Plan
Angelina walked quickly into the dark halls, but her nausea was getting the best of her. She burped and coughed, feeling the need to vomit. She put her hands over her stomach and still tried to grasp the fact that she was pregnant. Angelina didn't have the urgency or desire to be a mother during her era. Angelina wasn't interested in being a parent, especially since her parents abandoned her.
Her perceptions changed.
She met and got to know Vlad, and although he was still cruel, as history mentioned, he was made that way due to his environment and trauma. Vlad couldn't entirely be blamed for who he was and what he became. He still had his humanity, but it was only temporary since Vlad was willing to sacrifice it and himself to fight for Wallachia and the future. Angelina believed that Vlad wanted their child; he was willing to send her and their unborn child to the future without him.
Still, the young woman didn't want to leave Vlad. She loved him and didn't want their child to grow up without a father, as she had. That was when Angelina remembered Vlad the Monk's plan.
"What is your plan?" Angelina asked with anticipation.
Vlad the Monk stood still as he contemplated whether or not his plan should be said. However, since his brother was unwilling to make peace with Sultan Mehmed II, Vlad the Monk was willing to break his brother's trust. "Will you swear not to say anything to anyone? Not even Ioana?"
Angelina remained as serious as she could. If Vlad the Monk didn't want Ioana to know, then it was something dire. "I promise. I just want there to be peace and I don't want anything to happen to Vlad."
"From what I heard about the Sultan, he seems to be a man of clarity and will not act without reason. He is a man of logic and understanding with limitations. I plan to write a letter to the Sultan and pay off my brother's debt."
The young woman gasped. Vlad the Monk wanted to pay his brother's debts. "Y-You want to pay off his debts? Vlad will never accept that and-"
"He will not know until the Sultan accepts my conditions. If the Sultan accepts, then I will send the coins."
Angelina wrapped her arms around herself. She felt slightly relieved by the idea, but it had downsides, and she feared the repercussions. "I-I am not against the idea but the Sultan may not accept the payment if it was from you. He may want the payment from Vlad himself."
Vlad the Monk nodded as he put his hands on his back. "I thought of this too. Which is why I will write a letter as if it was from my brother himself."
"That's a huge risk that you are taking. Vlad will eventually find out the truth, and you might get..." Angelina feared that he would execute his brother if Vlad found out the truth. She didn't want that to happen."
"I understand your concern, Angelina, but fear not. My brother will not execute me. Radu and I are the only blood family he has. Vlad still cares for us brothers. He may exile me which is a risk that I am willing to take for the sake of peace."
"Still, if he finds out, I am afraid that Vlad will still go to war and will do something for revenge. With that, all the money you have spent would have been for nothing.'"
Vlad the Monk nodded as he considered the many possibilities, but he refused to have his brother ruin any plan. "I will only have the letter sent by one of my men, and once I receive the Sultan's answer, I will then send word throughout Wallachia about the supposed peace. My brother will feel pressured to keep up with the lie, and if he breaks it, then he will be at fault for breaking the peace."
More relief sat in; Angelina was impressed by Vlad the Monk's plan and considered the many possibilities. There were still many risks, but they had no options to convince Vlad to make peace. Many people, and even Vlad, would die. However, there was the possibility that history could change, altering her era. Angelina was willing to take the risk. "Okay, so is there something you would like me to do?"
"Just be by his side and try to contain him. Do not get yourself too involved with my plan; you have your son to be concerned about."
Angelina put a hand over her womb. "Son? It could also be a girl."
Vlad the Monk gently smiled. "I have a feeling that you will birth a son; sons being born in our family is very common than daughters."
"Still, it doesn't matter as long as the baby is born healthy."
The memory came and went, and Angelina knew that Vlad the Monk didn't want her to get too involved. She promised not to do so, but if something went wrong, Angelina wasn't afraid to make her last desperate attempt for peace.
