August 1971

It was finally the end of the summer heat and Violet was now back in school, while Jane and Pepper still helped Jude and Vivien at the bookstore.

Jude was sitting on the couch; reading a book as she heard Kit's car pull into the driveway as the car door shut and she heard footsteps as he opened the door.

"Hey babe, I'm home." Kit said as he took off his coat and Jude smiled as she got up and went over to him.

"Hmm... I know." Jude said as he kissed her as she smelled the stench of gasoline on him as it made her a little nauseous.

"I'm glad to be home. Today, I seen Roy and Jane making out by the ice cream freezer." Kit said as Jude laughed as she walked in the kitchen to check on dinner.

"Says the one who wanted to have sex with his fiancee beside an air unit." Jude said as Kit smiled.

"Well, it was lovely, until the cold air blew up my ass." Kit said as Jude laughed as he entered the kitchen to see what she was cooking.

"What are we having tonight?" Kit asked her.

"Well, I was going to cook chicken, but I want you to have something that did not remind you of work." Jude said as Kit started kissing her neck.

"Hmm... Chicken would be fine, but the food is not what I'm hungry for." Kit whispered in her ear as her heart started fluttering.

"Honey, I've got a nice little evening planned for us. Let's just enjoy it." Jude said as Kit kissed her.

"Alright." Kit said as he waited till the meatloaf was in the oven before he started sucking on her ear.

"As tempting as you are right now darling, I just don't want to be intimate right now." Jude said as Kit looked at her.

"Are you sick?" Kit asked her.

"Sort of." Jude said

"Wait, that explains the sickness this morning." Kit said

"Do you think that we could be..." Jude was left speechless as she felt excited and scared at the same time.

"Maybe and if we are, then I will be here every step of the way, I promise. I'm not going anywhere, well maybe in the middle of the night when you have a craving for mint chocolate chip." Kit said as Jude smiled and hugged him.

"I know that we said we were going to wait, but honestly, I'm ready and have been for a long time." Jude said as she started crying as Kit held her as he ran one hand through her golden tresses and the other one laid on her stomach.

"Hey! Shh... Now, don't cry baby." Kit said trying to comfort her the best way he knew how to.

"Kit?" Jude questioned

"Yes baby?" Kit answered as she felt her world coming together again.

"I hate mint chocolate chip. It tastes like dish soap." Jude said as they laughed.

"I know, but the sugar makes it tastes better." Kit said as she looked at him as he wiped her tears.

"I made an appointment for tomorrow and I had to tell him all of my symptoms and he thinks that I might be pregnant." Jude said as Kit massaged her feet and legs.

"What time is your appointment?" Kit asked her.

"Ten thirty." Jude said as she felt her body relax.

"And if we are pregnant, then you will be the best mama in the world. I have seen you hold the little ones at the library and your face comes to show this radiance and I just fall in love with you over and over again." Kit said as she kissed him.

"What do you say we have an appetizer before the main course?" Jude asked him as he picked her up and carried her to the couch.

Twenty minutes later, they laid beneath their quilt as Jude had her head laid on his chest as she felt Kit's hand rub her stomach.

"If we do have a baby now, do you want a boy or a girl?" Jude asked him.

"Apart of me wants a boy to throw a football with or play baseball, but then, a little girl with your facial features that wants me to play tea party with her or dance with her just like we do on occasion. I don't mind whether we have a little boy or a little girl, because they would be ours." Kit said as Jude smiled.

"I feel they same way about it. I will either have a little football or baseball player or a dancer and maybe a little chef like me." Jude said

"Do you still like the names we picked out?" Kit asked her.

"Josiah is still the same, but I was lying in bed the other night and a different name for our daughter popped in my head." Jude said as Kit felt the goosebumps on Jude's arm.

"I was thinking about Kennedy for our daughter's name." Kit said as Jude leaned up to stare at him.

"That was the same name I was thinking of." Jude said as they kissed.

"Wow! Great minds think alike." Kit said as Jude got up and put her clothes back on.

"Now, let's eat." Jude said as she was happy and better than she was before.

"It looks wonderful sweetheart." Kit said as Jude kissed him.

"Thank you darling." Jude said.

They got through dinner and Kit washed the dishes while Jude relaxed in a warm bath as her back started hurting through dessert.

Kit finished the dishes as he walked upstairs to see Jude relaxing with a book in her hands.

"I never knew you wore reading glasses." Kit said as Jude looked up.

"Yeah, I just take them off every time you see me at work, so that way I won't get consumed by work instead of spending time with you." Jude said as Kit stripped out of his clothes and got in.

"Well, you look great baby. Absolutely breath taking." Kit said as Jude crawled up in his lap and started kissing him.

"You know I read something yesterday at work." Jude said as Kit easily worked his fingers into her womanhood as Jude moaned at the thrill of his slow motions.

"What did you read at work?" Kit asked her.

"That sex was great in a woman's pregnancy and that men usually gain weight during it." Jude said as Kit felt her walls around his fingers contract.

"Well, I'm surprised I haven't gained a ton of weight already." Kit said as Jude kissed his neck.

"Well, if I were pregnant, then we will have to cut back on a lot of things." Jude said

"Sex isn't one of them, is it?" Kit asked her.

"No, but caffeine is. I can have a small amount, but no drinking alcohol (meaning wine), smoking or any kind of big, general, physical activity." Jude said

"Sex is physical though." Kit said

"Not when I'm on my back for the first or second trimester." Jude said as she started kissing his neck as he felt her tongue lick water droplets off him.

"What about your third trimester?" Kit asked her.

"I will have to bring the book home tomorrow from work. After my doctor's appointment, then we will start reading after we get home." Jude said

"We just have to find out first if I am pregnant and if we're not then, what the hell has been making me feel bad?" Jude questioned herself.

"These days baby, anything is possible." Kit said as they got out and he pulled the tub plug.

"Well, we will figure it out tomorrow darling. Let's just get some sleep and go on from there." Jude said as they got in their pajamas as they brushed their teeth and snuggled into bed together.

"Good night baby. I love you." Kit said as he kissed her lips as they turned out the lights.

"Good night and I love you too baby." Kit said as they drifted off to sleep in a peaceful slumber.

The next morning, Kit woke up to see Jude still asleep, but on her side of the bed as he carefully slipped out bed as he had an idea for her.

He went downstairs to see Roy, Jane and Pepper talking and eating as they turned to see him.

"Good morning Kit." Jane said as Kit smiled.

"Good morning lovebirds." Kit said as he poured himself a cup of coffee.

"Is Jude still asleep?" Pepper asked him.

"Yes, she wasn't feeling well last night." Kit said

"Is she alright?" Roy asked him.

"Yeah, she had small stomach bug, but that's it." Kit said

"Are you having unprotected sex?" Jane asked as Kit took another sip of his coffee.

"No, why?" Kit asked her.

"Because Jude might be pregnant." Roy said as Kit shook his head at him.

"Okay, I promised not to tell as Jude told me not to tell y'all." Kit said

"Jude's pregnant?" Jane asked

"No, maybe. She has a doctor's appointment today at ten thirty, so tell Vivien and Violet to go ahead and open up the library." Kit said as Jude came down the stairs as she yawned.

"Kit?" Jude questioned

"I'm in the kitchen honey." Kit said as she felt dizzy as she sat down.

"Honey, come here." Jude said as Kit hurried over to her side.

"Yes darling?" Kit asked her.

"I just had my first dizzy spell." Jude said as Kit was handed a cold wash rag as he applied it to her forehead.

"What time is it?" Jude asked as someone looked at the clock.

"Eight o'clock." Kit said

"We need to get ready. I have to get to work." Jude said as she easily got up with Kit's help.

They went upstairs as Jude thought a shower would help her as the water penetrated her skin as Kit laid out her clothes.

Jude finished her shower and felt much better as she dried off, brushed her teeth and hair, put her clothes on, did her hair and makeup as Kit felt bad for the way she was feeling earlier as everyone was ready for a productive day at work.

Kit dropped Jude off at work as the girls arrived at work.

It was around nine something when Jude ate something; a bagel with ham and cheese between it as she felt it coming back up as she started getting that feeling again. She took a drink of her water, but that made it worse as she darted to the bathroom and dropped to her knees in front of the toilet and emptied the contents of her breakfast into it.

"I think I'm pregnant." Jude said to herself as she went to wash her hands and leaned her head against the cool tile as her head began to hurt.

The girls were up front as Vivien had a feeling that something was wrong.

"Girls, have you seen Jude?" Vivien asked them as they were putting new check out card in the pockets of the books.

"I believe I seen her go to the bathroom." Jane said

"I'm going to go check on her." Vivien said as she went fo the bathroom door and knocked.

"Jude, are you okay?" Vivien asked her as the door opened.

"Yes darling, I'm fine. Just under the weather." Jude said as she fixed her hair and makeup.

"There's something else, I know it." Vivien said as Jude looked at her.

"Not one word to the girls yet, but I believe I'm pregnant." Jude said as Vivien smiled as she hugged Jude.

"Yay! That's great!" Vivien exclaimed as Jude started crying.

"I'm scared." Jude said as Vivien held her as she locked the door.

"Oh honey, don't be scared. Why don't the girls know yet?" Vivien asked her.

"Because, I'm going to the doctor to confirm if I am pregnant." Jude said as Vivien wiped mascara out from underneath Jude's eyes.

"Do you want me to go with you and Kit?" Vivien asked her.

"No, no darling. Someone has to be here with the girls." Jude said

"If you're pregnant, then that will be great." Vivien said

"I'm still scared Vivien. My children will know what I have done in my past one of these days and I won't be able to live with myself if they resented me for it." Jude said

"That's a long time from now honey and when you get to that point, then be completely honest with them. One thing about having babies is you have to be natural with them and be honest." Vivien said

"I can do that." Jude said as she heard someone knock on the door.

"Jude, Kit is here." Jane called through the door.

"I will be right there darling." Jude said as Jane walked away.

"It's alright honey. I will help you every step of the way when it comes to a baby." Vivien said as Jude hugged her.

"Thank you!" Jude said as she unlocked the door.

"You're welcome." Vivien said as Jude walked over beside Kit as they walked out the door to his car.

They drove to the doctor's office and signed in as they went to sit down and waited to be called back.

Jude looked around at all the pregnant women and some of the babies who seem very happy to see her.

"Judy Martin." A nurse called back as Kit and Jude got up.

"I'm nervous." Jude whispered in Kit's ear as he rubbed the small of her back.

"Hello, Ms. Martin, I'm Paige and I will be asking you some questions to begin with." Paige said as Jude felt her heart beating real fast.

"Okay." Jude said as Kit rubbed her leg.

"So Ms. Martin, you have been experiencing nausea, headaches, dizziness and fatigue, is that correct?" Paige asked her.

"Yes." Jude said as she felt tired now.

"Can you stick your arm out for me to check your blood pressure?" The nurse asked as Jude did.

The nurse took her blood pressure as Jude grew increasingly worried.

They got through all the mandatory procedures as they took a blood test as Jude hoped for the best.

They said they would expect an envelope in the mail in three to five business days as they checked it everyday to make sure it did not come soon.

Five days rolled around as Jude was coming home from the market as she walked up on her porch as she seen a yellow envelope in the pile of junk mail. She walked inside and set the groceries down, she seen Kit was not home as she waited for him to come home to her.

As she began to straighten up the house, the envelope was just lying there as she wanted to open it so she did.

Later on that night, Kit came home to smell chicken baking as he knew something was up as Jude was at the sitting at the table, feet propped up on the table, drinking a glass of red wine and smoking a cigarette.

Kit said down as Jude felt his presence as Jude hid behind her book.

"Baby?" Kit asked her as she pulled down her book.

"Turns out that my stress levels are too high. It's goddamn Briarcliff all over again. All I do is worry and stress about my past and the letter said if I wanted to have a baby... That I would have to stay completely stress free as possible." Jude said as she sat on his lap.

"Then how does it explain you having nausea?" Kit asked her.

"Stress does that to you." Jude said

"What if we went to therapy to help us get through all of this?" Kit asked her.

"No, I'm not like that and I won't go. I had a therapist once, he turned against me and threw me in that damn snake pit, locked me away and left me there to rot." Jude said Kit got up.

"Jude, I feel like we're drifting apart. I know that you may or may not have feelings for the Monsignor, but if you do, then we need a break or clearly think this over, because I don't want my heart broke again by a woman who is in love with another man." Kit said as he stood there.

"I'm not in love with him Kit, I will admit I did love him at one time, but not anymore and I love you with all my heart." Jude said as she tried to hug him, but he moved away from her and went upstairs as she sat down to cry.

She thought a drive would do her some good as she stopped at the local cafe. She walked in with her purse and coat as she sat down in a booth as a waitress asked what she would have.

"Just coffee, please?" Jude asked as she seen the Angel of Death sitting with her.

Jude talks to the Angel of Death as she felt her literal heart ache as she told her everything from the night of when Casey left her, from her fake diagnoses with syphilis (I do want her to be happy, so for the sake of the story, she will have children later on), her strong yearn for children she wanted to teach and love, to the pain she felt hitting that little girl in blue as she did not know she was still alive and thriving in her life. She told her about the fight with Kit as Shachath felt her pain through her eyes as she knew Jude loved Kit.

Jude seen headlights shine in the window as she seen Kit sitting there as she started crying.

"Jude, you still have a lot to live for. Go be with the man of your dreams and have those precious children with him that someday soon you will have." Shachath said as Jude laid some money down on the table as Jude went outside as Kit hugged her.

"I'm so sorry baby." Kit said as she hugged him back.

"No, it was my fault. Can we sit and talk?" Jude asked as they sat down on the bench.

"Of course." Kit said

"Sweetheart, I talked to someone about my past life. I'm not perfect, I used to be a drunken whore with no where to go, but I'm ready to move on with my life. The little girl I told you about long ago, she's alive and well, with a little one of her own. I want it to be just me and you with all of our loved ones. No more hurt, pain, suffrage or agony. I love you Kit Walker and I don't give a damn who knows about it." Jude said as Kit kissed her as the waitresses stared at them through the window.

"All of this sounds great and I was considering doing something else that means moving on with our lives." Kit said as he picked her up.

"What is it?" Jude asked her as he produced a house key in front her as she smiled.

"When do we move in?" Jude asked him.

"Whenever you want to baby." Kit said as it started to rain and music started playing.

(Still a fairly new song, but I love it, especially with all of what has happened to these two precious souls).

"Honestly, no matter where I went without you after I left Briarcliff, I could not get you out of my head." Kit said as Jude and him were slow dancing to the song.

"You are my perfect accident." Jude said as he held her close.

"You're my perfect accident to baby." Kit said as the rain made Jude shiver as she snuggled up in his jacket with him.

"I love my gasman." Jude said as they swayed.

"I love my librarian too." Kit said as he kissed her head.

They danced to another song as Jude loved the way Conway sang.

(Just because I love Conway and Loretta as I know Kit and Jude would too).

Kit and Jude went back home to go to bed as Jude knew moving would help them, but she didn't know if Kit was really ready to move on.

"Honey?" Kit questioned her as they were brushing their teeth.

Yes darling." Jude said

"Are you excited about moving to a new house?" Kit asked her.

"Yeah, I mean it will be different not knowing where everything is in the middle of the night or where everything goes right off hand, but I want us to be happy in everything we do." Jude said as they turned out the lights and got in bed.

"This will be great for us, I mean I just want to wake up in a house where I here you humming and not be haunted by my past. I want to wake up with you next to me and not assume your someone else I loved. I just want you." Kit said said as Jude wiped his tears away.

"And you have me right here baby, I'm not going anywhere. I just can't wait for November, I can't wait to see our wedding picture on the mantle and our children all over us. When we do have children, I can't wait to read to them, teach them things and most of all, watch you be their father." Jude said as Kit kissed her passionately.

"We can try right now?" Kit asked her.

"I have an even better idea." Jude said as she thought of something even better.

"What's your idea?" Kit asked her.

"Why don't we get pregnant on our honeymoon?" Jude asked her as she smiled.

"So, should I bring condoms?" Kit asked her.

"Only a few." Jude said as he kissed her.

"I love your idea, well all your ideas." Kit said

"Good night baby. I love you so much." Jude said as she kissed him long and passionately.

"Good night baby and I love you so much more." Kit said as Jude laid her head on his chest as she looked forward to it every day.

They drifted off to sleep as they dreamed of their perfect life together.
