Future

Angelina cried and screamed as she rode away from the camp and deeper into the forest. Parts of the forest looked vaguely familiar, and from what she could process, she was getting closer to the Hoia-Baicu Forest. "VLAD! RADU! IOANA! SORINA! EVERYONE!" She cried as her emotions overwhelmed her. Memories of everything she experienced raced through her mind, making her dizzy. The horse's movements worsened, and Angelina felt everything around her was going in circles. Her heart was racing with panic as everything slowly began to blur. Her body and eyes were twitching as her memories and environment made her brain and body spin so much that she lost her grip on her horse, causing her to fall to the ground with her backpack.

From what little Angelina could see, the horse kept running off. Before fainting, Angelina whispered, "Vlad..."

Everything went dark, and Angelina felt as though she was floating in mid-air, feeling peaceful, which was a strange sensation. Although her eyes were closed, Angelina could make out a light that was warming her. Suddenly, she felt someone gently touch her face.

"Angelina, awake," the voice echoed.

The voice sounded very familiar and tranquil. Angelina remembered and woke up. "VLAD!?" She sat up, and a bright light hit her. The light made her eyes feel painful, so she covered them with her hand.

"Miss! You are alright! You are okay! You're in the hospital," a man said in broken English.

"H-HUH!?"

"Calm down, first, Miss! You are in the hospital! You are safe and found!"

Angelina was silent. Slowly, she uncovered her eyes and saw a man in a nurse's uniform, which looked different from what she was used to. The room featured numerous television screens and button controls, giving it a futuristic appearance. "Wh-Where am I?"

"I will inform the doctor, and the detectives will speak with you. They will answer your questions." The nurse walked out of the room. Angelina kept looking around and slowly got off the bed, but felt no strength in her legs. Punching and forcing her legs and feet to move, she finally felt some sensation. Angelina eventually got out of bed but fell in the process. However, she gathered her strength to stand and slowly walked to a window, where she saw the outside. It looked like the city of Târgoviște, but with more modern, advanced, and taller buildings, alongside some of its old structures. "I'm back? No...this can't be...," speaking in a faint whisper.

A knock echoed, making the young woman flinch and turn. The door opened, and a doctor and two detectives entered. "Good afternoon, Miss. Angelina. I am Doctor Narcis, and these are Detective Petar and Constantin. We are happy that you are finally awake." Seeing Angelina's confused and cautious state, the three men decided to keep their distance, not to frighten her. "I am certain you have many questions and we would be happy to answer them, but you may need to sit."

Angelina slowly walked back to bed while maintaining her distance. The men were silent as they prepared for her questions. "What happened to me?"

"You were found in the Hoia-Baicu Forest a month ago. You-"

"A month? Are you saying I was unconcious for a month?"

Detective Petar stepped in. "Yes, one of the park rangers found you. You were in terrible condition and we thought you would be in a long-term coma, but luckily you were able to wake. However, what I am about to say next, may be shocking. The thing is, you disappeared twenty-eight years ago."

The young woman's eyes widened, not wanting to believe what she was being told. "Wh-What? Twenty-eight years? I-I-"

"You were part of a tour group that went to the Hoia-Baicu Forest but you separated from the group and went to the restricted section of the forest. There was a month search but you were never found; it was as if you disappeared from the ends of the earth."

"What year is it?"

"Year 2050. Although you must also know that you are now a worldwide sensation since you have been missing for twenty-eight years and have been found. What is astonishing is that you still look your age and were wearing clothing from the fifteenth century," said Detective Constantin.

Angelina looked up. If she still wore clothes from Vlad's time, it meant she had truly time-traveled, and everything that had happened was real. "I-I really did time travel..."

The men looked at one another and then at her. "The Hoia-Baicu Forest has many legends, including one about possible time travel. The fact that you have been missing for so long and still look your age with clothing from the fifteenth century shows that perhaps you are speaking the truth. However, we have sent many of our agents to go to the forest alone, but nothing has happened to them. It would seem only certain people go," stated Detective Petar.

Angelina was breathing heavily. "I have to go back. I need to go back! Please take me back to the forest! I need to go to Vlad!"

The trio raised their eyebrows. "Vlad? We cannot let you go back. No one else is allowed to go the Forest. It is tightly controlled by the government ever since your disappearance. No matter how hard you try and beg, you will not return."

"Why!? I need and want to go back and I-!"

"Detectives, she needs rest. I believe you can question her more afterward." The doctor left the room, and the detectives followed suit, but Angelina called out to them. "May I have a laptop to see the news and research. If I am a worldwide spectacle, I will face a lot of attention, and I need to prepare myself for the worst. Please."

The Detectives looked at one another, and one gave her their tablet. "You can use it for an hour, and I will have it back. Whatever you put will be in the history and will not be removed without my permission. Are we clear?"

"Yes, thank you." The Detective unlocked his tablet and motioned for Angelina. Once she was left alone, she began to research herself. Angelina was all over the news about how she was found in the Hoia-Baicu Forest. She then researched Vlad and whether anything had changed since she was with him, and also to learn about the fate of their son.

The Wikipedia pages and others stated that Mihnea was his son, but no sign of their son, Radu. Tears formed in her eyes as history made its mark; Vlad was betrayed and killed. Radu became Voivode but didn't last for long. She then researched Vlad the Monk and learned that he became Voivode, during whose reign the country experienced peace. However, something caught her interest. The one who succeeded him was his son, Radu IV the Great. "Could it be...?" There wasn't much information available about Radu IV the Great, but he was known for inventing the printing press in Wallachia. Since their bodies weren't found, they have escaped. Vlad the Monk made everyone believe that Radu was his son and raised him as his own.

She learned that Mihnea, Alexandrei, and Minah's son, became Voivode by force after her son. Their descendants ruled for many years until their male lineage became extinct. They had female descendants, but history didn't pay much attention to them.

Still, Angelina realized that she had many grandchildren and other descendants. She had to know more, and while researching, she came across a link that caught her interest: King Charles III is a real-life Descendant of Dracula. "What the...?"

The young woman continued to research it, and there were many accounts that he and the British Royal family were related to Vlad. Then she found a YouTube video stating that the British descended from Radu IV the Great, Vlad the Monk's son. People and history didn't know that Radu IV was their son. Realization set in: The British Royal Family were their descendants. She then researched the British Royal Family and read that King William had just died at the age of sixty-eight, and that Prince George would soon become King, having to deal with the country's financial and climate change disasters.

The tablet was turned off.

Angelina wept.
