Chapter 3

She stares at the group, two of them look completely shocked, while the one in the middle gives her a giant smile. The one on her left has black hair and freckles. He's wearing black pants and an open button-up shirt, it's like he doesn't know how they're supposed to be worn or something. He has an orange cowboy hat, and that's all she can see because it's hanging on his neck. And he has a tattoo, something she can't really see, but she does know there's ink on his left bicep.

The one in the middle has his hands on his hips, giving her a closed eye smile as she looks at him. He also has black hair, and notably the youngest. He has a curved scar under his left eye, which only leads her to wonder how he got it. He's wearing blue shorts, with an red button-up shirt. It's also unbuttoned though, do none of these people know how it's supposed to be worn? But maybe he doesn't button his shirt because he wants to show off his scar, which is in the shape of an x across his chest. He also has a hat, but it's a straw one, reminding her of the ones that framers used to wear out in the fields.

The last one, the one on her right is the only one who does not have black hair, he's a blond and his hair is slightly wavy. He also has a scar near and over his left eye, but it's from being burnt; she shudders at the thought of having to go through that. He's wearing a blue button-up shirt, and once again is the only one different because he actually has it buttoned. She stands corrected, someone does know how to wear those shirts how they're intended. He's also wearing a frilled cravat, which is something so not from this century.

"Hi, I'm Luffy!" the one in the middle gives her another smile, she gets the impression that he's the kind of guy that wants to be friends with mostly everyone. "Welcome to the neighborhood! I know it's not much, and by that I mean... it's not really anything... until you make it something."

"My name's Ace," the one with freckles puts his hand on Luffy's head and ruffles his hair. "And my brother here is right. This place can be worse than the other side, but it can also be better if you try."

The blond doesn't say anything until she looks at him, because she was expecting him to speak, "Sabo. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry that my brothers don't know their manners. Showing up here without so much as letting you settle in for at least an hour."

"You came with us!" Luffy turns his head so fast to look at Sabo that she's sure he got whiplash. "Don't make it seem like you have no part in this!"

"I only came to make sure that you didn't make her feel uncomfortable," the blond shakes his head from side to side with his hands up and palms out. "But I digress."

"What's that mean?" Luffy tilts his head to the side, placing his hand under his chin. "Quit using big words on me."

"This isn't the time for this, Luffy," Sabo rubs his temples with his thumb and index finger. "I'll give you a vocabulary lesson later."

"I'm nineteen, I graduated school! I'm done with vocabulary!" Luffy pouts, folding his arms over his chest. "Don't treat me like a child!"

"Then stop acting like one, Luffy," Ace puts his hand on Luffy's head and ruffles his hair again. "We're here to get to know our neighbor, let's stop causing a scene."

"Oh! That's right!" the youngest turns back to look at the (h/c)-haired girl. "I live in the next apartment over. What's your name?"

"(Y/n)," she speaks, her voice cracking slightly due to her crying earlier. "Thanks for coming to visit... I'd invite you in, but there really isn't anything here. And I can't offer you anything, because I don't really have anything either."

"That's alright," Sabo gives her a warm smile. "We were supposed to have gift baskets for people who move in here, but since someone thought it was a good idea to leave them with Luffy... they're gone."

The other two males look sheepishly at the ground, their cheeks slightly tinted pink. She smiles at them and shakes her head, "That's quite alright. I'll be fine, I'm just glad that my neighbors are at least good people."

"I wouldn't say that so soon," Ace laughs, putting his hand on his stomach to emphasize he found himself funny. "But that's okay, we're trusting that you're a good person. I'm glad you feel the same."

She nods, that's true. She didn't really think about what it would be like for them, to come over to a strangers apartment in hopes that they don't murder them. But then again, they have more of a chance of harming her. She literally has nothing on her except for what the facility gave her and what she had when she was taken away.

"So, what's the story about this place?" she places her arms around her body and takes a deep breath. "Like what exactly... oh I don't know what I'm saying anymore."

"Well, this place is usually the place they stick the new people to this town. Our landlord is really lenient when it comes to paying on time and especially since he knows that you're struggling getting accustomed to this town," Sabo gives her a big smile in order to help her feel better. "Everyone here besides Luffy, Ace and I are here because of the same reason you are. They've all lost their soulmates."

She furrows her brow, that's the second time she's heard them mention that. Isn't the only way for people to get to this place is for them to lose their soulmate?

"I bet you're hungry! And I doubt that your ex-soulmate will give you food, so come over to my house later, 'kay?" Luffy smiles are her. "We're gonna have a welcoming party for you!"

"Sure," she takes a deep breath, she can't help but smile when she sees him give her one. "I'd love to. Thank you."
