One - Will Someone Please Tell Him He's Gay?

Ah, yes. The story of Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester. It's one I am very familiar with, seeing as I played a key role in it. Oh, me? Hi, hello, I'm Charlie Bradbury, high school student, Lover of video games, and HELLA gay. I'll be your narrator this evening, so buckle up. It's going to be quite the ride.

I guess it all started when Cas and I were hanging out at my house one afternoon just before school started, as we happened to do a lot, and I was trying, as I did once every year, to help Cas become a master of video games.

"But after that I can go fight the dragon, right?" he asked me as I sat in a chair behind him, watching the computer screen over his shoulder. I sighed.

"You are so hopeless. Yes, you could technically fight the dragon, but in no universe would you want to yet. You would get totally pummeled," I told him. Cas slumped back in his chair, letting go of the mouse.

"Face it, Charlie. Video games still aren't for me," he said. I considered arguing, but decided against it. The poor boy had had enough. I stood up and so did he, looking eager to be done.

"Fine," I said. "What do you want to do instead?" Cas sat down on my bed.

"Can we just talk? Surely you have some sort of news, you always seem to know everything," he said. I sat down next to him.

"Well, I've heard there's a new guy coming to school this year," I said. "I haven't heard that much about him, but he's supposedly very hot." Cas let out a small laugh.

"Why would either of us care about that? You're so gay John Barrowman is jealous," he said. I raised my eyebrows.

"You speak blasphemy! I could never surpass the beautiful gay god that is John Barrowman," I exclaimed. Cas chuckled and leaned back on the bed.

"Okay, fine. But seriously, I don't know why you would bring that up when neither of us have reason to care," he said. I swung my legs onto the bed and watched Cas as he stared at the ceiling, his hands laced together on his stomach. He said he had no reason to care if the new guy was hot, but I was less sure. I mean, there was this kid named Danny Hellman back in sixth grade, Cas would kill me if I told anyone the details, but suffice it to say, it was really gay. Cas denied it, but I'd had a suspicion for years now that if Cas found the right guy, he'd be raising that rainbow flag before you could say butt sex. But maybe it was just the pining of a sad and lonely little gay girl who wants to share her rainbows with her best friend.

"...anything else?" I looked up sharply, shaking my head slightly as I emerged from my thoughts.

  "Sorry?"

"Did you hear anything else? About the guy that's coming to school this year," Cas asked, propping himself up on his elbow. I crossed my legs and leaned on my knees towards him.

"Not that much else. No one really seems to know that much," I told him. "I guess we'll just have to find out for ourselves." Cas nodded.

"I guess it's something to look forward to," he said. I let out a laugh, laying over on my side and looking at him.

"Oh please, you're looking forward to school and we both know it," I said. The boy was a genius; I don't think he had ever failed a class.

"Charlie, for the last time, being smart and liking school are not the same thing," Cas said with the tired air of someone who was done with having the same argument over and over. What can I say, I wasn't convinced.

"Fine. Deny it. But I know that some part of you enjoys it, whatever you say. Remember that science project last year? You were so into that thing," I reminded him.

"Okay science is different, If you don't like science you're just weird," Cas said, sitting up. I rolled my eyes.

  "Whatever you say, you nerd."

***

We never saw Dean until school started. We were sitting in History the first morning of school, Cas watching the teacher with rapt attention and me trying not to lose brain cells – ironic at a school – when in walked a six foot two, green eyed guy that it didn't take a straight girl's eyes to see was fine. He introduced himself as Dean, and as he did so, I saw that the look on Cas' face was one of confused fascination. Straight my ass. I leaned forward slightly, looking to see if the seat on the other side of Cas was empty. It was, praise the lord, and Dean sat in it.

I couldn't really hear what was being said between them as the teacher started talking again, just a few words on Cas' side, but they introduced themselves and didn't seem to hate each other on sight. Cas even laughed a little at one point. That part only made me a little bit jealous; I was usually the only one who could make him laugh.

At one point, not too long after they had stopped talking, Cas glanced over at me, smiling, and I gave him a quick grin and a thumbs-up. He shook his head a little bit in amusement and turned back towards the front. I was glad Cas seemed to be making friends with Dean. I couldn't help but remember the little kid who needed my help to even talk to adults. I felt like his mother, which was a new feeling, as he was definitely the mom friend in this relationship, but I was proud of him. That was the first moment where I thought Cas might just be okay when he went off to college without me, and the feeling only got stronger as the months went on.

So here we go. Take two. Hope you guys enjoy!
