Chapter 18
I followed Tim back into the living room, his hand still wrapped around mine. His claw-like nails dug deeply into my wrist, but not enough to draw blood. I tugged against his grip, but he wouldn't let go. He pulled me into the living room then stopped and took a deep breath. I looked up at him as I started to pull my wrist free, but he wouldn't let go. "Thank you for protecting me, but I think I'll be ok now," I said, as I pulled again. I ended up getting the same results. Tim pulled me to the couch as he turned my way and sat me down. I looked up at him as I narrowed my eyes. "I think I'm fine now. It's ok to let go," I said, as I pulled one last time. Still no result. Tim grabbed my other hand as it started to turn cold. I narrowed my eyes a little bit. "I think you'd better let go," I warned, getting defensive. Tim cracked a little smile then pulled my arm to examine the burn better. "He got you good," he said, as I fisted my hands. My hands got colder than normal, to the point where I couldn't even feel them myself. "Let go of me now," I warned, as my hands became so cold that a thin layer of ice started to form. Tim's eyes widened as I pushed him off me. He tripped over his feet as he fell to the ground. Instantly I created ice around his hands and feet, trapping him to the floor. I looked at the burn on my arm as I put an iced hand over it.
"You're just as powerful as Cameron," he said as I looked at him, a stern expression on my face. "Now is not the time to mention my brother," I said as if I got chills. Tim pulled at his limbs. "Wow, I can't even move them. But it's weird, it looks thinner than it actually is," he said, as I chuckled. "You can probably break out of it," I said, as I studied the burn, seeing it disappearing slowly. Tim took the advantage to try but he couldn't. "Yep, you're stronger than you look," he said, as I studied the floor, remembering the vampire that I saw before the committee came back. Then I went back to my burn. Tim pulled at his hands again. "Ok, can you please let me go? You proved your point," he said, as I sat on the couch. I took my hand, pointed the palm at him, and slid it down. The ice around his limbs melted into the carpet around him, releasing him from the hold. He shook at his arms as he stood. "I'm still cold," he said, as he turned to his Doberman form and shook the water off of himself. Some sprayed on me but it just seeped back into my skin. Eden huffed as she jumped on the couch next to me. "Can you not get me wet? I just had to re brush my fur," she complained as she got comfortable. Tim looked at her. "Blame Ella, she got me wet," he said, as I chuckled. "Said the one who attacked me," I said, as he narrowed his eyes at me, and walked down the hallway again.
Eden looked at me. "Sorry about Tim. How's your burn," she said, as I showed her. "As long as I'm cold, I heal rather quickly," I explained. Eden smiled. "Well, that's good. Wouldn't want to keep you wounded," she said, as the door opened and Roen walked into the room. He shut the door and huffed. "Everything ok?" I asked as Roen turned around towards us. "I can't find Aaron. I have no clue where Shiki is hiding him," he said, as he came into the living room. "How's everyone here?" he asked as Eden turned to me. "Max is out of control and Ella got burned, but she seems fine now," she explained. Roen nodded. "Ok. And your brothers?" he asked Eden. She nodded towards the hallway. "With Max last time we checked," she said. Roen sighed. "That's good," he said, as he turned to me. "I ran into Lindo, he wants you home tonight," he said, as I looked at him. "Do you think it'll be safe for me to go home?" I asked as he nodded. "I think it's alright. I'll have you walk one of the boys. They're a lot more useful than Eden," he said, as he started to walk down the hallway. My eyes widened, as Eden sighed. "I'm sorry that I'm small," she said, embarrassed. I instantly shook my head. "No, it's not your fault. Plus, if it wasn't for Cameron or the committee, I'd be alright," I said, as Eden sighed. "I hate your dad, and your brother," she said, as I chuckled. "At least your not related to them," I said, while Eden sighed.
"Yeah, and I feel bad for you, seeing how you grew up with that jerk," she said, as I turned to her. "I grew up here in the human world. I never knew my family," I explained. Eden looked up at me from her burn. "What?" she asked quietly but shocked. I took a deep breath. "I never grew up with my family. I grew up with humans," I said, but stopped to chuckle. "I didn't know I was a devil until a few years ago," I explained. Eden studied me in shock. "Oh, sorry I didn't," she said, as she winced. I took a deep breath as I waved a hand towards me. "Let me see the burn," I said, as she brought her arm closer to me. I sat up. "It hurts majorly," she explained. I took a deep breath as I studied it. It looked a little bit better, but not much. I picked up my hand as I layered it in ice, then pressed it on the burn. Eden bit her lip and squinted her eyes to try not to scream. She opened them again as she took a deep breath. "Ella, that hurts," she said as I looked up at her. "I know. Just bite your lip, it's going down now," I said, as I made my hand a lot colder. She winced as she bent her head down.
Footsteps came down the hallway as Colt studied me angrily. "What are you doing, Kaginuki?" he asked angrily. I glanced up at him as I lifted up my hand, seeing the burn grow a layer of ice over it. I took a deep breath. "Keep that cold. It should be starting to heal some more," I said, as I pulled away from her completely. I looked up at Colt as he studied me shocked. "She should be fine now," I said, as he studied me some more, but in shock. "You still want to kill me?" I asked as he sighed. "No, I don't. But it's getting late and my dad said to walk you home," he said, as he started for the door. Eden sighed. "Colt, can you not?" she asked, as he darted a look at her. "Ella, come on. Eden, I'll be home in a bit. Get some rest," he said, as he started at the door again. I sighed as I looked at Eden. "I guess, I'll see you around," I said, as she smiled. "Yes, and thank you very much," she said, as I waved and started to follow Colt down the dark hallway, shutting the door behind me.
I followed Colt down the hallway in silence as we walked out of the tunnel and back towards town. The night air brushed against me with an icy wind, which was refreshing. Colt's nose flicked and he turned around to study me. "Something wrong?" I asked as he shook his head. "No. Your not cold?" he asked back. I studied him in confusion. "I can't feel anything cold. You can lock me in a refrigerator and I'll not be affected by it. Now if you hugged me, you'd probably get hyperthermia," I said, as we started to walk again. Colt sighed. "I forgot for a moment that you can control ice. It'll be dangerous if you teamed up with Cameron," he said, as I sighed. "Let's not talk about him right now," I said, with a huff. Colt put his hands in his pocket. "Sorry. I forgot you hate your family," he said, as we continued to walk. I chuckled as I walked next to him. "And your the type of guy who looks tough, but really cares for his family," I said, as he turned to me. I looked at him confused. "What?" I asked as he studied me. "Your really sweet. You know that?" he said, as I sighed. "Reminder, I got a boyfriend," I said, as he grew shocked. "Oh, yeah sorry," he said, as he turned into his German Sheppard form and shook. I chuckled a little bit at his reaction, then kept walking.
Colt patted up away then stopped, his right paw up and his ears in an alert. I stopped behind him as I tilted my head in confusion. "Something wrong?" I asked as he turned back into his human form. "Yeah. I should be following you. I don't know where you live," he said, as I chuckled. "Alright. I'll lead the way if you need to follow me. But you don't need to walk me home. I'll be fine," I said, as Colt studied me with concern. "My dad told me to keep you safe. So, I'm going to change into my dog form again and you lead the way," he said, as I took a deep breath. "You really don't have to. I will be fine by myself," I said, as he sighed. "So what if Cameron finds you? Would you be able to freeze him before he puts you asleep? Do I also need to remind you that he's very quick with his actions, not to mention that he's silent," he asked, as I huffed. "You proved your point. I do need a puppy to guard me," I said, as he studied me in shock. "You didn't go there," he said, going back to his tough personality. I chuckled. "I did. Sorry, was it too much?" I asked as he shook his head. "No, it was fine. Let's go before the committee finds us," he said as he followed me away from the tunnel.
I turned to Colt as I took a deep breath. "Why do you hate my family so much?" I asked as he chuckled. "What's to like about them? Your family is so controlling, that they're basically going to use the discipline committee to take over this human world. It's sad that they even pulled Cameron and Lillian into this," he stated. I cocked my head in confusion. "Lillian?" I asked as Colt stopped in his tracks. He turned to me. "You never met Lillian?" he asked as I still studied him confused. "No one mentioned anyone named Lillian before," I said, trying to think of the name. Colt took a deep breath. "Lillian Sogami?" he asked. I squinted. "Sogami? Are you saying that Urie Sogami has a daughter?" I asked, picking up my voice. Colt put a hand over my mouth as he shushed me. "Do not yell out loud. Both Lillian and Cameron have good hearing. Plus, we don't want to draw any attention to the committee," he said, as he backed away and looked around. I looked at him as he sniffed the air. "What are you picking up?" I asked as he stopped to look at me. "Do you smell that?" he asked, as I cocked my head, confused. I looked in the direction that he was sniffing, seeing something flashy in the distance.
"What's going on over there?" I asked as Colt sniffed in the direction. "A carnival?" he asked, as he started to walk towards it. I grabbed his wrist. "Don't go in there," I said, as he turned to me. "Why? Maybe a break would be nice," he said, as I looked at him. "It could be Urie or this daughter of his," I said, as Colt turned to the lights again. "If the committee is around, I would be able to smell them a mile away. I think it'll be fine," he said, as I looked back at the carnival. I let go of him as I felt my hands getting cold. I pocketed them. "Alright. Let's walk through it," I said, as Colt nodded. "Ok, let's go," he said as I followed him into the carnival.
...
Sitting hidden in the trees, the dim yellow eyes of a man watched the two devils in the darkness. A red rose pressed to the lips of the being in curiosity, as he watched the two enter the illusion. He hid a smile under his flower as the tree limb next to him rustled. "Do you really want to hurt them, daddy?" a female's voice spoke. The pair of eyes met a devil with bright, brown hair and golden eyes. The girl looked sad, seeing how she was forced into evil. The man cracked a smile as he looked at the girl. "We will only have to fight if they promote one. Just keep the illusion up until Cameron finds them. You can do that for me, right Lillian?" he asked her. The girl sighed as she watched her dad leave to help with the show. "But, this isn't right," she said, as she did as she was told.
