again, getting more into a yell. "Ella, don't," Roen said, as I turned to him. Roen looked at me with a concerned expression. "Like I said, he's safe," Shiki said, as I turned back to him. He studied me with a creepy expression. I kept my hands fisted as Shiki smiled. "Like I said before. Are you talking them to Rem?" Shiki asked Roen again. Roen nodded. "Yes. I'm going to take them to their dad," he replied as I turned to look at him. Shiki chuckled as he stood. "Great, I should follow from behind," he said, happily. I looked from him to Roen as his eyes grew. Then I knew, we got caught. Roen sighed as he turned around. "Cameron, Ella, please follow me," he said, as he started to walk down the hallway again.
Shiki, Cameron and I followed Roen down a couple of hallways as we got to a set of double doors. Roen turned around as he sighed. "The rest of the committee will be in there with us. Please behave, and no attacking your father," he said, as if he was our nanny. Cameron sighed but I stayed silent. Roen nodded as he turned around and knocked on the door. "Come in," dad's voice echoed from inside the door. Roen opened the door as I followed him in silently, but Cameron refused. I looked back as Cameron fell on the floor and Shiki walked in behind him. Roen huffed at the sight. "Alright, come in," he said, as I turned and walked more into the room.
He led us to a couch that was in front of a desk, similar to the desk dad had at school. Dad was standing behind the desk going through some files, while Urie and a girl sat in front of a window together. I studied the girl curiously as I stopped in my tracks. She looked similar to Urie. She had long brown hair that was pinned in a ponytail behind her. She had golden eyes like Urie, but they glowed a little more than his. A rose tattoo sat on the left side of her neck, which was visible from a distance. The girl looked sad, like she didn't want to be there. I studied the girl, as Cameron bumped me, pulling my attention to him. "That's Lillian," he said, as I looked at the girl again.
I studied the girl some more as dad's voice snapped me out of it. "Thank you for bringing them," he said, as I looked back at him. I fisted my hands, but nothing happened. I was still too warm. "Have a seat. We're still waiting on one more," dad said, as he went to look at the desk again. I huffed as I walked to the couch in front of his desk and sat down. Cameron stayed where he was. I watched as dad turned to him. "You should have a seat. You're going to be here for a while," dad told him. Cameron studied him again. "Why should I? I thought we were partners," he said, as dad turned to him. "We are. But, I'm still your dad and your boss. So have a seat," he said, as he pointed to the couch again. Cameron huffed. "You locked me in there," he said, as dad looked at him. "I gave you an order," he said, sternly. I looked at my dad as I felt the room heat up. I pulled my legs on the couch as I turned to my brother, seeing a purple fume from his fist. "You told me you weren't going to lock me in with her," he shot back at him.
I noticed Lilian as she held her head. "Oh my gosh," she said, frustrated. I looked at my brother then dad as the room started to heat up more. I felt my body get colder. Dad fisted his hands. "I gave you an order. Sit down, Cameron," he shot once more. I looked back at my brother as a purple fume went up his arm like a sleeve. "No," he said, again.
I looked at him, then at dad as I cleared my throat. "Dad, may I talk to my brother for a minute?" I asked, as dad took a deep breath. "Go ahead," he said as I nodded my thanks. I got up and walked over to my brother as I grabbed him by the sleeve. "What now, brat?" he shot out. I looked at him as I pulled him to the corner of the room. "ELLA, WHAT IN THE WORLD?!" he started to yell as I shushed him. "Cameron, don't fight. I've been against him before and it's a lot easier if you just do what he says," I started to explain as Cameron looked at me. "Well, he didn't have to," he said, as I took a deep breath. "Cam, just do what they tell you to. You're on their side, and that's where you want to be right now. Trust me, I pretty much ruined my relationship with dad. I'm considered the enemy and I'll tell you, it's not fun," I continued as Cameron cut me off again. "Well, he didn't raise you. So that's why he hates you," he said, raising his voice to a shout.
I looked at my brother angrily as I heard Lillian gasp. "Ok, if you wanna be that way. I'll just keep out of your relationship with dad. If you end up burning to a crisp, don't come crying to me," I said, as I walked back over to the couch. I sat on the couch as I looked at dad. He studied me angrily. "Ella, don't raise your voice," he commanded. I took a deep breath, feeling my hands grow cold. Dad noticed this. "I'm sorry," I found myself saying as he walked up to me. He rubbed his hands together and reached one to my forehead as Cameron yelled. "Don't burn my sister," he said, as dad looked up at him. "Silence," he said, as he pressed a hand to my forehead. I felt my head get warmer, followed by the rest of my body. A little steam rose from my hands, but no pain followed.
Lillian's eyes grew wide. "What? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HER?!" she yelled, as she freaked out. Urie walked up to Lilly, trying to calm his daughter. Dad huffed. "I'm warming Ella up. She won't be able to freeze anything for the next twenty-four hours," he explained, as he studied me. "I'll be keeping an eye on you for the next day," he said, as I nodded. "I'll try to be on my best behavior," I said, as he cracked a smile. "Please do," he said, as Cameron gasped. "NOW YOU BEHAVE?!" he asked, as dad looked at him. He shot a fireball at him, making him scream. Lilly dropped her head as she sighed. She looked at me. "Your brother," she said, disappointedly. Dad scanned the room. "Just relax everyone. Shiki should be here shortly," he said, as he walked to the desk. I got comfortable, knowing we were gonna be there a while.
