Janelle's POV

"Mommy! Wake up it's 11:30" Troy shakes me "What do you want?" I mumble stretching.

"Nothing, I just wanted to tell you that Maya's mom is downstairs" Troy says, as I sat up rubbing my eyes.

"How'd you get in Troy?"

"Uncle Craig told me that there's a spare key under the welcome mat" I nod "What is Sel- Maya's mom doing here"

"Cooking breakfast" he smiles, I get up and walk downstairs.

"Finally, morning sleepy head"

"Morning" I yawn, she give me a stank look "Have you brushed?"

"My breath does not stink!"

"Every bodies breath stinks in the morning" I roll my eyes

"What are you doing here anyways?"

"You said you wanted to go shopping, so here I am-" I give her a confused look "-you can't go shopping without a shopping buddy, now can you?"

"Actually I-"

"I made you breakfast" she scarps the fried eggs from the pan beside the toasted English muffin with butter and roasted sausages that was on the plate with a glass of orange juice. Everything looked so good.

"Imma go brush my teeth" I hurry up the stairs.

When I finish I go downstairs and dig into the meal.

"This is really good Selena"

"I know right. Even with all these skills my ass still don't have a man" she chuckles

"You'll find your Mr. Right soon"

"Yeah, like you found yours last night"

"Girl please, that nig- I mean guy is a lost memory!...it was a one night thing"

"Mhm, that's why his number still on your arm right?"

"When I shower it will come off" As I finish eating I drop my plate in the sink and go shower.

As I finish I put myself in shorts, a shoulder off cropped top and sandals with my hair in a bun.

"Aight let's go!" I jog down the stairs

"I see you still got that number" Selena says as I reach the bottom "It wouldn't wash off" I protest

"Right-" she says sarcastically "-Or you chose not wash it off" she raises a brow

"Please hush" I fake a grin, she rolls her eye and leads the way out the house.

We all got in her Mercedes Benz and head off.

"Oh I almost forgot, thanks for getting Troy dressed up this morning"

"Girl it's nothing he's like my son"  We get out and walk into the mall. It is extremely crowded today, probably cause it's Saturday. As we all try to squeeze out way into a store I bump into someone causing her to drop her wallet that she was holding in her hand.

"I'm sorry" I try to pick it up but she bets me to it.

"Watch where the fuck you going bitch" she stands up and it was no other than Chrissan.

"Clearly the mall is crowded, it was an accident." I reply in a 'duh' tone

"I didn't ask for your stupid explanation, I mean how clumsy of a hoe are you? Yes the mall is crowded but everyone else seem to know how to keep their bodies to themselves...oh that's right, you don't know how to keep ya body to yourself, always trying to touch up on one man or another" I look at her lost of words. I'm the queen of smart remarks but I dunno.

"Look here bitch, I don't who you are or what you think you are but imma need you to chill. I mean she said she was sorry...no?" Selena jumps in with a full burst of attitude

"Mind your business you slut!" Selena gives her a stank look "I know you did not just-"

"Let's go Selena, forget her" I pull Selena while she's struggling from my grip "Think about Maya you think she wanna see her momma fighting in public?" I try to calm her

"I don't give a-" I cover her mouth and push her into the Nike Factory.

"Yo who is that ho-" She says walking back and forth punching her hand.

"Selena calm down! We in public" she sighs frustrated.

"Whatever" she says angrily walking over checking our the new arrivals of the Nike track suits. I take Troy and Maya and we go check out some shoes.

Selena soon approaches us.

"Yo aren't these cute? she shows me the newest Nike air max in all white "They aight" I shrug

"They Aight? Are you blind?"

"Hey you can get them if you want, I  ain't gonn-"

"Hey" a male voice calls from behide me, I turn around to be face to face with the guy that we saw in the mall yesterday. I smile as I look into his hazel eyes almost getting lost.

"H-h-hi!" I reply shyly

"I've been expecting your call" I furrow my eyebrows at him "Excuse me?"

"My number...it's on your arm" he points to my arm

"T-that was y-you?" He smiles, why am I getting so nervous?

"C'mon kids let's go" Selena says taking Maya and Troy's hand leaving. I turn my head and staring at her, my eye growing wide. She smiles and pulls from Maya's hand for a brief second to give me the thumbs up.

This bitch.

Darren chuckles lightly "So how bout that lunch date you owe me?" I raise my eyebrow "C'mon ma" he tries to persuade me.

"I don't even know-"

"That's the point of this lunch"

"I dunno, my son is here and-"

"Great! you have a son, now I know one thing about you. How bout let me know more about you by taking you to lunch"

"I gotta ask my friend" I walk away in search of Selena as he trails behide me. I just hope she says she can't coup with the both of them. I spot her at the clothing section and I walk up go her.

"Selena, um he wants to take me for lunch. Is that okay?" I give her a look that says 'say no' she looks at him then at me and smirks "That's fine Janelle" I stare at her.

"So it's settled" says Darren

"W-what about the k-kids? S-she can't handle the kids on her own now can she?"

"Oh I'll be fine darling, don't worry about me...That's Janelle for you always caring about people before herself" she smiles at Darren, he smiles back.

"Thank you Selena" I say through my teeth and fake a grin as Darren and I begin to walk away. She nods smirking "No problem, have fun!...oh and call me when you're done...actually don't. Darren drop her off will ya?" I snap my head her way as she continues to smile.

"That's fine" he responds

We walk into Subway and grabbed something to eat and took a seat

"So?" He began

"You brought me here, and you didn't have anything planned?" He gives a nervous chuckle

"So what's your name?" I furrow my eyebrows, didn't he hear the numerous times Selena called me.

"Janelle"

"Oh I'm Darren"

"I know"

"Right. Um-"

"Why are you so nervous?"

"I dunno, it's been a while since I came in contact with someone"

"Same"

"Huh? I thought you said you have a son, where's his father?"

"He lives in Philly, we cool though but he has a girlfriend so you know" I take a bite from my sub

"Oh...so tell me what are your goals in life? What do you want to achieve?"

"I wanna be a social worker, but you know it's hard to be schooling when your all on your own with a son"

"Wait, his father doesn't pay child support?" I chuckle

"Nah, we recently just made up"

"Oh, I'm sorry for bringing it up"

"It's fine"

"I don't even understand how he could've even left you...I mean you're so sweet" I blush

"Thanks"

He could actually be a real catch. I mean he's cute, easy on the eyes, generous, and smart. I like it.

It was now 2:45pm and he's now taking me home.

"This is where you live?" He asks in shock "Yeah, what's the problem?"

"Nothing, it's a nice area"

"I had fun...Darren" I smile

"Good I'm happy you did" he smiles back

"Bye" I open the car door about to get out.

"Wait, um.." he scratches the back of his neck "Darren stop being so nervous "

"OK, I was wondering if you would like to go on a actual date with me" I try to hide the smile that was about to appear on my face.

"When?"

"Tomorrow night"

"Sure"

"Great I'll pick you up at 8pm" I smile and hop out his car.

My first date in how many years..This is gonna be great, it has to be.
