Aria was simply cracking her neck and rolling her shoulders to prepare herself for the match, all the cheers outside the tent were tuned out. There was only herself and one other Ravenclaw witch in the gals locker room, making it a peaceful environment.
Either had their own way to get ready for the game.
"Oh come on Ari! You sent me specs of you playing on the American team, you were flawless at practice!"
"Yeah, but usually Lestrange likes to make me look like a fool." She grumbled, strapping and re-strapping her wrist guards and huffed.
"Then stay by me and help me defend, and when the lads get tired then you can fly like the wind. Come on, I think I hear them." Aria rose from the bench and grabbed her broom that was leaning beside her. She told herself that she'd purchase a new one next year with money she's made in the combined two years, it would be a treat for herself if anything.
Aidan threatened to buy her a new one but she shut that down immediately. She couldn't possibly be given something like that as a gift.
Not when she couldn't get him something that expensive in return, but that came with the territory of 'being with someone' that steamed from the Salem witch trials.
They were the royalty that Aria had been wary of here.
She ignored her captains retellings of the practices that they had, if she listened to it her prayer would've been interrupted and she couldn't afford to worry.
Instead she mounted her broom and kicked off into the air, already receiving the sickening smirk of the Rabastan Lestrange. So she ripped into her jersey for a moment and retrieved the necklace Aidan had given her, bringing her lips to it gently before shoving it back down and nodding forward to challenge the bloke.
"Ari, are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"But you just said I was brilliant this summer, if I play it smart he won't even get the chance." Rabastan had been glaring at Aria from across the field, he already lived through the comments of his mates thinking that she's fit.
But was she really?
This was the tutor that earned them a detention for a harmless purchase of another student doing their assignment. It wouldn't stop them from doing it again, instead it would make them be more careful.
As they should've been in the beginning.
The start of whistle sanctioned any all thoughts of school work to null while hatred was amplified. This was only time Aria pushed all morals to play, something she's been active in since her second year.
She flew forward and punched the quaffle towards her teammate and they were already off to obtain the interception and gain the advancement to the Slytherin's goal.
From rumors, it was a new Keeper for the season as the previous one graduated. And they were barely up to pare as Aria had watched her teammates place themselves which allowed her to raise on her broom slightly wobbly before going forward to run forward and jumping on the backs of her two chasers and faking a throw to the lower goal before twisting herself and going for the opposite goal.
"AND ROSWELL TAKES THE FIRST SCORE, TEN POINTS FOR RAVENCLAW!" The announcer cheered, and having jumped without her broom caused her two chasers to grab her while she summoned her broom and returned to the center and hurry along to stop the opposing team from scoring on their own keeper.
However the beaters have been brutally whacking it back and forth beside themselves, and Aira had to swirl herself having just barely missed Lestrange's brutal swing that managed to curve in her direction.
"Lost your edge mate." She teased, gliding by before retrieving said quaffle once again. Causing Rabastan to curse under his breath at the second goal the chit made.
"Looks like Roswell practiced this summer, damn bloody—"
"Shut your trap!" Lestrange halted any and all further the comments. He was seeing red and he wanted blood.
Sirius and James, on the other hand, had turned into her biggest fans, which turned into both Remus and Lily getting a kick at their cheering.
"Ar-i-a! Ar-i-a" And the Gryffindor team had suddenly sparked the annoying chant that the Hufflepuffs had caught onto as well. Nobody was more annoyed than Aria herself, but right alongside her was Lestrange.
Who was close to seething.
"You must think you're so bloody special..." He taunted, and she smirked with a tilt of her shoulder.
"Oh I believe I do think I'm special, because I'm that self-center! I do enjoy being the center of everyone's attention! Please...I'm waiting for Reg to catch the snitch." This surprised him, and he took a count of his teammates to see that Reg was in a position much like himself and Roswell.
But before long her break to run the clock and get the Slytherin chasers tired worked flawlessly, as Aria didn't have to show off to get her throw passed the keeper.
Rabastan twirled his bat in his hand and squeezed, Roswell did bring a fire to the field that was commendable. But she was far too much of a bitch for him to truly say that out loud, so instead he rejoined the came and shouted for Regulus to get the damn snitch.
In a fit of rage he smacked the bludger and had Aria not heard the crack of the bat, she wouldn't have turned her head in that direction—Causing her to swiftly hit the bludger with the quaffle in her hand.
"Watch it Lestrange!" She cursed, before continuing off to toss the quaffle off towards her teammates as she checked to see if she could pop her wrist back into place.
"You alright?" Regulus questioned, and she sighed at the idea of being caught tending to an injury.
"Fine, just bonked it is all. Spot the snitch yet?" He shook his head and sat further on his broom.
"It's always easier in practice."
"Yes, so imagine that they're cheering your name at the top of your lungs...I'm surprised I'm not deaf yet." He caught that she flinched when tugging at her wrist brace, but she still managed to smile and nick her head.
"Go end the game Black." She ordered, and she rightly hadn't rejoined all that long as she threw the with her non-dominate hand and luckily made it in as their keeper was just exhausted chasing it back and forth.
"THAT'S ANOTHER TEN POINTS BY ROSWELL!" It had barely passed her conscious of what had happened, it was awfully fast that the bludger had snuck up on Rabastan as he had been watching her make the throw. Almost ready to torment her that he hurt her during his last hit.
But karma struck when she decided it was time to serve.
Perhaps it was foolish, perhaps she should've just let him fall. But her heart leaped in seeing Lestrange fall from the broom like he had, and she knew that Britain's teams never really taught their players what to do in the off chance they fall and cannot summon their broom.
What she had done at the beginning of the game took practice and a dozen failed attempts, and a few healed twisted ankles and damaged knees, before she managed to properly master said technique.
Though that is what came with being a Chaser, she needed to be creative and affirmative on the field.
Having switched back to her dominate hand she reached out for him—And Rabastan was desperate for anything to stop his impact from the ground, so when his eyes locked onto a determined Aria's, he was a touch surprised to see that she was the one to come save him from the fall.
The only issue was that she had been so concerned with trying to help that she started to lean forward in an attempt to cease his momentum.
Both she and Rabastan hadn't fallen as gracefully as she planned, nor had she stuck to the landing as she tumbled a rough rolled and landed onto her already damaged wrist.
Letting out a string of curses did unwrap her padded brace to the bruising already taking it's form, and from Lestrange's point of view it looked broken.
"Roswell—"
"Fucking watch your surrounding Lestrange." She cursed, summoning her broom with her spar hand as he watched her return to the sky.
His broom hadn't been that far away from their crash sight, but he didn't have the ability to summon it as she does. So he walked on off towards it, realizing that nobody on his team rightly made the effort to catch him—nor would they have cared if he hurt himself.
So why did Roswell bother?
He could see as he slowly built his way back up to the same hight as the rest that she was only tossing it back and forth, more or less the chasers and beaters running the limitless clock until Regulus or Ravenclaw's seekers caught the damn—
"SLYTHERIN HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH! THAT'S A HUNDRED AND FIFTY POINTS!" And even though he had caught it, it was still not enough to beat the built-up of points that Roswell and her teammates had managed to secure over the past two hours.
Instead he descended just as quickly as he rose, slapping a hand to Regulus' back in managing to catch the damn thing. "Should've waited a few minutes?"
"Nah, not with Roswell and those two lads—Think we have a good year with the birds." Their team captain hadn't been all that mad, granted if it were Gryffindor then this would've been an entirely different story.
However Rabastan had turned back to see the Ravenclaw team enjoying their win, his savior being boosted up by the two Prewett lads from Gryffindor.
"Should give her a smooch Bas, say thank you the proper way." Avery had been prepared to get whacked, but it earned him a smirk as his heart was suddenly skipped a beat at the idea.
Either of his mates looked to one another before following after him. Had he hit his head on the landing?
It had been the first win of the Ravenclaw season, and so a party sparked last minute. And so Rabastan found himself following the group of Slytherin that were still slightly bitter about the defeat, but still were proud enough to accept the invitation to the Ravenclaw common room's party.
There wasn't as much of a resentment that the Gryffindors and them would have, and Regulus was trudging along as he rightly felt guilty in being the reason that they lost.
They were fifty points behind, it wasn't going to be much of a difference, but it was better than being two-hundred points behind.
The Ravenclaw common room was opened just a tad for guests to come in, and upon entry had they been welcomed with a blasted of loud music.
"Maybe the birds do know how to throw a party." Rabastan heard one of his teammates say, and he had to agree. They managed to cover the likes of the endlessly tall bookcases by hanging banners with beautiful lights that flickered back and forth, and better yet—The Ravenclaws had a bar.
"Firewhiskey or butter beer?" Rabastan rose a brow to Avery, and the mate just shrugged it off as a joke as the two went towards the bar.
"Hangover tonics are here too lads!" It had been a shock as the Ravenclaw provided, and the bartender for the night threw his hands up. "Not my idea, ask our star player." Rabastan had choked on his first sip as he hadn't been prepared for that sort of response.
Nor was he ready to see what the witch was wearing.
"I do believe our mate is drooling." McNair teased, and Avery snickered while Regulus gawked.
"Oi, you were calling her a whinny chit just before the game."
"And I'm willing to put that besides myself to thank her." The young Black heir did not trust that what so ever, and before he could warn his mate, Rabastan was off to gain a conversation to Aria Roswell.
Aria.
He didn't think he ever said her name before, but it did fit her rather well. She was just sitting on the edge of an armchair talking to those around her with a bright smile, but then he remembered kindly to the sarcastic comment she made about being the center of attention.
Which was why she was off and away from the makeshift dance floor, but he still noted the drink in her hand. Butterbeer of course.
Her hair had a controllable wave, significantly different from her straightened or braided design—Why he was making note of all this, he didn't know.
Well he did, it was because he was trying to ignore the way she looked in the dress. And she flexed her foot forwards to reveal the beautiful black stockings that showcased her long legs.
Aria had bought this dress in America and hadn't thought that there would be a party already, but it was better than whatever her roommates were pushing her to wear from their own closet. Yet when they saw this they didn't question it.
The Ravenclaw blue made her porcelain skin look flawless, and she never wore dainty jewelry or over accessorised.
And Rabastan huffed when he saw who had intercepted him—One of the Prewett twins. If he had to take a guess, it was Fabian. They were usually the ones together.
He was the one to sit in the chair that Aria sat on the armchair, but she was suddenly picked up and placed onto the wizard's lap.
"Fabe! Stop it!" She giggled in reply, Rabastan wasn't surprised she was drunk. But he hadn't seen her so casually in such an environment, and instead of trying to return to her spot, she made herself comfortable in his lap and continued the conversation with her friends and his—Leaving Rabastan without the ability to say thank you.
And perhaps flirt a little bit on the push of the fire whiskey. Instead he remained constantly aware of the little bird flirting away with that damn Gryffindor.
"You stare any longer she'll get the wrong idea." McNair chimed in, and Rabastan took a long sip of his fire whiskey before huffing and laughing.
"I think, gents, our Bas has a lil fancy to that bird...And she's a taken bird." Avery motioned, and McNair shook his head. "Nah, they're just best mates...But she does have a lad in America."
"And where did you get this from?" McNair just rose a knowing brow, he had flirted with the idea of getting close with the Ravenclaw.
"I've been telling you she's fit this entire year!" Regulus had still felt disgusted in hearing this conversation, granted any third year weren't thinking about anything in the realm of gals just yet.
But he liked Aria, she was what he considered a friend more than just a tutor.
Rabastan had enough of the sexual tension that her damn dress was causing him, so he searched the room for his usual hookup—Victoria Barns.
The two have been shagging left and right, and she was just waiting to get the moment in when he would swoop her away to be bedded.
Avery and McNair continued to share a laugh at how screwed their mate was, especially when Aria had been led to the dance floor.
"But Fabe, my arm is..."
"Relax love, I'll lead." The wrapping and bindings had finally been recognized, and either Slytherin had felt readily guilty in not pushing Rabastan to say thank you before leaving.
But he would have enough time in the coming days as well so it wasn't the end of the world.
"Oi, McNair? Where's you get that she ain't dating the bloke?" The question had rung in the Beater's mind as he started to form a sentence before turning.
"From her roommates, she's—" The couple looked rather cozy, and Fabian had been very gentle when It came to her injured wrist as it simply hugged his waist to not strain it further.
He dipped her, and smirked with laughter that she conformed into such a dancer's position with her leg arched up with his that it turned promiscuous rather quickly.
Aria's blush rose as she hid in his chest and blamed the butterbeer. But either Slytherin were taking notes, perhaps there was more to this Ravenclaw girl who wore oversized glasses all semester long with her nose in the books.
